- Jamie Gold (2006 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion) and Patrik Antonius butt heads in one of the largest pots in the history of televised poker. This cash game pot swells to a ridiculous size of $743,800 in a brutal cooler spot. However, they elect to run it three times. Anything can happen!

Gold: takes 2 minutes "hollywooding" with his money on the turn before going "All in"
Antonius: "Instant call"
Gold: "Fuck"
Jamie Gold is in a 3-Way statistical dead heat for the worst player to ever win the main event alongside Joe Cada and Robert Varkoni; and Jerry Yang and Chris Moneymaker aren’t far behind.
Cada has since won 2 or 3 braceletts more. Would not say he's one of the worst. Jerry Yang was terrible i thought.
@@winstonjohnson8463 Cada is light years better than anyone else you listed or Gold lol.. He's final tabled the main twice and has 4 bracelets. Yang is the worst I've seen by a decent amount.
Jamie was all-in bluffing with the 3rd nuts. That's some next-level range balancing,
Hey Dawg. I think you should call the series "Polker Hands". If you agree to this tip, it comes with a small fee of staking me to play High Stakes Poker against Paul Phua. I would wait for AQo and play it very aggressively against him out of position. He would not know what hit him. Thank you
Analysis makes sense. Please discuss the merits of having three shirt buttons undone for each player.
😂😂 stop
Patrick Antonius looks like a 1980s anime character.
my life is complete now
Great video Doug, I'm sure for many of us these old HSP episodes have a special place in our hearts.
Omg in 2020, this video feels like a warm blanket 👊
Who's here in 2019? "And Patrick looks hungry." lol
I love how Gabe is talking about what Jamie might think Patrik has on the turn and what he is trying to factor in to his turn play, when we all know the only thing Gold is thinking is TOP SET! BEST HAND!
I actually really like the lead by Antonius on the turn. The King looks like a scare card and a great spot to bluff at it and he probably assumed Jamie would take it as weakness which he did. He also has history with Gold so maybe he's seen him overbet shove in similar spots. I don't think Antonius would always lead that spot just this hand against Gold. I think from Golds POV it does look kind of week to check call then lead out. Gold would of never shoved if Antonius didn't lead out, if he would of checked he would just 2/3 potted it. Antonius isn't worried about balancing against Gold he's trying to exploit him, this is 2007 don't forget.
Have you ever thought about changing your name to Doug Pok?
Then, he would need to rename his series to Poker Hands, seems like too much of a hassle.... oh w8...
driking water

John Smith Doug 'Poker man' Polk.
Wow at Robl going 4 for 4 there. Even without the exposed cards most of which would seem to improve Antonius' chances on subsequent runouts, it's 0.27^4 to scoop there. A little better than one half of one percent!
jamie gold always saying " what can i do right ? " "what can i do " like he is looking for confirmation of the other players that he is not that bad then anybody thinks he is. running like Gold - so how can this guy be broke ?
Yo Doug! Was playing last night and thought of a good topic for you to cover if you want - cash game strategy behind buying in for the table limit, when to add on, why is it important to always have as many chips on the table as possible (if you feel that way), comments on players who buy in for table minimums (i assume much more prevalent at lower stakes) - pretty much stack control strategy i guess? i think its might be an overlooked variable of cash games?
this would be a really interesting topic for a video. would also like to hear your thoughts doug
Yes please!
Yes!
"He should think about playing in a few tournaments"
Bang bang
Had to be said
nice one. funny :)
Funny, how they are all rooting for Jamie because he is the fish at the table :D .
@Ryan Crump because you're one of the fishes at the tables
@@DoctorChained Your fam are fishes.
@@DoctorChained of cause they dun wan the money to go into the vault of patrick
Wow 0,4% for Robl to win 4 times.
It's all up to the cards at that point.
Actually much less since most winning run outs reduce the chances of good future run outs, since the cards from previous run outs would be much more beneficial in the deck. As an extreme example of what I mean, the odds of winning on the river with a flush draw on the turn against top pair would be about 1/5 with 9 outs to go. The odds of winning it 10 times in a row is %0 exactly, not 1 in 10,000,000, since you cannot river cards that have already been used on earlier rivers.
EricSmyth14 but the % was always about 25 as even the winning cards effected both players
was it 4 x 4 x 4 x 4. so about 1/256?
Doug this probably your best anylitcal breakdown of a hand that I have seen. Great job, I really miss your hand reviews
Great series Doug. I do enjoy watching Polker Hands.
