He was about to go full super saiyan.
That must be it. Dre is not stupid enough, and is totally untrained - no way was he going to start something. But he might have unknowingly stepped in the wrong direction or said something. The grab was a warning - stay there, stay silent.

Love how Han held Dreys arm like he was nervous or scared they might be attacked. When in reality Jackie would wipe the floor with the guy
But he had like 20 students all trained so that’s y it wouldn’t make sense to make a fighting scene here because there’s no way jackiechan couldn’t have beat them all and if so that would just be unrealistic
Well, not exactly in the alternative ending they were a match for each other.
He did that because he didn't want to loose control

@Mbrace I agree, that instructor sounds very threatening saying how Mr. Han and Dre entered and no exiting without agreeing to fight. Since this movie is a reboot of the 1984 "Karate Kid" film with Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio, the instructor here on this film sounds a lot worse than John Kreese on the 1984 "Karate Kid" film. Perhaps the only reason why the instructor here is threatening is because, he's sticking up for his student on what he said at 1:35. When Mr. Miyagi and Daniel Larusso entered the Cobra Kai dojo, it seems like John Kreese was trying to hurry things up to get Daniel and Mr. Miyagi out.
Chinese society is different, this shit is probably allow it, complaining will bring shame to the family.

That’s what I was thinking that these students would be able to beat up the cobra Kai kids easily
I mean, Cobra kai's (series) version of Cobra Kai exposed the students as a bunch of losers in the past. The 1984 Cobra Kai looks tough tho. Lawrence and his black eye looks intimidating back then and so is his blonde friend (prolly even scarier). Don't even get ke started with Karate kid part 3 with Silver. I don't know if there are Martial Arts Instructors out there with mindsets like this, but I'm thankful that the ones I've been with teach the honour and discipline of the art. Whilst we are learning something that is inherently violent, it is what the practitioner learns and does with it that makes the difference. For me, it is very important to be able to retrain oneself from lashing out in emotion and violence by abusing the techniques that they learn. But also to learn humility and respect for one another and yourself.
Yeah it's always been very much about control, discipline, and respect from my perspective with proper sportsmanship. There's no need to attack someone who is down if you've won the fight.

And the acting isn't bad here. Higher level here too. They should have called it "Kung Fu Kid"...since they weren't using Karate.
The actor who plays Master Li is in numerous Jackie Chan films where he always plays a negative / opposing Character (esp wrt Jackie's own character).
Given the man's behavior and attitude towards Han and Dre, as well as his "FINISH HIM!" at the end of the battle, I can't help but shake this feeling that he had a picture of Dre in the Dojo just to make sure his students know who really to aim for in the tournament. I understand respecting culture, but that man needs to have his ass handed in more way than one. And if that doesn't knock him down or at least humble him, then I don't know what will.

This was a better movie than the original imo
The Cobra Kai dojo is probably as intimidating or more intimidating, but damn, the Fighting Dragon seems to be more intimidating than the Cobra Kai. I guess it's the atmosphere and the lack of English lines that makes them less easier to understand is what makes their presence more intimidating.
Intimidating-looking people would sometimes sound even more intimidating if they didn't speak English or the native language spoken by the audiences. See the Grongi in Kamen Rider Kuuga for example, the fact they speak in their own language instead of Japanese makes them more ominous and mysterious.
