Some folks thought that the MS 241 C-M got MUCH better after at least 10 tanks had gone through it and the M-Tronic had done some learning. What I understand, MS 241 C-M is a very good saw. These new "air purge" saws need quite a few tanks of fuel to break in and loosen up...
Human, I'm with you on waiting for quality. I kind of was impatient for awhile thinking "what the hell is taking them so long." Then I listen to Lateralus and go "oh, that's why they take forever." Haha
What I find interesting is the Difference in approach to top handles in the States compared to us on this side of the pond! Many of the top handles being operated by Arborists in the USA and Australia always have 16" bars and chains fitted whereas we tend to only use a 12" bar/chain and move onto a larger, standard handle saw earlier in the job if it needs it. You guys also tend to fell with longer bars where in Europe more compound cuts and shorter bars are used on the felling saws. do you think this is just a traditional thing (differences in training and knowledge being passed on) or is there a difference in the equipment and attachment specification or even standards? I love watching other arborists work - you can loads of handy stuff up! Great Vids Human!
Thanks =) I'm honestly not sure about your question though. It wouldn't surprise me if it's simply american's fascination with always having to have the biggest/most powerful. As I've only been in the industry 1 1/2 years, I'm simply following in the footsteps of those that have been teaching me.
the modded saw seems to have an edge but I wouldn't call it "blown out of the water". and yes due to small tank size it takes many tanks 10+ to break in fully
You have the muffler mod but do you have any other mods? I’ve done very little research but I found a guy who dinoed one before and after a muffler mod and it ran the same. Your video clearly shows better performance so I’m scratching my head.
I am looking for a small saw like this and I have been reading and watching all of the reviews on all the newer MS 201 C-M saws. Many, many complaints and disappointments it seems. It seems like either they love it or hate it. There are many professionals that bought more than one and have serious complaints as well with more than one saw. So what's the latest? Any updates?
Yeah, it's one of those things where I'd be just fine with a 193, but chainsaws just tap into my primal brain and scream at me to go BIGGER, FASTER, MORE POWERFUL!!! Also does help if you're doing a removal though, having the extra power/bar size means you can piece out more before having a ground saw sent up to you.
Is the cold weather shutter a reason that the 201 may not start after sitting for a while? I let it sit over winter with no gas in it and my 201T won't start now.
Lot of guys I respect these days going to the Husqvarna, but, I got my 201T modded by Brad Snelling and it's been the best saw in my collection by far. The m-tronic has me a little worried.
Yeah, both are great saw makers, think it really just comes down to personal preference, and what you're used to. I'd love to get my hands on some of the pro model husqvarnas, the email I sent to a local dealer about working together went unresponded though. Hopefully I'll be able to play with some soon. Brad snelling is one of the best, his saws are amazing when he's done with'em. I also was a bit worried about moving into the computer controlled world. With the two I've been running for about a month though, I'm pretty sold on it, 201 and 261. I also just today picked up a 661 Mtronic, we'll see how she does.
has anybody notice that all these saws seem to leak oil at the case were the engine splits iv ran over a dozen of these saws and they all seem to leak bar oil like a mother out of the case gasket on the front of the saw seems like stihl either put some crappy gasket in it or mabe the case just isnt thick enough in that spot to properly seal iv found this prob with the mtronic models and the older 201 saws
I noticed oil in that area and coming from behind the plastic casing below and behind the sprocket. I will say though that all this disappeared by the time bar and chain had bedded together and I had been cutting wood properly for a few tanks. I put it down to the unused oil coming all the way round the bar and spraying back into the sprocket area etc. This all gets soaked up by the wood & sawdust the the sawdust is in operation. In fact I've actually had to tweak the oil up to cope with dry ash stems.
I either have my ipod on shuffle when in the garage, or pandora on tool if I'm at the shop. Can't work in silence, drives me nuts. Had to buy a stereo for the shop out of my own pocket, shit was seriously getting to me working in silence.
You were obviously slacking off while cutting with the CM and you also did 5 cuts with it. On the other hand you were on top of the log with the non CM and you did 4 cuts with that. Looking at your cuts I'd give the CM the cigar... I'll help you out though since you don't seem to care for the CM, I'll take it off your hands and leave you alone with the non CM. Huh? That's what I thought after all you're only Human ;)
This saw is a piece of junk. I have 6 of them and none of them run right. How are you supposed to run a business with the garbage STIHL is selling now a days. Watching this video you can clearly see how underpowered this saw is. As far as the modifications! If I am paying this much money for a saw I should not have to do anything to it to make it run right. Glad we don't throw anything away. We have been rebuilding our o20s and as for the 201s I think I will drain the gas and oil tie them together and use them as a boat anchor !
nice video i love yer music and saw...you look like and remind me of my muscled up nephew will roth he;s in airforce inflorida chk out my band STIHLRAISER.....DARREN ROTH
If you want real power go find a top handle 020 (discontinued in about 2000). It had 50% more power than the new top handles that Stihl is making. I miss it but I don't miss the extra 50% of the added weight either. %
dude you live in florissant? thats nuts! ive been watching your vids and i live in florissant too. i climb for Accurate tree service. i just modded my 201tc thanks to your how-to video. right on brother. what are the odds of that....
damm m-tronic and auto tune garbage. more problems and less power and it costs more. whats the upside of that? there is none. my 200t will smoke all of them and its 7 years old but just had a new piston and a port job
So, I have been using this saw for quite some time now and I had no idea that there was a cold weather shutter on it. Is this something that can damage the saw if it's not correct?
I'm uploading a video of my first husqvarna right now. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I don't have access to any to make movies with them. The 445 I used in the video is my uncles, but he's the only guy I know that has one. Husqvarna and Stihl both make great saws.
+Human I saw. I love your videos man. Definitely the best channel for reviewing equipment. I haven't seen to many reviews on the husky 576XP. You should keep your eyes out for one, I have one and its a monster saw. I think you'd like it
I'll keep my eyes open, see if I can work something out with a local dealer or something. I don't know if I'll be able to swing it, sure would be nice to play with more saws though =)
I'd absolutely love to check one out. After watching reg coates video on "modding" the MS201, I've really been wanting to check out the T540. Even more so now after finding my new MS201T C-M a bit lacking. Hopefully some future mods open it up a bit, but not touching it till warranty is done.
That vid kinda sold the husky for me haha, Great saw after 4 years in the trees, the ergonomics are worlds ahead of Stihl, comes with interchangeable handles too doesn't get much better!
Yeah, that very much piqued my interest. Very much looking forward to running one someday. Not that I don't love my MS201, I absolutely do. After running my modded one for a couple months now though, just feels lacking a bit.
Eulogy in the background. Two of my favorite things; Tool and chainsaws.
Damn right, me as well. Now if only we can get the new album, lol. I'll wait for quality though, really looking forward to it.
Human, I'm with you on waiting for quality. I kind of was impatient for awhile thinking "what the hell is taking them so long." Then I listen to Lateralus and go "oh, that's why they take forever." Haha
@@Human1337 maybe I'm mishearing but sounded like B.Y.O.B by System of a Down

