      Maybe don’t take the right and wrong position with health professionals even your daughter. Try the educated and not yet educated position. You have had the benefit of concentrated health knowledge and research. RNs are required to learn the set education by the governing body to pass exams and promote that as health. It’s only those of us with a continued interest in health that can deviate from our book learned knowledge using the latest research. Keep an open mind to sharing what you know, how your choices change your health status and you will win her over with your expertise instead of alienating her. She probably is just worried and needs reassured.

      I had a discussion with a hospital dietician by phone last week. He asked what meals my wife had eaten in the last week. • @KenJackson_US
      @KenJackson_US Год назад +2

      Yes, that's an excellent recipe. But it's not _"so simple"_ for a lot of people. It takes discipline. I for one, find the siren call of popcorn to be so irresistible that the 30g of carbs in the batch I pop seems totally insignificant when I'm under it's spell.

    • @KenJackson_US
      @KenJackson_US Год назад

      But isn't it interesting? I pop it in coconut oil, drizzle melted butter on it and heavily salt it. You and I probably agree that the oil, butter and salt are healthy but the carbs in the popcorn are unhealthy. Whereas the prevailing paradigm in the medical/nutrition space says the popcorn is harmless but the oil, butter and salt are harmful. Everything is backwards, almost like spiritual warfare.

      my blood ketones are back up 6 hours after a higher carb meal like a hamburger with fries. it boils down to how fast you expend the carbs and the liver runs out of glycogen and ramps up ketone production. it’s not like its keeping score where it will decide to go into ketosis at below 50 grams intake and with the 51st gram says ‘oh now it’s not gonna happen’. I back-slid on the carnivore diet as dropped to 48kg I couldnt afford to lose more weight. I have an appointment with Dr Paul Mason next year. ketosis and ketoacidosis are not the same thing. Unlike ketosis, which is generally safe, ketoacidosis is a grave and life-threatening condition. Also known as diabetic ketoacidosis, it occurs in people living with Type 1 diabetes when their insulin levels become too low People who I.F. become more insulin-sensitive meaning they need less for same result. Fasting heals D2

