Nailed it right on the head. Jordan's take might be fake humility, but at least he isn't bragging. Kyrie won that series for Flopron with that shot. If not for that, no Cavs championship, yet he takes credit as GOAT after someone else saved the game for him. He seems to forget that he didn't make the shot. I think MJ was sincere when he did that interview, but since then I think he knows he is the GOAT. And Shaq calling Wilt the most dominant is in that same realm. Shaq KNOWS he was the most dominant, but won't call himself that.
@@pelnarius2446 you bring up great points. It would have been a titanic clash to see Wilt vs Shaq in their primes---Wilt was an off the charts athlete and said to have been the strongest ever to play the game. Shaq was a freak of nature, for a man that size to move like he could. And I agree--I think Jordan was being sincere and recognizes the game has changed enough that comparisons are moot. One thing that is seldom mentioned is LeBron, with his 2" and 60 lb advantage over Jordan also has enjoyed an era where he cannot be touched going to the basket, whereas a smaller Jordan could get hard foul after hard foul without the player being ejected, yet not only missed far fewer games than LeBron by year but still scored more points if you take equal numbers of years (15) as well as played defense better AND won the dunk contest twice. Sorry, no comparison.
@@tombanaski3251 They also don't mention the amount of money Floppy James spends on conditioning. Jordan did what he did while drinking scotch, smoking cigars, gambling all night, then kicking everyone's ass the next day. He also retired three times, came back twice, and still dominated.
Can we also point out that MJ took 2 years off to try out for baseball after the first three championships, then came back after not playing ball to win three more in a row. I was one of the lucky ones to be alive in MJ's era got to watch him play on tv and once in person. Also another little fact about MJ. No matter what team was playing at home if MJ was going to be there it was a packed house because even fans of other teams wanted to witness MJ live. It was something to see.
Michael did it because of his generously God-given ability to fly... and Kobe did it because he poured his heart and time into it... Mamba is an amazing example of "practice will make you do it"... his whole life revolved around basketball
GP, summarized it the sentiment perfectly. What separates MJ and Kobe the most from lebron is that their mentality. MJ and Kobe don’t even know the meaning of tired in the heat of a game.
Agreed. The think about MJ to is that he loved the challenge and took everything personally, which drove him to be the greatest. Not just that, but the athleticism and speed he has is crazy
Let's stop this mentality shit LOL What separates MJ and Kobe from Lebron is their SKILL. They are literally the 2 best basketball players to ever walk to Earth. MJ and Kobe have the 2 best mid range games and footwork of all time. Kobe on the other hand had a pure shot from 3 and crazy handles. I don't understand how Kobe can be better than Lebron in every aspect of basketball except passing yet ppl still think LeBron is better. Ngl Kobe got some weird hate from the NBA. Only 1 MVP when he should have had 3 or 4, and then David Stern personally vetoing the cp3 trade when they allowed Miami big 3 the year before. My list is Jordan, Kobe, Wilt, Lebron in that order. I can confidently say MJ and Kobe won't lose a 1v1 to anyone under 7ft. Then you got Lebron out there getting clapped by Michael Beasley in 1v1's.
Kobe wasnt gifted with Lebron's physical feature and natural talents. All Kobe had was the killer instinct and drive to always try and beat you. And from that drive he worked on his game to become the 2nd greatest. Even if Lebron gets a 5th ring he will not win over Kobe. He just doesnt have that killer instinct that MJ and Kobe had. Also he bounced around teams. I think that fact will always linger in people's minds when comparing Kobe and Lebron. A die hard laker til the very end or a ring chaser always having teams built around you the second you sign the dotted line.
@@tien5tri Couldn't agree with you more. I just wanted to point out that it's more than Kobe's mentality that separated him from everyone else. He's 10x more skilled than Lebron and even Jordan. Lebron and Jordan are probably the most athletic players ever. Jordan had the skill to go along with it that's why he's the goat. And yea Kobe stuck through 3 years of a g league roster when Shaq left. And he could have ring chased after his achilles injury but stayed. The Iverson clip stands out the most to me...did people really just forget the shit Kobe did? Hands down the 2nd greatest and easily the best scorer ever (along with Wilt).
@@GJG_3 but mentality's a huge part of it. That's what kept Kobe and MJ from doing silly shit like flopping, team hopping, etc. Also, it's that mentality that never allowed them to get outplayed by a role player for a finals series. Lastly, at no point did Kobe or Mj have to be pushed to a "legacy on the line" game before they showed the heart to lead their teams to a championship.
I love that Michael Jordan doesn't say he's the goat, which makes him more than the goat, everyone on this planet knows he's the greatest ever, even LeBron.
That's what kind of disqualifies LBJ from the goat conversation for me. MJ and Kobe were both beasts and they were exciting to watch every night. LBJ is cold and calculating, often making cheap moves and allways concerned about his overall greatness more than the game he is playing.
Kobe isn’t even a top 20 shooting guard statistically in fg%, apg, rpg, bpg, spg Most players that played with all 3 for very long played with an 18-20 year old Lebron and he still schooled them
This why I have so much respect for MJ, even his thought process respects his predecessors. The absolute difference between elite players and great players.
He says that because that’s the only thing he can admit to. He never competed with his predecessors so he can’t truly just say he’s better. He would love to have the chance to play his predecessors so that he can win and brag about it.
and mj did it all with so much style, if a player wants to be goat, they have to beat mj in stats and do it with moe style, not likely to ever happen. kobe is the closest thing well see for a while, he made it look so good like mj.
