Raced against John in the very first series of Superteen in 1991. Top lad. Fast forward and when he broke his leg and was in hospital in Ireland, I forwarded him my copy of the 1991 British Gp program as we were all doing a demo race at the event and it was a great piece of motorcycling memorabilia. My prized possession. Then after I posted it they moved him. I thought it was lost forever. Just wanted to thank him for all the entertainment he'd given over the years. Then I went to a talk in my town with him and Whit. Had a photo op and asked if he got it. His reply "Bloody hell! I did get one of those... thanks very much!" Never had a bigger smile on my face. Legend and gentlemen.
As an American, who has grown accustomed to the over-the-top personalities of professional athletes here in the states, the humbleness of Mr. McGuinness is refreshing and admirable. Please continue to ride safely, sir, and inspire others in motorsports.
Ask the average Brit who John McGuiness is and they wouldn't know! Motorcycling is very much a niche here. I think that helps John get on with his life and not get mobbed everywhere.
Nice to see his name is in the US as well. Absolutely legendary motorcycle road rider. Btw what does our (mine too) northern Lancashire accent sound like to an american? :))
The most down to earth professional rider I’ve ever known. Humble, honest, hugely experienced and unlike some, has his head screwed on and feet firmly planted. Fame has not ruined John and he really hasn’t deserved the terrible run of luck post 2016, particularly that horrible injury. A bloke’s bloke who loves his bikes and club racing. Similar in some ways to the late, great Joey Dunlop. I wish him well for the future and it would be great to see John get another TT win 👍
How lucky am I to have watched John win TTs in my life, can’t wait to see some more racing from him and more wins. I think he still has it in him for sure. All the best to John and his family.
Well, the 2022 TT just wrapped up and John was there in the top 10. As a 72 year-old sportbike rider, I can totally agree with his desire to keep racing, however there must come a time for him when he has to consider the danger of racing in the most dangerous motorcycle race in the world. I hope he does retire at this point because I get heart palpations when he climbs on a bike at the TT. He's a treasure of a human being we don't want to lose.
What an absolute inspiration that man is. A proper down to earth approachable gent, legend, honest, loyal, winner. Loved by all who know him. Makes me proud to be a biker the man.
To me John McGuinness is up there with Jonny Rea, Mark Marquez, Joey Dunlop and Rossi. He to me is so important to the history of motercycle racing. I couldn't respect an athlete more.
Rossi was at the TT a few year ago , done a publicity lap and showed respect to John on the podium saying "he's the man"... If rossi has respect for the bloke, he's obviously a legend
what an absolute legend, never met the man in the flesh but really would like to, bet a great giggle on the beer to. been riding all my life and got a few bikes, nothing compared to this man in both respects. you keep going John and as people say, nothing to prove, you've done it in buckets full, looking forward to seeing you in the ducati cup and other endeavors :)
John is a very special talent Bikes are a big part of his life. Hope he stays safe. A more comfortable seat would have helped during his interview Thanks
John McGuiness is the absolute daddy. Met him when he came for a talk in my home City, bought his signed book and it's fascinating. Absolute legend of a man. Absolutely nothing to prove to anyone at all. He's at the very, very top.
Enjoy the family and life after bikes. Maybe put a team together. Bless everyone with your presence at the races off the bikes. Your too humble to know the legend you are John. Stay up and take care of yourself...
John you will never make a fool of your self , you have good years and also bad years but you are still a top racer and still got a few good races in you yet , and still have time for your family ❤️🦂
Its nice how honest he is, you can tell how scared he is of retiring and having nothing, hope like he says the people hes been loyal to all these years stick by him and help him stay close to the sport.
I'd love to see John on the top step at the TT again but today's young Turks are also athletes as well as great riders. John is a great rider and doesn't need anything in that regard but in my humble view in order to beat the likes of Hickman, Harrison & Dunlop he needs to become an athlete. Although still a youngster at the time Dunlop took a new approach to his fitness a few years ago and it paid huge dividends. One of the best performance increases to be had is improving power to weight ratio. There are still wins to be had if John was to do the same.
Norton does not have nearly enough MODERN superbike experience to handle a man like JM!!! I would bet my ridiculous pay check JM will podium in 2021!!! We are all pulling for you John!!!! Age is just a #!!!!! Kick ass buddy!!!!!!
Imagine, if his grandkids ever want to get into racing, they will have an INCREDIBLE coaching advantage. What an amazing talent, and great guy on top of it.
Well all I can say is if you don't appreciate this guy for who he is and what he's done there something wrong with you! I think it would be great that in a couple of years time there could be a series for the over the 50s in the bsb paddock, maybe a one make series. I'm sure there's plenty of the elder statesman who could put on a good show for us.
What is a shame is that if you ask the average Brit who he is, they wouldn't have a clue! Deserves more recognition than alot of our other top sportsman because of the amount of TT wins and more importantly the levels of danger are greater than any other sport.
The disparity of salaries in professional sport is quite shocking. Not sure what can be done about it but these TT Racers are a different breed and for me they deserve as much as any crying footballer who was just clipped on the ankle...
I think the huge problem is that retail motorcycles aren’t particularly profitable. Most manufacturers already fund MotoGP. Road racing simply doesn’t raise their sales by the amount it’d cost to properly sponsor a team.
John, you May miss it, but can you say that it was ever fun? I raced RDs here in the US,amateur for eight years, nothing much Compared to your level, small potatoes, very small..BUT-I won 6 championships, two time national champion, ancient history, my point is, it was never fun, never. I was stressed days before every race, triple checking everything because I was my own mechanic,,I was not afraid of crashing or getting hurt, my biggest fear was of not winning, especially after I had won the first championship. I don’t know if it’s common with guys at the top, but if you look at videos of X Formula One racers before a race. They’re not smiling and back slapping and whooping it up. They all have that 1000 yard stare. Especially guys like Ayrton Senna. And Nigel Mansell. Those guys never looked like they were having fun just before a race. So John, was it ever fun for you? Or was it constant self induced stress and pressure???
It annoyed me at around 15 minute mark that John had to defend himself there from those ridiculous things that tiny minority were saying! I've seen it first hand with all the social media sites last year with rossi complaining saying he's finished he won't/can't win to pack it in and then those exact same people in tears that it was his last year and how they going to miss him! Enjoy and appreciate who's riding and going out there we'll never see the likes of mcpint rossi etc again don't say something then flipflop the next day, if you love bikes and racers that race give them the support and appreciate while they here and still doing it! I can't wait to see John at NW200 this year hope to shake his hand be a shite day when he retires hope its not for many years!

