There is proof right there that they forced her to say things!, there is proof that the baby was not burned . So it is obvious she didn't burn her. But she felt she had to say what they wanted her to say. Mom and Dad need a kick in the ass for not getting her a lawyer.

cops are so disgusting. They manipulative a teenage woman into waiving her rights so that they can publicly prosceute and destroy her life and the family. Even if she gets off her life is ruined and for what? Is it justice? Really? What she did is punishment of itself. The sick and twisted liars and manipulators here are the detectives. Not the girl.

She might not want to chance doctors uncovering past pregnancies or anything else that she was worried about. I was a generation I of birth control pills. Women found out use of pills could,/might cause spontaneous abortion, some tried it. They advised you not to use the pills while pregnant, some would start pill use in 8-9 Month thinking they would have more protection once the baby was born. It was always a warning you would not be safe until at least 3 full months of pills after birth, but always there are people who try to defy the odds, especially if they had a friend who
had intercourse right away & said it worked for her, started pills early & didn't get pregnant.:
You just never know. There is a cultural thing in our country for the last 20-30 years among a high percentage of teens, "never tell an adult the truth". Another thing, We have raised several generations that have been weakened by not holding people responsible for their actions or mistakes. When you tell young people it isn't your fault, you are too immature, you are excused, the age is the wrong thing to base maturity on, taking responsibility molds the character. "A smart man learns from his mistakes, a wise man learns from others mistakes." We are short on wise men. One goal I had was "if i died young, I wanted my kids to know how to care for themselves. " There is a wonderful book out there called"I learned everything I need to know in Kindergarten".
Just remember this when you finish it: Don't
      Pee in Your Friend's Sandbox.

I think the mom knew too, from the texts. It is heartbreaking - Skylar kept wanting to hold her mom’s hand & be told she still loved her. She obviously didn’t have a feeling of unconditional love - in her perception love was contingent. I’m not saying she didn’t have unconditional love - just that she didn’t perceive it. Her dad was better about expressing it verbally than her mom. It broke my heart when she said she just needed support. She was traumatized & crying and she didn’t feel that love & support from her parents at what has to be the hardest, scariest time of her life. I don’t know if the baby was alive at birth or not but I would have reasonable doubt. And I think the jury will feel sympathy for her. Her mom told her that her life would be over if she was pregnant (after email from doctor). Geez - how can she cope with giving birth when she is told this. They should have been talking about options like adoption & safe harbor. Skylar felt like her life would be over & her parents wouldn’t love her anymore if she had a baby. I feel really sorry for her.

Tandi Caldwell because they knew the female cop....the mother was in on it! Come on mom's....you find out your daughter has a baby, she's being investigated for murder, your yard is being dug up looking for a dead body of a baby, the neighbors are calling and it's all over the news...the cops let you into the room to see your daughter....and you don't cry? You aren't in shock? Your not pissed off? You and your hubby just walk in and give a 5 second hug and then sit down to repeatedly alibi yourselves knowing cops are watching and it's being recorded....you just go in and let her squeel "I'm sorry mommy" oh please....these people either deserve academy awards or jail themselves!! Where is their bedroom in proximaty to the daughter's? She didn't make a sound pushing out a child dead or alive but normal size? If alive the baby didn't make a sound? Come on...she drowned that baby in the toilet before it could scream! Just like the chic at McDonald's who got off charges for trying to kill her newborn by drowning it in the McDonald's bathroom toilet but got caught by the coworker. Regardless of this interview, the point is she did NOTHING to try to save her baby- did not call 911, or wake up her parents.. Yeah, we all go into interrogation rooms on a regular basis...😯
People, PLEASE SHUT THE FLUFF UP AND CALL AN ATTORNEY!!
This young lady trusts these adults. She continuously holds her hand out for someone to hold it...😭
I am a Conservative woman who values human life, but there are complex issues at work here...Skylar should have been on birth control a lot sooner than she was...She should have been able to talk to her mom honestly but apparently was used to lying to her parents...There is a reason for this type of behavior! The thought of disappointing or angering her parents frightened her more than any thought of repercussions from society...
She felt she couldn't talk to her parents about birth control so she certainly wasn't going to talk to them about an abortion! Then, she was in over her head and went into total denial. Please recall your eighteen-year old self. You are going to Prom and preparing for college...Your parents are expecting you to continue your "perfect life..."
We have celebrities bragging about how many abortions they've had...My point? Human life is not being valued as long as the baby is still in the womb...We are pounding this mentality into our youth!
This is a case that needs to be seen by psychology students as well as civics students...

