Mr. Polk's objective analysis is very good indeed. Subjective analysis of the hand is a little different. Doyle Brunson is an old master at knowing his opponent's behavior and mood. He knows Jamie Gold will call with almost any two cards on his last hand before leaving. He knows that Guy will want in on that, too. On the flop Doyle bets big to narrow down the field, and it works perfectly. On the turn, he continues betting big because he's trying to make Guy believe he's bluffing. Remember, they've played together a lot and Doyle knows his opponent. When Guy raises, Doyle is sure his strategy is working ....
I agree that it's a really good spot to bluff for Guy. Being that he has A5s, he certainly has A4s in his range and likely A2s as well. 44 and AJ also probably take that line with the flop being fairly dry. While that's not a huge number of combos, it's enough that Doyle thought he was behind. As can be heard in the chatter after the hand was over, turning the nut flush saved Doyle otherwise he probably has to find a fold, and Guy's bluff looks awesome.
Guy made huge monetary contributions to online, he lost at least $25 million across a handful of accounts, with Durrrr, Phil Galfond and the Dang brothers being the main beneficiaries (probably Ivey and Antonius too). Thank the poker gods for people like him and Bill Perkins.

Hi Doug, can you please explain why is OOP a good call on the flop? VS Doyle IP range (AA,JJ,AJo,AdKd,AsKs,AdQd,AsQs,AdJd,AsJs,AdTd,AsTs,Ad9d,As9s,Ad8d,As8s,Ad7d,As7s,Ad6d,As6s,Ad5d,As5s,Ad4d,As4s,Ad3d,As3s,Ad2d,As2s,KcQc,KdQd,KsQs,KcJc,KdJd,KsJs,QcJc,QdJd,QsJs,[25]KK-QQ,TT,AKo-AQo,ATo[/25]) 70ish combos has barely 36% equity and even on the best turn (3 remaining 5s) it only improves to a very vulnerable 2pair. Yes an A would be also good (tot 6/48) but almost all the rest of the deck looks hostile to me. Is it my range for Doyle too tight? Would it be too tight to call only with TP+BDFLUSHDRAWS? Thanks, your videos are great.
Just an hint maybe? The average comment here is trolling or joking, I think that if you want to bring more clients to your training site you should also answer to at least some of the "technical" comments and ignore the rest. imho. Thanks for the answer anyway.
Love the raise by Guy. A-5 is literally the bottom of his range, as there are no draws that could have called the flop, so the raise is almost mandatory to balance his nut hands. And he has some equity when called, too. Only the diamonds saved Doyle.
If I was Guy I would put Doyles range like this: AA (1 combination), JJ(3 combinations), 44 (3 combinations), AJ(6 combinations), A4(1 combination since I only think A4s is an option and then it has to be spades), AK/Q(16 combinations), most AXs (not A6s, or A7s + A4s already counted for. 12 combinations). If you factor in that a lot of people called pre-flop and that no one else called the bet on the flop I think you should discount some KQJ. I would discount one K/Q/J each from my math (the discount should be weighted more for K and less for Q/J but I simplify a bit). After this adjustement, and the A2 of diamonds on the turn (I dont think the turn bet affects the range much): AA (1), JJ(1), 44 (3), AJ(4), A4 of spades(1), A2 of spades (1), AK/Q(12), A3/5/8/9/T of spades (5), A3/5/8/9/T of diamonds(5). Ahead vs 2, chop vs 2, 7 outs vs 15, 6 outs vs 5, 4 outs vs 8, 3 outs vs 1. Calling the turn bet is not profitable, now is a fold profitable? The pot odds say that, to break even, you need a fold ~40% of the time if you have 0% equity and are committed for all of Doyles stack if he calls. I think that AA, JJ, 44, AJ and diamond draws always calls. If we disregard soul reads, A4 will almost always call, A2 half the time, AK (not diamonds) less than half the time, AQ almost never, AX of spades never calls. On average (without soul reads) there should be 13 folds and 20 calls which is 40% folds. So already you break even. Against the calls you have on average ~15% equity so the average profit of this play should be a around $70k.
Rubbish ... Doyle sitting on top pair with a reasonable kicker would always have called the raise. Way the hand played out he knew that 90% of the time his hand was best. The diamonds were the insurance against the 10% of the time he was behind. That's why it's called gambling. Doyle is a lifetime gambler and a good one at that.