@@Physics072 in between when Wilt retired and Magic Bird entered the league the game was very thuggish. This is part of the reason but not the only one why even the finals were not shown live on television but instead they were taped delayed. Yes Magic and Bird saved the NBA. Jordan then carried the torch and the league was able to hype his career and the league to a level never seen before or since.
Michael Jordan is above them and they know it. The phase “the Michael Jordan of” became a thing in society and it signifies excellence in whatever field. Kobe, Lebron and whoever else that came after. Are excellent no doubt in their own right but Jordan was in his own league there’s no denying it. Others going to bed, Jordan still playing ball after all the crowd left. Others can reach the summit but Jordan will forever be the mountain.
Anyone who thinks MJ is the GOAT was born in the 80s, and use old head logic to try in validate their argument. When most players in today's league are better shooters and better shot creators.
I don't see Jordan when I watch LeBron,When watching LeBron, i see Magic..I see Jordan when I watch Kobe..at the end of the day..they are all great players 👍
Total Achievements: (Titles, MVPs, Finals MVPs, 1st All-NBA, 1st All-DEF) 1) Jordan = 36 2) LeBron = 30 3) Kareem = 29 4) Kobe = 28 4) Duncan = 28 6) Magic = 20 7) Russell = 19 8) Bird = 17 9) Wilt = 16** 10) Shaq/Hakeem = 16 **Would be a lot higher but All-Defensive Team selections didn't start until 1969 BTW, Players like Durant = 12, Giannis = 10, Curry = 9 and a couple of others still have a chance on making it into that Top Achievement list before their career is over.
Kobe's efficiency stats, which are stats that really matter, make him average. He was known as a 'scorer' right? His last-second shots clanked 75% of the time. He never one time shot over 50% from the field in a season in his entire career. NOT ONCE... his lifetime FG% is sub 45%, which is average. That means he shot a lot... that is all. In the Laker's first 3 championships, 2 of which were legit, he wasn't even close to being the best guy on the team, with Shaq being the most dominant player in the league in those years. Kobe wasn't even in the same league as Jordan or even LeBron for that matter... BTW, LeBron is working on his 10th season I believe shooting over 50% from the field, and of course, his triple-doubles are light years ahead of Kobe, and a long ways ahead of Jordan also... LeBron is the closest thing to Jordan, except he doesn't have Jordan's heart and drive and quiet leadership skills, which takes him down a lot in the spectrum, but still far ahead of Kobe
I knew it's always gonna be MJ top #1 but I'm happier knowing Shaq, Charles, and Allen and many others rank Kobe over Lebron. Rest in Peace Kobe! Mamba forever!
Different mentalities. MJ never took even a minute off. From 86-91, 5 seasons, MISSED ONE TOTAL GAME. The second 3-peat after baseball, MISSED ZERO GAMES. Nobody in this era has that mindset to ever approach Jordan's greatness.
Jordan was truly an unstoppable force of nature. I’ve never seen an athlete like him in any sport. Guess that’s why he was ranked greatest athlete of the 20th century.
Put LeBron in a time machine and let him play a game against the Bulls, The Pistons, The Jazz, The Lakers... HE wouldn't win a 7 game series against any of them. Even with a cherry picked dream team. He'll he was part of a USA basketball team that DIDNT win gold lol.
And just the fact that Jordan had his insane scoring averages in that era... I can't even guess how many pts a game he'd have in today's league!! No defense, games have higher scoring totals these days. Jordan might put up 50 a game haha
MJ never took a night off. I live in Sacramento and clearly in Jordan's era the Bulls did not need him to play to get the W vs the Kings but Jordan still laced em up every single time he came to Sac. Mad respect. Watching MJ and Mitch Richmond go at it was a pleasure.
@@ArigatoGyrooso what. Took 2 years off to play another sport. Came back an won 3 more. Was still unstoppable an the greatest after taking 2 years off. He's a joke
@@ArigatoGyroo He was forced to due to gambling. He was sooo big that they couldn't just ban him, so he was forced out for 2 years. Look what happened when he came back. He and his team won 3 straight championships AGAIN....If that doesn't tell you how great he was, then I don't know what does.
LeBron said by him bringing Cleveland the 1st Championship made him the GOAT. M.J. did the same w/ Chicago and bringing that same team 6 Championships.
You know... at the end of the day I guess it doesn't really matter. But I think the reason it bothers me so much is because I don't think Lebron has the qualities of a champion. I think Lebron is weak under pressure and a poor leader. He takes credit for success and blames the people around him whenever he fails. Quite simply, Lebron does not possess the values that set a person apart as "The greatest of all time". People don't realize when they put Lebron James up there as "The greatest of all time" they are actually devaluing the very meaning of the word.
There are a few players over the years that I think displayed a toughness and determination that no one else had. I think Kobe was one of them, so was Bird, so was Magic, and MJ is at the pinnacle of them all. There are probably a few others, Kareem and Bill Russell come to mind. Maybe Tim Duncan. But it's a short list. And I don't think Lebron is on that list.
MJ the goat but Bron was saying he bought back a championship by beating the greatest record of all time 73-9) beating the greatest team made him the goat is what he's saying
Yea lebron disappearing against the mavs in the finals and also disappearing against the celtics the year before is hard to defend. All i can say for lebrons case is after that mavs series he never disappeared during the playoffs again. Mj and kobe are really different than lbj though and kobe had some failures but it wasnt lack of trying. I mean kobes first playoff series he air balled three 3s and got eliminated because of it. That could of ruined most teens but he just worked harder. And during game 7 against the celts where he obviously had a horrendous shooting night he never got deterred after three quarters of poor shooting he still put up 10 in the 4th which was more than anyone else on either team and he got 15 rebounds in the game.
😂😭His team way by far better, what do you mean. He never faced a team that posed any real threat. That’s a hard task. I watched those finals live, dude the teams are anything near the Bulls. The Bulls could’ve won without MJ.

