It’s a good idea to keep the heat shield on there. Not necessarily because of the heat coming off the muffler but because it helps keep the cooling air flowing over the fins on the cylinder properly.
Thank you! That answered 1 of a couple of million questions i've had about why folks change their saws! I've seen your variety of mufflers, but always thought it was associated with porting them, rather than just an improvement right away with only a muffler! Once again, thank you good sir! Love to all from Northern Alberta!
I grew up loving hotrods and drag racing..so the pops and cracks from that "key to the bush" pipe just strike a chord with me..sounds pretty damn rowdy and looks so cool with the scrench outlets..thank for more wicked content Buckin and I see you just dropped a truck packing video so I'll see you there too...have a great day yall and happy Canada day
One of the best comparison vids yet. Iron Horse's muff. really flows. I don't think the exhaust has to slow down to change direction. It just swirls around and out. It would be nice to see if it had vanes, like screw threads to direct it so the flow would just follow the path right out. Happy 4th to the BBR, Army.
Awesome Video Buckin!! I have modified every engine I've owned! I didn't even think about small engines until I stared watching your channel!! Thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻
I love watching professionals run their saw you learn so much about proper technique and safety he does the same thing every time all the time smooth and direct inefficient. So thanks today's black and Bill two lessons for every video that you do when you're on the saw.
Love your videos but really love your messages and what you stand for Sir! Really enjoyable and I love learning all I can! You have great knowledge and your methods and opinions are truly perfect! Thank you for putting these out.
New to your channel... a refreshing change of pace, love your accent, love your trucks, love your chainsaws, love your love of life. Some would say your mufflers don't work (need to use an expansion chamber) but your experience tells me you would be right and the ney sayers would be wrong. Besides, these are working saws and there is no room for an expansion chamber without giving up the versatility of the saw. I love your saw rack and I love thst you stick to the basics when sawing!
Something else interesting is when you enter the information into an online pipe building calculator it asks for the size and length of the ports and takes that into account. That may be why a particular pipe design works differently than another on a ported saw or non ported saw.
Sweet pipes! Really cool design. I built a pipe for my ms250, made a hi-flow air filter and advanced the timing a little. Seems to have gained a couple thousand rpm. I like that round swirl one the best.
Buckin awesome video I just built a muffler for my husky 372 I built that saw like your husky 371. The pipe I made is something like the ironhorse muffler but with my own design different lengths and angles I used iron pipe. It woke the saw up but the H-jet is super rich for break-in . Buckin you are right the exhaust swirls in the pipe if it is right I see carbon marks in side COOL stuff.
The interesting thing with 2 stroke dirt bikes and pipes and muffler is the amount of charge in where the power is. Lower mid range or top end rev just by changing the shape and length and even the thickness of the tubing can change the power but the length of the header portion (first out of the cylinder ) makes big difference in the low end torque
As a motorcycle mechanic it's nice seeing other people understanding it. The pipe really Is a musical instrument that operates off sound waves. When you mentioned thickness you are changing sound.
Great representation of the quik change on and the design of these mufflers Buckin. Takes a bit of time to make them but it is absolutely worth it for the power and throttle response. Thank you. Love ya brother. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
I really enjoyed this video!! Those mufflers r cool. I just got 390xp with modified muffler on it, what a lovly sound. I got lucky they stopped making them, I bought from guy that runs arborist department I deal with, he used it to only cut ice for ice fishing lol
If you want a noticable difference put a velocity stack on the carb. Paired with the pipe, that saw would pull chain no matter what grind you put on it. Love the content BUCKIN. Keep on keepin on.
Hey Buckin’ just wanted to let you know that I’m about to embark on my first voyage in building a pipe for my 372. I like the designs of pipes you have here and I’m sure mine will be similar. Just bought the material I’ll need yesterday. Will send you a link to the results. Thanks brother
Buckin, I grilled a steak and fixings and turned you on to watch with dinner. My wife has never seen your channel even though I've been subscribed since your infancy. The only thing that my wife said about this video was, "He's got neat hair"! I thought that was funny! Keep up the good work bro!
