Thanks for the video! Greetings from Russia, Kursk! I 've been watching you for a long time , I really like your videos ! There is a lot of information on the Internet about sharpening a chainsaw chain at an angle of 45 degrees for hardwood. That the chainsaw saws faster and better than at an angle of 30 degrees . You can conduct such an experiment. Compare the chains with a sharpening angle of 30 degrees, 35 degrees, 40 degrees and 45 degrees. It would be very interesting to see the results .

Excellent video mate, I've always loved my 355t, have two of them now, one still NIB. The one I use has been used almost daily for 3 years and the cylinder and piston still look beautiful, only thing I've had to replace is the oiler. Prayers from Maine for you and your family, be well brother.

I, too, was curious about the air filter cover and the baffle in front of the carb, so today I tried modding them. Bear in mind that my 355t has the plastic mesh air filter, not the older style flocked air filter. That may make a difference.
I had already opened up the muffler, removed the limiters, and advanced the timing 0.020". For today's tests I started out by tuning the H screw for 13,800 - 13,900 rpm WOT. Then after each mod, I checked to see if the WOT rpm had changed.
After enlarging the filter cover opening, WOT was 13,900, give or take 100. No obvious improvement. I think most of the air enters the cover from the boot that connects to the flywheel air, so the stock cover opening is adequate. In hindsight, I would not bother enlarging the filter cover opening.
With enlarged cover opening + remove carb baffle, WOT was still 13,900, give or take 100.
Then I reinstalled the carb baffle but with the lip removed from the top of the baffle. WOT was still 13,900. In hindsight, I would not bother removing or modding the carb baffle. I believe the baffle exists to prevent backflow from wetting the air filter, and that's probably a good thing.
Then I tried removing the mesh air filter, but with the cover & baffle in place. WOT increased noticeably, hitting the limiter on the coil at 14,500+. The mesh air filter seems to be a big restriction. Removing the air filter was only a short test for the sake of science, and no one should actually cut wood without an air filter -- though I would be interested in a comparison of the mesh vs. the old flocked filter. Unfortunately, I don't think the two types of air filters interchange without also changing all the plastic parts on the intake.
Then I reinstalled the mesh air filter, but sprayed it lightly with cooking oil (Pam type product). The saw would not start with the oiled filter! I had to remove the air filter to get it to start, let the saw run for a while to clean it out, re-install a clean filter, let it run for a while, and retune the carb because it still seemed to be running a little rich. The 355t is definitely very sensitive to the condition of the air filter.
My conclusions and recommendations: yes to a muffler mod and retuning the carb, but otherwise the major restriction is the mesh air filter. Keep the air filter clean and if necessary, carry spare filters and swap them in the field, because it doesn't take much dust on the filter to restrict flow. Do not oil the air filter. :-)

Excellent advice for the type of testing you did at high idle!
For actual cutting I recommend removing the baffles and opening up the exhaust. The saw has significantly more power when loaded and the oily air filter isn’t an issue. I did these mods and few months ago and my newer style air filter is still clean, I’m running 32:1 Amsoil Saber. I’m not saying your air filter baffle hypothesis is correct or incorrect. The air filter might require cleaning once or twice more per year depending on use, so for I’ve noticed no difference.
The numbers with and without the air filter are very interesting! Do you think the fuel lines could have been squeezed at all during your testing?

    • @danlynch6194
      @danlynch6194 8 месяцев назад +2

@@PurpleNovember "removing the baffles and opening up the exhaust."
When you make 2 changes at once you don't know which change did what.
I ensured that the fuel lines were not squeezed.
The mesh air filter plugs up quickly -- it doesn't look plugged up but even a little bit of dust on the filter restricts flow as evidenced by lower WOT. The mesh also lets fine dust enter the engine and coat the piston and ring with sawdust gunk. I use my 335 hard when doing trail maintenance, sometimes running 10 hours a day several days in a row. I had to re-ring when the saw was only 2 weeks old due to that problem. I have since bought spare air filters and plan to swap air filters at least once a day, but there will remain the problem of the mesh letting dust pass.

    • @PurpleNovember
      @PurpleNovember 8 месяцев назад

@@danlynch6194 Very good, a lot of people don’t know that! I don’t make multiple changes at once if I’m testing.
That’s crazy swapping air filters twice a day! We’ve run ours for weeks in our dusty conditions and only cleaned the air filter at the end of the day. I’d hate to work in your dusty conditions. In those conditions I wonder how much life the air filter baffles are add to the saw. Take care of your lungs! I wish you best.

