- The soldier was captured standing in the rain saluting a funeral procession for someone he had never met, while his message is for people to slow down and help others.
1:38 "Every single day, were all given opportunities, if we just slow down and just help somebody." This dude has my respect already👍
Douglas Gomez seriously tho, how is standing in the road stopping traffic i mught add, helping anybody? i dont understand this "news"
If you don't understand the act, then one can only conclude you are lacking in empathy and maybe moral ethics. I suppose it's all down to how you've been brought up and Whether you've the ability to show some respect for another human being.
P.S
Or you are just being a Troll, in which case, you lack everything!
alex wintermeyer ... Ask anyone who has ever felt better, even for a moment, because of a word or gesture from another (i.e., 'helping')
Sadly, this is news because this kind of thing, while quite common in the past, has become incredibly rare. And also because it might teach just one person how signs of respect can be uplifting.
Kenyy Allford respect to you all from the bottom of my heart, never allowed to serve but you are the true heroes of this nation not some overpaid primadona athlete
alex wintermeyer traffic was already stopped it's a sign of respect when you pull over for a funeral procession anyway but to get out and salute in the rain speaks volumes. I'm sure you knew this already "troll"
I remember when my nephew died in 1993. During his funeral procession, a crew of construction workers stopped working, took off their hard hats in a show of respect. It's 2021 and that memory will live with me forever. A small sign of respect goes a long way. It's appreciated so much.
Same thing happened when my daddy died in 1991. Construction workers stopped, took off hard hats and waited as procession went by. It was so touching!
Where are those men today? We need them.
@@sheilajohnson3427 same. for my father . I've never forgotten their mark of respect .
That's how I know it.. You respect a funeral even when you don't know the person who died.
I live in the uk I always take off my hat when a funeral car goes by I hope it helped one of them families like it did you cost nothing to show respect my mum did a good job
Imagine a society in which everybody treats everyone with this much respect. Would be heaven on earth
Yeah it would! But the world just ain't there yet and sadly never will be.
@@noodlelover_8 The world tries to attain this level of respect but sadly a few scumbags always break the chain.
I wish there could be a reward-based incentive to recognize people like this every week then more ppl will see it as a good thing even without winning a prize.
Only carrots can cure social cruelty, not sticks in my opinion.
I wish it could be this simple bother. If people only saw we are all human.
A society like that, can't be divided easily. That's exactly what Demon-Rats don't want
Not while our bodies are governed by fight or flight!
Real proof that Ranking doesn’t matter - a Colonel showing respect. I salute you, Sir.
I think Ranking does matter, great leaders lead by good example!
i respect people who serve in the amy in USA & Canada that die for our county & like this man as will......
but i dont respect the fake who play dress up those clowns 2 middle fingers & get told off & sued... not sure if anyone agree the same thing
That's a good example to set as a leader.
When I was young, it was quite normal for anyone to stand still, stop a car, salute, a funeral procession.
It is all gone, this decency.
Colonel, I salute you!
This country has gone in the trash, we have lost all respect, accountability, and common sense. It sucks to see.

That's sympathy personified. To have a funeral on a rainy day just adds to the grief. This soldier has a deep understanding of humanity.
No salute for the millions of civilians killed by US forces in Iraq ,Afghanistan, Somalia,Yemen, Syria, etc. Bush dropped 70.000 bombs in 8 years, Obama dropped 100.000 bombs in 8 years and Trump dropped 40.000 bombs in his first year. Warcriminals.... If you have respect for your dead soldiers you would stop joining illegal wars for oil , gas, lithium, and for the Federal Reserve and military industrial complex.
My uncle died over 20 years ago. To this day I remember seeing a construction worker gentleman who removed his hat and stopped what he was doing out of respect for the procession. I can’t remember much else about that day, but I will never forget the impact that simple gesture had on me. God bless him.
kinda took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. Col. Usrey is the epitome of respect and dignity.

I may not be a US citizen but only a stranger I just want to say to all of the soldiers in the Unites States of America who are retired, just came back from specific missions, and on a far distant or remote areas trying to make the world a better place to live in
thank you for your service.
Your welcome. Retired Air Force 1972-1992.
Thank you Colonel Usrey!!
The respect, dignity & gratitude & plain old decency of bygone generations. This respect was strongest on our WWII veterans generations. Look at the numbers of those veterans who continue to pay their respects at War Memorials to the day they die. And come back to have their ashes scattered with their brothers in uniforms. Evidence is at the Pearl Harbor memorial. Each year the numbers of remaining veterans goes down. But the families still return in respect to the fallen. It is the greatest generation of Americans to date. We the children of these WWI, & WW11 veterans, baby boomers and all were taught the respect and traditions. The traditions seem to have faded as the 1990's moved forward. Lots of the younger generations born after the late 1980's to 1990's have lost the values, respect that were ingrained into the spirit & souls of Americans! Proud Americans.... Save the heart & soul of our America!! 🙏🙏✌✌👏👏
Trying to make the world a better place lmao
"Slow down and help somebody." Couldn't agree with you more.
Especially in America!
It's a simple but most humane way of a fellow American showing others a dignified way of living in America. God bless you Mr. Colonel and many thanks for your sacrifices and services.
Salute from a fellow Veteran - “Every single day, we’re all given opportunities, if we just slow down and just help somebody”. Very, very powerful statement.
This happened at my grandpa's funeral procession as well. My sister and I were driving in it, and multiple people on the sidewalk stopped, doffed their hats, stood at attention and saluted when they saw it was the burial of a vet (flags on the hearse gave it away). My sister and I burst into tears and had a hard time seeing to drive for the rest of the ride.
I'm saluting you Colonel. Showing and sharing respect for each other is a wonderful gift that costs nothing and is literally priceless.
Failed my driving test a few years ago because I refused to overtake a funeral procession....

