- Owners of several 7-Eleven stores in Oakland say they're being targeted by thieves and that the problem is escalating. They've counted at least six incidents around the city since the beginning of August. Store owners say they believe the same group is responsible for these crimes.

The city will put liens on the business owners. Better to close up shop and move across the border to business friendly jurisdictions. The customers can drive farther. The Oakland voters voted for the lawlessness.
well, if you're an employee you have no choice, taxes are automatically deducted from your paycheck unless you get paid in cash. if you own a convenience store, they can rescind or suspend your business, tobacco and liquor license if not just shut you down entirely.
in this case, i'd venture to say this 7 eleven is probably franchised (i think more than half of them are), so they could also lose their franchise license. 'could' is being generous, not maintaining basic management responsibilities like that for moral reasons would be an egregious affront to the corporation.

Stand behind bullet proof glass. Have a bodyguard/cop there when you open and close so you can get in/out safely. Personally I'd pack up and leave. I used to have a business in a very bad area. Dealing with crime on a daily basis aged me 20 plus years, gave me ptsd. I’m on edge around people and always keep my guard up. It’s no way to live. It’s not worth it. The damage is done. I avoid people as much as possible. Just leave if you’re in those areas, it’s not worth it.

Dealing with break ins, shop lifters, robberies on a constant basis and being in the line of gun fire every now and then will put anyone on edge. Has nothing to do with my conscience. Right now, I am entertaining some scary thoughts about these armed thieves. The possible way to stop them is pretty cold, but the over-whelming robberies of these stores (and everyone) is disgusting. Hire a licensed carrier (not a pigeon) to hide on the roof or in a fake soda can cooler.
You can literally have a front row seat at these events. Just parked your car at the 7-11 store, while sitting in your car and they will perform for you. May cost you a car window and your life but well worth it😠

Pretty lax in security features. The store is a sitting duck. No bars on windows, no yellow posts, no walk up window, no secured area for cigarettes even though if it is a walk up store. Cage in the cigarettes.

Stations around me won't even let you in the store. They have a window you order from, and they put your stuff in one of those bank type drawers.

Why these store owners are not allow'd to protect themselves with firearms is beyond me...
Some criminals have guns too ..... my store is really bad and in a very bad area where many are carrying a weapon to some people walk in casually scares me to death. a guy recently had a few tasers and a knife and seemed very off to me.
Insurance won't allow it because they're afraid of lawsuits and innocent people getting hit by stray bullets. I drive a cab in Las Vegas and insurance won't even allow me to carry a pocket knife. Insurance doesn't care about employees, they care about themselves.
Because it's California, as soon as a victim tries to defend them self, it's the victim that will be arrested!
Be smart and buy AIRTAG put inside the cigagrate box ..that way, u can track where they live and let the police know so they can catch them ... just spend 100 bucks to buy 4 airtag and do like that... one day, u can catch all of them ...

Everyone should take a page from the 7-Eleven clerks in Stockton, CA. The media portrayed those men as evil and in the wrong because they stopped a vicious robbery. However, they protected their property from a thief. If Alameda county doesn't want to protect law abiding citizens and will not prosecute criminals, they should turn the same blind eye when the lawful turn to vigilante justice.

There's a cannabis store next door and whole foods across the street. I am pretty sure there is surveillance set up at all directions on the vehicle and criminals. They also made enough noise for the whole neighborhood to hear and see.
The work clothes and work boot stores are completely safe though .
Even if there is video the police won't do anything. The one owner had a whole stack of complaints he has made to the police and nothing has been done.

People so anti large stores ok but they serve the community the same as local small stores do. this is insanity, to many locations need armed security my store has brazen thieves who leave on citi bikes (public rental bikes by lyft) and loads who'll just walk out with a soda and so many teens stealing items thinking their cool.
These aren't a simple item it hurts the stores bottom line, every item hurts we get less hours and will soon add up! just be respectful when walking in a establishment, be kind and if you don't see a smile on that workers face there's a few reasons why!

7/11 is a HUGE corporation. There's no reason why they can't use Oakland stores as an experimental: lock all smokes and items easilly taken behind a large plexi-shield. It would slow the business down, but that's the price you pay for being there.
No wonder 7 eleven employees are always so angry.
