A losing record in the finals and that 2011 finals being probably the worst performance by a top 25 player in a final in the history of the game is just too big a stain on his legacy . There are role players that haven't had that bad a performance in the finals. And that longevity we keep talking about, he has averaged a little over 50 games a season since he was 35 and made it into the top 6 in the west twice, the rest is via the play ins,an idea which he criticised initially. It's still a top 5 career, though.

I would take Larry Bird for one game in his Prime in 84 , before the injuries, talk about hard fouls , every team was hitting his back , playing dirty especially Sixers , Larry hit you back in the nose, a animal!!!!And a side note Jordan was practicing for a good 8 weeks before his comeback, he was playing pickup with the Bulls , I remember I was a 80s child , Larry was feared more than any player in NBA History!!!Look at the Hall of Famers he had to go against in The Lakers Prime , never took a bad shot , would beat with the pass with doubles , his FG. Percentage off the charts in big games , and I saw him hit a free throw in 84 finals after the crown invaded the Parkade floor in the garden in Game 7 , I’ve never seen Bird collapse under pressure in the final moments of games , just mentally better than anyone that ever played the game, a soul Snatcher Bird!!!!

Peak MJ was something I have never seen before anywhere from anyone since. There are players who can have moments or stretches where they are MJ like, but MJ was unique. Lebron is unique also but in a different way…he is unique athletically of course but his consistency from just a math perspective was what stands out to me, but there’s nothing from a pure skill/fundamentals standpoint that jumps off the page the way MJ’s does. And then there is a significant gap in terms of the level of competitiveness that the two players played with. MJ played angry with a kill you mentality, and Lebron didn’t have any of that until well after 2012 and it was never a kill you mentality…it was more of a I’m better than you and I know it. And that’s one of the reasons MJ was more fun to watch. I always believed MJ maximized everything but Lebron in my opinion should have been a better rebounder especially offensive rebounder than he was considering his athletic prowess. Lebron should have been Karl Malone mixed with Zion Williamson on the glass…the fundamental animal mentality of Malone and the quick 2nd jump/burst of Zion off the ground.

i *NEVER* understood this "LeBron has the greatest career". How? How does LeBron have the greatest career when Jordan has greater accolades? Having the most total numbers isn't the greatest career. The goal of the game is to win. A career is "great" on how successful you were. Success is winning. Not how much numbers you can accumulate. John Stockton did not have a greater career than Magic Johnson. Why? Cause WINNING is what matters, not how much numbers John Stockton accumulated. Jordan beats LeBron in overall per game statistics, every analytical metric, and accolades. Lebron does NOT have a greater career than Jordan.

    6x titles
    6x finals mvp
    5x mvp
    10x all NBA first team
    9x all defense first team
    1x DPOY
    10x scoring titles
    3x steals titles
    14x all star
    3x all star mvp
    2x slam dunk champ
    1x rookie of the year
Oh, and 2x gold medal winner, no bronze
In every facet, LeBron has failed with and without stacked teams.
    In the NBA and internationally.
LeBron has the all time points lead, and really what else?
Jordan still has the highest career averages in impact in the per game advanced metrics like bpm, per, ws/48, etc whereas LeBron and Kareem Duke it out over the longevity metrics like vorp and total win shares.
Seriously, finally, the question is would you rather have Jordan's career or LeBron's career, and I think it's safe to say the vast majority would choose Jordan.

A career is measured in ACCOMPLISHMENTS and ACCOLADES, not in things like total accrued stats as that's a result of longevity.
So MJ also had the better career.
There is a dicreptancy between MJ and Lebron of a player ranked 8-15 in the all time rankings
    2 Championships
    2 Finals MVP
    1 MVP
    9 Scoring Titles
    1 DPOY
This is a similar difference between players like Larry Bird & Karl Malone (in favour of Bird)
    3 Championships
    2 Finals MVP
    1 MVP
While both Lebron and Malone have longevity in their favour over the other player with total accrued stats, all NBA and all star selections.
Nobody argues Malone is higher all time or had a better career because of longevity than Larry Bird.

  • @MH-us9pf

Sure you can argue it. Jordan has the most total accolades of any player in history. Lebron has longevity. Who plays for longevity? The rings ship sailed, so he's piling up stats.

