Do you see now? When in the US they say soccer is boring coz it’s a low scoring game, it’s because they don’t understand this kind of stuff. The beauty and tension in the build up is a spectacle in itself.

Pep Guardiolas Barcelona 2008 - 2012 were the best at it IMO, their style (called “Tiki Taka” by most) built on a Dutch method called total football which was brought to Barcelona by Johan Cruyff, Arsenal and Liverpool have used a similar style in the past, Liverpool had great success with their “pass and move” style during the 80s

  • @dovah2167

There are no set plays in football, but tiki taka is just “pass and move” so it makes it hard for the defenders to track both the ball and the running attacker.
But yeah there are absolutely no set plays unless it’s a free kick or a corner, most of the time these guys are just smart and they know where all their teammates are so they pass it quickly

    • @bethelchris2016

@bethelchris2016 no he's referring to plays like they have in American football. That sport is a lot more stop start and they like select plays for certain situations (I'm pretty sure - I don't follow the sport). So when Americans first stsrt watching football it can take them some time to understand football is a lot more fluid - more like Basketball. He's definitely not talking about patterns of play.

3:41 "What's the best passing team in history?"
Barcelona, around 2009-2015. No doubt. Prime Xavi, Inietsta and Messi was ridiculous. There's a reason you see them so much in this video. (You even pointed that out.)
Btw, as you said, not everyone can do this. The reason Barca were so amazing at it is because many of their players literally grew up together. They played in Barca's youth team since they were around 13 years old. They know where the other player will be without looking.

First clip nd last clip was Arsenal btw, a team good at sharing the ball. there's good tiki taka and bad tiki taka, the good makes players lose their formation and shape/move the ball forward for a chance at goal and the bad is just passing it around with no movement and wasting time. every team can do it bc its just one touch passing, but very few can pull off good progressive tiki taka

    • @Anon97123
      @Anon97123 Год назад

Passing it around isn't necessarily wasting time though. Holding onto the ball is a tactic used to win games. The more you have the ball the more tired the opposition get trying to win it back. And you're holding it looking for a moment where the opposition lose their formation/aren't compact enough to exploit and score from. As Pep said, they can't score if we have the ball. Obviously progressive tiki taka is good but you can't do it non stop for 90 minutes. Often, getting control of the game, asserting dominance over the opposition and playing the game at your tempo is needed.

Barcelona is the king of tiki taka. In futbol there is one ball and whoever keeps it controls the outcome. If your opponent doesn’t get the ball they can’t score. The 2009-2011 Barcelona team was a monster. They had 60-80% ball possession. Spain won the 2010 world cup with 7 of the starting 11 being futbol club Barcelona players. Total futbol was brought to Barcelona by Johan Cruyff (from the Netherlands) and became the “Barça style”. Pep Guardiola in my opinion perfected this style. It can so badly overwhelm the opponents that they are running around chasing the ball and it’s like they are chasing shadows. By the time they get there the ball has already been quickly passed to another player. The physical energy wasted chasing around a ball they can’t get to is killer. By the second half your opponent is exhausted. Watching this tiki taka Barcelona team was like watching a choreographed dance. Best thing ever! Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets were the midfield that controlled the pace of the game. Futbol in it’s purest form.

The "move" you like that you spoke of when the player receiving the ball allows it to pass between their legs instead is called a "Dummy" in street soccer. Very effective for opening up space quickly or making space for a teammate to shoot. And it looks filthy slick🔥⚽️

iki-taka or Tiqui-taca is a style of play in Spain's football, characterised by short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession. The style is primarily associated with the Spain national team since 2006 by the managers Luis Aragonés and Vicente del Bosque.

  • @guittadabe5214

You have to do team defending to stop it. As the passer runs after passing, the defender has to have the self-discipline to stay with him and deny him the pass back. It does take a bunch of offensive players being in the same proximity to properly complete so many passes, so a good counter-attack is to have very fast wingers who could counter-attack once the ball is taken. Bayern Munich destroyed Barcelona one year thanks to this strategic response.

I do not know if there's a specific name in english to that move in which the player let the ball pass trought him leaving the pass/or shooting to his teammate. In Brazil we name it "corta-luz", what would be in english the "equivalent" expression for "cut light" (in a completely free translation). Perhaps it's an alusion to the front lights of the cars, when you keep switching light (lights on, lights off lights on... ) to send a signal to the car in front of yours on the road. (I'm sorry if my english was not clear enough. I hope you got it).

Some of these are tiki-taka but not all of them, some of these were just very nice passing plays but not tiki-taka. But tiki-taka is pretty rare so guess the one who made the compilation needed to get a longer vid so he used passing plays as well as tiki-taka.
There are 2 teams who use tiki-taka often and its Barcelona and Arsenal. A lot of other teams do it too but arsenal and barcelona do it the most and the best

  • @Anon97123

Its not really plays tbh. In football there's a lot of fluidity and freedom. Players make decisions in the moment to pass or drive forward with the ball, to come short to recieve the ball or run in behind for a long ball. Obviously teams are organised and there will be a general philosophy of how the manager wants the team to play but the players on the pitch make the decisions in the moment. Its not stop start like American football so its all about fluidity.
