I was in one of those bands. Im revisiting the video bc I just did that parade again for the last time, and the battle we did was not nearly as great as this one. It poured rain the whole time, our band is replacing all of our hats and plumes bc of the water damage.
I really like how this was not mean spirited at all, but a mutual appreciation of each other's talents. Very different from how the movie "Drumline" portrayed it. I used to play trumpet in marching band and while I enjoyed the healthy competition, I also enjoyed the comraderie with my bandmates and the other bands just doing what we love.

I think we should all be reminded that Musicians should never be pulling eachother down. This is about expression. One of these comments could be enough for a Musician who could have been incredible one day to stop playing altogether because they don't feel good enough. This video is fantastic. These are young kids who had to start somewhere and some of them will grow up to be the most incredible drummers you've ever had the pleasure of knowing. They're having FUN. They're learning together, growing together. Constructive criticism is what we should be offering eachother. Point out their positives, and HELP them where they could use some help. Open up your minds. Raise eachother up.

What matters is that the music brought fellow drummers together and they actually sportfully competed without attitudes and had fun. On that note I will say alot of them should practice on their drumming a tad bit more because a true drummer doesn't look at his drums. I know they are young and not that experienced so practice more on that and y'all will have it as I seen. Thats what caused alot of off key hits. Otherwise I enjoyed it alot and wish y'all had more. I love drums and playing and watching. Thanks for the uplift. Keep drumming

It’s not just some mistakes, all of their playing was terrible. This is isn’t like a mistake here and there this like everything is bad to the point it’s is almost un listenable
I may two years late but…. Damn everyone did a frickin epic job. When everyone played the same rhythm at the same time, it was overpowering and amazing. You could feel the energy radiating off the cold group of kids just having an amazing time.
So many haters in these posts. People coming together for a fun time. Technique, how shit should be played, all that. . . Who cares. Looks like fun and people coming together. This isn't America's Got Talent where talent really matters.
Honestly yes they messed up jig 2 a lot. But what i find cool is that every band got together and instead of just competing for "the best drumline", they got together to attempt jig 2. And if you see it in that perspective, thats magical. It shows that even if you are against each other, you are all brothers and sisters as a big band family. You all enjoy what you play and thats what makes us one big band in the end.
kudos, the red band in the rain suits is obviously a competitive band and good on them supporting the rest of the bands there and not being dicks about it, director taught them well
I'm from Denmark and we do not have "band" as something you can go to and have fun with.. and sure i can hear that they miss some hits or play out of what they are capable off but this is all about the enjoyment of playing together and i feel that its really cool to see so many play at once from different schools.. and I'm sure that they all had fun doing this even with the rain.

I truly truly think this video is beautiful, as person that was born into serious poverty I’ve seen what people become when they lose hope. What I see when I look at these kids and what I hear as they jam out is the will of a generation that needs guidance. This was amazing. I do have to agree that the some of the tenors were on different pitches and they started the Jig 2 off rough but when they came in and played the last two songs like a one ensemble instead of 6, that was amazing.
This is exactly what I was about to comment about. The snares are using match grip which bothers me, and the tenor solos tried going way too fast for their skill

I know they are designed to take weather abuse to an extent but still! Yikes! Sticks were slipping making it hard for them to keep a steady tempo. But at least they were all together, having fun.
I wish I could’ve done this kinda stuff when I was in drum line all through high school lol! We only got to play at games, MCBA competitions, and homecoming parades but I still loved it! Always make sure to cherish every moment of band class bc it goes by sooo fast😅

Look, as a percussionist I get this whole Jig 2 thing, but who cares. What I saw made my soul smile, I saw a bunch of young men having fun and making music and enjoying themselves regardless of crappy weather. Rock on young dudes. This is a moment they'll recall fondly.

Hey everyone tenor from 4:58, for reference we live in Washington, none of our schools take band comp stupidly serious, hell all of these schools have less then 1500 people each, we just wanna have fun and jam out together, all of you take this so seriously as if it actually fuckin mattered wether or not our technique was perfect, this event was so much fucking fun
Made me smile, I was quints my freshman year, moved to second snare my sophomore year, my junior year I took percussion section chief but was on quints because all three quint drummers graduated and no one but me had played them so I spent my Junior and Senior year section chief on quints and training freshmen and Sophmores on them. I liked them more then snare anyhow. Had the chance to join marching 110 at Ohio University but knew I was to wild still and needed to grow up before taking the scholarship so turned it down and joined the Marine Corps as an Infantry Rifleman. Did 12 years in the Marines and 5 deployments, my final deployment I was wounded and resulted in direct impact brain injury and the thing it has really messed was my ability to play the quints. My son tried out a year early for the drum line and made it to quints hahaha I have never played in front of him but he has heard recordings from our shows and he just picked it up naturally. I am going to try to get my ability back to playing like I used with him. Awesome show. Thank you for posting, brought back some awesome memories
This was so cool. These people all had a great time. Loved seeing the looks on their faces when they nailed it. And it looked like just a good time! Great collaboration between these groups. Loved seeing it.
These are the beautiful things that I like to see us doing. Not the politics, greed, and hating just innocence and working as one while having fun. If we could turn around every block and experience events like this that drop our draws everywhere we go; you can't put a price tag on that.

I liked them more then snare anyhow. Had the chance to join marching 110 at Ohio University but knew I was to wild still and needed to grow up before taking the scholarship so turned it down and joined the Marine Corps as an Infantry Rifleman. Did 12 years in the Marines and 5 deployments, my final deployment I was wounded and resulted in direct impact brain injury and the thing it has really messed was my ability to play the quints. My son tried out a year early for the drum line and made it to quints hahaha I have never played in front of him but he has heard recordings from our shows and he just picked it up naturally. I am going to try to get my ability back to playing like I used with him. Awesome show. Thank you for posting, brought back some awesome memories
