  • In this Casio A700 review, I see whether this new thin Casio watch can supersede the famous F-91 and A158 models and become the new king of cheap digital watches. This watch is around $40 at the time of recording.

    It's a Casio, it looks like a Casio, but it is also elegant enough to go with a suit, so thin it disappears under a cuff - and that mesh bracelet is its perfect companion. I want one. In my opinion, definitely "liquid-nitrogen" cool.

Not that would matter as everyone I have ever talk to about casio is "it will never run out of battery, the strap will break first." And I have only ever had one strap break after 5-7 years and the battery only then was starting to show it age with the digits starting to fad slightly.
    Reliable, cheap, basically unbreakable.

    I always go back to my A158WE for a daily wear work watch. The fact that there's something thinner is honestly amazing. My only qualm is the backlight. I'd go out and get one of these today if it had the illuminator technology instead of the sidelight, which is objectively subpar. Shame, really, but maybe future iterations and variants will have the better lighting. Great review!

    By the way, the side light problem (also on F-91W and on other models) can be easily solved with a super-bright white (or green) 1206 size (on this thin one, maybe 0805 or 0603) SMD LED. Simply replace the LED, if it's not bright enough, find a resistor in series with the LED and replace it by a resistor with 3..4 times smaller value (usually 39 or 51 Ohm).

    Hi Ben, I came across this watch late last year while browsing in a jeweller here in my local town centre. The price at the time I got it was £27 and because it had a grey dial, a mesh bracelet and was really slim I went ahead and purchased it. I wasn't to be disappointed with it and I wear it often. It's very stylish and very comfortable to wear as the bracelet actually curves with your wrist which is why it's so nice to wear. I really would recommend Casio watch buyers to get one of these watches as they are awesome. Thank you for reviewing this watch.

    "Casio watches are a bit of an addiction"
    I can confirm as well, I used to own a knockoff F-91. When that one kicked the bucket, I immediately bought a genuine F-91W, and after this video I went out of my way to Amazon myself an A700w.
    I definitely plan to buy more in the future, as well. The A168 is classy and distinguished, but not overbearing. It knows what it is, and it's not trying to overstate itself.
    Casio will forever be one of those watch companies that just sticks around, always there when you need a cheap, reliable, nice-looking watch.

    • @notsportlive

      how would you say A700w compare to F-91? If you had to choose one which one would you pick?

    • @_waymin
      @_waymin 3 года назад

      @@notsportlive I don't wear it too often, but it looks super nice and stays pretty comfortable.
      I will say though, the stock band on it is a bit of a hair puller at first. I recommend one of those tight-weave flexible metal bands, or maybe a NATO like most Casios (however I don't think a NATO would look too great on a spiffy watch like the A700w)
      The backlight is way better on the A700w, of course with it being a newer watch, and all.
      I'd prefer the F-91 because it's cheaper to replace if broken, and has a more neutral look. With what I wear personally, I don't think a chromey watch matches. I like my NATO F-91.
      It's mostly preference.

    The A700, with its subtle silver/grey/black theme is a far more elegant watch than the F-91 and its multi-colored variants.

    Congratulations on the 20k subs Ben.
    I'm not really that big a digital watch to be honest... In fact I think I've only reviewed a cheap Skmei on my channel and the other digital watch I own is a G-Shock that I only use on holiday. So doesn't get much wrist time now 😢. But this one looks really nice and the improvements such as bracelet and backlight really make a difference.

    Nice vid and cool watch.. however I prefer the F-91 due to its more sporty looks.. in my opinion this new A700 lacks the character the F-91 has. Congrats on the 20K subs, keep up the good work!:)

    • @ivanhernandezmx
      @ivanhernandezmx 3 года назад +4

      of course, the A700 doesn't pretend to seem like F-91, the A700 is a tribute to SA-410 a legendary watch that did to Casio win the good design award in 1982, it's another line, it's another history, is for another segment of the market

    I bought this watch after watching your review. It's a sleek little thing and makes my G-Shocks look like trucks! Mine came in a beautiful black-and-gold metal case stating 'vintage collection' on the outside. I paid around $65 on Amazon and think it's a fine buy. Thanks for your review! PS--love the slinky band, I can remember paying nearly $100 for one looking this from Italy, in the seventies-

    I own the Casio A700W-1A which is the same watch, just with a different bracelet. It's the most comfortable watch to wear and so elegant. My only complaints are the diameter (if it were only 2 or 3 mm bigger it would be the perfect watch) and the sturdiness. I already got a few scratches within the first days of wearing it.

    I bought a Casio 863 SDB-500W in the 1980's (Can't remember the exact year it was introduced), which IMO was and will always be the perfect runner's watch. I still wear this watch today, although the year only goes up to 2019, so I had to set it for a year in the 80's which had the correct day of the week for the current month. I'll use this watch until it no longer functions.

    Some months ago I bought a digital Casio to remind me of the old days. I already owned a Casio Gshock Tough Solar, which is bulky and uncomfortable. This is the 159 model, and I find myself only taking it off when I go for a shower. It is by far the best watch I have bought. Cheap, reliable and you hardly know you are wearing it. Casio knows what works!