My favorite quote from Chamberlain on why Jordan couldn't be the NBA goat was this one, “The difference between you and me is that they had to change the rules for me so I couldn't dominate. They changed the rules so that you could.”
I’ve watched all three and love all three but Jordan was the most insane thing I’ve ever watched! I’m not forgetting Kareem, Magic and Larry! Those are my eras! Wasn’t alive to see Elgin Wilt and Bill! All great in their own right! Jordan just had a little something extra!
I’ll never forget watching Jordan for the first time. I was all about Magic Johnson. Then my best friend said the bulls game is coming on watch what Michael Jordan can do. I sat down like man forget Michael Jordan who the heck is Michael Jordan. Let me watch this game and see if he everything you say he is. Man that guy put on a show!! Dunks reverse Layups you name it. He was like a video game character. His moves were like next level. Good NBA players looked silly trying to hold him. That one game made me a believer. So yeah Mike will always be the greatest!
I remember watching MJ in 85 and he was unbelievable, and I was a Boston’s fan. I said right then that this guy is the best Basketball player I’ve ever seen and he was quick. I never seen Kobe or LeBron with the speed a young Jordon had. He put on a show for sure. He was great. Nobody ever watched Jordon in the 80’s must

I think the difference is really between the mentality of Kobe and Mike brought vs the mentality Lebron brought. Jordan and Kobe were competitive at everything. They hated losing more than anything. I don’t think they were as obsessed with being the best of all time but instead they wanted to be the best player on the floor at all times. I honestly think that’s why Kobe retired. I think he didn’t want to be the second or third best player in the league.
I disagree with your comment about kobe's retirement,he retire because of his achilles injury,I wonder what will happens to lebron if kobe will play 2 to 3 more yrs. I dont think that he will be aknowledge😂😂😂😂😂

