    just happened upon this, but looked so interesting, I had to watch. I grew up working with pastels as a child and teenager, so this really intrigued me...AND I actually learned a lot and can hopefully broaden my creativity. Thanks a lot, sincerely.

      +LifeOfBrian Great to hear! This was the first pastel I drew in twenty years. I have been drawing digital for so long, but nothing beats working on paper. You only get very dirty fingers and hands! But there is something wonderful about working with pastels.

    En la animación final se pueden ver los hermosos dibujos usados, dibujos al pastel con la técnica tradicional, magníficos.
    Muchas gracias por mostrar la técnica.

    Thanks ***** I have ArtRage for iPad. It is a great app to draw and paint in. I usually draw everything Digital. I have been doing that for 15 years using a Wacom Cintiq and Photoshop and Flash. A lot of my backgrounds I paint in Procreate for iPad. Since I started this RUclips channel I started drawing on paper again. To my opinion if you want to achieve a natural media look do it in the traditional way. It is another kind of process. For my work I have to make animations of traditional artwork of Children's Books. All of them are done on paper. This video tutorial is just a little explanation of staying true to the style of the original illustration without using too much digital effects. I am now going to mix traditional and digital into my work even more.

      +Stayf Draws Have you tried with Corel Painter?. Last day I painted a bit with the simulation of crayons and some pencils making an illustration like if it was made physically and traditionally (like you do in this video). This could save you a lot of time. Let me see if I can attatch here by some part.. :)

      +Stayf Draws Regarding to iPad, I think that iPad although has one of the best technology for digital styluses/pens , lacks of professional software which allows you to come and comeback from your iPad to your desktop MAC or PC. This is what, in my opinion, prevents to call this tablet "Pro". A windows 10 tablet (Surface Pro 4 and 3) yes they can be called "Pro". If Apple doesn't install the OSx (instead of its good OS iOS) and equip their iPads with the sixth Intel's processors m class (m3, m5 and m7) for boost their tablets instead of hteir ARM processors they will loose the fight against the every time more numerous Windows tablets. Thsi is why I still haven't bought a tablet waiting for a lower price for the Surface Pro 4 if HP with their Pavilion don't leave clear which stylus works well on them (HP Pavilion X2 12 has 8GB and better connectivity compared with the surface Pro4).

      I have been using Corel Paint in the past, but it was lacking in speed. Especially when you are using the watercolors. The latency is terrible. For digital painting I use Photoshop a lot and Clip Studio Paint. I draw and animate on a Wacom Cintiq and that is a professional tool to work with. But I really like to draw and paint in Procreate, which is the best painting app for iPad. I even prefer it to working on my Mac in Photoshop. The main reason is that the iPad Pro is much lighter and you can just paint while you are sitting on the coach. The interface of Procreate is very hands on and let's you concentrate more on the painting and drawing.I think the Apple Pencil is more accurate than the Wacom Pen that comes with my Cintiq. It really is a shame that you can only work in iOs and not in OSx. There is an app called Astropad where you can mirror your iPad and use it to draw on your Mac. But you need a very fast Mac to avoid latency. I never worked on a Surface Pro, but it looks like a real good product as well.

    • @jorari71
      @jorari71 8 лет назад

      Yes!.
      I thought that with iPad Pro would means one of two:
      a).-They have included the same Operating system than in our desktop computers.
      b).-Big companies like Adobe, Corel or Smith Micro would create a full compatible version of their applications in iOS.
      But anything of these two points and this was really disappointing for me. Only (I have to admit) a super-incredible stylus: the Appel Pencil.
      With my i7 processor and my Quadro 620K graphics card I can paint without any lag in my PC.
      And After giving a try to a Surface Pro 4 , I think that I will by it. The super comfortable experience of painting wherever you want (and need) and take with you all your 2D work it's one of the best things in this world.
      Sometimes I feel the needing of painting and I can't because I am not at home with my PC...With a surface, I can start a project in ClipStudio or Photoshop, and continue it in my Desktop PC and comeback again with my tablet and come and continue in my PC and viceversa till the end of the artwork. iPad Pro can't allow you that. And Apple is loosing the battle even when they invented this gadget and they have the best quality product.
      I am a former user of Procreate and believe me, it's an amazing program, the best tablet oriented painting program I've ever used for any Operating System.
      It's a pleasure to interchange opinions and reviews with you, from this with passionates us. :)

      You got some good points there José! We are always looking for the best tools to work with. If it is on paper or digital. In the end they are just tools to master your drawings and paintings. I just switch between working on my Mac, on my iPad and occasionally on paper.

