I pulled the trigger last week on the Fimi x8 mini version 2. It was under USD 300 and with an extra pro battery plus case, landing skids, and more spare props...all in the purchase was still under 375 dollars. My experiences with Xiaomi products have been positive...X8SE version 2019, 4k hand held action can with gimbal, and two escooters. Never had issues with Xiaomi products.
I was disappointed that you didn’t test it with manual settings. I noticed that sometimes some of the footage was over exposed and sometimes it was under exposed and that has nothing to do with whether or not the camera is better or not but it has to do with the fact that the sensors are trying to compensate when you have it on auto mode…. You should always compare cameras in manual mode with the same exact settings, because that’s the only way you can truly test the sensor capabilities. I could grab a $5k camera and putting Auto mode on a bright sky (like you had it in this test) and it would do worse than a $200 camera if I have a $200 camera in manual proper settings. There’s a reason why the settings exist because they will make the worse camera look better without them … and make the best camera look worse.. You basically didn’t allow the cameras to have an apple to Apple’s comparison.
Last month I did not know what to buy either the mini Hudsan or mini 2 but by watching all of the Hubsan zino mini pro videos and watching very carefully I decided to choose Dji all the way man, now I'm glad that I'm flying my mini 2 and selling my mavic mini to buy the nano evo
Nice review...FWIW, I generally agree with your assessment. However, personally speaking I would not recommend the Mini SE if you fly a lot in urban areas ( around houses, neighborhoods, etc) simply because of it's WiFi transmission system. I owned the Mini 1 (which has the same Wifi transmission system) and I was constantly getting disconnects when flying in an urban environment even when flying at a fair height over houses. While I don't always need to fly longer distances it's nice to be able to do so when I need to without getting the hassle of video transmission break up and/or lost video transmission. So for those that plan to fly in Urban areas I'd steer clear of the Mini SE and I'd recommend the Mini2 or Hubsan Zino Mini Pro (even if you have to save up a bit more money to purchase it)...both seem to have strong transmission systems and I think that's incredibly important. If you need a Mini drone now and you value features like Obstacle Avoidance, Auto Tracking and Waypoint features (and I do) and you want longer t flight times (> 30mins) then I'd recommend the Hubsan Zino Mini Pro. Hubsan has already addressed quite a few issues since they released it and I fully expect that they'll continue to make it better over time....that's been their history. If you want a Mini with the best video/picture quality and you don't care about all the other features then the DJI Mini 2 is the way to go. IMHO. It's such a shame that DJI refuses to release a SDK for the Mini 2 (when it exist on the Mini 1) to allow third party software companies like Litchi and DroneLink to offer their Waypoint functionality and tracking Auto tracking features. Sigh.
My mavic air 2 had a horrible camera full of noise and to compensate dji added noise reduction and to compensate for this over sharpened the image until it was a hot smeared mess with no fine detail.

Nice job with the video comparisons! On 7:30 of the video, I noticed that the hubsan has a more detail video resolution. only the hubsan clearly shows the line in the white dome type roof of that tower😄👍
This is my opinion the Dji product it’s the way to go especially if you’re going to sell it used the value it’s really good basically almost get your money back if you do sell it!!! But other drones different brands not really there is no value at all!!!!
Thanks for the review. Just curious, when drawing a selection box for active follow mode, would it not help to keep the box small and limited to the object that will be moving? Surely selecting a whole load of asphalt too will confuse the system. It'll be trying to track you and a stationary surface. Has anyone experimented with this? Cheers. :)
That's exactly right. Obstacle avoidance are great for beginners from what i have seen. After you get good, most people turn it off. Of course, if the zino improves with software and there are good deals then it's a great option for beginners.
The zino mini, you need to make a much smaller square around yourself and with those drones they track very good but you have to stand out a good amount from the environment around you
Jack, suggestion....I'd like to see a in depth comparison of the video capabilities of the HZMP vs DM2 (including low light comparison).....side by side video comparisons in different conditions but flown at the same time, same place, etc. Maybe a good thing to team up with Chris? on. I think people would like to see this type of in depth comparison. The HZMP camera has some pretty impressive specs but how does it stack up in reality. Inquiring minds want to know 😀
I like your review, it's very unbiased. Though I do think you should try to take the images around the same time especially during the time there is full sun vs no sun at all. I feel like the Zino is just not ready for prime time. Also when the Zino mini Pro was doing active tracking, why is the image quality so bad? It looked like it was in 480p haha.
