    The OcuSync 2.0 in the Mini 2 is still untouchable amongst these drones. That's the difference maker.

    • @WW5RM
      @WW5RM 3 года назад +4

      The range exceeds the battery though. So what's the point? Better range in high interference?

    • @justinasnalivaika7881
      @justinasnalivaika7881 3 года назад +8

      @@WW5RM The OcuSync 2.0 has not just better range, but also better signal strenght, you don't want to flight drone like that more than 2 km one way or another.

    • @WW5RM
      @WW5RM 3 года назад +1

      @@justinasnalivaika7881 im a Ham Radio operator I fully understand signal strength and break ups .....etc. If you are making a video I can see that it would raise the footage quality on the phone. But you have it recorded to the SD card.
      The Mavic Mini has 4k range. Or is suppose to. That distance is close to max distance and still have enough battery to return.
      So explain to me you comment about 2km? Im not getting your point.
      But I say again. If its recorded to the SD card what does it matter if you even have a full drop out on the phone? Its a GPS Drone! It comes home!

    • @keithstewart7514
      @keithstewart7514 3 года назад +1

      Occusync 2 has zero lag or video clips even when it thousands of feet out. Just because its a gps drone that can return to home, its not an excuse to fly beyond the pilots ability to fly safely...

    • @WW5RM
      @WW5RM 3 года назад +4

      @@keithstewart7514 by the standard of "safely" / safety we are not supposed to fly beyond VLOS. So by that standard what do we even need a GPS for? Why put a GPS on a drone? Also In the USA flying FPV is technically illegal. So tell me again why anyone needs Ocusync? Or a GPS Drone?
      Ocusync is pointless from a "safety" point of view! Its pointless from the battery range. Its pointless because the best quality footage is on the SD card. If you can't fly due to slight break ups, lag or poor image quality you aren't much of a pilot! Plus if you are flying where a run away drone puts anyone at risk then you are flying in the wrong place!
      Flying safely is all our responsibilities! At a certain degree looking at drones from a "safety" perspective none of them are! Neither are automobiles! Having a GPS with firmware that follows a safe path home does help ensure everyone's safety. But nothing is failsafe! Nothing in life is guaranteed!

    No one has cracked the code to DJI's incredible flight control stability; optical flow, ultrasonic, even TOF In the Fimi X8 Mini (Time of Flight) - they all fall short of that rock solid positioning at hover. DJI had a head start, but I was shocked how far behind the competition is. DJI needs to be challenged - it will benefit the entire community, even those who only buy DJI products. Would iPhone be what it is without Samsung? I sincerely doubt it.

      These days changing the cell phone game is largely from the Chinese manufacturers of anything.... of course they dominate the drone space too.
      I too would love to see more competition...

    The mini I got is amazing. Watched repair videos if I have to fix it. The flight performance with the mini is amazing. Ability to adjust camera settings, ability to use apps to fly it, and download flight performance data with Airdata UAV, Dronelink to fly preplanned route,or Litchie as an alternative. And that's the mini.Don't need phone service even. You can fly the mini with a compatible phone and wifi. For cost conscious shoppers, you can't do better than the mini. I'm wanting a mini 2 for range. And which of the others has Occusync 2.0 ? Not a one. Thank you for the video.

    I appreciate that you guys have taken the time to compare each of the mini drones. I want a mini drone, so I like that I can see the options without an blatant DJI bias. The $5.00 registration fee for hobby flyers isn't too big of a deal. A one time payment of $5.00 will cover all of the drones in the fleet. For Part 107 Flyers being under 250g doesn't matter, every drone has to be registered and labeled if it is going to a part of any Part 107 operations and each sUAS in the fleet will cost another $5.00.

During a sporty flight, the gimbal fails and even the app crashes several times... If anything, I would advise zino, but no other system achieves the stability of dji.

    Great review! I have been hesitant to pull the trigger on the Fimi because of the horizon issue on my 2020 and 2018 X8 SE's and its still seems to be an issue with the Mini. ADK Drones has tested a pre-release firmware update for the X8 SE 2020 that seems to have corrected it. I guess we will see. As for the Hubsan I am also in a wait and see pattern. First. Can they actually deliver what they claim spec wise under 250g? Second. Can they actually deliver on the date they have chosen? Third. Will it all work as claimed? Based on their past examples we may have a few firmware updates before everything works as promised. And for the love of all that is Holy I hope they are using better batteries.

I know it wont be as good to fly, and don't have the range, etc. But the DJI controller is 13.8oz . As an ultralight backpacker I spent $$$ to shave that much weight off of my tent. Every oz counts. Plus that's one less thing to worry about breaking/packing/getting wet. Honestly if they added wifi to the mini 2 I would already own one.

