@@Nico_Sno if you'd like a case study and how people react in a situation when they don't understand eclipses, look no further than Christopher Columbus's account of when he used his knowledge of eclipse charts to bamboozle a tribe out of their winter provisions. He basically asked them to give him and his men enough to travel, the tribe elders said no, we only make enough to survive the winter. Columbus then essentially said if you don't give us what we need Our God, which is more powerful than your God, will turn the moon blood red. He then proceeded to give an exact prediction of the eclipse. Needless to say, his men got the provisions they needed. It is probable that many people in that tribe starved that winter.

@@Nobody_Fn_Important don't ask me to find which one it was because I couldn't sit through 20 hours of podcast hoping to find the right one but he began doing a "phone in" style podcast format for a while. He commented on them that he always loved Art Bell on coast to coast and listened intently to them because Art would most of his callers at their word no matter how crazy their story was, but maintained some semblance of sanity by questioning the most insane and incoherent callers and dismissing them. He said he wanted to emulate Art Bell and asked his viewers to record themselves telling their own stories and then send them to him so he could listen to them and then make comments afterwards.
He was the most high it was possible to be during those episodes if my memory serves and told some of his own stories about ghost hunts he went on and his girlfriend of the time (an Australian woman not shoe, but just as doomed a relationship) had a UFO story of her own. He would continually bring things back to biblical experiences which upset her I think as they were both sceptical towards the others experience, him towards aliens and her towards religion.
But after THAT breakup is when he began going full messiah mode and released a video undermining his entire skeptic career. Going back into his extremely old videos and implying he was always trying to redpill atheists into believing in religion by sowing subliminal messages using the green man messiah imagery. You might take it as being a "joke" or tongue in cheek and you might be right but he begins to refer to imagery in his old skeptic videos to show he was always hinting at this self opinion. What these videos also dont show are the stuff happening around it, the podcasts where he talks about how he was scared of expressing his beliefs and how grateful he was to his audience, at the same time he would pull down his entire video series and post a comment saying "you don't deserve these" and then later bring them back after his fans fawned over him enough.
I was watching this as it happened and had to stop because I legit felt troubled about his mental state and creeped out by the cultish behaviour and manipulations. It was fun for a while when I thought he was actually doing parody of conspiracies but it became very apparent that wasn't the case and his disclaimers were there to convince the audience to stick around long enough so Greg could have the chance to make them a believer.

It can't stretch back indefinitely so once too much stress is put on it it snaps back to the poles and that's what causes the aurora at the poles. yeah, his idea that a magnetic field is some static shape is completely wrong. magnetic fields wibble and wobble based on their generation (the earth's core is not a uniform sphere) and on their interaction with other magnetic fields - the sun's magnetic field is well known for being VERY complex and for snapping off whorls and loops (that's... what causes solar flares...) and those loops of energized particles mess with the earth's magnetic field.

This is Greg, The skeptic was a character Greg played who he developed. He has claimed (up to you whether its true) the character of the skeptic doesn't represent his beliefs or opinions either on religion or on politics and that he is far more left of centre politically and agnostic on religion. He doesn't think there are gods (at least...I mean maybe I dont know now that I write this) he thinks that they are stories meant to convey real events. That its all metaphors, jesus is the aurora of the planet, god is the sun, gods wife is the second sun. The constellations and planets being related as gods was just a way to tell a story of an event that ancient people didn't fully understand.
So he is trying to say the story is relating some kind of truth but there is no spiritual aspect, no supernatural god, just natural events that were related through supernatural metaphors, or something. It gets really muddy because I think he does personally have some spiritual beliefs he just doesn't believe in God or at least any religions version of God.
I wont speculate further because I haven't watched passed a certain point and its possible since then he literally started being a theist and I don't know it.

The Latin spelling of "Nero Caesar" transliterated into Ktiv haser Hebrew, נרו קסר, produces the number 616. Thus 666 is probally a coded reference to Nero, who was the Roman emperor from 55 to 68 AD.

It's not a wild claim, as the sky has turned red before, including during another solar storm in the 1770s over eastern Asia. But I cannot find any pictures other than this one and the only mention of a red sky I can find is someone talking about a red eastern sky making the water look like blood in some part. The closest I've found is an idea that some of the auroras, which happened in places that typically don't see them, were red.
Then again, it was a quick search and doesn't actually cause a problem for his points. (There are plenty of those.) But he might have gotten a little overdramatic (might???).

The way Greg talks, it sounds to me like a drug psychosis. I've had my brush with it too. It's not fun, especially when you factor in social isolation. Fortunately I quit before it messed me up for good. However I have met other people who were way past that hill.

I don't know how Greg found out about this stuff, but I highly doubt he came up with any of it on his own. Apparently Andrew Collins' books "Gobekli Tepe: Genesis of the Gods: The Temple of the Watchers and the Discovery of Eden", "Denisovan Origins: Hybrid Humans, Göbekli Tepe, and the Genesis of the Giants of Ancient America", and "From the Ashes of Angels: The Forbidden Legacy of a Fallen Race" cover almost everything he mentions. Maybe he read those and took them seriously? I'm sadly curious how far down this crazy hole he goes.

Also, quick question A.S., what’s your explanation for the Island people whose entire language consists of whistling or the existence of human languages that are physically impossible to learn if you don’t start learning them as a baby because we lose the ability to make the some of the phonemes unless we regularly use them from an early age?

that earth magnetic field thing is the most infuriating thing he said so far. probably(definitely) because I'm a space nerd since I was a kid and know that is typical behavior of the magnetic field.
solar flares are incredibly irregular in intensity and when they happen and *yes* they do push the magnetic field out like this. stars do that with all planets that have a magnetic core. even with a star as steady as ours, of course the magnetic field would act like this.
compared to the magnetic field orbiting a flare star, this is a steady kind of magnetic field waving.
and just as a sidenote. there is potential that we're in a weak magnetic field phase, but same as how fast the earth rotates. which is currently on the slower end. these things change and shift like our north and south poles do(they even flip completely on a regular base)
sorry not sorry for nerding out like this, but I just had to. it's so easy to find any of this information as well

1:10:00 lol in 1908 there weren't even 1.6B people alive, compared to almost 7B in 2010 + massively larger and denser populated cities in earthquake-prone areas, like Jakarta which has 34M people. A jump from 78k deaths to 390k is pretty easy to explain without evoking some almost-supernatural "there's something pulling the planet apart" crap. Not to mention he cherry-picked 2010 as most of the deaths that year happened during one event that impact Port-au-Prince, Haiti. An incredibly impoverished city of 2.1m (in 2010) with the worst infrastructure possible to deal with earthquake and tsunami events. Go look up pics and you'll know what I mean.
A 5-second google search was able to show that earthquake activity has not been increasing. I picked that specifically to use as an example of how easily debunkable everything Greg says is. It's sad. Your vids on him have been entertaining though, ha
