@@Barneycl cheers mate,it got my head scratching but got there in the end. Always nice when you finally find the issue after a good few hrs of investigation 👍
@@johnnyrvf luckily this didn’t need an igniter box but it still took a bit of finding trying to trace why there was no voltage where there should be. One thing I notice with the older stuff like this is the weight of the bike is so much compared to modern race bikes. I couldn’t imagine wrestling this around a race track
@@jbsworkshop The VF 1000 R was a strange beast. I think it was Wayne Gardner who tried to race one for Honda and reckoned it handled like a marshmallow. Due to a truck reversing over mine, I ended putting the engine and various other parts into the chassis of a VF 750 F in 1990. By then the world and Honda had moved on and although it fooled a few bikes off the line, it was so completely out classed by Honda's own RC30 that it felt as if it was from the same age as the old CB 750/4!
@ just pushing it around the workshop I can tell it’s a very heavy bike & it feels long so never going to handle that well. It’s just nice to have something that old that is in such condition compared to some 10/15year old bikes I work on
@@jbsworkshopI made mine Honda reliable with a very simple oiling modification. Basically there is a cast in boss into the main oil feed gallery under the R/H side of the motor out side of the clutch cover joint. HRC in the U.S.A drilled and tapped this and fed the top end from here giving the cams clean oil rather than the stock take off from the g/box. I never had any top end issues after that. The reason the igniter boxes went down was because I cut down the rear mudguard and rain and electricity don't mix!
@@jbsworkshop Finding somewhere willing to work on older bikes is getting harder and harder to find. Some dealers dont want to work on anything 10 years or older. My Yamaha is only 10 years old and some OEM parts are no longer available.
@ I generally don’t work on many carb bikes any more, not due to not being able to but mainly due to customers not realising how much time it takes to do carb set-ups etc & they just don’t want to pay. If they are willing to pay the going rate I will do them👍
@@jbsworkshop My knowledge of carbs from 50 years ago helped me get my snow blower running last week. I had Triumphs, Beezers and Nortons in the U.K in the 70's.

I would say most tech’s in the last 10years wouldn’t have a clue how to diagnose & fix carb issues,it’s a shame
Glorious old school work John, and great result, kinda satisfying when it all comes right aye..!
@@Moonfleet41 yes electrical diagnostics isn’t my strongest point but satisfying when it all comes together 👍
A humble bloke
Better at diagnostics than he lets on
Cheers,I do always try my best
That's really cool and great sharing bro. Absolutely awesome content. Keep it up and have a great day ahead brother.

Wonder who had a quick look 🤔😂 good video mate I would have been there all day scratching my head and still not found the fault 👍 best mechanic I know

I owned one of these 30 years ago. Went through a couple of Igniter boxes. The VF 1000 F box has a lower rev limit than the 1000 R box.

They sold lots of the 500 and 750 Interceptors here in Canada in the 70's.
