Josh would be like the guy they call in on Pawn Stars if someone came in with a historic guitar pedal.
Underrated comment
They wouldn't because half of the Pawn Star Guys aren't "experts" just guys that make money with Pawn Stars. Anybody that sells to a Pawn Shop today is desperate to be on TV or stupid. Online auctions on Ebay and Reverb sell closer to true value.
People in most pawn shops are desperate, but not to be on TV. That is true for the pawn stars whatever the fuck their shop is called. I've been to two today and let me tell you half the fucks that go in there are crackheads and tweakers selling stolen goods, the other half are people who buy too much shit and then have to pawn or sell to make rent. I've lived with both kinds of people and saw a couple today. Luckily Ive never had to pawn something, but if you have to then I'm sorry bro.
@@daelinblack6681
Or guys trying to find guitars. Cause you can sometimes find an expensive one at a pawn shop for a steal.
he would then probably leave the pawn star store with it too 😂
Josh, here in Brazil there's a story of a Wah-Wah/Uou-Uou/Fuzz Pedal called "Sound". His Fuzz is in all around the Tropicália scene, and in the 60's and 70's Brazilian rock (Bands like Mutantes, Tim Maia, Raul Seixas, Gal Costa and others big artists used this pedal in their albums and in concerts too). It has a distinctive sound (a skinny and very clipping fuzz) and is very singular, I think. All the guys who research about Brazilian Music talks about this Pedal in particular, and the importance of his to the music here. We have to remember that in these decades almost didn't exist Fender, Vox, Gibson, the big worldwide music companies, in Brazil. So here we have to deal with the stuff that was produced here (like England in the 60's too), and this pedal is one of this gems that was produced here in theses decades (Is considered the Age of Gold of Brazilian's electronics and music instruments). I think you could research more about this pedal and other brazilian gems (Talk with the owner of Malagoli Pickups. Is the actual company who inheritage these pedal company who produced this Sound Pedal back in the day) and talk in one of your videos, because is very rare and very singular. I think that could be a great video and a great pedal to get it and replicate it with your brand.
Os Mutantes guitarist certainly has a great sound. and he has to be using at least one type of fuzz on Bat Macumba.
João, pode indicar alguma literatura sobre esse pedal? Não acho nada pesquisando no google hehe
eu posso estar enganado, mas não era o som clipado na mesa de som?
Great story
@@theoo5657não, era o distorcedor RVIII, feito pelo Cláudio César Dias Baptista. Um fuzz com circuito original
Interesting to hear Josh actually talking about his own products for once. These look and sound awesome!
#knobwood
Interesting
Recently lost my Job of the last 4 years because of this Pandemic & ive had zero motivation & inspiration to play my guitar since this all began.....then today i seen this video & felt instantly inspired.....so i jumped on sweetwater and snatched up a Smiley Fuzz :) & i cant wait til it comes.....thanks josh
Crossing Titan Best of luck to you, bud!
Good luck to you fella. Enjoy.
Best story i've heard all week. That's awesome, enjoy it!
Best wishes to you and enjoy the pedal.
Hope things are turning around for you!
Ive really loved any time youve gotten into the history of fuzz, both on this channel, and on That Pedal Show.
Fuzz truly is the final stop on the G.A.S. train. Once you get the itch.. well... when you dance with a bear you stop when the bear wants to stop! A giant Fuzzy dancing bear
William Davis this comment wins today.
Imo Eurorack is the final stop on that train
You scratch until you have an open wound.
Describes Josh perfectly...
You're damn right
(Inventor of the Snuggie accidentally puts robe on backwards)
".... My God."
Awesome playing, tones, and your demo tunes are SICK, too!!!
Wait what, Ben Eller, why you suck at guitar? Thanks for various setup videos man big help in the past, shall go Sub!
Would love to see a JHS version of the Fender Blender...that would be a dream come true!
Oh a fender blender would be rad.
Yo, the Fender Blender would be sick
My exact thoughts!
Yes, please.