Love the format of the vids! Taking classic hands and stopping during the play and pausing and explaining and then seeing the play unfold. Really great concept!!!

Nice videos, I like them.. Can you add little more background about players(like calling station, nit, etc) involved and table dynamics to commentary.? maybe someone got bluffed couple of times etc..something you think might have an impact on decision ..Keep those videos coming!!
i still dont get why he should bet so big the turn? can you explain it more? whats speaks against check? what you think about Laliberte range there? if Guy has A6-A9 he wouldn pay turn+river and some KT, QT, KQ, has easy fold to that sizing, why not check(or make smaller sizing) and bet or blufcatch river. dimond will be a card that Laliberte would possible bluf?
FedorMachida Last indeed. In most cash games (depends on the ruling), can 'run it' as many times as you want, until the deck runs out of course. In this case they ran it twice, meaning the winning hand for each run gets 50% of the pot.
@ 10:22 This is the first time I've ever seen Doyle even a little "angry" 😲 it only lasted for a second, but the anger was real and it clearly flashed across his face. This is not a knock on Doyle as he's a GOAT, a class act, legend and a consummate professional!!

tbh... I watched this because of Mr. Brunson. Commenting on already played hand is like predicting yesterdays weather. Basically everything you said on the commentary on "how this should have been played" is.. "how you would have played it".
I think we all know what it's like to play in live cash games where we make a standard raise UTG only to get 7 callers, because these games play way deeper and looser than online cash games. You'll inevitably need to make bigger raises pre.
I know in theory Guy has to call the flop c bet but in practice I don't think folding it loses you all that much ev. Of course, Guy is a mega billionaire so folding prob never even entered his brain
You can tell J Gold is attempting to be flashy and big-shot with his money here. When he's counting out 100's for the $1200 call, his body language says "everybody watch me counting the bills". He then follows this up with calling $10,000 when he had garbage. His WSOP run was once in a lifetime luck. After, he showed he didn't have any staying power, and squandered a latte money. He is an annoying hemorrhoid at the poker table with his nonstop attempts to get people to bet or not bet. Glad he's off the scene now, not being a pita to other players...

Navy Seals and Top Gun fighters alike salute you Doyle for your grand legacy doing battle in the poker ring with Emersonian self-reliance and Special Forces warrior instinct, distinguished class, first-class professionalism, honesty of the highest order, and Texas dusty long-road grit. You are a true "road scholar" in pursuing truth in search of poker excellence like a Texas beagle picking up the scent in the pursuit as well as building the game to international bridges of friendship and bonds between people around the world. From the smokey back rooms of Texas poker games of old, you brought the game to the leading edge of game theory and computer analytics. Doyle, rest in peace in the halls of poker Valhalla with your fellow poker brother in arms like poker legend Chip Reese. You highlighted, in your "road scholar" journey, how the truth can set us all free not just in the poker realm in the big game at Bobby's, but sublimely more importantly in the bigger poker game of life. For a poker legend of your grand influence, you deserve a WSOP poker ring attached to your coffin much as is done in Navy Seal tradition at a funeral. You promoted truth and friendship for all around the world with the game of poker as the bridge of convergence. In the end, truth and love prevail amidst the drama and challenges of the beautiful game of poker and in the big poker game of life. The heart-wrenching sight of a flag-draped coffin is a solemn reminder of the sacrifice that brave men make every day to protect our country. But what is the significance behind the Navy SEALs slamming a metal insignia on the fallen soldier’s coffin? This action is a final tribute to the fallen service member and a show of respect to the fallen soldier’s family. It is a sign of honor, of appreciation, and of love that is paid to the fallen service member. It is an action that speaks to the commitment and sacrifice of our servicemen, and a symbol of the respect that the Navy SEALs have for their fallen comrade.

After this adjustement, and the A2 of diamonds on the turn (I dont think the turn bet affects the range much):
AA (1), JJ(1), 44 (3), AJ(4), A4 of spades(1), A2 of spades (1), AK/Q(12), A3/5/8/9/T of spades (5), A3/5/8/9/T of diamonds(5).
@@eriklinderstam2140 that would have been Doyle's thinking and why he knew his hand was best and called the all in (effectively) raise.
Eric remind me never to play poker with you, im just a fly by the seat of my pants,
Love the format of the vids! Taking classic hands and stopping during the play and pausing and explaining and then seeing the play unfold. Really great concept!!!
