Jordan began his professional basketball career when he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1984. He was the third overall pick, behind Hakeem Olajuwon, who was selected first by the Houston Rockets, and Sam Bowie, taken by the Portland Trail Blazers; the draft also featured legendary players John Stockton and Charles Barkley. Jordan soon proved himself on the court. He helped the team make the playoffs and scored an average of 28.2 points per game that season. For his efforts, Jordan received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and was selected for the All-Star Game.
While his second season was marred by injury, he was breaking new ground on the court during the 1986-87 season. He became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to score more than 3,000 points in a single season.
By the late 1980s, the Chicago Bulls were quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with, and Jordan was an instrumental part of the team's success.
The Bulls made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1990 and won their first NBA championship the following year by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. Jordan was well known by then for his superior athleticism on the court and for his leadership abilities.
In 1992, the Chicago Bulls beat the Portland Trail Blazers to win their second NBA championship. The team took their third championship the following year, dominating in the basketball world.
Following a short stint in minor league baseball, in March 1995 Jordan returned to the basketball court for the Chicago Bulls. He came back even stronger the following year, averaging 30.4 points per game to lead the Bulls to a then-record 72 regular-season wins before they defeated the Seattle SuperSonics for the NBA championship.
Chicago nearly matched the previous year's record with 69 wins in 1996-97, a season that ended with a game six win over the Utah Jazz in the NBA Finals. The two teams faced each other again for the championship in 1998, with Jordan sinking the winning shot in Game 6 to claim his sixth NBA title.
Washington Wizards
After his second retirement from basketball in 1999, Jordan joined the Washington Wizards in 2000 as a part owner and as president of basketball operations.
In the fall of 2001, Jordan relinquished these roles to return to the court once more. He played for the Wizards for two seasons before retiring for good in 2003.

MJ was magical. I find basketball a boring game but I would watch MJ transfixed. He was poetry in motion AND the best.

Also you act like every player in the NBA at the time were all tough guys but you forget that players like Steve Kerr and John Stockton not only survived but also thrived to be one of the best players at their time with the same physique as Steph. Steph will not only dominate but he would have probably won just as many rings as he has now (4)
@@stevena.6760 Steph’s specialty being outside of the paint doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have to go into the paint. Yes people Steph’s size thrived in a league with a punishing paint, and other small players didn’t because they were “Soft.” I don’t see why John Stockton thriving in a league with a physical paint has you convinced that Steph would too. Maybe maybe not. What does Stockton have to do with Steph? Players don’t become big let downs due to softness today, because the whole game is soft.
Steve Kerr shouldn’t even be mentioned alongside Steph or Stockton. Kerr couldn’t beat defenders and drive to the hoop to save his life. Therefore he was a limited specialty player. You have to be a driving threat to “Have” an outside specialty like that of Steph. Hence Steph has to go into the paint fairly regularly to be able to have the outside game that he has.
You young bucks will never understand the greatness of MJ you have your Kobe Bryant‘s and your LeBron James but you didn’t get to see MJ play like we ole schoolers did. Keep in mind MJ played in the era that produced the greatest Hall of Famers ever and dominated them. I can’t even put into words how great this man was
Grew up in Chicago and watched him night after night, there was no safer feeling as a sports fan then when MJ had the ball in his hands.
I didn't grow up in Chicago but i watched every Bulls game i could find. I thank God for cable tv and WGN. Jordan could make a 90's Bulls fan feel so safe that you could hope the other team has a good night and it's a close game going into the 4th quarter. That way it would be more exciting when Jordan takes over. You didn't hope he would dominate, you just expected it but still couldn't wait to see it.
I continue to marvel at all these terrific former NBA stars, swallowing their pride and telling the truth about MJ. Wow, nothing but RESPECT - - class acts, all of them.

I love Lebron’s game. But I’m also a big Jordan fan since I grew up in the 80s and 90s. There is no doubt In my mind Jordan was superior. LbJ is top 5 IMO. But there is a gap between 1 and 2 for sure. And the day Lebron came out and said that the golden state comeback made him the greatest player ever just tell diminished all facts that he is close to Jordan . If you are the greatest, you don’t need to say it. Your peers and your adversaries will say it for you.

That's the thing about MJ. He's the epitome of versatile. He see's Curry and Harden yank up the tre, he would figure out how to guard them within the season, and get better at shooting 3's. Beat them in their own game.
Jordan was and is the epitome of what an NBA player is. He was the most complete player and he was never a one trick pony chucking up 3s.
If individual stats are the basis of judging players, Wilt was the GOAT. If you judge it by winning Russell was the GOAT.

True facts! If MJ wanted to, and he most likely would want to, he'd score as often as possible to make the other team wish they had stayed in bed... Jordan said in an interview that he wanted to instill doubt and fear into the other team so that when they stepped on the court, they would feel like they were already down 10 points.
In 1987, Jordan averaged 40.1ppg in the 40 Chicago wins that years. No one other than Wilt Chamberlain has every averaged 40ppg in their teams wins in a season.
Won't make a difference for jordan. He was never a one trick ponny. He just adjust to the new rules. He builds empire, team captain and carries his teammates that's leadership.
What people forget, is the way the game is reffed today was changed by players like Bird, Jordan and Magic getting absolutely beat up driving into the lane. The badboy Pistons had a set of rules just for Jordan. Personally I think MJ would average over 40 in todays league, just from extra trips to the free throw line....
I remember that, he thought stats were more important that championships! Once he figured that out, he started winning championships.
There are so many NBA greats from the beginning to now and then there's MJ. I just think the guy was made to play basketball. He had the perfect build, the big hands, the athleticism and, probably the number one thing that separates him from all the other greats, he had that mentality. His competitiveness is what really sets him apart.