Just noticed the muffler on the ones over there are different, mine has a smaller hole at the top and a bigger hole at the bottom but not a big slot like that one. Also did have a cat which I removed, also noticed on a forum the usa ones seems to have a windowed piston. Mine doesn't it just has two small cut outs that match the primary transfers, I've ported it now though hopefully gonna resemble over weekend, nice vid hopper 👍

Thank you!! I did the air filter modz from your last video, already had the limiters and muffler mod. And wow that made a huge difference.
Can’t believe manual shows max 14.5k 3k L, I went up to 13.8k H and felt the idle hang more and brought it down to 13.5k H and at 3k L. 355t’s are great saws.
Also have pull black air filter diverter’s off 590’s and 620’s and made a difference just the carb split back seams to clog filter faster. What spray did you use to clean?

Very good little saw. They cut good for a 38cc saw. I own one. Keep a saw sharp and they cut good. Very reliable. I have a ported ms 250. Runs way better. But gotta wear ear plugs everytime I start the saw. Just opened the baffle up and bent fins open. After I ported the cylinder. Nice to have power but nice to have a saw that doesn't make you def in the future. Toss up.

My 355t has a mid range stumble I can't get rid of, stumbles going up, and hitches going down. By hitch I mean gets stuck at mid for a moment as if its lean in the mid range.
My saw has the limiter caps removed, that intake thing you pulled first, and I matched the muffler opening to the exhaust port, as well as rounding the openings to the there isn't a 90 transition from exhaust port to muffler. I haven't yet expanded the muffle exit yet.
    Airbox is still stock.

I pry that deflector off and take the bottom one off and just use the outer one then I open up the outlet on the plate with that magic material removal device and bring the opening to the bottom of the defector . Find tune the chain , rebuild the carb it - ta be fine .

Yep I saw what you did on that other channel . I've got two of those little Echo climbing saws but I can't remember what numbers they are ( one orange one gray ) , one I've already restore and had to replace the carb boot on that one and the other I got a month ago at a auction and just thowed it down on the floor in the shop because it's to hot here on the Gulf Coast of Texas to be working on saws BUT I'm gonna check that air cleaner mod thang out on them . I did do the air cleaner mod on my Stihl 271 and I even did more than you do to the air cleaner mount on the 271 and it made a big difference with the muffkin mod I did to it . Where did you get those extra long bits you use there in that driver and how long are they .

I love performance but if I do this to my top handle saw there is 1 major downside, I run an old McCullough mac130 so doing stuff like this to a beautiful piece of history is just barbaric, in my opinion it’s doing damage so that’s why I don’t do anything to my mac130 😅

    Quote from New Life newsletter:
    A Helping Hand
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Matthew 25:35-40
There is nothing that compares to the joy of sincerely helping another person. Yes, there are those who will take advantage of you if you let them, and allowing them to do that does not do anyone any good. Yet around you are those who truly need your help. Around you are ways in which you can make a real, positive difference. When you lift up another, at least two people benefit, and usually many more. Sincerely making a positive difference in the lives of others is a healthy, beneficial virus which can quickly replicate and spread far beyond your own efforts. Can you name one single thing that would be more personally fulfilling than making a real, substantial positive difference in someone’s life? It is a beautiful pursuit, and there are countless ways to do it. Whoever you are, whatever skills or resources you possess or don’t possess, there are ways for you to make a difference for others. Discover those ways, make use of the grand opportunity you have, and savor the intensity of a life well lived.
Father in heaven, forgive us for the times we have prayed for You to help someone, when You have given us what they need. Help us to be conduits for Your glory! Help us to be Your hands and feet today and help someone in need. In Jesus name, AMEN!

    When You’re All Alone
But when you give to the poor and do acts of kindness, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing [give in complete secrecy], so that your charitable acts will be done in secret; and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:3-4
The real person you are is revealed in the moments when you’re certain no other person is watching. When no one is watching, you are driven by what you expect of yourself. You’re not attempting to impress anyone. You’re not putting on a show. The foundation of success is built in the moments when no one else is watching. If your efforts are only made for appearance, they will fall short. When you make the effort even though no one else is keeping track, that’s a sure path to achievement. What do you do when no one is watching? Success is built in the moments when you’re truly free to be you. Make those moments count. Being a real winner is much better than just trying to look like one.
Father in heaven, thank You that there is nothing that escapes Your view. We may put on an act or work harder to try to impress others, but You truly know everything about us. Help us in those moments when it’s just You and us, to really take a look at who we have become. Help us to step up and work hard, full of integrity when nobody but You is watching. In Jesus name, AMEN!
The true measure of character is what you do when nobody’s watching.