Personally I'd like to see you do some stuff with Tonkaaaa. You guys are great. Also, in before you should call it Polkaaaa hands.
why would you ruin the best content(tonkaaaa) by diluting it with Doug Polk. More is not better.
Why are you on this channel then? Take your donger elsewhere.
I like his little videos. Im not a huge fan but a casual fan of doug polk. I was commenting on your mash up idea. Adding DP to Tonkaaaa is a bad idea in my opinion. My donger goes where it pleases :)
Even Tonka himself says Dougs stream is the only one he can learn anything from because hes the only streamer who is better at poker then him. Why wouldn't you want him doing content with Doug?
And this is why I don’t subscribe to his channel cause of all the talking Doug does...
Nice videos, I like them.. Can you add little more background about players(like calling station, nit, etc) involved and table dynamics to commentary.? maybe someone got bluffed couple of times etc..something you think might have an impact on decision ..Keep those videos coming!!
Would be ok, except for the idiot in the upper right hand corner who is in love with the sound of his voice.
It seems he is paid by the word.
Absofuckinlutely !!!!
Why are there two cards dealt at the end?
I was wondering the same thing.
oh shit you fuckin donk, halarious!😂
i still dont get why he should bet so big the turn? can you explain it more? whats speaks against check? what you think about Laliberte range there? if Guy has A6-A9 he wouldn pay turn+river and some KT, QT, KQ, has easy fold to that sizing, why not check(or make smaller sizing) and bet or blufcatch river. dimond will be a card that Laliberte would possible bluf?
Poker tournaments need Gabe Kaplan to come back commentators.. he the best ever...!
probably too old to want to do it regularly, but he was the best
What does it mean by running it twice. I did not understand what happened on the river. Did they play 2 river cards? Thanks.
FedorMachida Last indeed. In most cash games (depends on the ruling), can 'run it' as many times as you want, until the deck runs out of course. In this case they ran it twice, meaning the winning hand for each run gets 50% of the pot.
FedorMachida Last in an all-in situation of course
Thanks. I have never seen this before. Pretty interesting.
@ 10:22 This is the first time I've ever seen Doyle even a little "angry" 😲 it only lasted for a second, but the anger was real and it clearly flashed across his face.
This is not a knock on Doyle as he's a GOAT, a class act, legend and a consummate professional!!
I know what you mean, it,s alot of money and doyle PAID to see guys hand, at that moment guy knows he needs help and for all Doyle knew he just lost well over a quarter million bucks.
At 10:11 Guy Laliberté wants to see Doyle's hand...but after prompting him to show his hand, he refuses to show his ....POS
Does that speaker ever shut up. Had to mute the whole video
tbh... I watched this because of Mr. Brunson. Commenting on already played hand is like predicting yesterdays weather. Basically everything you said on the commentary on "how this should have been played" is.. "how you would have played it".
when Doyle flat calls the re raise on the turn, he just knows. he must have had a read on guy
He just didn’t feel like folding. Happens sometimes where if they got you, so be it.
I think we all know what it's like to play in live cash games where we make a standard raise UTG only to get 7 callers, because these games play way deeper and looser than online cash games. You'll inevitably need to make bigger raises pre.
when doyle raises first in a 5way pot your a5 is beat fo shooo
I know in theory Guy has to call the flop c bet but in practice I don't think folding it loses you all that much ev. Of course, Guy is a mega billionaire so folding prob never even entered his brain
"The Lebanese chip dance..." Still kills me every time.
Analyse some Casino Royal hands. It would be so funny 😂
These games were so awesome with the massive stakes of cash. What a feeling it must be to win 800k in giant stack of cash.
the best episodes are when durrrr is in there that week.
why did they changed the last card(at the river)
3 years later and I'm still wondering
They ran the river twice..kind of a side bet...
"next up is jaime gold who decides he hates money and limps behind with j7 off"
You can tell J Gold is attempting to be flashy and big-shot with his money here.
Doug Polk irritates me no end. I can't believe I still bite on his stuff every now and then.
An insight into why Guy was inducted into the internet hall of poker fame.....online losses over 30 mill! Excellent as always Doug
“I would like to see a $7k-8k bet from Doyle...” who the f.... are you to tell Doyle the D Brunson how to play?