Faster to use a bigger saw with a bigger bar, time is money and our backs will feel it later
Really excellent video, a credit to you - Very clear & great detail .
Also, thank you for taking the covers off.
Do you like it better or worse than echo 355t? I want something with relatively hassle free longevity. I can always adjust an old fashioned carb.
the modded saw seems to have an edge but I wouldn't call it "blown out of the water". and yes due to small tank size it takes many tanks 10+ to break in fully
How is this saw compared to the husky T 540xp? Also I like the lanyard you have from the saw to attach when climbing, how about a link to the lanyard?
You have the muffler mod but do you have any other mods? I’ve done very little research but I found a guy who dinoed one before and after a muffler mod and it ran the same. Your video clearly shows better performance so I’m scratching my head.
Like watching the videos but y does the music HAVE to be on
you got a problem with Dethklok?

That is a seriously expensive saw...I've got the 193 and couldn't splurge for the 201 but definitely awesome saw!

Wow, SOAD BYOB - it is long long time I heard it last time :-)

I wouldn't think so
Where is the shutter again????

Yeah, I just gave up trying to stop the leaks, futile battle.
Human have u ever replaced the gasket im wondering if its worth pullin the saw apart

why did it take so long to cut through that log, that was ridiculous

Crappy saws. Ever since I got that thing nothing but problems, I just got it out the shop and still giving me the same problem.

What would you recommend more? This one or a husq t540?
I can't really recommend one over the other. Each has features that I like that the other doesn't. I'd say you really can't go wrong either way.
Not "Dogs"Bucking Spike the Dogs are in the Recoil assembly 😎👨🏼🔧👩🏻🔧
You only got 90 days warranty. May as well just change the mucflery
Any suggestion on this saw or husqvarna t540xp...

What do you like for your all time favorite climbing saw? With or w/o mods.
Very annoying to hear uh, .....uh....uh....
Am I the only one that tries to figure out every song playing
Which one do you think is better without any mods?
Get your hands on the new MS500i
B.Y.O.B.
Do you have problems with the oiler on the new saws? I know the older ones would fail.......a lot
Haven't had any issues yet, did repair one on our 200T though.
Human hmmm,I've seen quite a few quit on 200s and 201Ts,not plugged up either, just quit working ,gotta open em up to replace
I live in stl area as well and also am a tree trimmer was wondering if you take chainsaws in to do muf mod and timing
Not really, I'm far from a professional so I generally only do things like that to my own saws. Not a big deal if I screw up my own stuff, lol
Human alright thanks man love your shit and would love to meet ya sometime mayb hit a side job or some shit someday thanks for reply be safe
Should have got the 200t, the mod vrs none mod comparisons that ive seen the modded ones are always worse, or slower
dude you live in florissant? thats nuts! ive been watching your vids and i live in florissant too. i climb for Accurate tree service. i just modded my 201tc thanks to your how-to video. right on brother. what are the odds of that....
LOL, nice! One of my very first vids, the scored 661 video, was done with the new 661 that accurate bought at the time.
damm m-tronic and auto tune garbage. more problems and less power and it costs more. whats the upside of that? there is none. my 200t will smoke all of them and its 7 years old but just had a new piston and a port job
So, I have been using this saw for quite some time now and I had no idea that there was a cold weather shutter on it. Is this something that can damage the saw if it's not correct?
Only (from what I understand) if you run it in hot weather with the cold weather shutter open, can overheat then.
What are your thoughts on Husqvarna? I run husky and I love em. I know your a stihl guy. But do you own any huskys?
I'm uploading a video of my first husqvarna right now. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I don't have access to any to make movies with them. The 445 I used in the video is my uncles, but he's the only guy I know that has one. Husqvarna and Stihl both make great saws.

+Human I bet. Shit I get that new dirt bike feeling every time I start my 576. It's 74cc of pure power.
Modding the muffler made a noticeable difference to me w/the 201T-CM. The consistent ease of start makes it a sweet saw for me.
You should check out the husky T540 if you get a chance, I was stuck between the two and the husky seemed like a lot more saw for the money!
I'd absolutely love to check one out. After watching reg coates video on "modding" the MS201, I've really been wanting to check out the T540. Even more so now after finding my new MS201T C-M a bit lacking. Hopefully some future mods open it up a bit, but not touching it till warranty is done.
