    Another fantastic edition of the Late Brake Show, I enjoyed this very much! I remember when the Fireblade came out, it was such a radical game changer at the time. Now I want one!

    The relaxed natural presentor style that Shakey has is incredible when you consider how new he is to this. Each episode he becomes more engaging and you can see it rubs off on any guest he has with him. I am not a bike guy but I find these Byrne Out episodes riveting and cannot wait for the next one.
    Jonny, any chance you can persuade Harry to let Shakey at the Dakar collection? I think it would make some great TV to see the pair of them blasting around the farm with their mutual enthusiasm for bikes feeding off of each other

    This was great. Reminds me of days when me and some lads would go for a ride just for fun. No sat navs or fancy this that or the other. Just jump on, run some twisty roads, grab a cuppa and a sandwich and come back again. Also great to see you Shakey back on a bike again. It's been four years in the waiting. A decent honest video lads. Thanks..

    Fantastic episode, John and Shane made for a great double act. I loved midway through when John's speedometer was suddenly blurred out... must have been vibration 😉. Shame about the camera Jonny, it was giving some great shots. Stronger mount next time. Looking forward to the next episode.

    You know when a guy is obsessed with bikes when he cant stand next to one without touching it

  • @tonykeast9966
    @tonykeast9966 2 года назад +41

    That was great. Know both bikes well. The 2020 version with the overly long gearing, before Honda thankfully changed the ratios, does just over 120mph in 1st gear. That's over 15mph more than all the competition. Crazy. Crazier still is where it hits the magic 186mph/300kph... the stock overgeared SC82 model sees the speedo freeze at 186 flat out in FOURTH. So it's anybody's guess what the actual Vmax is 2 gears later. It didn't quite redline in top. A. Real. Weapon!
    The old one still rocks, best thing is the boot space under the rear seat! Enough room for 4 sideways cans of stella or a Chinese takeaway, if you crush the prawn crackers a bit.

Shakey, John, bookend Honda Fireblades, racing stories, bike reviews and a very noble camera smash( for its first, last and only use it definitely went out on an epic ride)! What a fantastically packed episode! I would say, get these two to do live commentary of the TT when John finally retires from active racing. They could be the Phill Ligget and Paul Scherwin of Motorcycle racing.

    • @welditmick
      @welditmick 2 года назад +1

      As a 'road bike' the old one is in my opinion the better bike.(17inch front conversion) If you only rode the new ones up to the same rev limit as the old ones you would see why. As you know, you have to 'ride' them, no gizmos like todays stuff. I still have a 96 and sold a 16 blade last year. Yes all the newer stuff is quicker, but for everyday use - No thanks.

    I remember clearly when that Fireblade came out. It was a revelation !
    The 16" front wheel was controversial but Honda had their reasons. To make it steer quicker.
    I lusted after that bike, bought all the magazines of the day and then when the Kawasaki ZX9R B came out a year later, I had to have one of those instead. I bought a used B1 ZX9R in '95 and owned it for 12 years !. Best bike I'd ever owned and what a beast it was.
    Certainly wasn't as agile as the Blade, but still very competent and competitive machine. It was fast !
    I sadly sold it around 14 years ago now, but not all is lost. I now have two E2 model ZX9R's and love them immensely. Greatest 900cc bike ever made I reckon.

    John and Shakey are hands down 2 of the greatest British motorcycle racers of there generation
    John’s won 23 TT’s plus a 250cc British title, Shakey has won a record 6 BSB titles, the question is would John have been able to take on Shakey in a straight fight for the championship in BSB and could Shakey achieve identical lap times and speeds as John on the fearsome mountain course in the Isle of Man 🇮🇲

    Not sure if it was a myth, but I heard a story that the Fireblade was being tested at the same time as the original NSX on the Honda test track in Japan. After a few laps of sharing track time the boys testing the Fireblade got thrown off the track for overtaking the NSX too often/too recklessly. Even if it's not true, I still like the story.
    Also… after watching this must be one of my fave episodes. Shakey and John were bloody brilliant.

    • @Fastvoice
      @Fastvoice 2 года назад +1

      Highly unlikely. The NSX was already on the market (1990) when the Fireblade was still in development. And if both were on street legal tires back then the NSX would have been quicker around nearly any given track (much higher cornering speeds) - especially at Suzuka, where Honda used to drive tests.
      I know a bit about the relations because I owned a NSX NA1 and later a NA2 and a Ducati 916 Biposto (new when it came out 1995) about the same time in the mid and late 90s. And I tested a 1995 Fireblade before I bought the Duc. 😉

    • @arrow0872
      @arrow0872 2 года назад +1

      Both machines were tested on a track (could be Willow Springs) back in the 90s by the US motorcycle magazine Sport Rider. The CBR was faster than the NSX. I found the very issue (December 1993) on Ebay and purchased it a couple of years ago but it got lost during delivery unfortunately…

      @@arrow0872 Yeah. Willow Springs big track (not Streets of Willow I guess) could be one of the few exceptions. Long sweeping straights and turns, only a few low speed corners. Advantage for the bike with better acceleration.

      @@Fastvoice I seem to remember that they tested in both tracks and the result was the same.

    I remember the blade coming out in 92 and blowing everything into the weeds. Still think it's the best looking bike ever. Must get my bike license one day so I can finally ride one !!

    The fire blade for me is the perfect package, I’ve had some of the best days out on my latest one , I’ve had many bikes but I must say the fire blade is by far the best, thank to Honda 👍👍

    Good to see you 2 racers out on the public. Roads that aren’t closed on road bikes !! Nice one

    That was simply brilliant. Someone else said heartwarming and that summed it up for me. Fastest 33 mins in years.

    Couple of legends. Not many/any would keep up with you two if they stumbled upon you on the road, irrespective of what they're riding!!
