Nurses get fired for reasons not on this list. Women nurses can be vile and jealous and fire nurses for those reasons under the guise of “under performing”. I once heard a nurse director say “no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes-even the best, so if you want to write someone up, you can always find something and just hype it up.” And she was a woman of her word. She made many nurses quit, she called a nurse into work who was receiving chemotherapy and threatened her job if she didn’t come right then and never allowed her to complete her training but held her to a veteran standard. Wrote her up constantly. The nurse died 8 months into the job. The abuse was relentless. That’s just one example of her vitriol. This happens a lot in corporate nursing and case management/utilization review. It’s bad. If you speak up for a colleague, you’re on the chopping block too.

It happens in the hospital. There is a lack of support now and it’s rampant. It’s worse than it was 20 years ago.

Sounds worse than Nurse Ratched and Nurse Diesel combined! Your story unfortunately is not the only one. With a manager like that they're not too many options other than to transfer or quit.

That is heartbreaking. May that innocent nurse rest in peace...we have some truly wicked people in this world. Makes me sick to my stomach!

Want to know why Healthcare is so expensive. Nurses have become glorified secretaries, they now have many other levels of employees to do the grunt work. Some hospitals even have a concierge to do their grocery shopping . Like interns, nurses should have to spend a year with EMS services before they start pounding checks for simply following the directions of a doctor. Might even save a few more lives that way, if that is even the goal nowadays.