The only thing that Lebron has on Mike is the records that comes with longevity. I am not buying because he is the all time scoring leader makes him the GOAT. Because when Kareem was the all time scoring leader MJ was still consider the goat. Michael Jordan achievements:
    Scored 20+ points in 1,106 games (926 regular season, 173 postseason, 7 All-Star)
Scored 30+ points in 673 games [NBA record] (1st all time) (562 regular season, 109 postseason, 2 All-Star)

    Recorded 241 Double-doubles (201 regular season, 39 postseason, 1 All-Star)
    11-time regular season leader, total points (1985, '87-'93, '96-'98)

I don’t think Lebron even has the greatest career. His accomplishments and the stats are mostly contributed to longevity. Even with his longevity he falls short in several per game, per etc categories against other greats. Not to mention too many of his team accomplishments have come only when he creates “super teams” and lop-sides the competition more in his favor than not in his favor. LeBron’s maybe Top 10 if you’re being objective to his actual skill, clutch abilities, FT shooting, ball handling / lack of turnovers, mid range game, defense, etc. Not sure why the media is afraid to tell the truth.

If you are drafting a player you draft Kareem or Lebron period. You get 20 years of an NBA Top 5 player, 4 championships, 4 league MVPs, 10 finals appearances, and most points in NBA history plus no player that Lebron has not beaten in his era OR you get 6 championships, 6 league MVPs, 10 finals appearances, and most points in NBA history for 40 years before Lebron broke the record and no player that Kareem didn’t beat in his era. MJ you get brilliance of 6 FMVPS, 5 league MVPs and 6 finals appearances but never could beat Bird and the Celtics. How can you have the greatest player ever born but yet he can’t beat mere mortals. Lebron beat the Celtics team emquivalent, the KD Warriors team.

    Jordan on Offense
30.1ppg for his career, most in NBA history
33.4ppg career playoffs average, most in NBA history
33.6ppg in 6 Finals appearances, most in NBA history
41.0ppg in a Finals series, most in NBA history
10 Scoring titles, most in NBA history
10 seasons with 2,000+ points, most in NBA history
    Jordan with Analytics
PER (Player Efficiency Rating): Highest in history for both the regular season (27.91) and the playoffs. (28.6)
Win Shares per 48 (WS/48): Highest in history for both the regular season (.2505) and the playoffs (.2553)
Box plus Minus: Highest in history for both the regular season (9.22) and the playoffs (11.14)
VORP per Game: Highest in history for both the regular season (.1083) and the playoffs(.1382)
    Jordan on Defense
He was the first player in history to be selected to 9 All Defensive First teams.
He was the first player in history to get 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season, it has still only been done by 3 players. (Michael did it twice).
He was the steals leader 3 times.
He's the only guard in history, relative to his position, both in the Top 5 for blocks and Top 5 for steals.
He was the defensive Player of the Year and Scoring Champion in the same year, the only player in history to accomplish this.
His 131 blocks for the 1988 season is still the most blocks in a season by a guard in NBA history.
When Jordan was old and came back for the Wizards, he set records too!
Jordan is the oldest player in NBA history to score over 50 points in a game when he scored 51 vs Charlotte at 38 years and 315 days old.
MJ is also the only player in NBA history to score over 40 points at age 40, and he did it twice!
Jordan recorded more 30 point per game plus seasons than any player ever with eight, and his seven consecutively is also a record (tied with Wilt).
Jordan holds the all-time record for the most blocked shots ever by a guard with 893! His 131 blocks in a single 82 game season is the most ever recorded by a guard! Jordan also became the first player ever (only Olajuwon and Pippen also did it later) with 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season, and he did it twice-1988 and 1989.
Jordan is the player with the most combinations of scoring titles and All-Defensive First team honors with nine! He's also the ONLY player to win the scoring title and the Defensive Player of the Year award in the same season. His 35.0 scoring average is the highest for any DPOY winner! Jordan won the NBA championship and the scoring title in the same season SIX times (Jabbar did it once), most by any player, and his 32.6 scoring average is the highest for any player in a championship season.
Jordan is the only perimeter player in NBA history to average 30 points in a single season while shooting 50.0 percent from the field! and he did FIVE times! Jordan had a streak of 632 games without losing three straight games, most by any player! Jordan's combination of 10 scoring titles, five league MVPs, six Finals MVPs, 10 All-NBA First team honors and nine All-Defensive First team honor will NEVER be matched.
people should Understand that MJ THE G.O.A.T. WAS 35 Years old in 1998, he wins Regular Season MVP, a Chap. and Final MVP. scoring title. and all-star MVP…
after Lebron finish they with trying to find another player and call him the next MJ. just like they did to Code. people should start getting used to this.
