True story: the drummer who started all this was a Marine at Camp Pendleton in 1977. Came rushing into the room of my Marine Corps Band buddy and said "Hey! The Army truly sounded more rhythmic and more lose like they're having fun. The second round the Navy loosen up and played more like they were playing for fun.
GO ARMY!! My family has been Army all the way. Navy was good but relied a lot on their snares and timbolics which in my opinion gave it a very treble sound. Army used the full arsenal and gave a very full, well rounded sound. But I am completely biased though 😂
Both were anazing, Navy is more formal and polished, but Army is more enjoyable to listen to, much better beat and much more my vibe. The end was everything when both branches came together for the finale.
Nobody wins. Been a drummer for 35 years. Just great talent. Drums are so fun when you just let it out. Unleash hell. 🤣 ok. The secret is, make it swing. And nasty. So, slower is better.
As an Army veteran, and a University trained jazz drummer, the Army drum line is sophmoric. Nothing they played met Navy's standard of technicality and difficulty. The Army: HS charts? 😂😂😂😂
They came together at the end and did a collaboration that was unexpected ive never seen an army navy drum line battle so at the end they are still one team one side I like it
Well… keeping in mind these players aren’t DCI, pretty good from both. Navy dressing sharp as always which adds to the look. Lots of dirt in both snares lines! Tighten up those diddles, but the Navy SD’s are forefront while Armys are kind of hidden a s well as just a hair cleaner. Props to both tenor lines attempting some tricky stuff, but there’s lots of stick clicks. Both BD lines are definitely supplying the groove but Army has some fatness going on. Great performances (though the lame on the powder trick)
As a devout band nerd before being an Army vet, my vote goes to Navy for sound but army had less mistakes. I spent years in the box looking and listening (critiquing) and there were too many Navy mishaps. They made their mistakes less obvious than the Army though. This brought warmth and joy to my heart!
Props to Navy for the snare line visuals. That was pretty dope. However... The Army took this drum battle, hands down!!! Groove, Swagger, and Overall Musicality for the W-I-N! Lovin' the Army Bass Line! Major Groove laid down whilst playing in unison OR splitting it up into runs, and progressions. Loved the Quints being used for what Tenors should be used for... MELODY!!!! Tasty Licks! The Army Cymbals had more flair than Navy, who hid behind the Tenors, looking scared and unsure, the whole time (no flair there). Army Snares held it down, but as stated earlier, were outshined by the Navy's visuals. Well done Drum Battle, and congrats to Army for the obvious win!
This is why the Army/Navy rivalry is the greatest in the world

I didn't like how the Army drumline "hid" behind the symbols, would have liked to see them up front. Loved the jam session at the end. This a tie for me. All winners. 😀👏🙏
What are these yahoos protecting? My amusement? Publicly paid clowns. Glad my Papa died and I break my back everyday so I can watch your pi$$ing contest.
I noticed how they were hiding to. I didn't understand the reason for that. I like the jam at the end too, it should have been longer.
we're the winners, to have such professionals serving in our Armed Forces. Why do we have such excellent officers? Tradition, training, and the best young men and women in the US.
Protect your American way of life? Are you really that detached from how big of a shit hole the States are? I am truly surprised they managed to have their cap on the right way. Some one must have showed them a diagram on how there meant to be worn.
@@kittymervine6115 Cretin. look it up.
It's a hard call here-loved the swing, rhythms and soulful feel from the Army's drum line (my husband is Army, so slight bias here), but also loved the concise, complex cadences from the Navy as well (my cousin did drum line for many years)---kudos to both lines and gentlemen, THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE to our country!!!!
And gentle ladies!
And ladies. Definitely some ladies throwing down some beats there.
I liked the Army's beats best. Seems funny coming from a pacifist who hates war but respects ALL defence forces. Stay safe wherever you are now. 2024.
Salute to all those who serve our country. Brings tears of joy to see this! God bless you all!
So Proud of both Army & Navy. Love the ending 😄. FANTASTIC JOB. Thank you all for you dedication and service. Stay safe 🙏 ❤️.
Awesome and inspiring performance! God bless each United States military branch! Praying for your safety and staying healthy!!🙏🙏🥁🥁
A random RUclips video to stumble upon, if only all conflicts could be resolved this way. Navy hands down. Beautiful resolution!
Military mom here (x3). As you enjoy watching these talented young men and women having a spirited competition, just start praying for their safety.
May God bless and protect our nations heroes!
I know about the sacrifices that a mom makes. The sleepless nights, the worry when, back in my day, the mail would run late, or a cancelled leave. It takes a toll. My God hold and keep you as well as yours. Moms are always on the minds of the deployed. Know you too are a hero, just of a different sort.
Bless you, Mark. Of course technology has greatly improved (from 2002- to now), so now we can hear from our children regularly. But I can tell you there were many times that the 2-week mark (no contact) would hit and I automatically started deep cleaning the living room so it looked nice when when they came to do the Notification. Their dad knew better than to stop me.
Once, it had been nearly a month, I would leave my cell number on the front door. ('Hell-man' province when the bad guys played constant target practice on the satellites).
But I've learned three crucial lessons over the last 20 years:
1. It's waaaaay harder to be an Army Mom than an Army Wife :-)
2. God's love for us is CRAZY! I definitely didn't want to give MY sons' lives for a bunch of ungrateful people. But He did!
2. God's peace really does surpass all understanding: because I sure couldn't explain it! ☺️
Well all I can say is, *"Hell yeah!!!* Love seeing these young people having fun and lightening up.
These two groups are amazing. After listening to this battle, with all my heart, the win goes to the Army!
GO NAVY!! As the daughter and sister of Navy veterans, I am fiercely loyal to Navy. They were so pulled together, sharply dressed and tight!
A fellow sea mate! Daughter of Ret. Sr. Chief! GO NAVY! And yes, they look Sharpe! 😁
@@greenbananas7766 Yay! Yup, I'm a Navy Junior. My dad is a retired Chief, and my brother is a retired Lieutenant. As my dad always says,"the officers may give the orders, but the Chiefs run the Navy!" Go Navy! Fly Navy!
I was in the Army for 3 years and Navy for 5. I loved this friendly battle. The win definitely goes to the Navy. Be safe everyone and God bless!
Now this is one of the gems on RUclips. Both drumlines play slighly different style, very hard to say which one I prefer. Considering the great sound the smaller Navy team produced I go with them. They looked a little traditional in their uniforms though. Great dumming from both lines.
As Army vet and retired side drummer. Great show such talent. Thank you for your service and talent.
This just showed up in my feed, and I am thrilled that it did. It was an electric performance by both the Army and the Navy. Different techniques but both so talented. Amazing.
True story: the drummer who started all this was a Marine at Camp Pendleton in 1977. Came rushing into the room of my Marine Corps Band buddy and said "Hey! Listen to this!" and started playing and using the rim on purpose and the desk and the back of a chair to bang out exactly what I'm hearing here.
Impressive performances and talent. Cymbal thing was a bit uncalled for, considering the Navy were in uniform.
Still: Navy took it.