You're like the coolest teacher I never had at school Josh
He's the one cool supply teacher who comes in when you least expect it, and is actually fun, and you immediately sit up & pay attention for once.
facts
@Krystle Couture Oooof that is N S F W
Alright so I’ve spent this pandemic building my first pedal board. I’ve been playing for 19 years and I’ve always used multi effects units. Honestly this channel has leant so much to my understanding of guitar effects and inspired me to make the switch finally. And in so doing has emptied my pockets of folding dough for the foreseeable future.
This channel also generally has a really supportive collective in the comments section. So cheers to you reading this too.
bro, you're a source of inspiration! your way of doing things, the glimpse we have of your life's philosophy through the channel, the motivation and inspiration behind jhs...it makes me want to make music! to play, to research, to learn, to get involved. thanks a lot for all you guys are doing! and my very best regards from brazil's south end!
Are you actually kidding me - how in 18 years of guitar playing have I never noticed the fuzz face actually *HAD* a face on it?!?! My tiny pigeon mind is blown
Fuzz face..... It's in the name
Haha I didn't realise either 🤔😂😂
Its not just a clever name after all!
Lol same. I can't un see it now
wha? h...how...?
It took me a while to see it too. Haha!
I would really love a "Baldwin Burns Buzzaround " fuzz ! I've read so many stories of Robert Fripp of King Crimson using it,
but never really have seen it replicated from a big well known company. Which matters a lot for 'outside from USA' buyers.
If JHS makes it, it means it will get spread around the world. Please do this ! If you advertise it as the King Crimson
-Fripp tone pedal, the classic Prog rock fans will explode with you.
Cheers for the already released pedals, it all sounds real fresh and great.
DG L this
Wilson Effects does a great version of that!
Marcus King rules! When I first heard “Rita is Gone,” it ended up in my rotation for months. Can’t wait to play through that Supreme. Keep up the great work.
Josh, hats off to you and the team. I love your passion for this stuff. It’s like you initially invited us to dive into a history book and then said, nope. Let’s get more hands on. Let’s not just discuss it. Let’s experience it. Fantastic! Wishing you the absolute best and I look forward to getting my hands on these!
Is it just me or are Scott's jams getting better and better, and more creative? Especially the hard rocky ones. I would legit listen to at least an EP of this stuff, maybe an album!
I'd love to see a Harmonik Percolator remake with improved feedback response. Steve Albini showed ho he uses the pedal mainly as a feedback generator when he's "too lazy to play guitar". I just find that idea to be wonderful. And you have the possibility to make a good funky circuit, as evidenced with that wonderful "Communication Breakdown" effect you made for Paul Gilbert.
I love when you rock right out in your videos, man. Also, you are a great teacher, because you make people who listen, love what you're subject is. Keep up the wicked work!
I discovered your show a few days ago and I am binge-watching every single episod :) The quality and the format is awesome. You rock!
Josh, just a quick note on pronunciation. The 'ei' in Shin-ei is pronounced like the beginning of the word 'eight', not like the word 'eye'.
Also, you may be interested to know that here in Japan, Teisco is actually spelled Tesco, without the 'i'. テスコ in Japanese!
Thank you I've always wondered how to say the name correctly!
Right!!! Lived in Japan for a while and always point this out to wife when she joins me in geeking out with Josh.
'ello pedal, I shall call you Tesco.
"And know that you're gonna be the first person in the history of the world to know about this."
Reverb: *already posted something about the pedals before the JHS Pedals channel*
DAMN YOU REVERB!
Haha, got the same feeling with Rabea. I guess they didn't read the time zone on when they could release their video :D
@@mactipiak exactly
Unfortunately Andy Martin dropped the Ball a couple hours ago. I had already bought the Crimson prior to this video.
Yeah, the JHS video is like the last one about these pedals in my subs lol
@@TheSpyromilas looks like Rabea was the first though ...
You’re doing incredible work. This is not only amazing for working musicians like myself because of its value and price, but it’s also extremely informative and interesting to learn about all of this HISTORY!
That album is mind blowing, im so happy that you gave him a spot in your video! i wish you even more success josh, awesome content
Do a HM-2 without knobs because everything's maxed out anyway.
