    Some background: Cruyff (first guy in the video and in the description) is considered one of the originators of "total football" which is basically having every player be a great passer and involved in the play. He was a Dutch national and a Barcelona team legend as a player and manager. Pep Guardiola (Bald dude with a beard, who was also the manager in the Messi GOAT video who said he would win it all and did) is a Barcelona legend as a manager because he really implemented this Tiki Taka style to great success with Barca. He then managed Bayern Munich and is now the manager of Manchester City. Xavi (#6 for Barca) and Iniesta (#8 for Barca) are considered two of the best midfielders ever, and were highly influential in the implementation of Tiki Taka. They both challenged Messi and Ronaldo for Ballon D'ors in their peak years.

      Total football is where all players can play all positions fluidly at all time. Thus, the striker is the first defender when possession is lost.

  • @StephanSpelde
    @StephanSpelde 3 года назад

    Alright, let me try to explain why Tiki-Taki is the highest level a footballclub can ever achieve...
    First of, Tiki-Taka means the art of touching the ball just once. Or to say it as Will Smith has said it in the '90s: Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick, BOOM!
    Now why is this technique so powerfull? It means that a team is A: So used to playing together that every player knows where their teammates are in any given situation and therefor can pass the ball without even looking. (We've seen a couple of those today, right?) B: There is always a teammate open to pass to. C: The ball is doing all the work, so the players don't use a lot of energy running around. And finally D: The opponent does keep running around from one place to the other, which will make them feel tired fairly quickly, so they'll be even more easy to beat.
    So this maybe sounds a little bit like an easy strategy, but throughout history there are actually not that many clubs who have reached ultimate Tiki-Taka levels. It is very hard to achieve this level. But every now and then, a club reaches that threshold and the whole world is in awe (except for maybe the US ;) ), like yourself were, watching this clip! Welcome in the wonderful world of Football my friend!

    That Suarez goal was something else. There was a Wolfsburg player Grafite who scored an insane goal against Bayern Munich with his backheel, but the Suarez goal may be the greatest backheel goal I ever seen. Love me some tiki-taka, great passing is the best thing in football or basketball. Check out Francesco Totti, master of backheel. In my opinion best passer in history.

    React to Johan Cruyff. One of the best players in the 70s and coached Barcelona in the 90s and pretty much tiki taka came from that genius brain of his but pep Guardiola perfected it from 2008-12

    • @carlosdasilva1485
      @carlosdasilva1485 3 года назад

      Guardiola didn't perfect it; he learned it as a player, and as requirement within Barcelona as a coach; he was very fortunate to have the players he had !
      He was in the right place at the right time...no more, no less.
      Why didn't he do the same at Bayern Munich, or Manchester City ?
      No doubt an excellent coach, but not an innovator!

    Many of these are just good one touch play and teamwork. But tiki taka is the stuff you see with Barcelona where the players are very close to eachother and pass it between eachother very quickly and accurately, sometimes with it looking beautiful but pointless. It required great chemistry with all teammates and perfect technique with the ball.
    The point of it is to move the ball so much and so quickly that you disrupt the opponents organisation and positioning, opening up space in the process.
    It was said, "You're not moving the ball, you're moving the opposition."
    The more you can move the opposition the more space you'll create for runners.
    Teams found it incredibly hard to deal with tiki taka at it's peak. Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson compared playing against Barcelona to being on a carousel, it would make you dizzy how these guys pass the ball.
    This style was loved due to it's beauty, however, as others have stated it has now pretty much died out and hard pressing, work rate and a more athletic approach is now adopted by the most successful teams.

    The height of this style was kind of between 2007 and 2016 when Barca and Spain were dominating club and international football. It was style that very exclusively associated with those two teams, obviously helped by the fact that about half of the Spain national team at that time was made up of Barca players. It was only beautiful to watch with Barca though. With Spain it became this tedious pass around in triangles in non-threatening areas like your own half and it become keeping possession for the sake of keeping possession. Lots of teams tried to copy the style with varying degrees of success. It did have a kryptonite though - well coached ultra defensive teams who show very little interest in attacking except in opportunistic moments. Chelsea and Inter are two famous examples, even though Barca did beat Chelsea multiple times.
    When that class of Barca players (Iniesta, Xavi etc) got old the style was already on the decline. It has been kind of replaced by this fast, athletic high pressing approach which can sometimes be equally as exhilarating to watch. Ironically the great Barca team from a decade ago was also one of the top high pressing teams in the world - so you can start to see why they were so dominant.

    Good comparaison with great area of Spurs ! Perfect actually !
    Tiki Taka always existed , but the one who most developped it the most is Pep Guardiola , you saw him in the GOAT movie , it was the Barca coach who was praised. It's basically a succession of very quick passes , with players never touching the ball more than 2 times : first touch then pass , or just pass.
    It's very hard to do cause you have to have a perfect chemistery , always know where your players are gonna be , and always pressure the other team in their own part of the pitch.
    Barca played the most beautiful tiji taka ever with Pep but just like the Spurs , it's a style that can become VERY BORING when it's not perfect.
    So when the masters midfielders of this tactics were old/retired (Inesta and Xavi) this style died with them. For quite months and years Barcelona became a boring team with mainly back passes...
    It became a team who had 80% ball possession on a game but did absolutely nothing with it except pass it to Messi and pray he'll do something magic.
    Not so many teams play tiki taka anymore. Man city (currently trained by Pep) is close to that , but not sucessful. It demands to have unbelivable midfielders , and all the team constantly working together...it's just too hard , you can't do that on any teams