@@MikeHammer1 yes I have one I’ve tried switching between 2.4 and 5.8 ghz and still not a noticeable difference. I have yet to test it in a flat area with no trees or buildings. But so far not impressed but the good news is they are cheap so it’s not like your out a ton of money and it might work in your situation.
@@Stotz360 FYI, Yagi's are tuned for a specific frequency. One tuned for 2.4 will not necessarily work well at 5.8 even though the frequency is a multiple.
Great straight to the point review Jack . I know the dji mini se is the best deal, but the fimi x8 mini has so good many features, and an occasional crazy gimbal but a very accurate landing . Have you noticed that the Hubsan and Fimi logos are quite similar?
After 7 years of doing this, toys, and even the professional sizes, and one Matrice training session, I don't see registrations issue at all. I even registered one below 250 to see what ever comes out of it. Nothing. Registration is no big deal at all. Registered them all just for kicks. I've had toys, mid grade like Protech and all those, and professional drones. What really matters is that 107 coverage if your business oriented. And the rules that you must follow. Now that the registration slewing is out for a bit, I just don't get the need to market below 250 grams. I've discussed this with our CDO in the area, and it's just MEH now. They all see that need for the line, as well as I do, but with a flooded market of drones now just confuses the new starter out there.
I guess all the video right, except found the DJI pair indistinguishable, in spite of different resolutions. I go by color in a quick glance. Didn't need to cheat since you gave examples directly before 😆
I would go for the Hubsan, if it would accept memory cards. But without sdcard, this is a nogo. Maybe just wait for the DJI mini 3 to get the Hubsan features....
I think you drew a too big of a box on the Hubsan for active tracking and drone was looking for other things around you (road and green on a certain position that changed when you crossed the corner)...
Do you think i should buy fimi x8 mini or dji mini SE? Their pricing are kinda the same in my country. The fimi mini has better camera quality but its not much variety of nd filters unlike dji mini SE. So it makes me kinda hard to decide
The thumbnail has a Federal Signal 2001-130 siren in it lmfao. Great drone review btw, I was wondering which one of those is better. Since the mini 2 came out, I do think the SE is pretty much nothing compared to it, but I would say I like it better compared to the other drones
If it’s normal weight is 249 almost 250 means it’s not a sub 250 at least not in the UK we go by the maximum take off mass which would be over 250g easily for example mini 2 actual weight is 239 but max take off mass if you were to add accessories it’s max take of mass would be 249g
Wow great comparison video! Love the obstacle avoidance, but too many glitches makes the Zino a no go right now unless I had money to throw around which will never happen. If Hubsan would clear everything up, I would get it hands down over DJI. But I can see DJI coming out with a new one to compete with obstacle avoidance possibly.
I've had the mini 3 for like 4 months and I'm impressed by it everytime I use it. I can't see me needing anything more. Yes active track would be cool but I don't film myself so its not needed, and if I'm filming somebody else like say my daughter on her motorcycle I use my nazgul
@Gilmore Gibson Thanks for the info... I'm going to purchase one. Have you flown the mini 3 pro yet? I recommend you buy you one... you won't regret it!
Weird, when the videos were full size I thought the Fimi had the worst video, but side by side and shrunk down I thought it looked best, I think it was because there was more detail in the sky.
I really like your comparative review. For me living in a small island in the middle of the Caribbean the most important is a drone without restrictions or NFZ because the runway of the Airport cover over 50% of the island
I just can not believe the most expensive drone out of the 4 in 2021 and the Hubsan still uses micro USB... really!! DJI mini 2 all day long, although I do think the Mini SE is fantastic value for money.
I do like the hubsan brand. Mainly because my first toy quad was a x4. That said I don't think there are many professionals trading in their mini 2 for a hubsan.. just saying
I just bought my first drone, and decided on the Mini 2, I originally purchased the Mini SE but Amazon screwed up and after I placed the order, they decided it was a month out. DJI is just too reliable to go with anything else
You did a good job here. I agree DJI appears to put out drones with features and flight characteristics that always work well. Strangely, I own others, not DJI because my first attempt to use the DJI mini SE went badly. They never explained the requirements for an Android phone and I couldn't get the darn controller to connect to my phone, or even the replacement phone I bought using their hard to find guidance. If you put out drones in this class you are targeting rookies on a budget like me, so why didn't DJI educate me about the phone performance requirements before the sale? I would have studied them. (Really, I would have!)
