FIMI is really working hard to place itself as a budget friendly option to DJI and Autel. I think they are really getting there. I personally am interested in the V2 x8se full sized with obstacle avoidance. Camera wise it is probably a step below the Air 2S, but not by much. It also sells for around 700 with the extra batteries etc. They also seem to sell parts, so if like me you aren't afraid of wrenching on your own stuff, you can pretty much keep these drones flying without having to ship it back and forth.
Good quick review. You glossed over one of the strongest features of any Fimi, however, waypoint mode. You can program waypoint missions offline, which is really convenient, and you can set the drone to complete the mission in the event of loss of signal. You obviously have to use that feature with caution and good judgement, but it enables a whole host of options. Lastly, the big flaw in Fimi drones since they went over to Hi Silicon video processors is the variable frame rate video. In order to avoid stuttering in any edited video, you have to pass the raw video thru a time-consuming frame rate correction utility.
Budget drones have come a long way, it's nice to see advanced features that actually work as intended - but the video quality doesn't quite cut it for me.
This is going to be my first drone. One week left to have it at home. Price incredibly low (250 usd) for all this features I think is great. Excellent review and convinced me more :D
The biggest problem with Fimi is quality control and customer support. I have 2 Fimi drones, an X8 2020 SE and an X8 Mini - both arrived from the factory faulty. In the case of the X8 Mini it arrived faulty and the replacement drone was also faulty. When you first report a fault Fimi make you jump through hoops to prove the drone is faulty and it's all done by email so with timezones each interaction takes a minimum of 48 hrs. Then when they finally agree to replace the drone you have to return it at your expense and lie about the drone's value on the customs declaration which means if it gets lost you can't clainm the full value off the Postal service. They will offer you a free battery but only if you press them and one of the batteries I was sent was nearly 3 years old. With both of my drones it was nearly 4 months from order until I received a working drone. They also lie about the specifications of the Mini and Mini V2 - the published specs claim a JPG/DNG option - this is not available and the excessive jpg compression of the actual stills makes them virtually unusable. If you get one that works they're good flying drones but the video and stills are meh! I won't be buying anymore Fimis. And they still can't sort horizon tilt - come on guys!
I've never tried a fimi. It does sound like a nightmare and yes I know what you mean about the quality control aspect. I call it the made in China factor. It's not just drones, it's everything. From TVs to drones to RC cars and planes. Literally all electronics. Especially when its not a popular brand. I blame alot of the big American companies that sold out us, the consumer and the North American worker for record profits by sending all of our manufacturing jobs overseas. It happened with everything but electronics have suffered the most. Especially since for the last 30yrs we've known how much the worlds suffered from pollution of our air, seas and land yet has turned everything into disposable junk. Fighting us tooth and nail for even the right to repair. In the past you bought one of something and long as you maintained and had it repaired when needed it lasted indefinitely. Now everything is made so cheaply and if it isn't, it has built in obsolescence. Giving you 3 to 4yrs tops before they stop updating it and make the new updates incompatible. So even if by chance it still works you can't use it anyway. SAD...
@@peterlofstrom2460 DJI are incredibly overrated and have flight restrictions on way too many locations. They also have awful customer service, I honestly have no idea how they got as big as they did
This video still leaves me curious whether this or the Potensic Atom have better waypoint functionality. I've seen that points of interest can be focused on while traveling to a waypoint with the X8 vs the Potensic only allowing up and down Gimbal tilt while traveling between waypoints.
Most of the reviews are for small compact drones/quads. I’d love to see you review any larger quads that are cheaper than dji’s mid sizes…if they exist.

Thank you. Please note that the Walkera T210 is an entry level drone from the old days (it has days of old tech in it). You have to do a compass calibration prior to flights, it has minimal features and is similar to drones of yesterday. It could be an option if the price was better but when I look on Banggood it does look over priced.
I like the way that you tell stuff about it, but i would love to see all those modes in action. Me who`s looking to buy his first drone, i really want to see how it all works. Not just- "hey this does that and i`m not gonna show it to you." But still thank you for the video!
The answer is simple… you just have to go on RUclips and search for any FIMI video from Captain Drone. Every FIMI drone ever made has all the same flight features, thus in earlier videos of earlier FIMI models I’ve shown them all.
Hi Steve, class review again. Can you also do a review of the Walkera T210? It's also relatively cheap and specs are promising. Also nice features with different options for controls.
Does it have Geofencing? I'm looking for a mini drone without geofencing for my travels 4K would be nice but I could live with 1080P. I already have a Mini-2 but I don't want to hack it and have the FAA looking for me. Thanks, JJJ

I think I saw you review a Fimi X8 SE V2 and had to have one, wait did you see the pro model, has 360 aviodence and really cool way points and time lapse at night even in the rain and snow wow I have to have one. Really Really good video. When I fly I know how a bird feels, thanks Captain my order is in. Keep on flying.
Thanx for yet another great review! Main reason (for me) to buy this drone is NO GEOFENCING. For all other things, I'd use a DJI drone. I just wonder how good is the connection. In the city, can I go 300-500m?

