If you use redtop coils from a audi r8 or audi rs3 the ignition is more reliable we did that with a turbo miata here in the netherlands and makes 230 without any issues
He was gapping with a feeler gauge the best way to check your gap. If your opening the plug gap then you would need a gapping tool. He was closing the gap in the video just tap it on a vice or something the. Check
Miatas have external ignitor, his options are endles on wasted spark, BMW or Renault sport coils are skinny but powerful, also black and afordable... No need for LS coils, that's overkill for 100hp/400ccm

Respect for the 1.6L. I have a 93 with a 1.6L. Sure the 1.8 can make more hp, but the 1.6 is less refined and more raw, in a good way. Adds to the old roaster dynamic.
I'm 6'3 , my dad once bought an early 90s Miata & I literally couldn't fit inside enough to be able to drive it. I think a 6ft person would also be very uncomfortable but maybe able to drive it. Made me wonder how many potential buyers Mazda lost because people like me couldn't drive it.

I couldn't help but notice that you were putting 5w20 in the miata, turbo Miata usually run heavier weight then the stock 10w30, most run 10w40 actually. I hope it doesn't do any damage
New viewer to the channel, and might be speaking out of my range of expertise, but is the engine built? I'm wondering if tighter bearing tolerances are the reason for the choice of a less viscous oil.
@@bakedandsteaked usually built Miata engines just use factory rod and main bearing clearances, I don't really see a reason to go tighter because we aren't trying to increase fuel efficacy by using thinner oil like new cars trying to run 0w8 or something. I have a feeling he just doesn't know or (my conspiracy theory) he puts in Pennzoil for the AD and drains it and puts in the correct oil in that he actually wants to run.
Time for a nice set of coil on plugs. I got mine here in the Netherlands from Hummelink modifications, I've had the black Toyota COPS and now the red VAG cops since they match the look better. both greatly recommended
Pennzoil has been a long time go to fav for me. Always kept my engines clean. I didn't know you were on a 2560 before or I woulda said the 388 number was reeeaaal optimistic as well. Max horsepower is usually considered to be around 350 crank and that's absolutely maxing out the turbo. New turbo should max out at more like 375 at the crank maybe a little more depending on what Precision tweaks, but will def be better for your power goals. It's definitely fast AF at nearly 300 wheel hahaha. Given the couple electrical gremlins popping up, almost wonder if just some improved power and ground wiring could help with your spark? Pure speculation though. Individual coils def makes sense. Fun vid!
272 cams, sequential spark and fueling 960cc injectiors with the ls coil kit from goflowforce will get you over 400..I did it with a 1.6 with the kraken low mount efr 6258.
Try to keep in mind the purpose of this car! It is a smooth, fun daily that you can occasionally take to the track and destroy some higher horsepower, heavier competitors. It is supposed to be light, nimble and chuckable. I would be over the moon having a car like good ol’ Molly!

This is the best video I've seen from you in a while. I pretty much stopped watching when you made that 400whp claim, because those of us in the know thought you were just posting "RUclips numbers". With how surprised and disappointed you were in the video it was pretty clear that you didn't know either, so you get a pass (even though I commented on your original video, and many others did too!). That said a 300whp miata is wicked fast, especially if you do any road racing or auto-x, you don't need any more. Personally I'm surprised you even made 295WHP on stock coils. Mine started blowing out at like 230whp.
Although my speeduino knockoff from ebay does pretty good for being a daily drifter, I still don’t recommend one and will always say go for a megasquirt unless you are tuning yourself then consider a speeduino but I will always recommend a meqasquirt from now on.
What setup did Mattman had , did you buy just the engine block and nothing else from his setup i don't remember ? It was mad crazy in the turtle miata !
Speeduino fanboy here and I'm offended 😆most of the speeduino boards are actually way better designed and more modern than megasquirt 2 (not megasquirt 3). Plus it's actually open source unlike megasquirt.

300 Hp in a Miata, that's crazy - Nissan 350z territory. Have you considered an engine swap? Check out 'Rocketeer' MX5 (they're UK based), who put a 3.0 litre v6 from Jaguar (it's a Ford engine). This engine is same weight as the 1.6 Mazda, as it's all alloy, and the larger displacement V- configuration makes it ideal for supercharging. I'd say you could build a genuine 400+ Hp (possibly 500 Hp) Miata that retains it's nimble handling by doing this! May even be a competitor for your Volvo sleeper!
I always wonder on any of the dyno tests that you see on YT or other places, just what is the resolution of a dyno and how are they calibrated? Folks seem to get all moist about 2 or 3 HP out of 300 w/o having a clue about the resolution of the machine or if it's been calibrated. Nice looking car BTW, had one about 30 years ago and it was a great car.
Surprised it got on the dyno. Im joking but i mean even with abit less power still shows in smaller cars less powers needed, but 295 still decent i guess its how it handles abit more and puts the power down even without power. I think i had fun on 59 horsepower the car was light tho.

That motor was making 21psi on my car no issues.
I just had my oil pressure sensor do the same thing It was corrosion on the terminal cleaned it off and it fixed it

My stock 1.8 with 2560r makes 270whp and 310nm for about 1yr of hard trackdays and zero problems
Just change to an EMU black and you’ll feel the difference trust me
Just use bosch/vag coils, they clip on don't need a big bracket on top of the engine for those ugly LS coils
