This, to me, is one of the best bit of film on the internet. I check in and watch and listen to it from time to time, it lifts my spirit so high, it's gorgeous hearted people doing their thing, love it so much. Love Taj but love them all actually.
Love when everyone else in the room just lights up when Taj gets into it. When everyone is that good and been performing with so many different people and still look like kids in a candy store, you know the guys fantastic.
Had the pleasure and luck to see him in the 70s when I was quite young. Even though I didn't know squat about music, I suspected I was listening to a legend.
there are some extraordinarily bizarre and depressing corners of RUclips, but dang, when you stumble across the diamond in the rough like this, its fantastic....
Holy Shit! Literally. This is no mere throwaway jam. This is as real as it gets. Taj takes the lead, TTB lays down the irresistible groove, and Jerry puts the icing on the cake. You can find other stuff this good, but you can't find anything better.
Forgive me if I've said this before, but NOBODY has more devastating timing than Taj. Ever. Maybe Miles. This is a masterclass in groove, with virtuoso students.
I mean seriously, I'm 54 years old. My father brought me up on the blues. Rock jazz you name it he brought me up on it. Thank you Geoff Gordon. Put this s*** right here is about the best you could get
Results of a handful of talented, like minded individuals come together for the sole purpose of coming together. How lucky am i to be privy to this master class?
How badass would it have been to be in that room that night....there is NO SHOW bigger than Taj...and how about DT keeping that "fiddlin' groove" going with the slide. This is happy music if there ever was some.
Finally got around to watching this and SO HAPPY I DID!!! I saw Taj for the first time at the NH Stage Festival in Milford, NH in 1990. After graduating high school earlier in the summer, several of us spent Friday and Saturday in Burlington to see the Vermont Reggae Fest, and then drove back home to catch Taj on Sunday night. He was solo and captivated us with his musicianship and storytelling. I especially remember him leading the audience through singing Light rain, light rain Baby falling in down, baby falling down.... Thank you Taj Mahal!!!!
Excellent performance and blues combination. Great artists. Ain’t nothing like BLUES. Thank you for enlightening this new generation with what real music looks like.
What an experience for all you young folks!! Duane Allman said, He ain't just a man ya'll, he's a lesson in how to live!!!" So true!! He made me paint my mailbox blue!!
I don't know what's better - how great Taj is here or how much fun everyone else looks like they're having. It's great seeing Taj come full circle with the soul of the ABB-all they needed to do was follow up with Statesboro Blues. Really makes you glad for RUclips.
For Gods sake, this is “just” a back stage jam…..and Taj Mahal is working a sweat up! Jerry Douglas is a star here…..l.l.see him in the UK in Celtic Connections..pure genius. This is just pure gold.
Haven't watched this in about a year. Still one of the most joyous videos on the internet. Just the pleasure they all take in the process - GENIUS Derek Trucks completely happy to give way to Taj. Love it.
What a freaking clinic! Taj Mahal teaching Jerry Douglas, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and company how it's done. My guitar teacher lamented to me once that talent is the cheapest commodity in the industry, which I can agree with to a point. But still, there are masters in the game and that room is filled with them. I mean come on, when's the last time you saw Jerry Douglas smiling from ear to ear? I can't get enough of this.
It is an absolute blessing to be able to see the process of this band learning songs like this. It's a look behind the scenes of what makes that band so damn good. I would honestly pay for a stream just to watch the band totally stripped down to basics like in this vid. For whatever reason, I feel like they can reach even higher highs/peaks just by using a simple backstage green room setup just like this. Because of that, their pre-show rehearsal vids like this one on youtube show them being able to completely harness the innate, raw musical power that they all possess, and be able to turn that into incredible music in any situation, whether the drummers are playing the coffee table and maracas, the vocals not amplified at all (but still cut through amazingly), or even derek playing through a really small combo amp, this music is still 100% as effective for communicating the feeling or message of a song like this, and can reach down to an even deeper part of your soul. When this band is stripped back just like this, you can guarantee that magic will totally happen.
The 1....... Been a Taj fan since the seventies...this is why I remain......The Syncopation..The Groove!!! The Soul!!! . The Annointed !!! Where's my guitar.??? Taj always makes me want to Jam... Never fails!!! Thank you HSCF...wherever you are >
I have died and gone to Heaven. Amazing. Play it over and over for an hour now. So much talent in one room. I must be dead. We will meet on the Isle of Avalon. Peace.
I love how Taj describes the energy and feeling of music.. I could never put into words but completely relate.. chase and make the feeling! Spread great cheer!😁☝️✨🎤📯
HUGE THANK YOU to the person that recorded this and POSTED IT for US Music Lovers and Fans !!!!!!!! this kinda behind the Seans song perp an ABSOLUTELY Fascinating

