If you only heard her singing voice, you would never in a million years believe this was the same person. Her speaking voice is so delicate and sweet, while her singing voice exudes pure raw power and strength. One of my favorite singers of all time.
Yes, I have always loved one song on her earlier album that ended with a real growl, the applause and a sweet little "Thank you!" from her!! Loved her and all performers on the Jeff Beck tribute!!
Yes, but she can sing delicately as well. She is a true vocal genius. Been a fan since the jump. Huge Allman fan and my musical taste spread from there. Derek, Warren, Susan, and the beautiful musical tree just kept growing.
Derek seems so quiet and serious on stage that I didn't expect him to be so talkative. Seems like a great guy. And I've always loved Susan. God bless them both.
They are perfect examples of humans. Humble, soulful, empathetic but most of all incredible, beautiful people. We should all strive to reach their standard
Susan sounds so soft-spoken with such a light, reserved voice…it’s amazing to hear her belt the blues out on stage or on the albums. She’s a world-class powerhouse, and the band is a force of nature!
I think Derek talked more in this interview than all the others I’ve seen put together. They are a wonderful couple, they really do compliment each other.
This is what the people who truly respect music look like. Absolutely no self-inflated ego whatsoever. People who just want to explore the depths of this musical ocean, and taking us mere mortals to show the treasures at the bottom. And I'm sure all the band members are also very down to earth too, because similar minds attract each other. And it might sound mystic, but from personal experience - your psych does seep into the music you create and makes the listener feel those emotions for themselves.
I am in my 50s and consider myself to have an eccletic taste in music, but for whatever reason, I didn't stumble across this band until relatively recently. I saw them play at Wembley in Feb 2020 and it was one of the best live performances I have ever seen. The chemistry displayed on stage that night, is apparent also in this interview. They love each other and they love music. Beautiful to watch
Catherine S. Todd - This "internet thang" has brought forth past talent, artists have recreated gems for us now with powerful projection into future from all genres. How good is that?!
If I had to sum this interview up in one word it would be "mature". They are seriously committed not only to the music (which, unless you're deaf, is obvious) but to each other and the entire organization they have created. Seeing them admire and compliment all of the above warms my heart. Maturity is often overlooked but always appreciated.
I have had the pleasure of seeing both Susan and Derek separately before they joined forces. What they have created can only be described as classic big band music in a modern style. Incredibly beautiful, full of harmonies, that becomes infectious. Can't wait to see you again at Artpark.
since my 19 year old left himself logged in - I'm going to post in his name - because he slipped into the end of your 2015 show in Savannah after he got off his job simply to give me a ride home...and texted me from the back of the venue - "MOM - you didn't tell me it was this kind of music!!! " He was hooked, and your music broadened his perspective of how jazz meets blues meets his musical experiences. Thank you!
Today I fell in love. And it was with these two people. I just stumbled upon their tiny desk gig and what a baptism of fire that was! What an amazing relationship they have. Absolute respect and admiration for each other. In 5 hours they've taught me incredible things about music and they've taught me that a real relationship is a collaboration and not just a co-exsistance. Thank you so much
Fine interview. You allowed Both of them to fully have their say. As a result, I learned so much about the music they play and the whole band. A non-intrusive interviewer like this one can be so effective. Again, thank you.
I think that , more importantly, they give one another full op to speak. They are great musicians and the call and response extends to their relationship.
Loved this interview. I just can't get enough of them. They are hands down my favorite band. I love their music philosophy and how they bring that to light. I love hearing them grow and passing that growth on to us as listeners. Just an all around great vibe. And they seem like nice people too. Nice to see they have taken control of the production of their own music. It shows in the final product. Keep up the great work. I'll buy the albums and come to the shows for as long as they are putting it out there.
I went to their show in Amsterdam this evening. Fantastic show and yes there were a lot of 50+ audience. I thought I was at the wrong concert😊. The age group of the audience was diverse like Derek says in the interview. The drummers were awesome. Never heard anything like it before. Even from a distance you could feel the connection they had. Well done!🤗🤗🤗
Derek seems to deeply respect all forms of the word "listen." My observation is this helps him professionally, but, more importantly, personally in how he is as a husband, father, and band mate among the richly talented. It forms his genuineness. Susan and Derek complement each other so well. She touches one's soul. What a couple of sincere people.
I only watch their interviews so I can hear her speak with a higher tone voice than when she sings. Always blows my mind. And Derek loves to talk, so it's very refreshing!
These two are really living the dream. To love your work and the people you do it with is such a huge blessing. Big fans of them just as people. Very solid
The blues and jazz are at the heart of all great modern music. The TTB does such a great job blending those styles and others in their music. It is an absolute pleasure listening to their music! Thank you Susan and Derek for keeping great music alive and making life more bearable!👍💖🎸😎
My heart swells when I see these two. I've known Derek since he was 9 years old playing with us local adult (ish) musicians at Magnolias YST in Jacksonville. An old soul and a kind heart with a maturity well beyond his years. I'm happy for them I wish them well and continued success.
I lived in Jax during that time and used to see that little blond haired kid tearing up the slide with the local bands, as well as with Buddy Guy. Love to see how he turned out to be such a humble, down to earth guy.
Great Interview....Interviewer let these two just talk from the heart....They shared so much great personal and interpersonal experience .....thank you.
What a great phylosophy for a band, family and experience. Great ful for the way they pay homage to the past. That's uncommon and a lesson in humility. Great sounds. Thanks 💪🙏😑💡