Yes
An HM-2 is better with knobs. It can also do doom metal and shoegaze if you tweak it.
@@emmemmemm2360 Nope, All Death Metal All the Time
@@lucasmunoz6951 nah bruh, shoegaze ALL THE TIME
@@smoshbooz Shoegaze none of the time please
You should make: Mosrite fuzz, shin-ei companion fuzz, original maestro fuzz tone circuit
Isn't Companion same as Super Fuzz?
Original green Russian? Maybe a Roland bee gee fuzz? The original Ampeg scrambler was also a pretty cool fuzz.
EHX already does a replica of the green russian. That woul be a pretty weak move to put another one out there.
a replica of the buzzaround though would be awesome.
yes they should do the maestro
All of those tones sound really Killer - I love your little Jam segments to showcase them. You're such a legit Tone-head! : D Great Video!
Not a big fuzz fan anymore, but DAMN! Good on you...this is such a cool idea and just shows how much love there is in the pedal community.
The Boss Hyper Fuzz cause they shot up in price as of late. Also, silver sparkle.
This is what I was gonna say! I would love to see a re-creation of the Boss Hyper Fuzz because boss is best!
The hyper fuzz is based off the super fuzz, definitely not the same, but the Supreme sounds incredible.
The Hyper Fuzz is based on the Univox Super Fuzz. Your best bet is another Josh Scott recommendation: Behringer SH300 Super Fuzz. 30 bucks and it's killer.
The hyper fuzz for sure!
hyper fuzz for justice. Bring on the dopethrone
My two-year-old doesn’t have tooo many words, but when she says “mo ‘tar daddy” that certainly means she wants to watch one more JHS Show
Nice episode! And the Marcus King Band is definitely an interesting record tip, thanks for that 😀
Hey Josh, I watched this video last night, and haven’t stopped listening to Marcus King since. Thank you!
I’d love to see a Mk 1 Bender, and a Ampeg Scrambler!
I want to build an Ampeg Scrambler. There’s good kits available. Jorma from Jefferson Airplane used one.
MK1 Bender for sure
Joining the call for an Ampeg Scrambler
I also loved recreation of the tone bender 1.5 from jhs (video from last year with 60 fuzz collection). I've tried to recreate it myself, because it looked like a fairly easy build and failed miserably...
@@scotthutchens1556 I built some Scramblers from TonePad PCBs. Do it!
Marcus King's entire catalog has been on constant rotation for me since I watched him play at Norman's Rare Guitars. He is a monster and a great kid. Frighteningly good. Check out "Jealous Man"and "Slip Back". Those are just two of my favorites. Honestly there are VERY few songs. that I don't really care for. His drummer and bass player are also crazy good, and locked in.
Josh, incredible sounding recreations, love the paired back semi industrial design cases. JHS have a done great job of turning iconic classic fuzzes/drives into modern classics. Rabea did a great job here in the UK of showing what tones and sounds can be created from the various legend fuzz pedals. One day when I have more cash available which is quite short at the moment I would like to purchase the legend Bender Pedal.
Being fairly new to pedal collecting stuff like the Tone Bender felt totally unattainable to me and trying to pick a fuzz face (or fuzz face clone) feels impossible, thank you so much for this! You've opened up a new world of tone for many of us!
I demand a dedicated Legends Of Bass series!
Depends if the bassist will show to practice and change his goddamn strings already... XD JK.
@@JonManProductions We'll never do that! Silly!
@@JonManProductions No. That's where the funk is.
I'm always at practice tho
I just ordered a JHS big muff mod and then he goes and makes my wish list even longer.
I just ordered the Bender from Sweetwater. Ever since you, Dan, and Mick (That Pedal Show) went to Macaris I’ve been looking at their website and then you come out with this series. I’m not a collector and this is what I was looking for.
Wow! After the Bonsai for Tubescreamer now this Legendary Fuzz series. Neat work JHS, thumbs up.
