When my brother died (many years after his service) there were several men that got out of their vehicles and saluted. Some construction workers stopped and placed their hands over their hearts as we passed. The Patriot Guard on motorcycles with flags led the procession. It's been a few years but I'm crying as I type this. I hope my brother could see the respect and I thank those that gave it.
My dad is 75 year old Army Vet and has balance issues, but for my wife’s grandfathers funeral whom was also a veteran, he let go of the tree he was holding and saluted for him.. First time I’ve ever seen him salute.. It was awesome.
I met a marine yesterday in Baltimore that just flew in from Afghanistan and all I did was say "welcome home" and he lit up and said "thank you honey most people dont notice me". He said I made his day, little did he know it made mine. We have to stop and think and spread the love and gratitude! It really goes a long way!
those two words can mean so much. A friend once told me about a vietnam veteran they worked with, who in all these years...never once heard them said to him. So when she said "welcome home" to him, he broke down in tears. we all have it in us, to change the world around us...even if only in little ways that brighten the day of some old vet you barely met.
Lost a good friend in Afghanistan, the day of his funeral the whole town shut down and everyone lined the route from the funeral home to the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. It was beautiful! Miss you everyday Devin!
You mean your friend invaded another country for money and then they were surprised when they died? If Afghans invaded here would you be surprised if they died? If you're actually surprised and saddened by that then you're incredibly unintelligent
That wasn’t just a good deed. That was a moment of respect to honor a fallen soldier. Much respect to Kenneth for giving honor where honor is due, without considering the inconvenience and uncomfortable weather conditions.
When my vet uncle passed away i saw Speical Forces guys cry an i realized what brotherhood was. I had a navy seal hug me sobbing he couldnt talk an it made me realize how much they love people. This vet is better than most people out there.
ive done this , not in the pouring rain, but was on a trip to Myrtle beach, not far into SC somewhere around 07 maybe 08, 2 lane road. got back in the car, wife says " you seriously did that, why am I not surprised?" I said, "Yup, cause thats how we roll" and drove on to the beach.
When my father passed away, the love and respect shown by the Army was heartwarming. Even though he served in Nam and all these guys probably weren’t even alive, they still treated him like one of their own. So did the fire department, as he was also a firefighter for 30 years. As we drove by the station the entire FD stood outside and showed him respect for his send off. It was hard not to tear up. R.I.P. dad, the best man I ever knew and a big thank you to both the US Army personnel and the fire department for showing him respect and still treating him as one of them.
Once a Soldier, Always a Soldier…A Soldier for Life! Thank you for your Service and thanks to my only Child a daughter still serving our Marine Corps... God Bless you all....
My Dad died in 2018. I think of him and miss him everyday. When he passed he was 89, and lived in Florida. Many of his family and friends lived far and were seniors. Making that trip was too hard. There were maybe 25 people at his funeral. Dad had a military funeral. Going from the funeral home to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, people pulled over, took off their hats and put their hands on their hearts. I do not know any of them. Yet they made a moment that I will never forget. My Dad was humble and kind. He deserved that respect and I was so touched that strangers gave it to him
I'm 3 years late to see this, I've never had the honor of serving, but I've had lots of family and friends as country men. I also haven't cried like this in awhile. Good man. Plain and simple. Very good and proud man.

It's energizing to see others who truly and deeply respect and appreciate what our heroic men and women of the military do for this country. It's sad to see individuals that aren't happy or proud to be an American in today's world.
God bless you and all our armed forces. So few do so much for the rest of us. I can never thank you enough and those who have fallen for the sacrifices you make but I am honored by your presence in a country that has seemingly forgotten about it's military forces.
When I grew up in in my small town of 30,000 in the 50's, it was traditional and well observed for all vehicles to pull over and stop, while a funeral procession went by.
Good on you brother. You clearly conduct yourself in adherence with the highest honors bestowed to a military member. You choose to hold yourself to a higher standard, and it shows.
When my grandmother past away everyone drove from the church to the grave and on the way a may seen it stepped outside and saluted to show his respects I don't know the guy but that was very generous of him
My son age 28 hauls wide loads and when he or his drivers see a service of a fallen man, he pulls off and gets on his cb to let other drivers know. It is an honor to see the truckers stop and wait.
Thanks to them and their families for their services to our country. I'm forever grateful for your sacrifices. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families.
