Great Bird story......1985 game against the Utah Jazz. Larry was having an amazing game. Celtics were up 90-66 after 3 quarters. Larry already had a triple double with 30 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. He also had 9 steals so he was 1 steal shy of a quadruple double which was only done once in NBA history. The Celtics were up by so much that Larry sat out the whole 4th quarter. The coach asked Larry.....don't you want to go in the game and get that last steal for a quadruple double? Larry said....What for? I already did enough damage to them! It just goes to show that statistics meant nothing to him. Winning is all that mattered!!! LEGEND!!!!

Those two saved the Association! Growing up in LA and a lifelong Lakers fan, I can remember when the NBA Finals games wouldn't even be shown live! They came on tape delayed, after the 11pm news. During the sports report, they had to tell viewers if you don't want to know the score/outcome, turn your volume down and/ or leave the room. After Magic & Bird came on the scene, that all changed. Imagine that happening today 🤨

Love when Larry told a rookie I think, maybe a 2nd year kid, good player, not some schlub, a story something like this:
    "Watch this, rook..."
Couple steps over HALF COURT, BOOM, tosses up the shot.... and what happened?
    ....
    Nope.
    Air ball....
Rookie says something like "watch WHAT, nothing but AIR, turnover..."
Larry goes, "yeah,,but I can do that and stay in the game. You can't, ever"
😂😂😂 Bird totally flubs the possession, sure a 30 footer but still, air ball.... and yet, spins it around not only to "win" the trash talk, but if u think about it, also a learning moment,,letting the kiddo know "I'm on a level you MAY, one day, MAYBE kiiiiiinda approach; but I'm HERE, and proven to belong having BEEN HERE on this level, that I can basically throw away a possession so I can talk trash & get in ur head, so U know, I'm good enough to EARN the ABILITY to Chuck away this possession...."
It's so stupid but yet still so awesome 😅

My favorite Magic/Bird story is when the Celtics were playing the Lakers at the Forum.
Magic was out that game from a torn ligament.
Bird walks down to the bench where Magic was and says
"I'm sorry you're not playing today, but since you're here I'm going to put on a show for you"
Magic was like "GET OUT of my face, I don't want to hear that. This is the Lakers and Celtics."
Sure enough, every time Bird made a 3 he would look over at Magic and smile.
The way Magic explains it..... It's just pure comedy.

Lol you can't use the Jordan Dream Team interview in there. Jordan has given interviews in which he speaks of his respect and reverence for the pair of them. But that one is part of the story where he is speaking his own point of view that leads to him basically announcing yeah fuck that, I'm the big dog now and be actually walks in the changeroom saying "There's a new Sheriff in town". And later rubbing it in with Magic asking him how much he liked that ass whooping he gave him. You can actually hear the difference in the tone in which he's speaking in comparison to the others. I never got to see much NBA growing up in small town South Australia. Jordan was still my hero but good I wish I saw Larry Bird. All his stories marvel me to no end. And thanks to RUclips other documentaries and Winning Time Rose of the Lakers for shining some light on just how special Magic was too.