    I think it's a good question about whether carb cycling is dangerous. What I also wonder is whether it is any more dangerous than just binge eating on high carb foods (whether processed or not). I suspect not if the damage occurs only when the sugars and insulin is high, even if it's not as ideal as a more "uninterrupted pure" high fat / mod protein / very low carb diet (although do we have evidence for this long term yet?). If someone does not have the complete discipline or will power to say goodbye to all the "white carbs" forever, one would hope that the occasional revisiting of higher carb eating, while possibly detrimental in some ways, would not be as detrimental as just eating high amounts of processed carbs including all the rubbish sweet things on a daily basis. But it might be preferable to aim for sticking to smaller servings of your high carb vegetables, fruits and grains (half a cup of cooked rice rather than a whole cup, or half a banana at a time) and add it to whatever the meal is with some protein and fat, but then also remember to take away some of the higher fats you have become accustomed to eating on the ketogenic type diets. I say "diets" because in reality, I imagine it may not even be a majority who eat "keto" yet maintain ketosis. I suspect a lot of us are in ketosis a lot less than we realise. And it's very easy to overeat and over-fuel the body with both fuels when you carb cycle. I often wonder if the Lean Mass Hyper Responder (Dave Feldman: Cholesterol Code) who is not truly lean of mass is really someone who is doing just this - overeating on the fats still while carb cycling. I fall into the Lean Mass Hyper Responder category based solely on my lipid numbers while my BMI may be higher than the typical LMHR. I also recently watched my cholesterol change. About 7 years ago, before I was doing any kind of diet, I was eating plenty of sweets, but tried to eat lower carb breakfasts and dinners by skipping or lowering the portions of carbs that typically accompany a meal, and I was still eating fats, although I would say I was never in ketosis at that time. I had just had a baby and was breastfeeding (overweight I'm sure - about 10kg more than I am now since going low carb) when my cholesterol total came back at around 7.5 mmol, Trigs 0.9 mmol, HDL 3.1 mmol, LDL 4 mmol; Non-HDL 4.4 mmol. That was when I was eating pretty much whatever I liked really but it may have sometimes included slightly lower carb for breakfast and dinner because I was always snacking on pastries and cakes. But I think I was eating all the stuff through the pregnancies when I could keep it down that is... In the pregnancy before that cholesterol reading I had preeclampsia, and in the pregnancy after I had gestational diabetes. Then I tried "keto". Some days stricter than others. My cholesterol was around 8 mmol or a bit over not long after I started the diet, then I reintroduced a few carbs and fiber and brought my total cholesterol back to 6.4 mmol in June 2022 with Trigs 0.6, HDL 1.90, LDL 4.2, Non-HDL 4.5 mmol. Then I watched it climb again to 8.6 mmol in Sep (no other break up, just a random non-fasting) and I'd gone back to lower carb higher fat I think), but then over Christmas to Easter, I ate more carbs again then before, including naughty ones, except for a couple of weeks in January where I pulled off the carbs to do a butter experiment for about 2 weeks (Dr Sarah Bright / Steak & Butter Girl). Check your gallbladder before trying that by the way! Anyway, in March, my TC hit 11 mmol, Trigs 0.6, HDL 2.56, LDL 8.2, Non-HDL 8.44 mmol. That was with some more carbs and still a lot of fat over that time. I then had a number of other tests done, including fasting insulin, which came back at 3 mU/L (3 - 15). My previous fasting insulin after having been gestationally diabetic but having done keto for a few months was 6 mU/L. I also did a lipid subfraction test in May 2023 and the only thing I changed between March and May was to eat a little bit of flaxseed and carob chocolate on a regular basis. I didn't want to change too much before having the subfractions done. Results were TC 11.28 mmol, Trigs 0.6, VLDL 1.48, HDL 2.83, total LDL 6.97 mmol Subfractions: LDL (1) 3.08 mmol, LDL (2) 1.99 mmol (now Small Dense LDL) LDL (3) 0.27 mmol, and the smaller LDL subfractions from size 4 to 7 none detected. Comments on the report says Type A carries no additional risk of an adverse cardiac event. My previous Lipid subfraction which I had done 4 years earlier when my total cholesterol was 8.43 mmol showed slightly more Small Dense LDL: LDL(3) 0.31, LDL (4) 0.05. and the smaller sizes were not detected then. But this recent one showed just slightly less small dense LDL. A CAC scan I had done in 2021 confirmed about 1% build up in one artery (I guess from a life time of having a sweet tooth! ) Anyway, these are the results of someone now 48 years old with previous metabolic disorder. Not really sure what it means in the scheme of low carbing, which I still believe in as a way of eating, but it might be relevant to know for the LMHR community that someone with a similar cholesterol reading and apparent low risk of cardiovascular disease according to the tool available on Dave Feldman's website, had had preeclampsia a couple of years earlier in a pregnancy, and then went on to have gestational diabetes in another pregnancy. I never had my fasting insulin checked until after I had gestational diabetes, but I must have been insulin resistant at the time I had that first cholesterol reading done. Now I am possibly in perimenopause and wondering if this way of eating is still going to be optimal. I am not free of hormonal - related symptoms and would love to know if anyone has had relief from menopause symptoms going carnivore!

    Our diet, not surprisingly, affects our whole body, including ingesting toxins. Reducing toxins and unnecessary medications has only positive effects. Sadly most of our food contains toxins, which over time destroys our health then the medical profession gets onboard and prescribes more toxins to battle the effects and never the causes.
    One meal, quality food, a day is all we need.
    Been on Keto for nearly 3 years now, yes, quality food is more expensive, but, if your only eating 7 meals a week then it doesn’t take much to work out it’s actually a lot cheaper. Everyone I come in conversation with about diet, nearly always relies upon information from their doctor or nutritionists, including Diabetes UK are all being fed false information. Very sad indeed.