This is a fantastic debate! Here’s my take on the GOAT using a unique analogy: Steel Analogy: • Michael Jordan is like high-carbon steel: the gold standard for strength and durability. His six championships and relentless competitive edge make him the benchmark for greatness. • Kobe Bryant is like stainless steel: resilient and versatile. His five championships and “Mamba Mentality” reflect his enduring impact and ability to shine in various roles. • LeBron James is like alloy steel: enhanced through diverse elements. His versatility and success across different teams highlight his all-around excellence. Diamond Analogy: • Michael Jordan is a flawless diamond: the pinnacle of purity and brilliance. His illustrious career and iconic performances set the ultimate standard in basketball. • Kobe Bryant is a VVS1 diamond: nearly perfect, reflecting his exceptional skill and dedication. His remarkable achievements and resilience shine through like the high quality of this diamond. • LeBron James is a VS1 diamond: exceptional quality with minor inclusions, symbolizing his versatility and comprehensive skill set. His ability to excel in various roles showcases his resilience and adaptability. Why Michael Jordan is the GOAT: When we talk about the GOAT, we’re referring to the player by whom all others are judged. Just like high-carbon steel sets the highest benchmark for strength and a flawless diamond represents ultimate brilliance, Michael Jordan is the standard of greatness in basketball. His six championships, five MVP awards, and unmatched competitive spirit make him the definitive GOAT.
"In my lifetime, Michael Jordan is the GOAT" makes no sense. Do you know what AT stands for in GOAT? ALL TIME, not part time, not lifetime, but ALL TIME.
Jordan by far. He was a assasin on both sides of the court. Extremely letal in big games. Not only imposed himself by sheer ability, plus by his mentality. That's the origin of Mamba Mentality.

As a footnote, when Lebron was a rookie, I predicted he would become the GOAT..... but he never passed those two, and I don't base ANY of it on the number of rings. I'm talking pure basketball skill!
Well, on skill, you need to add others before James. Bird, for one. And I agree with you-playing more seasons (accumulating more stats) shouldn’t change the order. We’ve seen enough.