But you won my heart buddy ❤️

I'm SO proud of our veterans! We are blessed to have such courageous men and women defending our freedom every day.

Now days people cut off a funeral session. Thank you for your service and reminding me how to be a great human being 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

He deserves my highest respect and honour. Amen

I get it *Rain* makes it 100 times more miserable for the grieving family.. What a nice man this soldier is
Such a simple thing, requiring no effort, but meaning so much. An awesome American!
GOD keep and bless this man and what he stands for.
Beautiful story and advice to slow down and recognize those opportunities to lift others up! Great job Colonel! Would have been proud to have served under you or someone just like you 😊

Exactly, every single day is an opportunity to help somebody. Salute to you Sir!
Been going to Sunday services since I was four but this man's suggestion to take time to help our fellow travelers is exactly what I needed to hear. Sins of omissions have been my worst trait, maybe now I'll be aware to be a nicer person.

As a son of a Vietnam Veteran, I will always be proud of our military and have the utmost respect for those who serve. Thank you all for your service.
The fact that something like this stands out nowadays is pretty sad. Growing up it was normal that everyone stopped and pulled over when a funeral procession was going by. Nobody, and I mean nobody, interfered with one out of respect for those who lost a loved one.
Are you living under a rock? People still do that. People never stood out in the rain saluting them.
Crypto Database that’s not it all what happened in the video. Somebody pulled over and got out of their car and saluted in the pouring rain lol what are you talking about? There’s plenty of stuff people do nowadays that are good that people didn’t do 50 years ago. But we don’t discriminate against black people anymore that is not always happen. So don’t say something stupid watch the video then don’t pretend like people now or worse than people 3040 or 50 years ago because that’s not the case.
Giving your life for your country is a great honor, God bless to all soldiers.
Those eyes that can see through you and yet humbly saying what he'd done is a simple way to give respect...

What wonderful words and a truly inspiring and memorable gesture. Such a hero!
And it was a Colonel who salutes. Huge respect to this man
This soldier deserves to be recognized in some way
Here in the UK, if I ever see a procession passing by, I stop and pay respects. Also, when my Grandmother died, her street knew about it, and neighbours and friends paid respects as we drove by.
Nothing feels greater than helping someone who's in need! It's the very meaning of life, it's the most humane. It cleans your heart and soul, it restores peace to your heart and mind, and rises u up respectively in the eyes of God!
This man's simple act of kindness and empathy demonstrates the truest most genuine strength of our society. Let us take his example as an aspiration for how to conduct our own lives.

Now THAT is a good Colonel right there. Giving his men something to respect and follow.
1:34 thank you for the message sir. definitely something to live by.
This guy is awesome. And, by "awesome", I mean I am in awe of his commitment, respect, dedication and actual concern and interest in his fellow people. If only people would spend 10 minutes a day to help a Vet, an elderly person or give a kid some wisdom, the US might be a bit different. The best Xmas I ever had was helping a family, with a disabled child, change a flat tire in an ice storm. It doesn't take a lot to mean the world to someone, and the recent "deal" with the NFL is a joke. The only reason those GED idiots can make millions playing a high school game, "protesting" and kneeling is due to a man like the guy in this clip.
What a wonderful soldier thats the most bravest, kindness & compassion thing you can do to another human being.
The Colonel has the sweetest face. His family is so lucky to have him. What good man!

Why can't news outlets have more stories like this and less bs ...
Claudio Benjamin Osorio it’s not “shock” enough for mainstream media.. it’s sad cause most (not all) of these stories I see are certainly from local news stations. Totally agree with you tho. Hopefully we start to move away from violence and drama and towards wholesome news like this.

I'm a long retired Major of the Australian Army. Many years ago I was driving my old steel boat through Fremantle Harbour in Western Australia. I was about 50M away from a large US Navy ship tied up. There was a sailor doing some work on an upper railing near the stern where a large US flag was flying. As I went by, even at that distance our eyes locked. I spontaneously saluted the vessel and the flag. (I had previously been attached to the US 82nd and 101st Airborne in the Mid East as a Liaison Officer for the Multi-National Force and Observers.) The sailor then stood to attention and returned my salute. I'll never forget that moment. Australians and Americans...brothers in arms over so many years, through so many conflicts and peacekeeping missions: WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sinai in Egypt....Cheers.
thank you for your service sir you're a true American
and a dickhead just like you all
As a police officer in he UK we were instructed that whilst on duty and in full uniform if a hearse was to pass we would also stand at the kerbside turn and salute that hearse whilst it passed. as a mark of respect. That was as a mark of respect for a member of the society that I was sworn in to protect. My society, my public, home town. I don't see that anymore but then I don't see uniformed officers patrolling the streets. do you.
I am now retired but if a hearse is passing to a funeral I still stop and bow my head and if wearing a hat I remove it as a mark of respect to the deceased and their family.
Blessings !!!’ Remembering that the smallest act of kindness could make the biggest difference in
yes. god bless him. world would be nice if more of these kindness happens
I absolutely love him, he didn't know the family, the friends, the Deciesed person, and he still had the respect and love to get out and show support and respect, what an amazing human being, if only everyone could show love like this and not hate💯💪❤

We need many more people like the soldier in this video.
Growing up in Mississippi this was the norm for us. No matter if we were walking or in a car, we would stop, pull over and give reverence to the family.
Seeing this man do this gives me hope that our humanity is not lost. Bless his heart and life always.