The Tom Scholz Rockman by Scholz Research & Development had an absolutely AMAZING distortion in it. You could plug into that thing and instantly sound like Boston. It was one of the first (the first?) headphone amp things, but the output from it was clean enough to use in a studio, and lots of people did to get that Boston sound - both clean and distorted. I don't think I've ever seen a pedal version of that. I know that SR&D made some rack mounted stuff, but I've never seen something that would go on your pedalboard and give you the Rockman sound. How cool would a Boston Mass. Flying Guitar Spaceship More Than a Feeling at the press of a button pedal be?
This!
Deff in this line, I would love to see harmonic percolator, expandora MK1, maybe the foxx tone machine.
Ha! Great minds think alike! :)
Yessss would love to see a new harmonic percolator!
Danelectro's french toast is a fox tone and it's $30
While not an exact clone, a guy named Joe Gore does a cool variation on the harmonic percolator called the Porkolator.
Oh my god, the EXPANDORA
The fact that you recommended Marcus's work on Record Time made me appreciate the channel even more.
Been a fan of his for quite some time and, up until then, I had never found myself rooting for a musician the way we do for sports teams on big games... The kid has a gigantic soul. Thank you for that.
Check out the album that has the song Rita Is Gone and then move on to his solo album (his latest recording). The latter is more mellow, more focused on the lyrics and vocals and has a broader range of sonic textures.
Cheers
Josh, I just stumbled onto your channel. Lots of great info. I am especially impressed by your knowledge and how gracious you are towards your competitors. As such, I am now looking at your pedals and trying to decide what to buy for my first JHS pedal. The videos are great, keep 'em coming.
Those fuzzes are pretty legendary not gonna lie
CallmeBrenden
CallMeObama
I would LOVE to see a Colorsound Power Boost Circuit. Such an underrated circuit.
Yes that would be sweet!
Electronic Orange's Banana Boost - I think that may be what you're looking for...
will always love your deference toward the history behind what you are doing :)
That is just awesome! I had a chance to own, break and throw away a 68ish vox tone bender 25 years ago. It was beautiful. Now, I hope I have the chance to buy your Bender pedal, I just loved it.
I have a suggestion: The Selmer BuzzTone!
It's a lower-gain germanium fuzz. The one that Syd Barret of Pink Floyd used. Alas, it only ran at 3V I think, but if it ran off the normal 9V, I think it would be even cooler.
Or. Keep it at 3v. 2c cells would last forever in a guitar pedal.
To the Legends add:
1. Mosrite Fuzzrite
2. Jordon Boss Tone
3. Kay Fuzztone, minus the cheap plastic case.
4. Fender Blender
5. Ace Tone Fuzz Master (FM-2)
6. Ampeg Scrambler
7. Maestro BB-1 Brassmaster
8. Foxx Tone Machine
Hey Josh I was lucky enough to see Marcus King live at Bluesfest 2019 in Australia and that boy can play, sing and perform. An absolute highlight and very sad covid came along and prevented another dose at Easter this year. Love your knowledge on pedals and the channel all the best and thanks Rob
That's a very cool guitar, the red one. Interesting cross between an airline and fender. Excellent vid as always Josh.
Would love a Foxx Tone Machine, Fuzzrite, Maestro Fuzz (3 knob one), oh and a Roland Bee Gee please, I need my Black Sabbath fix.
Danelectro.. owned now by Steve "foxx" Ridinger makes a new version of the Foxx fuzz tone. He tweaked his circuit (for the better)
Future fuzz: '70s Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Big Muff Pi - My first pedal purchased around '78 or 79 that was stepped on and destroyed that year during a fight during band practice between the drummer and the singer. Rock and Roll.
Remember when people had ballz? And so did Rock? Rocking Ballz.
Get yourself an EHX op amp big muff.damn fine pedal close to it for a damn good price.
I've been trying to get my hands on a Red Army Overdrive since your episode on distortion that featured it. Couldn't be more thankful for an affordable version of that pedal. Purchase coming soon, Josh!
The "Bender" pedal is outstanding! absolutely has that old school tone vibe and the boost mod makes it even that much more killer..not to mention the wedge shape looks pretty bad ass on my pedal board..JHS, you nailed it!
The Baldwin Burns Buzzaround!
Yeah the pedal of Mr. Fripp
This so much.