I am a Laker fan to my very core, but Michael Air Jordan is the best player that I ever seen to play the game ( especially @ his size ) and the over all talent and adversity that he had to go through and endure, placed him in a class all by himself.
I was a Magic Johnson fan & Lakers fan. So I hated on Jordan while he was playing. With that said I couldn’t agree more. He’s def the best I’ve ever seen. He’s a stone cold killer. Didn’t sit out games Bc it was the 2nd of a back to back. 6 finals, 6 rings, never even let it get to a game 7.
MJ turned a losing team into the most dominating team in the NBA. Turned millions of people into fans of basketball. Lebron picked a winning team was not able to make the difference himself. Takes games off. Mike brought it every game no matter what, never did he consider a game not important. Most influential player ever.
In the Early days of the NBA, there wasn't much question who the best basketball player was. It was Wilt, and nobody questioned it. Then guys like Kareem, Dr J, Bird, Magic came along and people started to make arguments about one being better than the other, but no definitive answer to who was the greatest. They were all great in their own right. Stars of the league, and legends of the game. When Jordan came along, it was like something out of a writer's room. Within his first month as a Bull, people began to take notice of this kid who was absolutely dominating everyone. Nobody could stop him. The minute that man laced up his shoes for the first time and hit that court, he was already talked about with the likes of the greats. People questioned, just how good could this kid get? Years went by and Jordan never waivered from that mark as the best basetball player of his time. Pushed past Magic and Bird, and stood at the top of the mt. rushmore of 1980's and 1990's NBA. There was a time before Jordan where it was debated who was the best ever, when Jordan arrived, there was no longer a debate. He broke the game. now, over 20 years after he retired from the game of basketball, people still compare the stars of the league and legends of the game to his name. He will forever be the greatest basketball player to ever walk the Earth. Players will come and they will pass, but whoever joins the game today knows there is only 1 name they will compare yours too, no matter how great you are. And you know what that name is.
Let me add to this... he's not only the greatest basketball player of all time, but the greatest athlete of all time. There was nothing like MJ back in the 90s
@@sheriffdraws8789 Bwahaha ha ha ha. Greatest athlete of all time. He lost thousands of dollars to a golf hustler and spent two years in the minors because he couldn't hit a curve ball. He was also unreliable shooting from outside. He could drive and dunk. That's it.
If you watch a HIGHLIGHTS REEL of all 3 of these guys, u can clearly see KOBE and JORDAN are far more superior than LEBRON when it comes down to PURE Basketball SKILL 🏀💯
It's because LBJ is built like a PF and plays SF in the era of perimeter players. MJ and Kobe were both guards playing in the era of dominant big men. MJ and Kobe needed to pull out real magic. LBJ simply drives to the basket and many times people rather dodge than commit a cheap foul.
If Jordan played in today's game, he'd have averaged 45+ ppg. Kobe was a great, LeBron is great, Bill Russel had an outstanding run... but MJ was on another level when it came to talent and competitiveness.
Kobe was as good as MJ , more skilled, he just faced greater and more athletic players than Jordan had to face. The fact that with a Shaq and Kobe led team they lost to the Pistons shows you how good the Pistons were Defensively.
To me I want to say Lebron cause out of those 3 he is the only one to make regular players play at a higher level. The one thing he dosn't have over the other 2 is what you just mentioned which is competitiveness. Sometimes Lebron looks scared of the bright light
I love how LBJ said that in front of a friendly crowd and no one jumped in to agree with him. They let him explain himself while they scratched their heads.
I can settle the debate. Several years before MJ retired the media started asking who’s the next MJ. They gave the title of next MJ to multiple players including Kobe and Lebron. Nobody is asking who the next Kobe or Lebron is. And after Lebron retires the debate will start again, who is the next MJ?
I will tell you why this debate is very complex . Kobe and LeBron might just have reach the " Jordan level " . Greatness , clutchness in the most important times , and titles . Kobe proved it by winning 2 more title after shaq left . He did it against a Celtics team with , Kevin Garnett , Paul Pierce , ray Allen and rondo . 1 vs 4 and with a broken finger. This accomplishment is unmatched . LeBron is the most complete player of all time . His best ability is his assist game . But he can dunk , and shoot 3 point . He can do it all . LeBron early miami was the best player of all time . He could jump higher than. Jordan , dunk stronger , was leading in assist and defense . He also won 3 title in 3 different teams . Each time final mvp . So now we have 3 level of greatness . And we are witnessing the 4 the level of greatness stephen curry the best shooter of all time . Kobe had the mind , because he didn't have the body like MJ . MJ had the body , the mind and the skills. LeBron had , the individual skills , the teamates skills , the body , the longevity . And curry is making everyone want to shoot more 3s
