That's why I think turbo builds are so much better especially in a state like California then all motor builds. If you want to get an all motor build to pass smog by putting it back to stock your screwed. Your cams are different your high compression Pistons are different than stock your rods are different than stock your head is most likely different than stock. Now with a turbo build I could just have some fuel system stuff, catless exhaust, turbo and beefed up internals like forged rods pistons and crankshaft but all to stock spec and then to make all your horsepower you just run a good tune and then you're forged internals will hold up to the boost. When it comes time to get smogged you can literally just take that stuff off and not have the hassle of opening up your motor because your Rod's piston and crankshaft will work the same as stock parts.
@@4touchdowns1game29 Or just...go to a state that doesn't have smog test? I can do whatever tf I want to my car here and the inspector couldn't care less. As long as there's no obvious glaring safety issues like oil dripping onto the exhaust.

Pro tip: Cut a length of vacuum line length-wise and push it onto the metal edge of the hole you made for the IC pipe. It will act as a buffer between the IC pipe and the frame so you don't get squeaks and rattles from vibration.
For over a decade ive been using hairspray on couplers and vacuum lines as a little bit extra hold when in combination with clamps and zip ties. Easily removable bond.

Tip for a MAF car to run an open air BOV. Mount the MAF after the BOV, this is sometime referred to as a Hot Side MAF, meaning it is after the turbo (it could be before or after the intercooler). Usually a MAF is mounted before the turbo. On my KA24DET setup on my 240SX I changed from a normal pre-turbo MAF to behind the BOV and a lot of drivability issues went away.

I noticed that when the piping goes through the hole you drilled, it's silicon inside a metal edge. I would highly recommend lining the edge of that hole you drilled with rubber or something. It's easily done by taking some small diameter tubing and splitting it lengthwise. Wouldn't want vibrations to force the edges to wear through the silicone connector!
literally getting a miata as my first project car down the road once I get myself a C4 corvette for a daily driver (I only have a motorcycle to my name rn). So these videos are gonna come in clutch once I get to this part of the 'project'.
When it comes to fin density, its a delicate balance of maximum surface area vs minimal resistance, which is why there are SO many different types of fins at different densities for different applications.
A small tip, when you cut the large hole for the piping (left side) make it slightly larger and use a small rubber tube/fuel line that's cut lengthwise, push over the cut metal edge to create a soft edge for the aluminium piping to bump against, saves rubbing a hole and loosing boost. (if that makes sense lol.?)
Just to clarify fin density improves cooling by physically providing more surface area for the air to touch, thereby enabling to pick up more heat in the same amount of time as it passes through.