Hey Doug, great as usual, can you analyse a hand where Juanda had trips?
**twips
There needs to be more hand breakdowns involving Jamie Gold
Lol only the ones he table talks though
Facts
Lol Jamie hated when he got snapcalled vs the jam... Why jam in the first place than - silly goose
he was bluffing ldo
Jamie describes himself as the best bluffer ever, I guess he's obligated to bluff with top set. That's some next-level range balancing
He wanted Patrick to think a while and then call. It was only when he snap called that Jamie realized he was behind.
While i agree i have to say that like 90 % of the people i know would have never ever folded that hand and most likely played it the exactly same way
In his defense, sometimes you shove quad 7s and get snapped and aren't too particularly happy, since there are two straight flushes on the board. Sometimes you're just like "fuck".
“And he’s got a gut shot to the nuts” I’m sorry but that phrase is just hilarious. Not sure how you can say that without laughing 😂😂😂😂😂
This guy can see the cards and reviews it like he’s some expert. Maybe he should do this spot on analysis live but without seeing anyones cards, and let us review his analysis after .. that will surely not be as spot on as his is here.
Running it 3 times is the best ... just less than $250k for winning one, just less than $500k for winning two. :) And yes that Robl hand is the sickest thing I've ever seen. ^_^
I miss early 2000s poker, it was very entertaining to say the least... When Jamie Gold bulldozed the main event while basically breaking every written and unwritten rule in poker, those were the DAYS 👊
In the same session there was also a huge bluff from Antonius that got called on the river by Farha, maybe it would be a good hand to review.
Im a new dealer and just wondering what's the fastest way to chop up this pot? So you have to count all of Jamie's stack and then take that amount from Patrick's stack and put all of that in the middle and then give 2/3 of the pot to Jaime?? Or is there a faster way? thanks.
I'm amazed you overlooked the Jaime Gold rule reference here. Literally a huge part of how he won in 2006. In the beginning he said "feels like aces, i wish it was", he used to blatantly name some or all of his whole cards. People are so blind sided by someone who literally gives direct hints of or names their actual cards, because it seems so counter intuitive.
As Doug put it his routine "describing what it could be or what it couldn't be", but he literally gives direct hints at what hes holding. Probably why he completely disappeared. How long could such a strategy work for....
Hi Doug, thank you for the great analysis as always and just wanted to clarify something.
You say that it would make more sense for Gold to call Antonius down on the turn and the river. However, if the river comes a blank - which is likely - and Antonius bets again, would it not be reasonable or +EV to put in a raise? Given how Antonius plays I think he would be value betting sets on the river and would be willing to call a river jam by Gold because he would be getting a great price to (if Gold flatted the turn the pot would've been 150k already, and if Antonius bet 2/3 pot on river it would be a 250k pot even before Gold's raise/jam, and Antonius would only have 200k behind). Antonius might be value betting a set of 10s and might even bet/call a jam with a set of 3s on the river, or even QJ of hearts on the turn (yes little loose perhaps and not many combos of that). I don't think he'd have QQ in the spot because it'd likely be a 4-bet preflop.
Would love to hear what you think. Thanks!
Not reasonable, antonious is saying he has a straight with his turn lead.
Thanks a lot, makes sense.
I think Patrik leads turn because he doesn't want it to go c-c even if it looks like a straight he thinks that Jamie will call him anyway.
Shoving here is a bad play in general since Jamie is in position. Shoving removes the river betting street which is a better play out of position than in position. Consider raising small or calling with your entire range in this spot.
One thing i didnt hear is that Jamie basically told everyone what he has preflop...Farha for example is very confident in his read that Jamie has Kings...probably everyone at the table picked that up
while that being said i totally agree with your comment about why would you call on the flop expecting a good hand on your opponent side so there is no real way of bluffing on turn and river so you basically hoping for a king or at least an ace..and you can never be 100% sure about your reads anyway but when they are so deep its maybe worth a try and im pretty sure patrick thinks he can outplay jamie if he doesnt have a must call hand oop still always sucks idk probablz manz wazs to play that hand
What happend to high stakes poker and poker after dark and those kinda poker shows? I dont play that much poker, but id love to watch some more new shows like that.
This happened to me once (live not online). I turned the nut straight, the top set who slowplayed on flop raised and called my jam. We ran it twice and the board paired both times on river... classic
I don’t understand running multiple times if you’re the one in the lead.. why give your opponent opportunity to win??
