I do not in any way believe that winning is everything, but i do believe in accomplishment. that can come in many forms, but Jordan was the goat. the only players greater than Jordan were the great duo of Magic and Bird - together. I get that. I think Lebron is a freak athlete and an amazing player. But he falls under the Wilt, Bill, Shaq world. It's not the same when you are as big as half the centers in the league. It's different when a guy that is average height for the NBA at 6'6". It's why if there was a conversation of the 2010-2020 goats its Steph Curry. It's different when you can inspire the average person compared to just being bigger than just about everyone else.

Kobe was different...i would say second to no one but Mike, but when you watch all those who spoke about MJ...they all seem sincere, not because they loved Mike, pretty sure most of them hated him to their guts, but because of love of the game and that no matter what they were big enough to admire the game and acknowledge one's greatness. And a couple of days ago i watched the first minutes of Lebron/Reddick show and i simply could not stand it - just called it a clown show as it was all scripted and a clown show as i saw a media pumped guy with a great losing record disrespect MJ's influence while wearing his number...that's pathetic and shows no knowledge of the game and its history no respect to the ones that paved your way to a billionaire status...

I was in the Air Force for 22 years and am from Chicago. In 1992 I was stationed at McDill AFB in Florida and the Bulls were playing a preseason game in St. Petersburg with the Washington Bullets. After the game we went to a local club called the Green Iguana and after an hour, the bouncers came and roped off our area. The Bullets and Bulls showed up and were in our section. I got to meet all of them including MJ. We talked for a few minutes and he was more interested in my military service and recently coming home from the Gulf War. No one had a camera, but the memory is still bright in my mind. He was a real nice guy, to me.

Frankly, it's insulting to MJ that people say LeBron is at his level, much less passed him. There is MJ, and then there is a fight for second place. Kobe is the nearest thing to MJ because he imitated his style of play. Fact is, LeBron doesn't have the skill set, the determination, the win at all costs and the never give up mentality that MJ possessed. The first time LeBron lost in the finals and the first time he quit on his team and walked out before the game was over, I knew that he would never be at MJ's level.

@@kwesip6267 Really? You say that retiring after winning three titles in a row is "giving up"? You don't "give up" after you've won a championship, much less three. Your definition of "giving up" is so hypocritical when you consider that LeBron has walked out on games numerous times before they're finished. And how many times has LeBron "given up" on his teams? And, if I recall correctly, he did it each time after losing, and losing badly at that. Now, THAT's the true definition of giving up. What a joke!!

But when MJ walked on the court, players were terrified of him." I had flashbacks of being 9 years old in 1983 and watching the Iron Bowl on TV and Bo had 2 TD runs of over 70+ yards and over 250+ yards for the game. The first time was his freshman year in North Carolina and they beat George Town and damn near everyone in my hometown was on the GT junk. Patrick Ewing was in his final year. I said then whatever team he goes to is going to be my team! And still is my team.

That's a cool vid, man. Really emotional stuff in there. I have been a Pistons fan as a child in the late 80s and 90s but MJ ever was like completely out of scale. He was unouchable in the greatest era the NBA has ever had. Great memories. Great memories.
I think the series when he went from like "the best ever" to literally "god" was the 91 finals. These Lakers still had it. But Michael simply dominated them. These games at the ol Inglewood Forum. Amazing. He followed that up with an epic run, for sure.

Saw him on TV as a freshman for NC in a regular season game. He made a move with the ball from a standstill to his right sort of to the side. In that moment he went from being covered to being about three feet or more wide open. The defender was still guarding the spot where MJ was before he made his move.

First saw him play on the new channel, ESPN, when he was at N.C. I remember telling my friends that he would be the best basketball player ever. Because at 20 years of age, he was doing things that my idol, Dr. J, couldn't do. He was literally eons ahead of any player in that era. Special thing to watch him play. It was amazing. Thanks Mike!!

MJ had that killa instinct at UNC. I lived in NC so I got to pretty much all of their games. I have to agree with Jerry West when he said the best move he ever seen MJ do was against the knicks on the base line when he started to go back out the post with the rock then spun on Ewing and dunked it.

I love these MJ (and Bird for that matter) vids. Jordan was in a different universe; SO much fun to watch. The only thing I don't like about these, is that pretty soon they're going to start posting vids about L James. Who is Not EVEN close to MJ. Jordan would have gone for 40 or 50 on James just to show him who was boss. Yes, LJ can play, he's very good. But people now just can't relate to how incredibly competitive Jordan was, no matter who he played, he would cut your heart out to win. James does NOT have that quality. MJ is the GOAT!

For me, there's only four people who were so amazing and sensational at what they did that they literally seemed magical. That's Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Lee. Ali dominated in the ring, Jordan on the court, Jackson on the stage, and Bruce on the screen. I understand that Jackson was just a pop star, and Bruce was an actor, but they still had that X factor. All four were clearly lightyears ahead of their competition. They all moved so gracefully. They were hypnotizing, like they were designed to do what they did. Poetry in motion. All are worldwide phenomenons. You can go anywhere on this planet and find people who feel the same way about these four extremely gifted individuals. There's been nothing like them before or since. Uts the X facfor. It's hard to put a finger on it or even write it out, but all you have to do is watch.

I was the photographer in the Chapel Hill's Bureau of the News and Observer in Raleigh. While I remember he played exceptional, he was VERY black back in the black and white film days...
...just very hard to separate him from the crowd in photos. The had great court lighting, but mostly from above. rules were you had to kneel, so shooting up. just very difficult situation. I ended up much farther into the corner than normal.