He changed the paradigm. Bigs were seen as the best and most important part of a championship team ( Mikan, Bill, Kareem, Wilt, Malone). Even when Magic/Bird were the best they still had great big men on their teams. I could somewhat give it to IT and the Pistons but Laimbeer was a hof worthy big man himself. There’s a reason Hakeem and Sam Bowie were picked ahead of Mj, “You needed a great big to win championships” was the idea. Jordan however won 6 with Cartwright and Longley….
That is so true. I was in 6th grade when I started playing. Bird and Magic years ( I hated Bird touching the ball. Now I know why.).
I remember everybody wanting to be a center. It was a big man's game. Jordan is the GOAT because he changed the entire concept of basketball. Basketball went mainstream globally. Players started to become quicker, jumped higher, and got stronger after he started lifting. All positions became more skilled. You really had to be there to understand his impact on every aspect of basketball.
You still do (need a big) the problem is that there are no bigs anymore. MJ was the anomaly. The best 3pt shooters only shoot on avg roughly 44ish%; "good" bigs can generate roughly 60 - 65% from the interior AND they shrink the Defense, i.e. Shaq kicking the ball out to Dennis Scott, or Robinson kicking it out to Vinny Del Negro/Elliot. Can't use MJ as the benchmark bc he did it vs All-Time great Bigs - without having a great big on his team. Peace!

I’m kind of bummed that I’ve already seen all of Jordan’s highlights countless times. I wish I could witness them, for the first time, all over again. Growing up in the 70’s, 80’s, and being an adult in the 90’s was a magical time.
I’m just glad I got to see him play in his prime. It’s like when old timers talked about Ali and Ruth. Jordan is the best I ever saw play.

Couldn’t be said better. The only way LeBron could’ve been #1 is if he’d won his first 7 nba finals matchups and got his first finals MVP. That ship has come and sailed. Jordan will forever be the GOAT.
As a basketball fan . I remember watching MJ play against and destroy my beloved NY KNICKS . I would look in his eyes , it was like he was unearthly . you could see this man was on another level mentally and physically . KNICK fans hated and loved him . He would break our hearts year after year , but we had to respect him .even when we went to the championship game it felt empty because we never beat him . MJ without question is the GOAT . Exactly! Lebron may be "bigger, stronger, and faster" but that doesn't equate to him being a better basketball player. Basketball is a game of fluidity, and Jordan had that in spades.

M.J. didn't have to run around the league trying to form super teams so he could win a chip. Mike stayed...gave loyalty and built his team around him and won six chips doing it! M.J. had 1...1 other player who was an Allstar. M.J. had 1 ....1 other player on his team who averaged double figures and still had 2 three peats!! LeBron wouldn't win 1 under those conditions. I wish I would have appreciated watching Jordan more when I was young and he was an active player. But I always wanted teams to beat the Bulls, because I was always wanting the underdog to win.

I don’t know why No matter how many videos I watch I can’t resist clicking on an MJ related video. Im not even a big basketball fan since the 90’s but grew up watching this greatness!!
I have seen plenty of the highlight clips of Jordan dunking from the baseline, from the corner, behind the net etc. But the one that blows me away is his full extension with one hand to catch that overthrown pass from Pippen along the sideline, and bring it down in one smooth motion to hit the jumper. This is amazing athleticism and body control, and he makes it seem almost effortless. He was known as the black cat because his coordination could shift so easily from smooth and fast to full power in a split second. No one could drive to the basket like Jordan and then in the last split second lay the ball in the hole with a gentle finger roll.

MJ averaged 37 PPG and 35 PPG a season and thats with less than one 3 pointer a game. And those free throws at the line were hard fouls and he still maintained a high shooting percentage. He would be untouchable in today's rules w/out hand checking, and he would have adapted to shooting threes. His first step is quicker than anyone.

People always throw stats around when comparing MJ to LBJ. Rarely does anyone bring up this.....Look at the manor that MJ has dominated....its like something out of a movie. The shot, the shrug game, the comeback, the dream team, the flu game....etc. Being the GOAT isn't just about stats and rings....its in the manor that he achieved success. MJ will never be overtaken for those reasons alone.

Stats can be manipulated ! Best way to access a player is by watching his game. When we go hop at the park there isn’t a data full of numbers. But yet we’re able to identify the best player because we watch & analyze his skills/intangibles…

I’ll use rebounds as an example. It’s a very talked about stats, especially due to triple doubles. Ppl fail to realize that most of these rebounds are uncontested. There was no challenge or battle to get most of those boards. There’s nothing impressive about that. But these stats nerds will count the numbers & think it was impressive when in fact all individual stats don’t share the same significance. If a guy had to fight for 3 key boards vs a guy who got to snag 9 uncontested rebounds, the perception will be the guy with 9 did more. But when u add in the context you’ll know those 3 boards were far more impactful.

Michael Jordan was a ballerina with a basketball in his hand. He was a physiological genus who could move in ways no other basketball player before him or since could match! Even if he had wanted to make 3 point shots a bigger part of his game, he never needed to. No defensive player could ever stop him! He controlled every one-on-one matchup inside every game he played. He was also a brilliant defensive player as well. MJ is and always will be the GOAT. The other contestants are vying for second, which is an amazing accomplishment in itself.

Shooting all those 3s in the playoffs was a way of teaching Clyde a lesson, as in: I can even beat you with the 3 IF I wanted to. So yes he could shoot the 3 if he wanted to, he just didnt care for it. Other than that, he didn't need a 3 to get his 40.