Yeah, no class messing with their unis and especially their drums.
@@stanlygirl5951 That's the only part I didn't like -- the flour episode was immature, inconvenient, and unnecessary.
Go Navy. I was stationed on board the USS Coral Sea for 6 years in the 70's. Love the Navy!
My Pop was Coral Maru during El Dorado Canyon
@@johnvercelli2940 wasn't that in the mid 80s? My mind has lost most of ites functioning. 🤪
I went on board in March 1975, just in time for Operation Frequent Wind. Talk about trial by fire. Damn. I won't go into detail, but three of us were sent ashore to the American Embassy to get some injured civies. Let's just say "injured" was an understatement. When we got back, the chopper had to circle the flight deck for an hour until we could land long enough to disembark. I remember they were pushing fixed wings of the bow of the Enterprise because there was just no room. It was what the Navy called "controlled confusion."
Then we went on to the Mayaguez incident, where the Khmer Rhouge "illegally held" (she was captured In international waters, close to the Gulf of Tonkin, I think) one of our merchant ships,, the SS Magayez, so it was a show of force. I served for 6 years and we had just gotten the news that Iran had taken our embassy, but I was on my out. Thank God.
I didn't keep up with the Ageless Warrier after that. I know she was decommissioned in April of '90, almost 15 years to the day after the fall of Saigon.
Funny thing is, I met my husband on board ship. I outranked him, and he couldn't stand me. The feeling was mutual.
I met him again in 2000. We started dating, and we're married until he suddenly passed away from cancer, January 2021. I miss the hell out of him.
@@julianaadams5751 wow, what a history...thank you for yours and your dear husband's service and for sharing this! Enjoyed it very much! 💟 also am so sorry for your loss...dang🥀

@@59Alaskan thank you so much. I've got so many memories, but they are never as good as the real thing, unfortunately.
I am Army through and through, but I would give this one to the Navy. Great job to everyone!
I remember when the Army-Navy game used to take place in November and Super Bowl taking place in January but ever since 9/11 these schedules have been off: Army-Navy takes place in December and the Super Bowl takes place in February.
Wow, those are two impressive drumlines! It brings back memories of carrying tripple-toms for miles every day, marching around Recruit Training Center San Diego many years ago! I could use some of that exercise today!
Aesthetically, Seeing the Navy snare drums play is more appealing than Army’s snares obstructed by cymbals. Percussion is a lot about seeing the physical movements, it makes it more enjoyable to me. Great job everyone.
I absolutely don't disagree here, but it's also clear that Navy's primary focus is on the snares vs Army on the quints. Just listen to which carries the lead in each, it's pretty clear in my eyes.
The Army had a bigger group in the same amount of space.
Tactical battlefield communication and encouragement to stamina on the Line. SAR RTO OLD school.
Im a proud serving USMC the Navy sucked
@@darkness4865 Dude the only sticks you play are the crayons, NAVY carries your A!!
Later you might get a job at Wingstop, where half their offerings are drumettes, but even they won't want that Crayola taste you serve........
But thank you for your service anyway! We love you!!
I'm an army guy. I'm also a percussionist... NAVY WINS! HANDS DOWN!!
The Navy's uniform added extra points, made everything look crisp and clean
I served in the Navy myself during the 1980's as an enlisted, my uncle was an Army officer, a major, and ever since then, if I can catch an Army/Navy game I'm watching it!
I think Navy GOT THIS!!!😊 Great job Army and thank all for your dedication and service ❤
Enjoyed both drumlines! But, must say, "Go Army!" Our son retires this summer from the Army after 24 years service and he is just 41 years old. So proud of him.
Congrats to your son on his retirement God bless you all much love from an ex ARMY wife 🇺🇲

