Yesterday was my father's birthday. He would have been 111 years old. He loved Amos 'n Andy, and he and I used to watch it on TV together in the 1950's. Good memories.
I didn't ever think I'd ever see another Amos ' N' Andy episode since it Was banned From Television by NAACP. I'm enjoying UTUBE revivals that I haven't seen in at least 50 yrs.
Kingfish's Secretary, Season 1 | Episode 2, aired 5 July 1951: Alvin Childress as Amos, Spencer Williams (Jr.) as Andy, Tim Moore as Kingfish, Ernestine Wade as Sapphire, Johnny Lee as Calhoun, Nick Stewart (Nick O'Demus) as Lightnin', Detective with Harrington Detective Agency, Ruby Dandridge as Henrietta Smith, Jeni Le Gon as Daphne Jackson, and Sam McDaniel as Customer.
I sure love this series. One of my grandpa's brothers was a man who was the spitting image of Kingfish don't forget this older brother of my grandpa had the racial looks of the black grandfather they had. A more kind man I've never known. My grandpa wasn't kind to his own son or his only grandson. His brother however was someone I remember the home movies of him picking me up in the air to hug me. I was extremely small as a child. Mom loved that portion of home movies as I was talking to him as he picked me up for the hug his wife had made the greatest fudge my dad said he'd never tasted. But being hugged I was upside down as I shut up and hugged his head I didn't remember what I was thinking precisely. But from my and his reaction it was familial love. The kinds of things like when Kingfish would sometimes get angry at his wife. But when he thought she left him, he was a wreck because he truly loved her. One episode that I don't think of any TV series on any sitcom going to his pastor and I believe he was trying to put through a divorce. Because of getting angry at his wife but when the pastor talks to them about what a wonderful wedding they had and he starts going through the history it's almost as though he knew what they were there for and he was going to be there to remind them of the day they got married. That to me to see them and their faces and demeanor change so much, if they were reminded of just how much they loved each other no doubt to say you can have problems you can have arguments you can have disagreements but you were bound together and as I would say in holy macaroni. Or maybe that was The little Rascals. Between that one to the episode where the other one becomes Santa to buy the doll for the little girl it's criminal that too many people don't understand just how moving the series was. Not only a comedy but very moving when it came to the story itself. Like the expensive coin and making the phone calls. Perfection.
How the Kingfish acted out that milk/apple scene was genius! He didn't have to say a word and we got the point of what he was thinking. Tim Moore is a talented man!
banning amos and andy is the most egregious, outrageous, contemptible, unheard of miscarriage of justice....oh chairman mao! well i guess id better skidattle!
Tim Moore was a boxer and a jockey in his younger days . He did this series after retiring from show biz . They found him in his hometown of Rock Island IL .
I HAVE A LOT OF OLD RADIO SHOW CASSETES AND AS A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE TELEVISION GENERATION AMOS.AND ANDY WAS ALWAYS MY FAVORITE. WITHOUT THAT SHOW SANFORD AND SON MAY NOT HAVE AIRED WITH THE "blue comedy" actor REDD FOXX AMOS WAS A HARD WORKING CAB DRIVER BUT THE KINGFISH AND ANDY got the lines It could to see the show again IRISH HILLBILLY FROM CINCI!!!!
To bad blacks couldn’t just enjoy the comedy & talent of these actors. This was a good fun show. Activist were so whiney they put these black actors out of work. Instead of being happy & supportive!! The shows they have today do more to disgrace blacks in general than Amos & Andy ever did.

It is a sad commentary that there is no Star on the Walk of Fame for Tim Moore and Spencer Williams, two excellent comedians.
And Spencer William's was also a director, did you know that ? Very talented man.

YoungJanetJ I agree! Tim Moore was a master at physical comedy, malapropisms, and word play.
This show is hysterical and Tim Moore is a comical genius.

They open the path for the ones now and day and they don't appreciate what this is great comedy
A different time. The society elevates over time. Many modern day comedy’s have taken from these programs: I Live Lucy, The Monsters, etc.
And Bewitched. They copy certain pieces of the plot.
Each scene packed with humor.
stationary fever....i think i have that
I have that fever big time!

IRISH HILLBILLY FROM CINCI!!!!
Henrietta Smith is Dorothy Dandridge's mother, Ruby Dandridge. #yjj
But a lousy mother she was.
Dorothy certainly didn't get her looks from her mother
Sapphire's IS SOOOOOOOO FINE !!!!!
Wade can switch from a harpy to an intellectual who appreciates ballet and the arts. Excellent actress. My favorite is Calhoun.
Oh how I just love kingfish and his wife and mother in law, from hell!!!!!!!!!!!......smdh
damn political correctness.