This seriously makes me want to throw up. This girl told them the truth the very first time she was interrogated. Why couldn't they have just gone with that. Nope, they had their theories and they had to make her conform to what they were saying happened. Like all cops they want to get a guilty confession so they keep on and keep on and keep on and they lead and plant the ideas in people's heads. They tell her "oh Skylar, you are so close.... You are so close in giving us all the truth. " So the poor girl felt like she needed to keep on until she said what the detectives approved of. And that female detective brought up cremation first. I know this kid was scared and she went about things the wrong way. But I pray the jury can see she was telling the truth the first time around and I pray they can also see these a**hole detectives planted this garbage in her head and led her to say what she did in that second interrogation.

The reason her parents didn't advise her better is because they, like the detectives, believe the baby was born alive. She probably has a history of lying to her parents faces, and that's why her dad kept asking her if she was telling the truth. That's also why her mother told her she was not going home that night. Maybe she planned to drop the baby off at a fire station, hospital, church, etc. That would be my guess...there’s a reason why a lot of states, counties, and municipalities have those “Safe Haven” laws or “Baby Moses” laws. Indiana even has baby drop-boxes, like a pull-out drawer you lay the baby in, close it, and leave. No questions asked, no investigation is pursued.... it allows people to get newborns to safety and walk away, give up all parental rights & claims to the child.
Unfortunately there were just so many cases of “dumpster babies” being found, or newborns discovered in gas station restrooms, trash cans, alleyways, etc.
This is what happens when people don’t have access to basic healthcare, and legal safe abortion is so hard to access in early pregnancy, and expensive too.
The more states restrict access to birth control options, women’s healthcare, and abortion, the more often we’re going to see tragic cases like this. Girls and women will frequently be on trial for self-abortion or infanticide, and sadly, some of them will go to prison even though they are innocent. Miscarriages and stillborn births will all be turned over to police for investigation, every female with a newborn or fetal loss will be suspected of murder.

I’m confused. In the 1st interview, she insists to her parents that she was prescribed and proceeded to take birth control pills after that first med appointment. Was she lying? It isn’t addressed as far as I can see. The doctor would never have consented to that after realizing she was pregnant because of danger to fetus. Clearly her parents are bewildered.

S B apparently they are saying she did have the birth control. The dr’s office cancelled the script, but somehow the pharmacist still filled it. Her mother was called by the pharmacy saying her script was filled.

playsinrain Oh thank you, playsinrain. That’s pretty crazy and doesn’t make the doctor look too good but it makes sense. Also, I would think defense would latch onto to that detail, suggesting it could’ve caused problems to fetus, resulting in stillbirth. Maybe I’m mistaken about that, but I’d think those strong hormones would be an issue. Thank you again.

@@SB-ul1py I googled it earlier (from what i saw it wouldn't have harmed the baby) but I was thinking the same thing & thought a bigger deal would've been made about the fact she took it knowing she was pregnant... or at least that the prosecution would bring it up & say that she was taking it because she thought it would harm the fetus & result in termination of the pregnancy especially because she was googling how to have an abortion without a doctor. Also I am very confused why she took it knowing she was pregnant. I haven't seen anyone ask her WHY she was taking it...Mostly curious of what her answer would be. So far I've only seen her dad asking her about it but he never asked WHY... BUT I am just now watching the trial & all the videos. I am way behind so I don't know if they did bring it up or not.

Unfortunately not much we can tell from this trial about what actually occurred.
They really "upset the apple cart" here when the medical examiner informed the detectives of the possible burn evidence.
It calls into question the entire second interview in which she mentions anything related to a live birth. The technique used lends itself to misleading statements by the person being questioned.
They actually used a technique used to extrapolate weither or not someone is confessing to something they didn't do. They introduce something factually inaccurate and see if the person being questioned incorporates that detail into there confession. When Skylar cooperates with the detective and incorporates any thing related to burning the baby she saves herself big time calling into question everything from this interview.

So then how is it intelligent to automatically assume its the Reid Technique's fault and not her own guilt that she admitted killing her baby?
With all that being said, this trial is about her admission and its the reason we have trials, to determine the guilt (or lack thereof) of the defendant, through the evidence.

I think if they had let her speek a bit more for herself during this second interview I'd be less skeptical but anything they didn't feed her she said I don't remember or I don't know and that tells me about everything I need to know.

I think the “confession” is suspect based on Skylar wanting to give them what they wanted so she could go home - after they convinced her she probably wouldn’t go to jail & they just wanted to finish & release the remains. Also, so many of Skylar’s statements around the baby bring stillborn were not put in police report.