100% sister. What the internet should be for.
Me too!! I come back to this, (and other DT impromptu vids) multiple times throughout the year! :)

Wow, effing amazING!
Taj has been blowing my mind for 40+ years and the man just don't STOP!
Amen. I always come back to this. 1000 times.
Taj Mahal does not get the respect he deserves. Living legend!!!
Love when everyone else in the room just lights up when Taj gets into it. When everyone is that good and been performing with so many different people and still look like kids in a candy store, you know the guys fantastic.
so true....Taj is soul!
Love that. Kids in a candy store. Deep down enjoyment and soul filling.
It's a beautiful thing to watch!
Taj is an American treasure
scbeachguy57 a universal treasure, for sure.
Have seen him live several times - never disappointing
You can feel their deep respect for him..
Had the pleasure and luck to see him in the 70s when I was quite young. Even though I didn't know squat about music, I suspected I was listening to a legend.
Amen Jesus..!
there are some extraordinarily bizarre and depressing corners of RUclips, but dang, when you stumble across the diamond in the rough like this, its fantastic....
When Taj Mahal is in the room, EVERYONE ELSE is playing back up.
Man, well said!
absofuckinlutely!!
And they look very happy to do so!!
When he takes the harp up at 4:30....wow yessir I follow
I like your way of thinking........My first encounter with was The Flip Wilson Show when I was 7......man
Holy Shit! Literally. This is no mere throwaway jam. This is as real as it gets. Taj takes the lead, TTB lays down the irresistible groove, and Jerry puts the icing on the cake. You can find other stuff this good, but you can't find anything better.
Groovin and moving ❤
@@alanwright3430 Taj is like a Zen master or Blues Jedi.
Damn straight
@@prestondust6676 Amen

Got that when he signals with his right arm. Taj is a conductor.
Miles who?
This is priceless. I never get tired of watching this video. Taj singing and playing his harp with such a talented group of musicians.
Taj simultaneously brings out the child and the master musician in all of them.
Me too. I've listened to it dozens of times. I pick up my acoustic guitar and just jam along.
i love how they cant keep from occasionally grinning ear to ear cuz they're have so much fun
1st thing I thought!! Smiles, ear to ear!! @roadydog ..and those Trucks smiles don't come so easy either!!
@@Changelingheart Right ?! It takes aLOT to a smile from Derek!
This is good. Real good. Goosebump good. There are no words to truly describe how good this is.
NO GOOSEBUMP GOOD ?
goosebump good! yeah thats it!
Wish I could leave more than just one like
I just wish there was an album of their stuff just like this. This is the true down home stuff right here....
Where words fail music succeeds.
How in the world is it possible for someone to NOT like this. Love it.
God Bless Taj Mahal
One of those national treasures not many have heard of.
you nailed it.
Amen
He tajjing it up real nice.
He's from the Caribbean... isn't he?
“Hello, Front Desk?
Yes, this is 317, there is a lot of music coming out of 315.
No, no, no just ask them to put a mic on the vocalist!
Good night!”
LoL....I like it. I think they were backstage at the Beacon but your version was more interesting.
comment of the century
No need for a mic.

"I ain't never seen no whiskey...the blues made me sloppy drunk" - Priceless
I've still got my Taj Mahal vinyl LP....but films like this are what RUclips is for! Love and music, not hate and fighting.
Been listen to Taj for 40 yrs. I can't ever get enough!
🤗🙏❤

I love the smile from Derek the whole playing. 😁
Hes play in with Taj Mahal, I mean the man stood beside Jesse Davis.
All guitarist idolize Jesse Davis
Taj... holy shit. Of that era/generation I put Dylan, Taj Mahal, and Keith on a pedestal. Giants. Living legends, as of today.
What an experience for all you young folks!! Duane Allman said, He ain't just a man ya'll, he's a lesson in how to live!!!" So true!! He made me paint my mailbox blue!!
Wow!!!
The finest jewelers, the luckiest prospectors, the smartest Alchemist could never make gold that fine.
Amazing.
Taj Mahal is a national treasure... lord that man is BAD!
You cannot teach vocal "tone" quality or a true passion for the music. Taj has both in spades.
I don't know what's better - how great Taj is here or how much fun everyone else looks like they're having. It's great seeing Taj come full circle with the soul of the ABB-all they needed to do was follow up with Statesboro Blues. Really makes you glad for RUclips.
I started my day watching this.

There is no way not to grin, ear to ear, at this performance. And they are all in the groove with the Big Man on this one!