@@sleepindragon179 I don't think it would change him even if he was. but yeah you're right.
Nice to see his name is in the US as well. Absolutely legendary motorcycle road rider. Btw what does our (mine too) northern Lancashire accent sound like to an american? :))
@@RoseangleWarrior Ask Guy Martin that question....
When ever John quits racing he'll be going out a winner.

Absolute legend and a top bloke as well.
Yeah but who's the dope doing the interview....Bennetts has a lot full of posers and dopey interviewers
I waved at John at the London Bike show when he was on stage as I walked by, he waved back, I was made!
I've met you a few times John. Your an amazing rider! down to earth! A true gent! One of the best in the sport! Awsome.
How lucky am I to have watched John win TTs in my life, can’t wait to see some more racing from him and more wins. I think he still has it in him for sure.

I’m 62, bike owner since 1977, and on balance I agree with your assessment.
What an absolute inspiration that man is. A proper down to earth approachable gent, legend, honest, loyal, winner. Loved by all who know him. Makes me proud to be a biker the man.
I could listen to the man all night ,no bull a magnificent human being , the best of luck John ,. From eire

To me John McGuinness is up there with Jonny Rea, Mark Marquez, Joey Dunlop and Rossi. He to me is so important to the history of motercycle racing. I couldn't respect an athlete more.
D 3p Kawasaki in your list he's only comparable to Joey. He's way above the rest. John is a different kind of legend.

We couldn't agree more, he's always such a pleasure to talk to. Cheers for the comment, Michael
John is a great lad and deserving of respect for his achievements and the what he has done for the sport.
I would like to see him retire. Has given us great years of pleasure..🍀🇮🇪👍
