On this episode we modify our Duromax 18hp #XP18HPE charging system. We found the aftermarket bolt on parts to convert your stock 1 amp charge circuit to a 10 amps system for under $50. It requires replacement of the charge coil, adding a voltage regulator and 15 amp circuit breaker for added protection. Parts list seems to match both 212cc and 420cc style honda clone engines. Wiring and splicing required, but we hope this video helps out.

WARNING THIS DOES NOT WORK, these do not charge at idle and put out only 6 amps maximum at 38 to 4,000 RPM anything under 38 you will barely get enough juice out of your rectifier regulator to recharge a battery even just the ammount of juice it takes to crank starter and THIS WILL ONLY PROLONG TIME BETWEEN BATTERY CHARGES

The link that you show for the aftermarket charging coils on ebay are not the same as the Honda OEM changing coils. The output for the aftermarket coils are rated at 3 amp. The Honda coils are rated at 10 amps. I have ordered both coils and the Honda coils are much larger and therefore, more output. Thanks for the video, it is very helpful.

What's the extra black wire with a white strip coming out of the charge coil. There is 2. 1 I can't figure out what it does when I rewired it.

  • @xRamRacing

Does it matter how you hook up the two wires of the coils to the voltage regulator? I would assume it doesn't, figured I'd ask.

You think this would work on a 136cc?

Question if you don't mind: Why if it says the coils can push 10AMPS you are only getting 4? Thanks in advance.

It's just the power of the engine can't reach 10 amps

Is there a noticeable power difference in the motor?

Luckily my wildcat 223cc has a charging coil

I can't find a parts breakdown or wiring diagram of the Wildcat 223. Most pull start motors don't have charging coils, it is more common on electric start engines. If it doesn't have a voltage regulator, it may have the standard 1 amp coil. This will still be a good upgrade if you want to charge your batteries faster.

@@DavidSanchez-cd7fz When your boys going to finally bite the bullet and get the wildcat 223cc? It’s a superior engine in all aspects it’s even more superior then the predator 224cc. Piston has special rings like a racing motorcycle creating less friction. Piston weight for wildcat 135grams. predator 212 Piston weight 158 predator. Predator224cc Piston weight 162 grams. Wildcat has Flat top Pistons for better performance. Wrist pin weight wildcat 40/41 grams predator 224 44/45. Everything else is better too. The 58 mm crankshaft is made of ductile iron so it will bend and flex before breaking. It can handle a stage 4 easy. It had a 3 mm longer stroke than predator 212 and 208 engines.

How does it not work if it increases the 1 amp output to 6 amps? 600% improvement over stock. If someone does this modification on a mini bike with no battery, the output amps will be enough to run LED lights or other accessories compared to the