I'm just gonna say if MJ came straight out of high school playing the way he did as a rookie, never retired, and injured he would have the scoring record that probably no one can catch. Remember he only played 13 HEALTHY years and and got scoring titles for 10 of them averaging 30+ pts
I agree to 30 points times 82 games times 17 seasons and see what you comes up with watch mj numbers lol 😂 40 plus thousands points maybe close to 48 thousands points
You forget he played 82 full games every year for most of his career in a more physical nba league. The one that calls himself the goat barely played full seasons
The whole lost more finals is a tired argument, especially when talking about Kobe. How many Finals MVP does Kobe have in comparison? How many NBA MVPs? I'm not saying Kobe should not be brought up, I'm saying bring a stronger argument.
@@tonyt6172 no, if that was the narrative bill russell would be the goat. jordan didnt start winning until pippen came around + he had incredible defensive players, he was getting swept 1st round before all that. he had a pefect storm which allowed him to shine. LBJ is the greatest player of all time
Here's something no one talks about, how artistic Jordan was with the ball. His plasticity, the way he moved and flew with the ball has been copied but never matched. The excitement wasn't just on the descriptive dunks and shots made, they were, partly if not mostly on how he dunked and made those shots. It's a numbers game but there is an art to it and Jordan was in a league of his own.
Kobe had Shaq from the get go. The Lakers attained Kobe by convincing him to reject playing for anyone other than the Lakers. Without Shaq, Kobe wins 3 Championships in his career
Kobe Bryant showed he could do it without Shaq, Michael Jordan left to play basketball and when he came back he went back to Pippin instead of going somewhere else to show he could do it without Pippin, Kobe said that in the last dance to be a nice guy, but Kobe still did it, and Michael Jordan fans take that to heart just because Kobe said that, go watch the video where Michael Jordan told Kobe you can wear the shoes but your not going to be the man and the next game they played Kobe just walked all over Jordan, Kobe was better than Jordan and he proved it, just because Kobe didn't have great teammates to win more championships, but Jordan always had Pippin, face the facts
i would agree. kobe was insanely skilled. i still think jordan was thr best ever overall, but kobe was really incredible to watch too. i have always thought kobe is underrated on the best player list. i would personally put kobe ahead of lebron without a doubt. the dude just didnt miss
Kobe was in the toughest conference probably in NBA history. 2000-2010 western conference had the most complete teams, and hof players. First half of that decade Kobe and Shaq owned it, second half Kobe won 2 chips out of the 3 times he went to the finals. 7 of those 10 years he went to the finals and lost only 2 times to teams that had 4 all stars on each roster
Well said! This is definitely not on any existing stats before and even now. STATS are always one sided. Or probably i am wrong. Are there any stats that can calculate how many great players on each CONFERENCES?
Even his road to the finals was fucking crazy. Warring with the Spurs, Suns, Mavs. Some seasons, you didnt make the playoffs out west without 50+ games.
To put it this way, LeBron had to beat Ben Wallace led teams and Paul George led teams. He lost outright to Dwight Howard. The only true challenge to nearly any team in the West was the Celtics, and they were old, and the Pistons, before LeBron could shoulder the load against a truly balanced squad. Kobe was beating Duncan/Parker/Ginobli, Nowitzki, Nash/Amare/Marion, Carmelo, to even get to the Finals, where he was facing three hall of famers or whoever LeBron had lost to.
Nah. 80's East were harder. 80's East had Boston with Bird/Maravich, 76ers with Dr.J, Pistons with Thomas/Laimbeer/Rodman/Dumars, Bulls with Mj/Scottie, Knicks with Ewing/cummings/Sparrow, Atlanta with Wilkins/Rivers/Wittman and so on.
Imagine wilt and jokic as your bigs bro... You won't agree but I think having magic and jokic as the spacer with wilt and Jordan being the focal would be broken.
I think it's pretty clear.... MJ: Hands down best clutch player.... Kobe: Was magic with the ball... then a whole bunch of other players... Lebron: Is best at stat padding, flopping, self promotion, leaving team mates to defend by themselves as he stands around, and is the worst in the clutch, Lebron is the last guy you'd hand the ball to win game 7 final shot... but he will take it, miss, and then blame his team of 'minimals' for not helping him shoot the ball all by himself at the net.... and get nothing but air...
lebron never played serious D,saving energy for offense, and to be the goat you have to have complete package.oh yeah and not to flop on point guards cos you lose your credibility.
@@peralozac4046 Micheal Jordan is the complete package. That's why he's the goat. Nobody and I mean nobody will or has ever called Tom Brady the LeBron James of football... haha that's even reads stupid. If you're the GOAT of any sport you're referred to as The Micheal Jordan of said sport.