I’m not the person to ask as buying a drone is based on YOUR needs, not mine. I will say that if you’re a total newbie, the POTENSIC ATOM will give you a better “newbie to the world of drones” experience.
I watch a lot of your reviews, but this is something i would consider buying. I was very disappointed when i took my mavic 3 to my wifes house, and found active track would not work on boats, only people and animals. From what you said, it seems like you could use active track with this on boats or vehicles, but you didn't test it on the boats i saw on the lake. Is that something you could try later? I didn't see any real map, like google maps or map box. Does it have a real map? Lack of obstacle avoidance is a minor problem. But I'm mainly interested in whether or not active track will work on boats. Great review as always. Also, does it have any geofencing or altitude limit? Not available on Amazon.
Fimi certainly has come a long way however, they are missing the basics. I saw a lot of colour shift when you were at the beach the sand went from yellow to red to green. Perhaps you had it in auto white balance and fixing it to sunny may have solved this if it has the ability to change white balance manually. Just an observation. Always love your reviews. I was in Ottawa a couple of weeks ago, beautiful city.
Hello. I like many aspects of this drone except for the fact that it doesn't have the avoidance feature. That feature is a must for me. But wait, should I compare the prices of this FIMI and a comparable model of the DJI with only the addition of the avoidance feature? Is there a large difference in the prices? Maybe I can't get a comparison between these two, since the DJI models probably have several other features in addition to the FIMI. If it can't be compared reasonably, we have to just forget about it. Sorry to bother you about it then.
I think it works ok with older drones like this. When you go on the FIMI website and look at the TX10A it tells you which drones it is compatible with.

Hmmm… I don’t believe I have tried that. It has been a long while since I’ve flown that drone. My only advice is to leave the drone folded with gimbal off, power it on and if it has a USB port, plug in a cable, and the other end into your computer & see if the drone shows up in your file manager.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 it does when I hook it up to my pc but canot see the SD card, only the fonder to update and the blackbox file wich is flight data for fimi to use in case of a problem...I wish to find a way without pluging and unpluging the usb wire or removing the sd card. So I just bought my first drone ever and I went with a high and drone EXO cinemaster pro 2 carbon fiber. You can look that up, it is Sweet and the carbon fiber makes it look Crazy. Check it out, that's what I did.

Just got this . Have had it at the park twice now. For some reason the only flight mode available is "offline way point". How to I get the other modes to work ?
Now this might be a weird question, but do any of these non dji drones have fpv modding capabilities? Would have loved to see these companies do something in the fpv world
FPV is an entirely separate hobby. DJI has tried to make a crossover drone (part MAVIC, part FPV) which is the AVATA. It is not a great MAVIC or FPV drone, because you can’t do both well, but overall it is a practical drone for many uses that owners really enjoy.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Well said. For me FPV is not about stunts or action sports videography but more of experiencing the thrill of flight without actually flying a real airplane. Ofcourse I get a similar experience out of MSFS in VR haha, but it would have been fun if we could somehow natively send the video feed from any regular drone receiver to a VR headset in side by side VR mode.
the mini v1 and the mini v2, how do you really tell them apart? its not that I would be suspicious of unscrupulous sellers putting fake 2023 stickers on old stock....
Half of the features you just hand wave that they aren't good or similar, you REALLY should just show them. That is what a review is about, you have the device! For example why show a manually stitched panorama, just show what the drone outputs. And with the "drifting flight" for example just show what it does, if you know it doesn't work well it means you have the footage.
Is the tracking feature on this or any of the mini drones good enough to reliably follow a border collie herding sheep? I want to set an elevation to avoid obstacles and then have the drone follow the dog during my herding lessons/while I am training.
Since you are asking such a question it means you have no knowledge of drones and are a true beginner. Total newbies to drones should go with the ATOM (and not the ATOM SE).
Can this track target vertically? Understand that this tracks target on the ground but i plan to use it for rock climbing activity, however im not sure if it would follow me upward. Hope you got an answer for this
Mine was giving me jello video so obviously i tried prop changes, nope. turns out its the gimbal, even its sat on the tarmac on its legs every so often the gimbal buzzes and shakes for 2-3 seconds. obviously another fimi quality feature.....
If I didn't already have X8 Mini first version, I'd be buying this one. For the money, pretty good I think. (and I was waiting for orange version but nope, I don't believe it exists)
Hi I have a question I have 2022 se model and ran the battery way down this afternoon and when i try to charge it doesn’t respond as normal, It is flashing in pars of two lights then shuts down , if they get to low can they brick? That was a good landing. Today was first time flying since eye surgery three weeks ago . Can you check with a multimeter?