      Stayf Draws I toy around with it. I was attracted by the bone animation. I probably fire it up once or twice a year, and have been upgrading to each new version since v8. Not the best way to spend my money, but I have fun with it for a week or two before moving on. Hoping to have free time to do something substantial one day, but it just hasn't happened so far :)

    Wow
    Now that is really good tutorial. I am biggener at animation and start with moho. It seemed looking at white boring board full with icons and tabs. My mind stopped.
    You should make a complete course for animation with moho from scratch. Please think about that. Each course I bought in moho was missing lots of consept or difficult to follow. When I find your chanel it was like a safe from drowning. I also bought your tutorial on vemo (Animate 2D with live_ action. You make everything seems easy.

    Hey Stayf, well done. I really enjoyed your finished result. I also wanted to point you towards a little art program called Art Rage. It can emulate painting with oils, water color, pen and ink, pencil, etc .... But you might really be interested in it's chalk and crayon painting tools which look very much like pastel. You can even pick the type and roughness of the digital paper you're drawing on.
    It's only like $49 US, then another $100 for a wacom pen tablet. But it would save you SO MUCH time converting your artwork to digital. Plus, you could also create your illustrations in layers, then save them out as a PSD file, which could them be imported into Anime Studio pro.
    Check it out, and take care :)

    This is very cool. I'm wanting to do an animated video using water colors and I'm thinking I can use a similar technique. However, it looks fairly time consuming. I could see a five minute animation taking several months to complete. I was curious if it would be faster to draw the deer on green paper and chroma key or color select it out versus do the hand selection process.

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  7 лет назад

      You can draw it green coloured paper, but then this will shine through when you paint with watercolour. You want to preserve the edges of water-colors and pastels. That makes it unique. If you have a character you want to animate it is best to make a setup from your character from all angles. With a set of arms, legs and a variety of hand poses. I have made another video about setting up a character in Anime Studio and Moho and you can find it here:

    Thank you for sharing your expertise in your well done videos! Ever since seeing what effects can be done using the Pin Tool in Adobe's After Effects, I've been mesmerized by the organic feel that it has. But, with Adobe's choice to "rent" their cloud-ware, I'm finding it to be cost prohibitive in the long run. My quest continues for the search of the perfect tool. I have been attempting to do this technique of animation (and cut-out animation) in Blender, the results so far have been encouraging, but I am feeling that AnimateStudioPro's workflow and tools would make this process easier... at least you make it look to be so easy! Please do some more videos using AnimationStudioPro. Would you also share what kinds of projects that you're applying these animations to? Thanks again, Stayf... Doodles!

      William Rose Hello William, Thanks for the compliment. I have been working with Anime Studio for a long time doing animations of Children's book and Children's Books apps. One app is called Timo and the Magic Picture Book and is available for iPad. Here is a little preview ruclips.net/video/maT946oCQjg/видео.html
      Here are some other samples of Children's Book adaptation done with ASP:

      I will do more tutorials on working in Anime Studio soon. Starting out with ASP is hard in the beginning but fortunately Smith Micro has a great forum and community and the software has regular updates and great support.

      Stayf Draws also, how did you get the scene to look like perspective? When you moved the cam, the background moved too.

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  7 лет назад

      On frame zero select the top layer and then go to the adjustment menu on top of your screen. You can see it at 8:42 when I change the numbers behind the Z. Z is the depth of your layers. Make your background layer on 0 and the Z depth of your character or what is on top of it a bigger number like 0.2 or 0.4. Then double click on your layer and select Allow animated layer effect. Then your depth of field should work with your camera.

    Great stuff! Easy listening with lots of info to learn from while referencing the features of Anime Studio. One question. Since I use other drawing programs, will it be much harder without Photoshop? ie. scene updates, importing.

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  8 лет назад

      +Les Henderson Thanks Les! If you can export your layered file to a PSD- file you can import it into Anime Studio. Otherwise you have to export all your layers as PNG's with Alpha channel. Most programs have scripts for it to batch export.

    • @LesHenderson
      @LesHenderson 8 лет назад

      Of course. Being able to convert to the right file format is just as good as having the program as long as you're not dealing with some integrated plugin. Even then you should be able to do it manually.
      Thanks for the reminder.