Bucking Billie ray Smith, dam man! I love you, your a great inspiration to a younger generation. I am 70yrs old in Aug 19-2022. I learn a lot, about tree cutting, but even more than that, about life.. Be kind one to another, and enjoy life, for it is a gift. I would like to meet you some day and Morgan, and a few others... Keep doing what you do Brother... god is in it, and it is a mission from Yah/god.. i am looking forward to the 800 mile trip. Prayers and love from SE Texas Bear
I have stihl and husky saws I like both but what I hate about the husky’s is how when you put a muffler on them they got that high pitch girly cry and the stihl has that deep roar but there both good
👏🏻 been binging your videos on Halloween for the first time and loving it . I’m 39 with 20 years diesel ,auto and industrial truck mechanic , fabricator , welder and body man . I worked for asplundh tree company for 6 months once on mechanic hiatus , absolutely hated it , but I learned to properly fell trees . Ever since I’ve been obsessed with it as a hobby . Recently inherited my gramps old 90’s model Poulans and rebuilt the 2000 and got it running and the 2300cva which got me so high ! Now all my buddies brought me there Husq’s and you’ve handed me a great deal of wisdom 🫡 . Actually considering buying a farm Mac 380 , I know some may slam me for it but I can drop 1000$ on a pro grade 🤷🏻♂️ . Anyway , loving your videos sir , thanks for the knowledge !
The length of the header has a lot to do with where the pipe hits its torque. Back in my scooter tuning days I noticed that a longer header would come on later in RPM and a shorter one would be earlier.
Earlier i wrote that i'll make a muffler muself, and i did, today! And i feel the difference, it pulls better and throttle response is also better! And i probably will wear hearing protection now! lol It's a small saw, Hecht 945, 45cc 2.2kW, but difference is there! Thank You Billy Ray for showing these mufflers! I'm excited! =) wow!
Love your video's, I've learned alot In the last month or so. I'm curious to your opinion on the the Stihl ms170 saw, it's my second saw I've owned but I'm liking it for the smaller wood I've been falling around Kamloops BC
Hi friend, thanks for greate videos. i am going to get my 372xp ported etc. and i really want to build a key to the bush muffler, and i have a few questions😅 is there a video of the making of the key to the bush? I kinda figured out some of it by watching. But i would like to know if the "key" is welded on the outside or if it sticks inside a bit. Greatings from norway, stay safe
Billy man....been watching you for quite some time....I've learned a $#!+ load...thx for making theae videos....as far as these mufflers and gasket deletes go, would they be ok on a stock saw or better on a ported saw...dont want to damage my 2- 372xp's and just double checking.
Due to time constraints my husband just bought a new 372xp. Who sells a muffler out there in the USA area that he can purchase without getting ridiculous in price. We love your channel and the experience you have is mind boggling. So my husband just does not have enough time to fabricate and experiment. Any suggestions would help.Thank You and Lord Bless you abudantly, it definitely shows you love people.
Hey buckin billy ray do u remember the muffler I think someone showed 2 u in 1 of ur videos the design of a side by side double barrel shotgun look 2 it and I think that was the coolest thing I've ever seen on a power saw do u think u could find that video again
I have a new 372xp and was wondering if I could get a “key to the bush” muffler and would you recommend it for a new saw with maybe four tanks of gas run through it?
I have the 2018 372 xp n I would love to get either one of those muffler's if u could send me a link to where I could purchase that would be great 👍👍 heep up the great work
The reason the saw runs better with the exhaust pointed to the side is because most any engine needs a little back pressure, a tiny bit of resistance. Like a car needing a muffler, it adds a bit of resistance
Nothing like having a hot rod in your hands. I opened up my Stihl 390, between the carburetor and exhaust, opened both of them up and that saw runs flawless and endless power with a 20" bar.. be safe. Kind and keep on cutting...
I have this video in the background on all my electronics and I play it from 8:45 anytime someone tries to see what I am looking at on you tube and nobody is surprised.
5 hours behind are you taking those on the trip with your cross Canada if you're make sure you take your Spurs or saddle and your flip line just in case Good video
2 stroke muffler design is part science and part black magic
It’s a good idea to keep the heat shield on there. Not necessarily because of the heat coming off the muffler but because it helps keep the cooling air flowing over the fins on the cylinder properly.