Yes the Buzzaround!!!
Same. There's a couple of really great clones, but they're in very small production numbers
Marcus king is awesome, his first record is amazing but his latest is kinda weird, I’m not into it too much. But his best stuff is the live videos you can find, I saw him New Year’s Eve two years ago with Chris Robinson
He has to be seen live, simply amazing.
Don't care for the Dan Auerbach produced record, either. Not sure what the thinking was. Anything before should be the benchmark by which MKB is judged. Check out the Echo Sessions videos on RUclips.
Amazing tones, of all of them, and a very fucking nice album at the end (like always) ... congratulations for the great job, I’m a real big fan from Brazil 🤘🏽
awesome looking pedals (again) always love the new pedals you guys release love your company and you guys are smashing it with these new pedals man really really awesome
Stuff I want to see replicated:
Anything by Tom Scholz
I collect Rockman pedals and lovem
I'd love to hear your take on the discontinued boss hyper fuzz.
same
Actually, that would be the Supreme Fuzz. The Boss Hyper Fuzz is a clone of the Univox Super Fuzz, just with an added bass and treble knobs and a boost mode.
I got the next model, The Boss FZ3, it's a hidden gem, a really creamy 70s porn funk fuzz. It's beginning to shoot up in price lately too
@@LordStompyHarpLoonyTunes Well, thanks for the nudge. Josh did a vid about the FZ-2, Behringer makes a dead ringer. $25 and rock your sox.
found markus 4 years ago .. has been a journey watching the band grow.. listen to Markus and the boys live .. mind blowing .. no really .. I'm not kidding .. see him / the band live .. nothing better .. he is a legend in the making .. see their set at Crossroads .. guns blazing .. soooooooo good
Great vid as always Josh. The pedals look great sound great. Awesome job. Can't wait to try them all.👽
I just realized that you look just like Robert Pollard from Guided By Voices!
I just have 2 questions:
1) what is the “mode” switch for? It’s in all the pedals!
2) Has the smiley the mod you suggested to do to the fuzz face?
And also... what about a version of the Maestro Fuzz?
Rosac nu-wa fuzz. Love this line you guys nailed it. Played all 4 at the same time today and sound itself dissapeared because the world wasn't ready for it.
Wow!!!! all this fuzzes and Markus King! Glorious.
The mysteries of Jimmy Page fuzz is what I want to know. I think in early Zep he used fuzz a lot more than people say, which we saw in the film It Might Get Loud. When he ran a dirty tone the fuzz was on. In the searing Lotta solo I think I can hear the kind of slight octave effect and hint of splutter that fuzz pedals can produce when they are in a certain mood. Lots of sounds he did that just amp overdrive alone does not quite do. But every MKII type pedal I have tried seems to be far more gnarly on the low strings than anything I hear from Jimmy. I dunno. Maybe a mix of a little drive from a fuzz, a bit more from the EP-3, and then some from the amp. Gain staging before it was a thing people talk about on the net.
I've read in several places that what he used (at least on the 1st & 2nd album) was a Tone-Bender - likely a MkII.
What gauge strings do you use? A lighter gauge may give you that treble-y twang you're looking for
Next time demo your Fuzz with a song in the style of "Sleep"! DopeSmoker-ish🤘
Long live Stoner doom metal!!!
Thank you Josh for always putting out quality products that are inspiring!!!
I love your show !! This was my 1st and I am a fan!
I think it's a pretty sad state of affairs that you don't give your identical twin brother any credit. He's not a bad guitarist himself.
You guys got to make the danelectro French toast fuzz. It's my fav, but I've gone through several and they're getting hard to find.
Have a couple. Love the tone.
They're a copy of the much requested foxx tone
Musicians Friend still has then listed, on backorder.
I love JHS! These are the best videos AND pedals out there. Hopefully I can meet Josh Scott someday to thank him for all he does for us pedal nerds out here!
I got a Supreme recently, and I am VERY impressed. It's great as-is, but sounds like an entirely different pedal with both switches engaged... like the apocalypse, in a good way... a very good way. Well done Josh & JHS!