I find that, for most of your excellent product reviews, the product can't be bought at all or has to be ordered from some shady chinese outfit. Hello Fellow Canuck. In Canada, you have to shed all your worries as I did about 15 years ago when I entered the RC hobby. If I want something cool, I order, just like the rest of the world, from China or other countries around the globe. Companies would not be in business and I would not speak about them if they were shady. For the year 2023 I am not reviewing RC Boats but may add them back in for 2024.
ya when i seen you posted the fimi x8 review i kinda rooled my eyes but its improved for sure would i buy it thats a big fat no cause i have all the DJI mini series including the mini 3 pro but honestly its ok drone it has a lot of features that DJI dont have but more chances to crash your drone in my opinion

Pity to see that Fimi still hasn't been able to get rid of that horizon tilt; something that all their quads have been plagued with.
I have a C-Fly Faith 2 Pro that' weights over 250grams. With all the crap with tracking going on I think this might be my next drone.

Probably depends on the city but I would say no problem. Even in town I m having no problem going well beyond those ranges.

It uses MAPS that appear to be something like Google Maps when you zoom out.

I think it works ok with older drones like this. When you go on the FIMI website and look at the TX10A it tells you which drones it is compatible with.
It uses the small camera at the bottom to find the landing pad!

Hmmm… I don’t believe I have tried that. It has been a long while since I’ve flown that drone. My only advice is to leave the drone folded with gimbal off, power it on and if it has a USB port, plug in a cable, and the other end into your computer & see if the drone shows up in your file manager.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 it does when I hook it up to my pc but canot see the SD card, only the fonder to update and the blackbox file wich is flight data for fimi to use in case of a problem...I wish to find a way without pluging and unpluging the usb wire or removing the sd card. So I just bought my first drone ever and I went with a high and drone EXO cinemaster pro 2 carbon fiber. You can look that up, it is Sweet and the carbon fiber makes it look Crazy. Check it out, that's what I did.
Hello captain drone excellent video, I have a comment I record at night but it doesn't record very well at night it records better at night the mini 2 it seems that it doesn't enters too much light on the camera at night, what do you think?
It is not designed to record good video at night

More features in the FIMI but the POTENSIC ATOM is specifically designed for beginners.

Now this might be a weird question, but do any of these non dji drones have fpv modding capabilities? Would have loved to see these companies do something in the fpv world
FPV is an entirely separate hobby. DJI has tried to make a crossover drone (part MAVIC, part FPV) which is the AVATA. It is not a great MAVIC or FPV drone, because you can’t do both well, but overall it is a practical drone for many uses that owners really enjoy.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Well said. For me FPV is not about stunts or action sports videography but more of experiencing the thrill of flight without actually flying a real airplane. Ofcourse I get a similar experience out of MSFS in VR haha, but it would have been fun if we could somehow natively send the video feed from any regular drone receiver to a VR headset in side by side VR mode.

Yes, but not with the Fimi App. You’d need a background streaming app that streams what is being displayed in your phone.

Half of the features you just hand wave that they aren't good or similar, you REALLY should just show them. That is what a review is about, you have the device!
For example why show a manually stitched panorama, just show what the drone outputs. And with the "drifting flight" for example just show what it does, if you know it doesn't work well it means you have the footage.
Is the tracking feature on this or any of the mini drones good enough to reliably follow a border collie herding sheep? I want to set an elevation to avoid obstacles and then have the drone follow the dog during my herding lessons/while I am training.
How far is the range FIMI mini v2 when using the wifi mode? Using only your smartphone? Few honderd meters? Certainly not the 9 KM i guess.
A cell phone and wifi... probably looking at a few hundred feet at best.

Since you are asking such a question it means you have no knowledge of drones and are a true beginner. Total newbies to drones should go with the ATOM (and not the ATOM SE).
Can this track target vertically? Understand that this tracks target on the ground but i plan to use it for rock climbing activity, however im not sure if it would follow me upward. Hope you got an answer for this
For rock climbing go with a DJI MINI 3 PRO or MINI 4 PRO. This is not a drone for rock climbers.
I quite like Fimi, I wouldn't buy one but I quite like them.
Mine was giving me jello video so obviously i tried prop changes, nope. turns out its the gimbal, even its sat on the tarmac on its legs every so often the gimbal buzzes and shakes for 2-3 seconds. obviously another fimi quality feature.....

Hi I have a question I have 2022 se model and ran the battery way down this afternoon and when i try to charge it doesn’t respond as normal, It is flashing in pars of two lights then shuts down , if they get to low can they brick? That was a good landing. Today was first time flying since eye surgery three weeks ago . Can you check with a multimeter?
If the battery is hot it won’t charge. Also if the battery voltage gets super low, it also won’t charge.
Captain, rcgoing is in hong kong and the amazon link does not lead to any fimi products. I find that, for most of your excellent product reviews, the product can't be bought at all or has to be ordered from some shady chinese outfit. Hello Fellow Canuck. In Canada, you have to shed all your worries as I did about 15 years ago when I entered the RC hobby. If I want something cool, I order, just like the rest of the world, from China or other countries around the globe. Companies would not be in business and I would not speak about them if they were shady. For the year 2023 I am not reviewing RC Boats but may add them back in for 2024.

ya when i seen you posted the fimi x8 review i kinda rooled my eyes but its improved for sure would i buy it thats a big fat no cause i have all the DJI mini series including the mini 3 pro but honestly its ok drone it has a lot of features that DJI dont have but more chances to crash your drone in my opinion