@@HalfChrome thanks. After research today it turns out that Google has dropped DJI Fly from it's Apps available. So the version I had from flying my old Mavic Mini is now not upgradeable. Nor am I able to download the App again as it's discontinued. Now stuck with a brand new drone that can't be flown without purchasing an iPhone. 👌
This drone let us know that DJI was lazy when they upgrade the mini series. I heard the Autel will show it’s DJI air and mini class drone on an air show a week later.
Hey anything that's not supporting the C cP sadly that leaves dj 👁️ out of my personal choices, makes deciding much easier 🇺🇲. Fimi, still China quad but not the same as previously mentioned happenings.
One other point, people pay big money for larger drones with the same features. To play them down because the DJI Mini drones don't have them is ridiculous. Just saying.
A seldomly mentioned point between all these drones, collision avoidance, range etc all pretty good especially if you don't need to fly to the moon. That big overbearing brother aspect of the djay👁️ causing no takeoff, forced landings and other major pains in the a, can't also forget giving out your personal information to every Tom, Richard and Harry who wants it, all standard with the dJay👁️. Those things along sadly force me on principal alone to buy the overseas options for better performance and privacy, ironically.
I'm always surprised the drone manufacturers don't do some form of sensor fusion with GPS active track. Even if it's just a simple hand off with tracking lost.
DJI will continue to lose sales to the likes of the Zino Mini and Fimi Mini and some decent budget drones as long as its Minis don't offer popular features such as Follow Me modes. I would buy a Mini SE if it provided Follow Me modes. Unless something new hits the market soon, I will probably buy the Fimi Mini just for the Follow Me features.
I just got the Fimi mini and was pleasantly surprised by the follow me mode. It worked quite well around my neighborhood, following me around corners and down streets, but you really have to watch out for obstacles... My only gripe about the DJI products is the NFZ problem. Cant take off in my own back yard. Almost no place in the city here where you arent within 5 miles of an airstrip... My new Fimi, just doesnt care!
I think taking into account that the summer season is almost over, we should rather wait a couple of months for a Mini 3 which certainly will be more expensive, but it will have all the missing features.
i am looking for a good drone, with follow me, orbit etc ... But, I am sure everyone is bombarded with all the advertising from SkyQuad .. AeroQuad , whatever they rename them selves as .. etc ... From my research it is a scam .. but I would love to hear commentary from your side ... I had a cheap Chinese drone which I enjoyed from a flying perspective .. but want more .. Advice required on an alternate would be appreciated .. I am not in the DJI range ... But maybe I can push it ...
@@HalfChrome Thank you for that .. and I love your channel .. The sky aero quads do seem too good to be true .. But I'm eager to get myself on a drone ASAP .. DJI may be out of my price range .. So may look at the Bugs .. Thanks again ..
The hubsan has the best camera quality hands down followed by the fimi they both had better dynamic range and the sky wasn't blown out. Having owned the mavic air 2 I would never buy another dji drone ever again the camera was shit. Even in broad daylight and with proper exposure there was noise all through the image and low detail it was a smeared mess. Then it lost control and crashed.
Are you sure about that, the dji mini and dji mini 2 have different motors? So the mini 2 has bigger(stronger motors) so that u say hardware s the same is a big lie?
Моторы обсалютно те же, сменили винты, они стали твёрже..., Даже камера осталось прежней, только в мини 1 она не снимает 4к, а тут вдруг стала снимать... Вообще все кроме передачека и светодиода в мини 1 и 2 идентично...
Great video but only the camera on the DJI MINI 2 is better than the other drones. DJI has been at it longer but lacks in flight options which does make a difference. Instead of making excuses for DJI, tell the truth. They should be able to offer these options and because they don't they are falling behind. Call a spade a spade and don't make excuses for DJI's short comings.
Indeed , they already have 3 minis out but still couldnt provide us with some of these drones features . They do that because they can delay as they don't have any competition on the mini drone market but now it's a different story i guess . We'll see how the mini 3 will be
@@rpguy4 The mini's are being saved by reviewers. They couldn't sell their more expensive drones if they didn't have the options they have. Those options aren't much better than the ones on the Fimi Mini or the Zino Mini. The DJI Mini drones are definitely not as great as advertised.