@@brandonbasso7840 You mitigate the risk to lose. If you run it twice as a 70% favorite. It's 9% to lose both. 49% to win both. 42% to tie. It just reduces the risk.
Jamie Gold biggest fish of all time?
Anyone got a link to the episodes of that flasback plo game? Looks like alot of fun
+George W. Bush
I'd like it too if anyone knows, even the name of the show would be cool.
its the 2009 Aussie Millions. Don't know if there is a video for the entire game though
KovyOMGPewPew
Thanks! I'll have to try and track it down. Never seen live plo before.
Old school move. Call the flop, then lead with most things that get there on the turn.
I have floated the flop and led the turn with a flush, straight, or paired board on turn as a bluff
Thanks for the vids Doug!
RE: Antonius' decision to lead the turn, does it matter if we're unbalanced by betting the nuts here, vs Gold specifically? (Given that he's a weaker pro, tends to be passive on turns etc).
Doug you didn't even analyze patrick's call on the turn after Jamie shoves.
Patrick has the nuts. What would he analyze?
@14:47
Laak: How did you do that?
Robl: You see, the trick is I just let the dealer do all the work!
First time I'm this early. Doug, I gave you like number 9!! When this video gets 1000000 likes, I will feel like I started all this. Keep em coming Doug!
Thanks bro! Lets get her rolling!
Ps. I came across this video without a notification. I was watching your hand against Ivey. Can you maybe talk about the analysis Joe Hachem gave on the river? That was ridiculous! Needle him!
I think Patrik's lead on the turn is very good play, Jamie's hand looks the whole time like AA/KK/QQ/AK and Patrik knows he's not capable of letting go any of those but he might check behind to control the pot size. Leading there equals value (Gold mucks only bluffs there) and the river might bring an action killer card. Wp imo.
love your view on hands learning alot thanks keep it up.
this is the only time the TV commentator is more entertaining than Doug.
"Let me get a pen. It's less than one percent."🤔🤷😂
great analysis. I understood alot and appreciate it.
What is a 2/5 short stack player doing playing a game with $400k back?
Loans exist for everyone
Doug any idea what happened to Jamie ? I also met Patrick once it's my claim to fame and it's my RUclips profile pic :) Keep up the great work
Bag Dad Thanks Big Dad, keyboard warriors out in force.
They have nothing to add to the conversation just pathetic insults for no reason.
he went bankrupt.
Running it three times: Well, easy. The dealer takes all the chips and money that belongs in the middle, put it right there in the pot. Then she/he carves it up into three equal piles. When all that is done, then you run it three times and each time you ship one third to the winner. No confusion, no problems.
That Great Game hand was sooooooo sick. Now I am not as mad about my missed draws when I had more outs than Antonius.
Do you think though that in these cash games, where they almost always run it more than once, that maybe they'll make weird plays to get it in before the river?
What are youre thoughts on this hand from an early Viktor Blom, This was before he was outed so I dont think anyone at the table knew it was him.
Doug's analysis is very good but the best of the video is the face of the blonde in the 9:50 minute contemplating the pot sice ... :) :))
he ripped it bc he's jamie gold and has a reputation for wanting to be known as the best bluffer in the world. Antonius would call with middle pair or better there based on the image and antonius is a bit of a calling station anyways.
Genius shove by Jamie Gold, that's why he was world champion.
All of this goes out the window vs Jamie Gold- if he's quiet and passive he's strong, if he's talkative and aggressive he's weak- that's why these pros ate him alive in these sessions- they had such a read on him
Just a observation heads up/btw: If someone were to be new to your channel and did a Doug Polk speed run of your videos, it would be hard to figure out when you're not trolling. Most of your videos feature high level analysis and trolling, while some are just trolling. It takes a bit away from your effectiveness, in this man's point of view. Keep up the great work, I am a big fan of the content.
I like 3 times when the favourite as the one drawing uses up their outs when they suckout.
Good point on kings being discounted. I really love to hear your thoughts. Watching this over Walking Dead.
Patrick calling on the flop is fine, as I'm sure he's aware that gold is notorious for betting the flop then checking the turn, so he knows if he misses he can likely get the river for free, I also disagree that checking the turn is the best play, for the same reason stated above, patrik doesn't want the turn to go check check
Hey Doug, love your analysis, they have really helped me improve my game, I watch pretty much all your videos. I was hoping you could do a Tom Marchese hand, one in which their is much more thought in the players actions. For example the hand with him and Daniel Negraneau in which he calls Daniels river bluff with bottom pair, I think it took place during the 2015 Aussie 250k high roller. That is just a suggestion feel free to choose which ever you find interesting. I've noticed you've analyzed a few of the hand you played in high stakes situation, you might want to throw one in where you actually win the pot or you might start to lose credibility with you audience. JKS lol
Hey Doug, great video. If Patrik had checked the turn, how would you have played the hand if you were Jamie Gold. I'm not sure if he can get away from his hand here should Patrik check/raise the turn. Thanks.