I'm afraid that I'm going to end up with all ten of these on my board...
Do a tonebender mkI, please!
Josh! Thanks so much! I need a fuzz for a show I'm doing in here in Queensland Australia, (Yes, lucky us, gigging again since Oct., 20). Which one of your fuzzes is now my decision. Was "never" a fuzz guy, but a new convert!
I love the tone of your supreme pedal. They all sound AMAZING but I liked that one the best
I take it you know the weird story of Tony Iommi's "Rangemaster" pedal? Has anyone ever worked out what the Scottish bloke who just appeared out of nowhere after a gig by his band prior to Sabbath and said "I can make that sound better" and Iommi gave him the pedal. The guy brought it back a couple of days later and yes, Iommi says it did sound that much better. Does Tony still have that pedal? Has any pedal geek ever opened it up and discovered what the guy did to alter it? Can you make one and call it "Fuzz In Boots"?
Peavey made a clone
The only pedal they ever built
It's mean
Tony lost the original pedal, I believe that it disappeared after a gig. Check out Laney's BCC T.I. Boost, I run it into an AOR50 - when I want to destroy my rhythm guitarist!!
He got the first Analogman Beano Boost and said it was better than his original modded rangemaster so I would just go with that.
He wasn't Scottish. He was Belgian. All he did was smear waffle batter all over the inside of it.
PS- Why did you have to do this just after I ordered a Macari's Mk 1 Tone Bender. The difference in price is eye watering. ;-)
You got some of the nicest pedals out there and some of the weirdest looking guitars! You're great!
Thanks for the bonus launch discount. Will def check the linked vids!
There's this fuzz that I've always wanted - its going for $800 on reverb right now. Maybe you've heard of it? The JHS Bun Runner?
Matthew Hinrichsen even me!!!!
Humanity doesn’t have enough FZ-2 and HM-2. Take the risk. They must sell well, I promise
Dude, one of the jhs legend pedals he is talking about here literally is a super fuzz clone, which the FZ-2 is Bosses clone of.
@@ithemba it's not the same.
Josh - you are a true legend, thank you for these gifts I shall be getting every one of them.
I just can't teel Joshua how much i love his works and ideas!
I hope Dan and Mick can get their hands on these sometime soon.
Foxxtone needs more love
Danelectro just released one. I haven't played it, but it seems legit.
Josh is awesome. A walking encyclopedia of pedals. A nice guy, and very interesting to listen to. Also love his sense of humor. If and when I'm bored, his videos always entertain me! :-) Ok, time for more beer, weed, and pizza time, lol.
Marcus King is AMAZING! I saw him in Portland OR. a couple of months back and he absolutely killed it! He has such command over his instrument and tone that he is a must listen and see in person if you can! He seems like such a genuine and humble person as well. As for albums, I would start at the beginning and work your way up to the latest release. They are all great! Also check out some of his RUclips vids especially with Billy Strings! Mind Blown! So stoked to try some of these pedals too!
Great pedals! One question: When I see 2 people who look like you playing in split screen, is one of them a Josh Clone? Since you seem to have perfected cloning technology please tell us which version of Josh you copied.
jts3339 sadly it’s evil josh. We’re all going to die.
Nobody puts Drummy in a corner.
Hi ! It's an awesome project ! Thanks for giving this affordable to us. About Marcus King: great choice. I saw him live in Paris a few month ago > yes ! Incredible !
Two of my favorite RUclips channels working together, how cool is that?!?!?!?!?
This has to be proof of some sort of universal truth binding the universe..... Blah-blah-blah.
Great work Josh and Rhett !!!!!
"Knob Wood"......
I have a 70s p0rno tape called Legends of Fuzz.
Ya know i used a big muff for decades before i realized ... distortion often called hair or fuzz... hmmm Big Muff.... (realizes) oooooooooo
😂
Hey Josh! I'm balding and wasting my musical talent. In what ways will your new line of fuzzes improve my life???
I don't actually need an answer, I just want one of those mailed to me
Marcus King is great. Glad to see you include him in record time. Rhett's channel rocks too!
Nice job as always. Would love to see longer B-rolls