I absolutely love this band and am struck by their soul, emotion and musicality. This band is water tight and the real deal. After hearing this interview, I truly appreciate how genuine and loving they are and why the band is what it is. In my opinion they are one of the greatest American bands to ever exist and I can never get enough of their music. Long Live TTB!
Amazing collaboration of human beings, such a model for relating and expressing really just about anything. I actually teared up. Inspiring. I play their music on my bike rides, singing along - joyful times.
When men and women have such a connection professionally and personally like these two, it warms the heart! Much success to these wonderfully talented people. You're a gift to us! God bless ya'll!
Derek you rock man !!! Susan, I could listen to you throughout eternity !!! I love your voice !!! The two of you make,in my opinion, an excellent duo !!! I hope that you love each other forever… Keep on rockin !!!!!
Also saw the show last night in Sydney. Awesome. DT is a wizard with the slide and Sue sang her heart out. Their rendition of Midnight in Harlem was sublime. This band is right up there with the best there is.
Had the privilege to see this amazing band a couple of months ago. One big collaborative group of the best musicians I've seen in decades. No way to label their music. Just pure talent and no ego! So rare today. You can tell they love what they are doing.
"Real music does have an audience" Damn right brother especially when it's played by such a tight band. Keep it going you guys work hard at your craft - I've been to countless shows by you guys and have had a great experience at all of them.
This is one of the more intelligent, articulate and informative interviews I have heard from entertainers. No ego; Respect for each other and the fellow musicians; Incredible talent. These two are the total package! And by the way, their music is pretty good too!!!
That statement about being married and your mate is in the band with you is so correct. Music is so challenging and marriage is too. With respect and love it can work. Love this band. Thanks Austin City Limits for their interview. I love watching Austin City Limits. I've learned about so many artist because of your concerts series over the many years.
This is the perfect interview. You don't have an interviewer getting in the way. It's great to see these two carry on the roots of music from so long ago. Yep, THE GOOD STUFF. It's great to see they are so happy. It's a great recipe for continued success.
Every time you hear their stuff, recorded or live, it's fresh. The interplay between the members of such a large band is crucial and they all, vocalists and players, are on the same wavelength. There's a magical, inspiring element here and you can't walk away without feeling uplifted. It's bloody amazing! It's great that there's so much footage on the web. Every performance is different and I can't get enough.
So true. I’ve been seeing them for years and it’s always so good. That’s partly because Derek really loves jazz and knows how to improvise line a jazz artist at the highest level. And then there is Indian inspired Sitar music. Such depth as a musician.
It's so refreshing to see Derek, who is a humble master of the guitar, being willing and open to shelving his personal fame for the benefit his music, the band and the hero's who came before him. He's so grateful and brilliant all rolled up into one. Someone I would want my kids to look up to and respect for all of what he has to offer to the people and the band around him. A true BEACON!
Derek is a Righteous dude. Susan is a Righteous lady. Their approach and their work speaks to this fundamental value, and guides a professionalism and respect for the music that is unparalleled!
The music that this band makes is beautiful and imaginative. If you get the chance to see TTB definitely go because they are amazing live. I just saw them at the Paramount in Seattle for two nights and it has left me feeling a lot of positivity to get through the entire year. This band's music has moved me in a way that no other band has. They are so uplifting.
Totally agree. Saw them in Houston a couple of months ago, and it left me feeling so open to music and feeling more hopeful in the world. Their band is astounding.
Just saw them at the Beacon here in NY. First concert since Covid. The theater was full and there was nothing but love and joy and superb music all night long. The best band I have ever seen in terms of sound, swing, and improvisational genius. They must be seen live. Do everything you can. It will give you hope and joy.
This is a wonderful candid interview. I've seen them separate before they met.I have yet to see their new band. They have some great goals that will open eyes and ears to audience to music that they may never ventured into. They seem like they were made for each other. A year young happy married talented couple. Thank you for this post.Their words were well said and respectful.
I ❤ this couple/band because there not afraid to play everything. When I saw them in Chicago I was surprised that I liked them because Susan was so bluesy and there are no words for Derek and the band whi are all around pro's.
Wow..so this is how to love and respect a person..so much give in these two fabulous people...so beautiful to see this loving couple.. so nice...Did they say 'surrender'...wow
I appreciate the positive vibe that comes from these folks, bringing people together with their passion for music, we are all here for a reason, It's clearly obvious what that reason is for the Tedesky Trucks Band!
This guy was nice enough to let me come up and play with him and his band in 99 at the telluride blues festival. Great guy, great band and one of the best moments of my life.
what they say about give and take in great music is spot on...the best stuff is made by groups that are listening to each other and reacting to what they hear and feel.. I love this band (it seems like they are great people too)
Just saw these two at the greek theater. They each came out with Los Lobos who opened up for them and performed the last two songs with los lobos. Clearly these two love what they are doing. They know how to perform with others and as good as they are can just sit back and "hang" while other musicians shine. I'm 60 and have seen many artists and few can match these two and their passion.
On top of being incredible musicians, they are wonderful people. I can't remember who they had on stage to sing her song, and she didn't want to since her voice wasn't as strong as when she was younger. And Susan said that the people were there to listen to the original singer, and that was part of life. Music isn't always technical perfection, it's also emotions.