EDIT: Also, should Patrik be check/calling or check/raising a turn bet from Jamie? I know he has the nuts, but there are a lot of relatively live hands his opponent could have.
1:00 Ace Ventura's full name is actually Ace "Jack Off" Ventura.
Fact.
Barry looks more excited than usual.
I think Jamie was shooting an angle with the flop raise to throw out cash look at the reaction while you keep adding cash and announce " I'm just counting" looks at Antonius and shoves.
love your analysis doug.

one of my favourite episodes of polker hands, good job doug
Why do you have a pho hawk
Awesome video!
How does patrick have a gutshot to the nuts? King on the river followed by a 3 queen or 10
Patrick's bad beat is standard crown casino melbourne style
Did Doug rob that 'tournament' joke from the time Gabe played on the show?
Love the look of the servers face in the background around the 9:45 mark.
Can u also put on the equation the fact that they can run it more than once on the turn since they are both all-in?
At 3:35 he said excedero 2 times , what does it mean ?
Someone help.
Doug, I don't understand why you don't like Patrick leading out with a 45k bet on the turn. I'll give you that it was a loose call on the flop - Jamie made it cheap there. Is a 45k bet really representing a straight on the turn? Jamie has made it clear that he's got a strong hand and Antonius ends up getting re-raised, exactly what he wants to happen.
i think the Robl hand, which ive seen before, is one of the most insane examples of luck. It reminds me of hitting the same number in roulette three times consecutive. So if you want to play Omaha, this is what can happen.
polker thoughts on reversed implied odds?
Should Antonius really play GTO on the turn here? I understand that there's an optimal way to play the hand, but if he puts Gold on the hand that he has, shouldn't he just try to extract maximum value here, simply because the stakes are so high? (it's better to win a little extra here and lose a little bit more on similar hands when stakes aren't so high)
are the HSP hands back?
4:00 did he just say "overpairs like kangs" ?
Doug, you always sound like you're totally against donkbets. Or are there situations when you use them?
He is against them in general, sometimes more than others though
See Doug's huge cash game hand against Antonius.
flop donk bets =/= turn donk bets
That was brutal at the end
Jamie Gold loves checking the turn with everything else than monsters so I actually think Antonius SHOULD bet the turn.
dude, jamie gold is a fish, patrik can't care less about having balanced ranges against him.
I love how Gold still came out ahead in that hand. Pure luck got him 2/3rds of that pot when he should have lost it all.
Ehh running it 3 times he probably statistically should win it once there
@@crimsonstripes
Yes, if you run it 3 times.
That last hand Antonius vs Robl is HORRIBLE! Robl had a 0.5% chance of taking it all. Antonius always seems to run bad with cards to come.
u are wrong Doug, donking turn is the best options for Patrick and it worked out to be the right play. THis is live poker this is not theory GTO and HU online play*
robert lamotta he doesnt have to put jamie on a set, he just wants to get payed on two streets, with this board its likely jamie at least has a pair and will call down but might check behind some holdings
Why does Sammy whisper to Antonio that he has 45 off suit when the flop comes out ?🧐🤔
I'm convinced the producer of this show wasn't a Jamie Gold fan. It seems like the cards were set up to ensure Jamie Gold went broke! They gave him KK and Sammy Farha got AA on the VERY FIRST HAND! Karma is a killer.
Bart grabbed that pen really quick.
wasnt the jam from jamie on the river a string bet ?
The part that looked like a string bet was him putting in the 45k Antonius bet. He hadn't decided how much he was raising yet
Good stuff Doug! Keep it coming... PS. Start your VLOG!
i believe they have a word for this in my country. bazam!
Doug i will just say one think, great video!
it is almost hid because he smiles and does it before and after he does it. But the beginning is a smirk and it is involuntary. That does not mean he always does it. Does not mean anything. But a smirk is involuntary. Most confuse the smirk and smile and never see it.
How does Antonius win the third and final hand? What does he have that beats the 3 kings?
Straight
This hand is a classic example of you’re only getting called by better hands if you raise. Jamie probably busts Patrick if he just calls on the River