    Can you install Anime Studio Pro 11 into more than one computer? Like, I'll buy it, install it on my laptop, and later install it on a desktop. Is that possible, or do I need to buy another?

    Great lesson!!!! Yes, more Moho/PhotoShop would be wonderful!!!! I'm learning how to animate my oil paintings. Do you have any in this animation style of machines--like cars, bulldozers, tractors, etc? Someone did a short animation for me of one of my snowcat machine paintings. I would love to be able to figure out all the stuff she did!!! Thank you very much for the lesson!!!!!

    I'm loving your tutorials man! I do have a question about attaching bones to png files. In your video you seem to draw your bones and instantly your image is attached to the bones. I have my png file uploaded, bones drawn, the bones work great, but my image is completely detached from the bones. Any thoughts? Thanks

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  8 лет назад

      +Tim Solly Thanks Tim! If you create a bone layer, you need to drag the PNG layer on to the bone layer. Then your PNG file is attached to the Bone and then you can Bind the bones to your PNG file.

      Hey man, thank you so much for getting back to me! After plenty of prayer and time spent trying different things I eventually found the reason nothing was sticking to my png file. I had to double-click on each png layer, click on the tab farthest to the right (image), then check the Warp using bone box. Then of course play around with the Bone strength a bit. It's working just fine now. Thank you again for responding and keep up the good work. God bless!

    Great tutorial, and i have a doubt. if we want to animate this pastel deer or any other like this painting, is it possible to turn front ? how we do this? is it possible in this type of manual painting? Thank you Sir...

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  8 лет назад +1

      +Sreekumar KP It is not possible to turn it around. You have to make a new painting of the turnaround. You could make a different setup of the deer by breaking it up in parts. Let's say you want the head of the deer to move towards the camera. You could either draw all the inbetween steps on paper and edit them in Photoshop and animate it with a switch layer. Or you could break up all the parts of the face. Like the basic shape of the head, eyes, nose, mouth ears and antlers on separate layers and animate the parts individually.

    Weet u toevallig of dit ook mogelijk is met Anime Studio Debut (11)? Want dit ziet er heel mooi uit en ik weet niet of ik Pro of Debut moet downloaden. Alvast bedankt!

      +Domino Pippa Goede vraag! Ik denk dat dit ook mogelijk is in Anime Studio Debut. De Bones zijn de basis van Anime Studio.

    Great tutorial! Maybe instead of erasing, use a mask, much better for corrections, especially those that you notice much later. Does it work with anime Studio? Also shadows etc. coming from Photoshop?

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  9 лет назад

      +Frank Thanks for the tip Frank, I don't think Anime Studio will export the masks or other effects. I have to check that. I will let you know. Do you work with Anime Studio?

    Fantastic video and great artist but I'm a bit confused
    I've watched a tutorial before where to animate an imported .PNG file you had to trace the image first. But in this video, he just imports the image and starts adding bones and animating without having to trace. Do you know longer have to trace the image?

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  9 лет назад +1

      +leftyfourguns You don't have to trace your PNG. You just need to have a large size PNG, then when you zoom in with the camera your rendered PNGwon't get pixelated. If you vectorize your PNG you have more option to animate your character with the vector points. What I like about animating original illustrations is the different styles you can work in.

    • @leftyfourguns
      @leftyfourguns 9 лет назад

      +Stayf Draws Thank you! I didn't know that. So I want to make the PNGs' resolution as large as possible?

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  9 лет назад

      Not too large, otherwise your files will be too big. Just make them as big as you want to zoom them in. If you are working in HD 1920X 1080 I make you characters at least 2100 pixels tall.

    Hoi, ik ben een beginneling, met Moho 12 aan de slag (vroeger op Amiga kleine 2d-animaties gemaakt) wil animaties maken opnieuw leren en probeer daarom een animatie te maken van iemands tekeningen. Ik heb net een video van je bekeken, leuk! Ik heb ook getekende dieren in Photoshop, geimporteerd in Moho 12 en nu probeer ik een wat vloeiende beweging met koppies/hoofdjes van links naar rechts te maken (met sequencer), maar dat gaat nog wat schokkerig, heb je wellicht tips? Ik heb de koppies/hoofdjes in 5 verschillende standen, van links, naar midden en naar rechts kijken in verschillende lagen psd opgeslagen. Groet, Miranda Vos

      Daarvoor kan je het beste de Switch Layer gebruiken. In deze video leg ik daar meer over uit : ruclips.net/video/BoL_KQCxEjA/видео.htmlm5s
