You can only use items you pick up off enemies. No chests. No items sitting on the floor.
You must start off as the depraved so you have to find literally everything
Could be fun, the hardest part would be getting a weapon in the beginning haha

this is one of my all time favorite challenge runs and I have 100% started to say "that'll cost extra" because of you haha. I adore your videos. they're entertaining and energetic without having extrovert energy. they're a really fun time where I learn a lot ^_^

Dual whips with jump attacks is crazy good combo. Did a whole playthrough and it was so much fun.

Using only the things you can find in limgrave and caelid for early game, instead of running around for hours grabbing things from everywhere.
I like that. Goes a long way to making this run feel unique.
I like that it doesn't take as long to get into the actual fun part of the run haha

That would be a great animation for them. I assume though the reason they don't have that is because it doesn't fit all enemy types and from doesn't wanna make unique animations for different enemy sizes :(

Agreed! i think the reason why they don't is because the animations for weapon class are universal across enemy sizes, but whips would change that. Sure for every human sized enemy the above works, but for something like a dragon..not so much lol (that's my thinking for why it doesn't have a critical at least)

I would literally kill an orphan for the whips to have a critical attack animation where you fucking wrap them around the enemy’s neck and kick their ass/stomach, breaking their spine or whatever in the process
I...I wouldn't go that far personally but yes I also want a critical animation for whips and I have no idea why we haven't got one yet (I can only rationalize that they want the animation to be uniform across all boss sizes and whips might make that difficult)
I'm doing my first run as Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. That means double whips and potentially poison. I've been using lightning and wolf summons since there's no fox, so creative liberties. My final build will swap lightning for poison for sure.
Also yes, I intend to get magma whip candle and red braid too.

This video made me try whips. Though I powerstance them and also have a dagger to riposte so I'm playing on an "easier" build.
So far 8 hours in, I only beat Margit and Godrick as well as Leonine Misbegotten from Morne, Farum Beastman near your favorite test dummy Jeff and Golem in the Blue Dancer charm cave.
Honestly, I'm impressed despite the slow progress because like I said in a different video, I relied on Tiche and Rivers of Blood in my first playthrough so it's basically just a DPS spamfest.
Now I actually have to learn the moves properly.
And on a final note, I want to do Frenzied Flame ending. Oh Lord the Leyndell sewers are gonna suck. I avoided it like the plague in my two other playthroughs 😅

I feel like the whips riposte would be you grabbing the opposite end and using it backwards with the handle being the part that hits them instead of the normal part
That's pretty much the only logical way if they need to be uniform across all enemy sizes (which is my theory as to why they don't have a critical like other weapon classes do)

I recently tried the whip in DS3, and after ER, man it was pretty bad. Its combo chain is too slow, and it doesn’t stagger enemies much. ER whips are surprisingly decent, and a lotta fun dual wielding.
I've heard they really gutted the whip in Elden Ring compared to DS3, I wonder why they did that...
I know you adding them in will cost us extra but could you bring back the funny little nicknames for bosses

That would be the most logical animation for a whip critical, but it wouldn't really work for large enemies, just those that are relatively close to he player size (this is probably why it doesn't have a critical animation, they'd need to make specific animations for specific fights as opposed to one blanket animation like the other weapon classes)

Belmont Build
I was thinking of a build I'd call a "Witch Hunter" that uses no magic, lots of items, dual whips, and lots of status debuffs.
I did think about adding some other stuff in and just going Belmont build, but decided to stay whips only for the challenge half :)

So in general yes, and this is what myself and others think would fit but the problem is it doesn't work for non human sized enemies. Looking only at riposts, large enemies don't make sense for that to work, like. Imagine wrapping the whip around a dragon and yanking it to the ground, idk if from would be okay with that continuity because suddenly your tarnished has the strength of a thousand gods lol
I'm willing to bet the reason they don't have a critical is because it would involve making an animation for every different enemy class size. If you look at other weapons the criticals are all the same within their class. A thrust, a bonk, etc, but for a whip you could do the neck wrap, but how does that work with Elden beast who's weak spot is his stomach ya know?
In short, yes I like it but I don't think it'll work. Sorry about the book response lol

the first one? dang that would be so confusing haha obv everyone knows now it's a bug but just imagine fighting a boss and it just yeets itself into the neither. I wouldn't trust it and instead expect a second phase to start haha

A cool crit animation for whips would be if your character wrapped the whip around the enemy's neck and choked the shit outta them. i guess that'd only work for other players. maybe for bigger or irregular enemies your character would just whip them repeatedly.
Indeed, Golden Order incants need INT because Marika/Radagon wanted people to stop relying on faith and use intelligence to understand the order.
Yeah that's what I thought but like you said it wouldn't work on things bigger than a humanoid player, and I noticed the crits are basically uniform across weapon type so that's probably why haha