I'm confused by drones the more I look into it the more I feel like the price tag is based on camera... Yet my cell phone weight is less then most drones but take better photos. So why not strap even a cheap better camera cell phone to a cheap drone for a better video. Cause hey the camera on drone in my eyes is just to see where your going not good quality videos. So what's the point of a 500/600 (plus taxes) dollar drone if I can buy a 200 dollar drone and in my case a 200 dollar phone with the same effect. And as of 2022 April 29 these drones are over 700 cause no stores have them. Kinda weird
@@HalfChrome fair enough but not $1000 I have the Motorola stylus g that takes 48 mp video and even better pics for $250 that's light not even including my 360 at 5.7k 100fps. Idk I'm a novice but a poor novice interested in just having a different perspective in my videos so there has to be a better way to do this right? And my 360 itself is stabilized not including davinci resolve editing. I feel as if most main line drones are over priced if your determined on a budget and goal of am I wrong? Thank you for the channel and response btw
They are expensive for sure. But a good drone with a good camera can take pictures that can’t be gotten any other way. Cell phone cameras are great but they can’t compete with a 1” sensor on a gimbal.
Hubsan is making a big reach. Just not sure it warrants the asking price, until Hubsan gets the bugs out. So.. a year, lol? Fimi falls shy of the target. Let's see if Autel has a real product in the next few months. Autel will charge too much, we know that at least 😆
Transmission speed is ALWAYS megaBITS (Mbs) per second NOT megaBYTES (MBs) per second. 1 byte = 8 bits. Please don't continue telling the transmit is in BYTES than BITS.
it looks like the mini se is the best solution for flying for the fun of flying. Yes there is a camera but who wants to sit around watching junior's 30 minute long home videos? Yup, entertaining for about 30 seconds only if there is a spectacular crash and burn. : )
@@owascoshaw DJI includes every possible flight restriction in their app. This means if you are 5 miles from an airport you will need to go to a computer, log onto their fly safe website and ask if you can fly. Then after several minutes of begging, logging onto various apps and two factor verifications, maybe you'll be allowed to fly. Maybe. If not, your drone won't go more the 2 feet off the ground, beep at you then land. As a point of reference, airplanes are not supposed to fly below 500 feet at anytime. Drones are not supposed to fly more than 400 feet. But because small airplanes don't give a crap about the rules, us drone pilots have to take extra precautions. And every year the restrictions get harder and harder to overcome. And DJI kowtows to the the FAA like a little b!tch. So good luck flying when and where you want. Why isnt the hubsan zino mini se (non pro version) in this list?
Because it didn’t exist yet
Hey bud, it's not often I get to be first. Love your vids, cheers.
Thanks.
MB = Megabytes, Mb = Megabits. BTW, you can add a Yagi/Parabolic antenna to the Mini SE (less than $15 on Amazon) and nearly double the range.
А смысл? Тогда проще купить мини 2 и не думать о дальности
The Yagis don’t work little to no difference on the mini…..
@@Stotz360 Do you speak from experience? I have seen RUclips videos that say otherwise, but perhaps they were playing loose with the truth.
One of the best reviews! Including a charter! (A picture is worth a thousand words).👍
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Mini 2 has 243g. Air 2 is old? How old are sou?
Great review.. Stalking mode at 11:20
Thanks
Awesome video man.good job. What ya got on the swan k1 pro?
Im a Hubsan homer you're a DJI homer. We're both good 😃
Anyone know if a DJI Mini 3 is coming out anytime before Christmas?
It is not.
I think you drew a too big of a box on the Hubsan for active tracking and drone was looking for other things around you (road and green on a certain position that changed when you crossed the corner)...
can you make he drone move in front of you and photograph what you are seeing?
I enjoyed your content.
Thanks. I enjoyed your comment
Do you think i should buy fimi x8 mini or dji mini SE? Their pricing are kinda the same in my country. The fimi mini has better camera quality but its not much variety of nd filters unlike dji mini SE. So it makes me kinda hard to decide
I’d go SE
dont forget about the autel mini , captain drone posted in his story an autel mini
The thumbnail has a Federal Signal 2001-130 siren in it lmfao. Great drone review btw, I was wondering which one of those is better. Since the mini 2 came out, I do think the SE is pretty much nothing compared to it, but I would say I like it better compared to the other drones
is hubsan zino mini pro resolve there problem?
It’s better but not great
i have a dji mini and for me its enough ,,just have to becareful where i fly it ..away from trees and building but it makes great pics and videos
Cant wait for the autel evo nano! How they will be compared to these little ones
Well done , I have all 3 DJI Mini dronez, I agree the Sink mini pro could be better lol
Has hubsan made their drone better now?