Nice to see the ❤️ between the two.
That's exactly what I felt. I was pleasantly surprised how vocal he really is 😂
That's what I thought. Such a beautiful, talented couple.
They are perfect examples of humans.
Humble, soulful, empathetic but most of all incredible, beautiful people. We should all strive to reach their standard

Perfectly worded. Love it.
Your comment is spot on if you don't love these two and their music it's you not them
Susan sounds so soft-spoken with such a light, reserved voice…it’s amazing to hear her belt the blues out on stage or on the albums. She’s a world-class powerhouse, and the band is a force of nature!
Love you two. Love your whole band. When I first heard Midnight in Harlem, I was sold. You all are salt of the earth, precious people.

I think Derek talked more in this interview than all the others I’ve seen put together. They are a wonderful couple, they really do compliment each other.
These two are the first family of music today. I love their band and their music.
What an incredible couple/band. The musical aptitude of their children has to be out the roof.
The way they look at each other when playing and now,, respect and love so apparent. Love watching them❤️

I'm 61 and also discovered them recently, can't get enough!
I think many of us heard their anyhow song in part on the Chevy equinox commercial
These two are just terrific! Restored my faith in popular blues and real musicians. Hallelujiah!
Catherine S. Todd - This "internet thang" has brought forth past talent, artists have recreated gems for us now with powerful projection into future from all genres.
How good is that?!
I love the way she looks at him. Can't fake that shit. And she looks at him like that on stage. It's not choreographed or rehearsed.
I agree, and I have been watching for quite some time...as a ABB fan ...some things just can't be faked
It's a blessing to be married to someone you love and respect. It's evident in the way they look at each other.
Yea she's totally into him!!! Wish I had a woman that into me ...!! LoL

The secret is that they're the real deal with each other, can't deny the love line between those two.
Gotta tell ya. I listen to your music and my soul smiles. Always finish with a AHH moment. THANK YOU
VERY MUCH.
