By any chance, do you know who the guy is who told the Larry Bird air ball story?

@@Andre-cg5qj At first I thought it was Eddie Johnson, but after looking its Kenny Battle. Don't really remember him, which might illustrate his point about the airball. :D

I call Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan the Holy Trinity of players who helped create the enormous growth that the modern NBA enjoys today. At one time the NBA was barely surviving but then when these guys came in (as well as Commissioner David Stern) it grew tremendously. There have been great players before them, during their time and after them that helped grow the NBA but nobody was as impactful as those 3 guys. Every NBA player should be thanking those guys for where they stand today.

I am an old lady I am not a basketball fan but there's certain people I love and Larry Bird is a Class Act from start to finish from his dedication to the Celtics to his humble way about him to his trash-talking I love it all and I never get tired of hearing stories about him😊😊😊 he is called Larry the legend for a reason and honestly how many players from that era are still being recognized and talked about still😮😮😮

LeBron will NEVER reach that level of ultimate respect; not as a baller and not as a man. And now not as a father, either, for what he is subjecting his son to.

Larry Bird when he played in New Orleans and the bench go nuts cause Larry is calling his shots and making everything. Mike Fratello ends up fining over half of the Hawks team. That was classic

Great video about 3 of my all time starting five. ✨And in my opinion, the 70s and 90s and early 2000s were the Golden Age of Basketball 🏀. I'm grateful I was alive and young to witness it .... I would watch a game with any of these guys and the next thing you know, I had to grab my ball and go to the court.... And wouldn't you know it, so everyone else....

Kareem took what would have been a Flagrant 1 in today’s NBA (windup blow to the face), finished the dunk and had to come down on the sprained ankle he’d just played 11.5 minutes of the 4th on. Calmly walked to the FT line, made the and-1 to put LAL up 3-2 in the series.
40 points, 67% shooting, 8-9 from the FT line, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks, with 14 of those points (including the game-winning and-1 previously described) and 6 of those rebounds in the 4th while playing on a freshly and severely sprained left ankle.

I just wish I appreciated the times when I was 10 years old as the Lakers and the Celtics were playing in the 86 finals, I mean I was a fan but a homer so the sixers were still a okay team but they won the championship in 83 which I don’t remember but something about the Celtics I always was attracted too.

The only basketball player Larry Bird hated as much as Laimbeer was Kent Benson.
That goes back to their Indiana University days.

I started College in 1974; College and Pro Basketball was a Joke--I went to a Warriors Game in Oakland and it was "Electric". Like watching an NFL team score repeatedly--then Larry Bird came to Indiana, Magic on the scene and from then on--I was looking for games with Larry, Magic, and the rest who brought that league to the light... and now what happened to Caitlan Clarke? What a blown opportunity--thanks ESPN and NIKE--F>U>

Houston did own Jordan and so did the Spurs, so if this was soccer, and base things on non-playoff easy manipulation, then Mike may have 2-3 titles tops

Interesting points, yeah man. Some thoughts: there were Eastern squads which would commonly beat the Bulls in the regular season, only to get handled by them in the postseason. This is not super uncommon in the NBA.
A seven game series is an altogether different beast than one-off seasonal matches. There's fatigue issues, the momentum factor, game to game player & coaching adjustments, etc.
From 96-98 Jazz were 3-1 against the Bulls in the regular season, even handily beating them in Chicago, but then lost 4-2 in the finals.
Truth is, we just don't know how Rockets/Bulls would have gone. It likely would have gone the distance (a la Bulls v Knicks ECF), and that series-cinching game 7 would be the most epic battle ever. I would never want to bet against Hakeem in a do-or-die. But then, I really really wouldn't want to bet against Jordan.
Either way, it's a shame this never happened.
Bulls v Spurs: different story. The pre-Duncan Spurs were notorious for routinely underperforming in the playoffs. You could set your watch to it. My best friend was a HUGE Spurs fan and this was a common frustration for him come mid April.
Thanks for the comment. It's a fun thing to think about