Both sides WIN 🏆 Absolutely amazing!!! Bless our Military!!!!!!
Navy was more musical than Army, but Army had some amazing bass drum runs. Great job both. As a former Drill Team member of the Navy, I'm going to give a slight edge to the Navy Team.
Watched this after watching both Drumline movies. The Navy's routines resembles the drumline battles from the movies. This is so cool. Thanks for uploading.
Thank you all, for serving. Both are great. God bless.🙏😇😊
Regardless of who "wins" their music is uplifting . Cudos to ALL of our soldiers in uniform for their servis to the USA 💖
Great show on both sides. Hats off to our military!
2:39 the navy drummers hitting the drums of the player next to them!! Incredible touch!
Both are outstanding. It's refreshing to see young people, military people, squared away, dedicated, and focused. These kids will do great things.
Ex army wife here, I appreciate all of our men and women in uniform, to me they both sound awesome, God bless all of our men and women in uniform and their families 🇺🇸❤️🙏
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Both kill it! Love them all. Great show.
Drums are one of those magical instruments that always make me want to get up and dance!
Got to give kudos to these young men and women from the Academies - they have some seriously tough academic and physical loads and then to put all the work they do into their drumming on top of that? Whew! Congrats to both Army & Navy on some seriously good drumming.
3 years in the Army and 24 years working for the Navy.
I am always impressed with them, and reminiscent with pride of times, good and bad, gone by.
This is a great show that Army and Navy have fun together, not competition.
Great to see the positive energy from these great service members! Good fun competitiveness from both sides. You all are awesome!! USAF here!
Takes me back to my bootcamp days! I was in a 900 division(917-2010) and we were a triple threat. Band, drill, and choir. Best damn band! I was one of 3 Drum Majors. Damn i miss those days.
#GoNavyBeatArmy
What a waste of tax dollars.
Great job from out military as alway, makes me proud to be an American. These young folks do an amazing job, God bless all of them to keep them safe.
The Army truly sounded more rhythmic and more lose like they're having fun. The second round the Navy loosen up and played more like they were playing for fun.
I got the same feeling. ⚓️
They all are very good. In the end they all play for the same band.
I imagine that my grandfather's who were WWII vet's would agree with me.
I spent 22 years in the Australian Navy and I have to give it to the Army; they have swagger,
GO ARMY!! My family has been Army all the way. Navy was good but relied a lot on their snares and timbolics which in my opinion gave it a very treble sound. Army used the full arsenal and gave a very full, well rounded sound. But I am completely biased though 😂
They are all winners!! These fine men and women represent us all soooooo very well with every beat they pound out!!! Bless them all!!
Navy took Army to town! Loved how y'all came together at the end, Props to everyone!
So great, cannot even imagine how long they had to practice to achieve such excellence!!!

Is this a joke? Sounded like a 3A High School drumline.
@@txblades1 maybe not 3a but there was a lot of dirt.
Thank you for recognizing that point -- dedication!
@@txblades1 So you're an expert on these matters? Are you a cup-half-empty kind of person? Are you a cynic? Makes me wonder ...
You are amazing bands and I thank you so much for your service!
Both were anazing, Navy is more formal and polished, but Army is more enjoyable to listen to, much better beat and much more my vibe. The end was everything when both branches came together for the finale.
BRILLIANT!!! For me the Navy snare drums have it!
Too bad the snares sound like clicking sticks on a piece of plywood.
ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE! Thank you for your service and remember that we fight together as brothers.
Great performances (though the lame on the powder trick)
agreed. I mean holy CRAP, I was like "THESE" guys, dirty? no, I must be imagining it.... but I wasn't.)
this was so awesome. The Navy was much more synchronized and had some fire routines but I truly enjoyed both.
As a devout band nerd before being an Army vet, my vote goes to Navy for sound but army had less mistakes. I spent years in the box looking and listening (critiquing) and there were too many Navy mishaps. They made their mistakes less obvious than the Army though. This brought warmth and joy to my heart!
wow I only watched for 2 mins and the Navy got it just off of pure uniformity, precision, and presentation! VERY CLEAN IN EVERY ASPECT