@@dosomestuff1949 no idea
@@DougEfresh. oh. I meant like did they make their mini pro better with updates
Maybe a little but I wouldn’t trust it still
@@HalfChrome oh well I got the mini se anyway
I've had the mini 3 for like 4 months and I'm impressed by it everytime I use it. I can't see me needing anything more. Yes active track would be cool but I don't film myself so its not needed, and if I'm filming somebody else like say my daughter on her motorcycle I use my nazgul
There's no better drone than the DJI Mini 2. Honestly, it's pound for pound the best drone on the market... big or small.
Truth I bought one and love it
You should check out the new fimi x8se v2 2022 that came out
@Gilmore Gibson Thanks for the info...
If the hardware on the mini 2 and mini se are the same, why is the top speed different?
That is an angle limitation
Hubzan Pro looks the best picture 📸.
That said I don't think there are many professionals trading in their mini 2 for a hubsan.. just saying
Too bad you didn't simulate the same for Hubsan active track. Like you did with Xiaomi. It would've been a better comparison.
Wonderful drone. Good Job.
Like the fimi natural color
That would explain why the Mini SE I bought yesterday won't connect to my Android phone. Tips? Aside from a new phone of course.
You could find a tablet or an old used phone that is compatible
@@HalfChrome thanks. After research today it turns out that Google has dropped DJI Fly from it's Apps available. So the version I had from flying my old Mavic Mini is now not upgradeable. Nor am I able to download the App again as it's discontinued. Now stuck with a brand new drone that can't be flown without purchasing an iPhone. 👌
This drone let us know that DJI was lazy when they upgrade the mini series. I heard the Autel will show it’s DJI air and mini class drone on an air show a week later.
I'm waiting for your EVO Mini review.
Me too…
so which one is better? Dji mini 2 or Fimi x8 mini Or zino mini pro????
I’d go with the mini 2
@@HalfChrome between mini se and fimi x8 mini, which one would you choose? And why
Se. More reliable.
Hey anything that's not supporting the C cP sadly that leaves dj 👁️ out of my personal choices, makes deciding much easier 🇺🇲. Fimi, still China quad but not the same as previously mentioned happenings.
The DJI SE looks very good.
My Fimi Mini just do not link when it is cold (< 5 Celcius)
The fimi mini is awesome especially with a new firmware update
This review is very detailed. Although, I wish you included the Hubsan Zino Mini Se.
Great video, but as we know, DJI mini 3 will come and he will still take two steps again. :)
Really good review of the
Probably. Autel has already produced a higher quality mini. DJI will follow
Not gonna thank the FAA or CAA for a darn thing... If they could, they would simply ban civilian drones from the sky.
100Mbit not Megabyte
I'm always surprised the drone manufacturers don't do some form of sensor fusion with GPS active track. Even if it's just a simple hand off with tracking lost.
Awesome
Autel Evo nano+ is going to be a game changer.
Hopefully
10:50 i think the distance was too big
i am looking for a good drone, with follow me, orbit etc ...
A further note .. I am in South Africa and equipment is well over priced ..
Sky quad aero quad almost any cheesy ad is a scam
@@HalfChrome Thank you for that .. and I love your channel .. The sky aero quads do seem too good to be true .. But I'm eager to get myself on a drone ASAP .. DJI may be out of my price range .. So may look at the Bugs .. Thanks again ..
Love the bugs
We'll see how the mini 3 will be
Totally agree. DJI plays games with their flight options. You can do this, but you can't do that, etc.
Kinda weird
It’s the camera and the gimbal combined with the perspective you get from a drone. Sure. Strap your $1000 phone to a $200 drone. See what happens.
@@HalfChrome fair enough but not $1000 I have the Motorola stylus g that takes 48 mp video and even better pics for $250 that's light not even including my 360 at 5.7k 100fps. Idk drones are cool and bringing a professional taste to things is great but if I'm after stable/strong flight without worrying the price of the camera.... wouldn't that open up to even better drones in the future in a way my friend?
Now you get to add the Autel Nano to this review :D

it looks like the mini se is the best solution for flying for the fun of flying. Yes there is a camera but who wants to sit around watching junior's 30 minute long home videos? Yup, entertaining for about 30 seconds only if there is a spectacular crash and burn. : )
DJI flight restrictions. sucks the love right out of it.
What do you mean?
BTW I have been a licenced drone pilot since 2016 and have been hamstrung the whole time.🤨
@@charlestownsendfilms this is insane. For a beginner it seems like my first experience will be terrible
@@owascoshaw Your experience may vary depending on your location and intentions. But be prepared to run into some hassles that may make it difficult to fly.