I think Kobe gets skipped over because of a combination of Mike and Kobe’s careers overlapping, + recency bias from the younger generation of fans who have only ever known and seen LBJ play. So they’re the ones pushing the argument that LeBron is the GOAT. And in order to do that, they skip straight to the greatest who came before him to compare and make their case. But, if they had seen Mike play his whole career and had seen Kobe follow, there would be less controversy and Kobe would be getting the recognition he deserves. I don’t know a single person who has watched all of both MJ and LeBeon’s careers, and considers LeBron to be better than Kobe, much less MJ.
@Jermont Trice Kobe was special. But MJ was waaaayyyy more special. Trust me. Being a kid in the 80’s and 90’s watching MJ was a work of art. I mean where do you think Kobe got his moves from. Who do you think Kobe trained with for years. MJ was just on a different level. And the biggest reason for that was his ability to control the ball. It was like Steve Jobs and Apple. Way before their time.
I get all that it’s gonna be different for everyone I would’ve like to see a 90s Jordan but being born in 92 and not getting into ball until 2000s I can’t say how great he since I didn’t see that version of him
@@durriellhumphrey I mean you can always pay homage humbly but 20 years, 1 franchise, 5 rings, and scored more points then MJ with more injuries then him... im not saying Mike isn't a GOAT cause he was special. But to say Mike was way more special is a stretch. 81 points in game, 60 in his last game, 4th all time in scoring, if Kobe isnt better he's arms length.
@@jaybro2285 MJ had weak competition? What about Celtics who played with 5 hall of famers, Bad Boys Pistons, Knicks (with Patrick Ewing), Orlando Magics (with Shaquille O'Neil) and the Indiana Pacers (with Reggie Miller). Look at this video ruclips.net/video/tl3mR6eoEa8/видео.html and tell me how LBJ is the better player. Sure, the vid was made in 2020 so it doesn't account for last years season where LBJ improved with one additional MVP.
The last minute of the video provides the conclusion. One shameless self promotion completely divorced from reality and one humble and respectful admiration of those who come before.
MJ is the least humble athlete I've ever seen, but he did show humility there. I personally think MJ is probably better than LeBron, but like Mike said; nobody knows. Players from different eras, playing different positions, with different supporting casts, different injury history, different rules, different competition, etc. LeBron's claim is not "completely divorced from reality." You can make the argument that he's the more complete player, that he's more consistently been a better team player, that he doesn't score as well, but is the all time leading scorer, while also getting more assists and rebounds, and that he had tremendous success in getting to about a million Conference Finals in a row with far less surrounding talent than MJ had when he won 6 titles. And LeBron did that across 3 different franchises with several different coaches as well. LeBron's sustained greatness for two decades is only rivaled by Kareem. Maybe it could've been by MJ but he left for baseball for almost 2 full seasons, missed almost an entire year when he was very young, and retired from the Bulls with a lot left in the tank before coming back an old man with the Wizards. Had he not done that, maybe he would be the all time leading scorer - but he's not. MJ was a far better defender, but not a better passer or rebounder. People that try to make this a clear cut answer are missing a lot of nuance. MJ ruthlessly bullied his own teammates - would I want that if I were starting a franchise? No.
@@isaiahayers1550he is the leading scorer for 1 reason only and that’s he played longer than everybody in the league so that shouldn’t even be part of the debate.
The GOAT discussion should never existed. The real discussion should be who's second: Kobe or LeBron. The fact is MJ and Kobe never flopped and never quit on his team. 6-8 250 power forwards should never get knocked over by picks thrown by 5'10', 155lb point guards.
When MJ came to your city, he sold out every Arena. Meaning, people come out just to see him preform. That's something we can't say about LBJ nor Kobe. The reason Kobe is lost in the MJ & LBJ conversation, that's because of the media, and this millennial generation! I'll take Kobe over LBJ any day!
@LYVE 1992 what killed kobe is after Shaq he never had an all star on his team. And still managed. If he played in this league or had this talent round him hes winning every year. All he needed was somone who was efficient and aggressive to take half that load off.
@@Islandvybz96 MJ Prime vs Kobe prime..MJ wins. MJ was an assassin. Play the game on the court AND in your head. Kobe is the closest. Not counting the older era. Different type of game then. MJ had DEFENSE too.
After Lebron quit and walked off the court in the finals game Heat vs Dallas he became automatically disqualified from the goat consideration. A champion does not quit period.
It's easy to think of MJ and Kobe as the greatest. If you watched them in real time you'd know also. MJ gets the edge in my opinion. With LeBron it seems forced on us. It's too bad because his accolades stand for themselves but everyone in this era wants to keep comparing. When we say MJ or kobe were better we're called haters. We're not haters we just know
Lebron average more points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, 4 MVPS than Kobe but Kobe is better, okay. They also played in the league 13 years at the same time Kobe 1 mvp to Lebron's 4, kobe 2 finals mvp Lebron 4. How is Kobe better?

