    You're correct. This is actually two songs smushed together. Dave had the song Holy Wars, about well, religious war, and a second song about the comic book character The Punisher. …but he didn't think either was a complete song, so they combined them and added the last bit to it. So it ended up being three partial songs combined into one masterpiece.

      Four horsemen and Mechanix for example. Only reason Dave got away using them is because he wrote them... And many are some of Metallica's most icons songs from their early catalogue, which got them famous in the first place.

    • @musicointempero2256
      @musicointempero2256 2 года назад +1

      @@59thfsaviation79 not really. Four horsemen was essentially the most well received song off their first album, jump in the fire as well. Metallica got their initial fame for their early thrash sound, which those two songs were amongst the most quintessential to that sound. Had he not influenced them early with what is essentially his sound, they likely (not that I can say necessarily) would not have been as well received as they were.
      Then after kicking him out, they still used those songs (an odd choice for a band that kicked the writer of them out), very likely because they understood their value and didn't think they would be able to replace them for something better. I mean, the four horsemen riff is still one of the most recognised thrash riffs ever. He may not have written their whole catalogue, but his influence definitely shaped their success initially and without that, they wouldn't have had an audience to sell their later era dad-metal-garage-rock music to.

    Dave Mustaine is a lyrical genius. He first entered the music scene as the lead guitarist for none other than METALICA! After being let go in a not so nice way he formed MEGADETH and became a bigger star as well as influence on the genre than he ever would have been had he stayed in Metalica!
    When I compare the lyrical content between his old band and what was presented to the world through his band Megadeth. Dave's lyrics are 100 times more impactful and aggressive. In other words more METAL if you will. I mean if you play some of the most aggressive music in the world why would you want to write some of the most "please be nice to me, I'm sorry for offending you" style lyrics! This is what drove a huge divide in the Metal crowd during the early years of METALICA AND MEGADETH!!!
    They have since buried the hatchet between them but I'm still a Megadeth fan over Metalica, not that Metalica doesn't have a good sound or good songs but after the "Black" album I lost all interest in them. While Megadeth just kept kicking my ass over and over!!!

      There's 2 thrash bands that have benefited directly from Metallica. Obviously Megadeth, because it wouldn't be a thing if they hadn't kicked Dave out. And Exodus, because Kirk Hammett went to Metallica and Gary Holt is a better guitar player in my opinion. I'm not knocking on Metallica. They've had some good stuff. Ride The Lightning was my intro to Thrash. I even didn't mind Load even though it was total detour from Thrash and almost metal as a whole. And who can deny Cliff Burton. This song comes from the best Thrash album of all time. Yes I’m saying Rust in Peace is better than my #2 album Master of Puppets. Megadeth is one of those 80s bands that still hits now. A lot of 80s bands and songs we’re formulaic for the time but Megadeth was on some other level shit with Good Morning Black Friday, Peace Sells, and my favorite off the Peace Sells album The Conjuring. Dave’s. Vocals have been criticized and bashed mostly by Mettwlixa fans but also by metal fans in general, but I disagree because his vocals are the reason they are different and have their own sound and in my opinion for their songs and style his voice fits like a glove. Can you imagine hearing Peace Sells or 5 Magics with James Hetfield singing and shredding? I don’t think he can but Dave most definitely can. Great reaction 👍

    Fun reaction to watch and it is very refreshing to know that young adults including yourself have taken a great liking in heavier music and music that required an insurmountable block of time to create. Despite being a major music lover, player and critic, I actually heard elements of "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" that I hadn't picked up on before (I've listened to this song and the rest of the Rust In Peace record dozens of times and yet still discover the little music nuances that are intentional).
    As for other Megadeth records, try out Peace Sells, But Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good...So What?, Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia, The System Has Failed, United Abominations, Endgame and Dystopia. Imo, Megadeth has been pretty consistent regarding solid quality material, but have made a couple of fluke records and some decent records in b/t the aforementioned ones. I absolutely love Megadeth AND Metallica (do not read deeply into the Metallica vs Megadeth feud that is fueled by internet trolls and insecure jerks out there!) They are both awesome bands in there own rights, plus they are very different musically! While I'm on the subject of Metallica, check out there first 5 albums at least. I also think Load & Reload have a good amount of solid tracks though those records are a bit bloated and stray away from their thrash metal style imo. Then there are Death Magnetic (a return to form) and Hardwired to Self Destruct (a little better production and more balanced but bloated), which I really enjoy as well despite some production quality flaws.