Yes they will dodge the requirement if only flown for recreational purposes, however if you fly one while conducting any part 107 ops they too are absolutely required to register and broadcast remote id as all commercial ops, regardless of platform, are subject to registration and remote id 👍..but very thorough information on those 2 mini platforms! I just wanted to add in some commentary:
    1) Fimi Mini Price = DJI Mini 2??? Hmm....not really. I say that because Fimi (and their resellers) are constantly having sales on the Fimi Mini. For example today on AliExpress the price was $366 and since the initial launch price of $319 I've seen it on sale for less than $400 most of the time. So the $459 price for the Fimi Mini is largely a price on paper. And at today's price of $366 that's a substantial discount over the DJI Mini 2 price...once you account for that price differential and the differences in taxes. And for some that price differential may be a key factor for purchasing it. And DJI very rarely (maybe once a year) does sales for their products..and even when they do it's frequently a discount on an complementary add-on product (e.g., discount on DJI CareRefresh, etc.) rather than the drone itself.
    2) You ask why did Fimi ship initially with the drone with the Standard Battery (thus causing it to be >250grams)? Because the LiPo was not ready at the time when the drone was available to ship. The Pro battery won't be available until mid-June so Fimi had the choice of just having he Mini sit on the shelf for a month+ waiting until the Lipo battery was available or begin shipping with the Standard battery knowing that customer could always purchase the Pro battery if they needed the drone to be under 250grams. Yes I agree it would have been better if the Pro Battery had been available a month earlier at initial shipment of the drone but it wasn't I'm sure for good reasons. I really don't think it was lost on Fimi that the

    • @HalfChrome
      @HalfChrome  3 года назад

      I agree with you on point #3. However I think it's still too close in price and it's likely a placeholder for the "Pro" price. I still don't understand why they didn't bother to design the standard at 250 grams with the standard battery. I still think that is poor design/planning.

    • @jetmartin9501
      @jetmartin9501 3 года назад

      @@HalfChrome You do realize that there is no Pro Fimi Mini, right? There is only a Pro battery (LiPo) and a Standard Battery..other than that the drone is exactly the same. If you want it to be under 250grams you simply buy it with the Lipo Pro Battery.
      Regarding why they didn't design it to be under 250g with the Standard battery...I guess I just don't subscribe to the theory of incompetence or poor planning. I suspect there is a lot more to this story then some of us know. Having spent many years in electronics and manufacturing I've experienced many examples of Murphy's law and what may appear to be a strange decision from the outside may just a plan "B" response to an unavoidable reality (e.g., supplier fails to deliver a component on time...say a LiPo battery...so you have to scramble to find a less than ideal backup alternative..say a LiIon battery because that can be produced much more quickly and certified more easily because it relies on off-the-shelf 18650 batteries....even if it does put you slightly over the 250g limit...as a random example. 😉).

      Have bought some drone stuff off Ebay and been very pleased. Some FPV equipment and a phantom 4pro. Couldn't beat the $, and most I see going used are low time units that probably spent most of their life in a closet. Worth a look!
      Also look at the entry FPV kits. While I really enjoy flying my photography drones, racing around a course inside the house is an absolute blast. Also will encourage an understanding of electrical components.

    Have you ever skeletonized a drone case to reduce weight by 20% or so? Leave enough for structural integrity. It does open up to contamination and huge increase in drag, but lots of extra plastic that can be removed from legs, arms, body, battery case, etc.

    For me I don't like the idea of having to register what amounts to a damn toy. Thats why I almost bought a traxxas had it not been for the mini 2. I love flying this drone. It works so well. I can see room for improvements if they were to make a 3rd version but otherwise I love it. Next rc will be an xmaxx or trx6. Only way I'd part with the mini 2 is if they make a mini 3. Then I might consider trading up.

      A tiny drone is hard to see from an actual airplane. But they could still do some damage. Sure, you could get away with not registering. But the whole point isn't to control you but to ensure you know the bare minimum to fly safely. It doesn't control you in the slightest. You can still fly like an idiot after getting a drone registered. If you are immoral and want to dodge accountability if your drone crashes into someone or their property, don't register. The FAA isn't eyeballing everyone flying drones. But they do tend to show up for serious injury or property damage claims.

    To be clear there is no "Pro verion/standard version drone" - confusing as it is, only the BATTERY is pro/standard. The pro battery fits and works in the shipping model. I know because my replacement just arrived with a pro battery - Fimi compensates for user shipping costs with batteries. Fortunately they cross-shipped a replacement to me when a minor crash killed the GPS module on mine.

  • @curlymaplebandit1363
    @curlymaplebandit1363 3 года назад +1

    If your drone is under 250 grams and you use the video or photos for the "furtherance of a business", then it indeed must be registered for commercial flight.
    When registering look close there are 2 choices, recreational and commercial! I almost hit the wrong one.
    Under 250 you aren't required to register for "recreational flight". Also takeoff weight must be UNDER 250grams, so, 249 ok not 250... adding landing gear basket or prop guards to the mini immediately bring it over 250 grams.

Nevertheless, I do like the DJI mini 2 for it's stability and the camera (I do like the shots of it a bit better), but the lack of a trace feature is a deal breaker for me.
