It's so upsetting to hear not-Jake's points, knowing that I have had and will continue to have students with parents like this. There's a reason I've had students who consider socially transitioning terrified at the thought of their parents knowing; there's often no real way of reaching through the inflexibility of the parents' thinking. All I can do is hope that the parents will be more supportive of having a trans or enby kid in their lives and that counseling/admin is ready for the consequences of forcing these students out should the parents not be supportive.

The logical underpinning of this argument is the belief in conversion therapy, which is religious pseudoscience that has been widely refuted, including by the APA Task Force study from 2007. A person's sexual orientation or gender identity is an immutable characteristic. It cannot be changed through peer pressure or outside influence, and attempting to do so is harmful. It's ironic that even right wingers who claim to be secular still form their beliefs around conversion therapy.

When the guy said "And some people are born with one arm," he was arguing against himself there without knowing it. Does this guy think one-armed people are human? Or do they no longer fit that description because humans are generally born with two arms? If his answer is yes, they're human as much as anyone else, then trans women are as much women as cis women are. Not fitting into the 'perfect ideal' description of a category, as it turns out, does not exclude something from said category. They may be a minority of said category, or even an oddity in that category, but they still very much belong to it.
If some cis women are born without female traits but still considered women, and trans women are born without female traits but embody the same things that make the cis women 'women,' they are in fact a woman, meeting all prerequisites for womanhood.
So he's a hypocrite here, unless this guy wants to start arguing that people without limbs don't qualify as human. Or, more accurately to his views on trans stuff, that people missing hands are still human, but people missing legs for some reason are not.

I would also point out, it's absurd to assign people societal roles based on reproductive function or capacity. This is an argument that homophobes have used in the past, and transphobes still use today. They ignore that humans are social animals, and natural selection prioritizes the survival of the population over individual reproductive success. There are many social animal species where certain individuals will sacrifice their own reproduction for the sake of others. With 8 billion people on this planet, it's not vital to survival for everyone to be reproducing all the time, and with humans nearing the carrying capacity of the environment, it may actually be beneficial to reproduce less. Reproduction involves a huge investment in time and energy, after all, which could be better spent performing other tasks necessary to survival of the group. We see this in hundreds of other animal species, where homosexual couples will adopt the orphaned or abandoned offspring that would otherwise not survive. Therefore, I think it's okay to allow there to be people, of any gender, who do something with their lives other than producing kids.
