Think of the 61 year old bodega owner in NY that got attacked by a 35 year old ex-con thug, in his store, and wound up stabbing him and killing him in self defense. He ended up spending a couple of weeks on Rikers Island before charges were dropped. Who can deal with that? Who wants to own a business where violent thugs, who feel perfectly at home with all their homies in jail, can attack you with little fear, and you can potentially go to prison for protecting yourself? Communities that allow that would be served right if every business pulled up and left town. Let people ride a bus for 2 hours each way to buy groceries. Screw them if they won't make their leaders put a stop to it.

Start a state petition for a ballot measure to vote - Self Defense is a RIGHT and any harm done to the other party can not be charged criminally or civil. Meaning the family of the criminal can't sue for wrongful death. Self defense should include the right to shoot to kill anyone who threatens you with a gun/knife/etc. Even if it was a replica, BB gun, fake, etc.
Police can only do so much when the DA will do nothing.

@@dirtmcgirt7125The car rental center at the Oakland Airport tell people to not fill up on gas at the gas station nearby, because thieves wait for visitors to pull up to the station before robbing them.
This is a known problem, but Oakland PD have been specifically told to not police the area because it would lead to arrests of people that the DA and the city council consider as innocent people and not career criminals.

I live just across the border from Alameda country and was in the Home Depot store the week before that employee was killed. It is definitely getting worse. Repeat offenders need to be put away, so the rest of us can have a normal life.
You know, when there is building after building after derelict, blighted building lining Oakland's streets, only the smoke shops, dispensaries, and gas station/online gambling businesses still welcome walk ins. What do you expect when the target shrinks in size, and the rest of the neighborhood bunkers down being boarded up windows and barbed wire? They're not stupid.
People and businesses quietly leave and then one day Oakland realizes it is Detroit on the Pacific. No tax base, no services, no hope and no future. It is probably already too late anyway.

I just listened to a humanist explaining how criminals are not fully to blame for their crimes. It struck me that this may be one of the problems since these crimes seem to be heavily non-whites committing these crimes and there may be an overwhelming number of non-Christians running these cities dishing out non punishments to people who should be in prison.

I feel if you're in Oakland and cities like that with high crime you're just saying you want to be a victim of crime. If you have a business in Oakland, it's your fate to be robbed and if you call the police, I can understand why they don't come. You know it's dangerous with crazy crime you set yourself up to be a victim of crime. Oakland is a city that likes crime. This current mayor seems like a helping hand to the criminals saying go to Oakland. Clean the streets up first then invite people. No they do not. Oakland voters chose to vote away their 2A rights. There are no gun stores in Oakland. Do not go into other counties to buy guns. We do not need to be blamed for contributing to gun violence for not voting away our right to defend ourselves.
Oakland has always had a high crime rate though. Since WW2 the black population there has been very high.
Oakland businesses should open by appointment only and only after the person the appointment is for has a background check. If they have a criminal record, cancel the reservation. You're not obligated to serve criminals. It's not against the law to deny service to anyone, anytime for any reason. Let the criminal complain racism and civil rights and try to prove their criminal behavior should be grounds to be served.