Actually Doug Polk is/was considered one of if not the top heads up cash game players on the planet in online poker.
You must be unfamiliar with doug polk and new to the channel
K-Fresh Official and you must not be reading the comments. This guy is a joke compared to Doyle Brunson. Doyle is a poker legend. One of the greatest. No joker with a RUclips channel can say what he should have done after the fact. This guy is narrating is crap.
@@Jaguar3001 you're a moron if you think Doug is "just a guy with a poker channel". He was possibly the greatest HUNL player ever and is extremely accomplished even as the modern fields are far more challenging. Doyle is a legend, yes. But few are capable of matching Doug's technical brilliance.
@@Jaguar3001 Also, I trust the top HUNL player in the world over some RUclips comments
Yo Doug, I'm going to plead that you up the anti, one episode. Jamie Gold is the only known poker player to go broke from solely playing poker. Can you do like a doctoral on what habits he refused to break over various hands that could antidoctally show us, from your mind, why in fact he went broke. I know it might seem incredibly obvious, but it would be very interesting to watch. Of course my opinion is jaded, I'm a degenerate gambling novelist who loves watching poker online and try to only play a couple times a month, but I love the videos and enjoy the company your personality brings to these clips, because let's face it, watching poker on RUclips might be a sign someone needs an imaginary friend or better drugs. Keep up the fun work. I would have never thought while watching you on One Drop that you'd have RUclips blogger up your sleeve for a sixth street suck out, lol. Thanks for reading, Dave.
No big loss for Guy since he's a billionaire lol. A drop in the bucket for him....pennies
Yes and no. Billionaires don't have billions in the bank. It probably feels like losing 500 to 1k to a average player. Hurts but isn't something they will think about in a few weeks.
If only Doug Polk was in this game....he'd leave with every brick and chip on the table. Crazy how he knows exactly how to play each hand.....absolutely God like this man
One of their Calls is my entire Bank account😕
you're not alone like that
Great video doug ! Are you going to stream on twitch for the TCOOPs ?
Jamie's reaction was amazing.
congrats on 50k subs doug from newcastle uk.
Lol this guy literally likes to hear himself talk. Did he really question the play of Doyle? Cmon.
Does this game allow wrap around straights or something? I thought professional poker didn't but I'm no expert.
A to 5 is a straight, K to 4 isn't.
Well played Doyle.
Good Job Doug, I love every video!
It looks so easy way back in the day
Can you do Farha vs Antonius, where Farha called down Patrik with turned 2 pair (K6) from this same show? Thanks.
Hi Doug,
Why not call the show Polker Hands? Can't believe you haven't thought of this!
It is an action that speaks to the commitment and sacrifice of our servicemen, and a symbol of the respect that the Navy SEALs have for their fallen comrade.
thanx for the explanation, i liked it :)
+Jo Dubois glad to hear that! Thanks for stopping by Jo :D
Doug Polk Poker I busted my roll....could you please donate 500$ id-spiritcheck on pokerstars,.I also emailed @dougbusiness many times but you never reply :(..im extremely depressed plzz help me out, incase there is any issue plzz reply on mails I sent you. Please help a loyal fan, I promise I'll subscribe to upswing poker for years. I'm a proven winner who did some bad BRM but I have learnt ....this is my life Doug plzz help out a homie.....
Your postings are too repetitive as far as this one hand is concerned. Plus, you drag it out with allot of BS that I could call knowing the hand ahead of time. No more watch for me.
The question is who made more money that day? Doyle winning that pot or Guy with his investments and interest he collects with all his billions?
I cant watch this channel. Waaaaay too much talking interrupts the game.
Thus dude needs to stfu and let the freaking video play . We know exactly what’s going on
He is thinking he is ivey or something!
I agree with Gary, remember your audience here is the viewers not the players, not very classy doug
I enjoyed watching all these hands when they happened a decade ago. The analysis is a bit brain dead and rather slow.
Ask yourself this....If Doug Polker was any good at poker, why is he running a RUclips channel?
Mitchell Reid I see....He can make half a million quid in a poker hand but prefers to post videos of 10 year old hands which will make him 0.01p per view. Don't give up your day job....if you have one.
Mitchell Reid His analysis is boring as shit, and always on very old hands. Hope that helps. Why would a good player need sponsorship? Can he not make enough to bankroll himself?
p.s. - "sponsorship's"......you sure?