Now I'm gonna make one myself for my saw! And that 2nd one made from round pipe with wrenches welded to it looks amazing! Wow!
Oh yeah! Crazy performance mufflers!Since i did my berclaw style stainless steel muffler for my 372 oh dear lord the saw became a monster!!!!!!!

Man’s man right there💪🏽 awesome info brother! Thank you!
Buckin' Billy Brappin! Love this video, hopefully you'll do another shootout with different pipes soon!

Buckin, can we see the tuning process going from stock muffler to a modified muffler? Do you need to adjust the low jet?
Thanks for being kind people.🙂
I can tell the difference in the mufflers. I love the old Merc and Ford pickups my friend 👍
Love the bark you get crankin where there is some valleys and ridges it would send out like a harley. Larry Logger the lone timber wolf
Love your video's, I've learned alot In the last month or so. I'm curious to your opinion on the the Stihl ms170 saw, it's my second saw I've owned but I'm liking it for the smaller wood I've been falling around Kamloops BC
170-entry level,Light duty questionable quality....
Thank you Buckin'!
What you need is a tuned pipe like a miniature version of one on a 2 stroke dirtbike.
Excellent video my friend 😀💯👊
Awesome love these types of videos

Buckin, that's one sick design for mufflers.i gotta practice my hand file.begood👍🇺🇸
Enjoyed this video.....but need to rest now as I found it really exhausting.
I like the designs
Cathedral style
Exhaust will be ready for the log deck.

The claw muffler sounds the best in my opinion.
Great mod Sounds like music
Oh man I want a muffler like those for my husky 455 rancher
Thanks!
I have a new 372xp and was wondering if I could get a “key to the bush” muffler and would you recommend it for a new saw with maybe four tanks of gas run through it?
Billy , I'm sure you've commented in the past but I recently picked up a 372xp x-torq. Thoughts on that saw ???
Buckin why do you pull up on the pull cord when you kill the saw? Love the content!
Its to go easy on the starter pawls. It absorbs the kick back as the crankshaft comes to a halt.
@@Motumatai3 I always wondered ak about that and will be doing it myself for now on.
I sure wish you could help me find some parts for my old husk 45 special that would be so cool.
Buckin I think that saw has a blue coil witch is limited , they run a little different with the black coil .
I have the 2018 372 xp n I would love to get either one of those muffler's if u could send me a link to where I could purchase that would be great 👍👍 heep up the great work
Good day Billy, love your content. What's the dimensions of those mufflers?
The reason the saw runs better with the exhaust pointed to the side is because most any engine needs a little back pressure, a tiny bit of resistance. Like a car needing a muffler, it adds a bit of resistance
NO!
Are these available for a Husky 353, and where would I obtain one? Thx and great video!
Thank you Thank you!!!
Good job bro
Great mufflers test!! I made something similar like that and it freaking pulls wood!! hope everyone doing Good!!
It actually needs a expansion chambers to really make some power!
What year is the ranger? I love it.
Hi Buckin, how is the wood bullet coming along?
Buckin, I have a 371,390, 395. Would the same.
muffler work on all 3 saws. Where do I get one? Does Iron Horse build them to sell?
Iowa Performance Saws does muffler mods.
The mad scientist in me wants to walk out to the shop& start designing& building a new muffler for the ol JonnyRed
This Husky cuts like Super Fly!
Is the gasket stuck on the muffler already? How did you do that Buckin?
Nice mufflers,even nicer,myrtle is ready.
Nothing like having a hot rod in your hands. I opened up my Stihl 390, between the carburetor and exhaust, opened both of them up and that saw runs flawless and endless power with a 20" bar.. be safe. Kind and keep on cutting...
lots of fab work just gut stock muffler
Ohhhh that was ripping through that 🪵✊ skiddlydoo skiddly riff raff 🤣
About 0.4 seconds to cut a slice off the wood 😲😍 where can you get them?
Awesome 👏🏻 awesome thanks
That helps. Is it the same for a stihl as well.
@buckin' Billy ray smith
Are there any exhausts that you can just straight up buy for a 562xp?
I have this video in the background on all my electronics and I play it from 8:45 anytime someone tries to see what I am looking at on you tube and nobody is surprised.
That 372 is walkn the dog wit jus a sharp chain an a pipe!!
Hey buckin billy ray how would I have one of those mufflers made
That muffler looks like it air cleans the blade and chain. And it sounds un restricted.
5 hours behind are you taking those on the trip with your cross Canada if you're make sure you take your Spurs or saddle and your flip line just in case Good video
I want that Ranger so bad.
Have you given the new 592XP a run?
awesome .peace an love.