Nailed it right on the head. Jordan's take might be fake humility, but at least he isn't bragging. Kyrie won that series for Flopron with that shot. If not for that, no Cavs championship, yet he takes credit as GOAT after someone else saved the game for him. He seems to forget that he didn't make the shot. I think MJ was sincere when he did that interview, but since then I think he knows he is the GOAT. And Shaq calling Wilt the most dominant is in that same realm. Shaq KNOWS he was the most dominant, but won't call himself that.
Great quote from Walter Payton, and it is 100% true about just about anything.

Quite simply, Lebron does not possess the values that set a person apart as "The greatest of all time".
People don't realize when they put Lebron James up there as "The greatest of all time" they are actually devaluing the very meaning of the word.

The moment was never too big for MJ. I saw LJ look small in the finals. MJ never let that happen.

I love this story!
Have to agree, Laker fan born and raised....MJ gave it his all both ways every night awesome.... just jealous 😂😂😂

It was an absolute refusal to lose from Jordan and players now have nowhere near then determination and Competitive/Killer Instinct he had and that’s just one thing that sets him apart
This is a fantastic debate! Here’s my take on the GOAT using a unique analogy:
Steel Analogy:
• Michael Jordan is like high-carbon steel: the gold standard for strength and durability.
Diamond Analogy:
• Michael Jordan is a flawless diamond: the pinnacle of purity and brilliance.
Why Michael Jordan is the GOAT:
When we talk about the GOAT, we’re referring to the player by whom all others are judged. Just like high-carbon steel sets the highest benchmark for strength and a flawless diamond represents ultimate brilliance, Michael Jordan is the standard of greatness in basketball. His six championships, five MVP awards, and unmatched competitive spirit make him the definitive GOAT.
In my lifetime, Michael Jordan is the GOAT, hands down. Nobody was feared like MJ.

Lebum is a ring chaser.

Exactly.

MJ's idol, Dr. J, was up there with him (if not better) in artistic play!

Kobe had Shaq from the get go. The Lakers attained Kobe by convincing him to reject playing for anyone other than the Lakers. Without Shaq, Kobe wins 3 Championships in his career
"I don't get 5 championships here without him" - Kobe's comment about Michael Jordan 🐐 in the Last Dance Documentary
That's why their gameplay were almost identical but kobe had his own style.

Shaq Rodman miller mj Stockton
I think it's pretty clear....
MJ: Hands down best clutch player....
Kobe: Was magic with the ball...
then a whole bunch of other players...
Lebron: Is best at stat padding, flopping, self promotion, leaving team mates to defend by themselves as he stands around, and is the worst in the clutch, Lebron is the last guy you'd hand the ball to win game 7 final shot... but he will take it, miss, and then blame his team of 'minimals' for not helping him shoot the ball all by himself at the net.... and get nothing but air...

Jordan and Kobe top 2 most skilled players, watch the highlights and they are ridiculous, like jaw dropping
HE WILHIPPED HIM OVER AND OVER AGAIN.THSTS HOW .BRON WAY BETTER
lebron never played serious D,saving energy for offense, and to be the goat you have to have complete package.oh yeah and not to flop on point guards cos you lose your credibility.
GOAT never had to make a claim because everyone knows he is
I never got to watch Mike, i know everything about him but i got to watch Kobe and... i've never felt more privileged to watch a basketball player.
The Jordan I know was on the wizards. But Kobe was special.
@Jermont Trice
Kobe was special.

This. 100%
Very well said, if I could put it into words that's what I would say. Humble
No.
insane
