  • Version 13.4 of the Sonos S2 app and firmware brings about a huge update which brings DTS support to all Sonos home theatre devices, which even includes the oldest playbar from almost a decade ago. Talk about support!

Thank you for posting videos like this because it’s just so hard to find a video about Sonos settings and have them all explained and in precise and detailed description. Do you have a new subscriber and me and again thank you for posting videos that actually are worth me listening to and also for going into the settings and explaining everything you rock and you’re awesome thank you so much

    Great video as always, thank you so much for all of the helpful videos that you post. I just wanted to say that for gamers, specifically with XSX who connect it directly to their TV with their Sonos arc but without a receiver, the DTS update has been a godsend. Until now the only way to get anything but Stereo (for me anyways) has been Atmos, but Atmos with XSX and a sound bar connected directly to the TV introduces significant audio latency during games for many people. The DTS update gives a surround sound option without the audio latency so for me this update has been incredibly functional!

    I have trouble connecting Sound bar Arc to laptop and PC via HDMI cable?
    - First, my laptop is Dell Alliance ware M17r2. It has one HDMI 2.0 port. I tried to connect them together with an HDMI cable that is included in the soundbar box but it didn't work.
    - And the PC has a graphic card RTX 3080 (HDMI 2.1 port, 3 display port). Can I use the HDMI port of the graphic card to connect directly to the soundbar, and display port to monitor?

    My current tv won’t go beyond 2.0 for pcm, the DTS update through the Sonos arc opened up the 5.1 channels for my blu rays. I was considering another sound bar as I wasn’t going to give up my blu rays (the audio and picture on physical media is insane). Glad they added DTS support, hope they add other DTS codecs, but I won’t hold my breath.

    • @erice5755
      @erice5755 2 года назад

      Hi, I'm not sure if you have fixed your issue yet but I thought I could share my experience which may help. I have Samsung 'the frame' 2021 tv with a sonos beam gen 2. At first Passthrough would show up fine but if I left the tv and came back to it, passthrough would disable itself and provided on PCM. It was very frustrating especially after reading that this is supposed to be a wide spread issue which I only found out about after buying the TV. I'm pretty sure it's a Samsung issue because I had the same problem with Samsungs OWN soundbar (q700a)! It was actually worse because with the q700a I couldn't get passthrough at all!
      Anyway, I found a 2 part 'fix' that seems to work for me so far:
      1- first part is to get an external smart device such as Chromecast, apple tv box, firestick ect. From what I read, native Samsung apps found within their smart tv and apps DO NOT send the appropriate signal. plug the device into HDMI 1 or 2 (not gaming port or earc port - earc port should be connected to Sonos). This is how I set it up.
      2- Turn the TV off and on before watching it (even if art mode is on). Doing so would enable passthrough option. I noticed that when I got passthrough working, then left for a few hours and came back to watch tv, passthrough would be disabled. The only fix was to turn the tv off and on.
      The second option is annoying and the fist option cost money but for me it is working so far! I get passthrough enabled and I see Dolby Atoms signal in the Sonos app when watching Netflix on Chromecast tv.

      ruclips.net/video/icKD2LRfzK4/видео.html at about the 12min mark? but my advice would be find a good atmos movie or more so one of the atmos trailers, watch it with the height volume at different levels multiple times.... start at -10 and work your way up in 5 intervals, -5, 0, 5, 10.... find what suits you and your space.... my personal experience with this set up is it takes time, personal customisation and the right content to get a true feel for what it's doing. You may think you have to go to +10, but when you trial at different levels for a good amount of time I.e. -10 then 0 you get a real feel for the sound it's putting out..

      @@juanvalera7272 G'day Juan. I feel that there is a difference from physical media vs streaming from the comparison's I've done myself personally. One test I did was with Pacific Rim, I played the same scenes one after the other between disc and streaming I could see and hear the difference and that's not even atmos sound. It is to be expected when comparing anything playing from physical to where nternet is required.
      Next week will be interesting as I have changed my internet plan to double the current speed. Whilst I'm happy with my current speed and watching 4k visual and atmos content through my apple 4k tv, I do see and hear a difference between the 2 forms, especially after watching all episodes of Game of thrones recently on blu-ray with atmos sound.
      Once my speed increases I'll have a true comparison to go by and can give a more definite answer. That Hans Zimmer I recommended is only available on Blu-Ray disc, not sure you'll find it on streaming.

Appreciate any advice of help

    • @Chimera_Photography
      @Chimera_Photography 2 года назад

      Are these games running above 30 frames per second? Because I’ve noticed most, if not all, video games have some kind of lip-sync issues as soon as the frame rate goes above 30 frames per second.
      However, there is a setting in the Sonos app under ‘System’ labeled as “TV Dialog Sync”. It’s not terribly precise, instead of adjusting by milliseconds, it only allows settings of 1-5. But it can help if the sound is starting before the lips start moving. If the lips are already moving before the sound? It’ll probably make it worse.
      I don’t own a ps5, so I can’t say if it has its own sync settings. Nor do I know if your tv allows audio sync adjustments when using eArc pass-through. My lg does not.

Full quality DTS/HD/X (no height channels) lpcm-bitstream-decoding (Sonos added that lpcm-input ability earlier this year I think), and lossless Dolby TrueHD/Bluray Atmos pass through for the Arc. Most streaming devices can’t handle the lossless Dolby/Atmos signals from a disc, nor can they send a lossless decoded stream of anything, let alone DTS. The Apple TV 4K can do some of that. A bit late for DTS from sonos, I’m am of the generation where we were crying out for DTS on the playbar.. but it never came.
    A bit pointless after the arc superseded that audio format with atmos, unless you own a playbar I guess.

    This DTS update is more for users that don’t have eARC; it’s for those that are using optical or standard ARC that can’t get multichannel PCM.
    If you’ve connected your soundbar via eARC, it’s better to transfer the audio from blurays as PCM anyway.
    At least this way, you’ll still get the lossless track when watching movies that have DTS HD Master Audio. If you set it to Bitstream, the DTS-HDMA will be down-converted to lossy DTS.

      So is putting out in pcm better than bitstream? Does that work for atmos?

      Yep. I use the arcana, the day after the 13.4 update arcana released a firmware update to support it. Arcana also supports Dolby true hd and atmos.

    So DTS:X is now supported?

      Only ”standard” DTS unfortunately. I assume it would require Sonos to license other DTS formats.

      Why stop now? I’m sure Sonos will allow DTS:X in the future. However, their is very little selection of discs having DTS:X

      All my discs I’ve checked have DTS-HD. Is this supported too?

    • @Chimera_Photography
      @Chimera_Photography 2 года назад

      @@willterrance6546 Sadly, nope. Only the “core” DTS will be used. There’s information out there how the ‘core’ DTS gets ‘unpacked’ from the other DTS formats but I don’t recall the specifics of the DTS container configuration :-P All I remember is, the extra information gets thrown away.

    Tech constantly drives me mad. Just when you think you’ve got all bases covered… DOH you discover you’re new gear doesn’t support something on the long list. I have the same LG setup with a beam 2, and only just discovered the TV doesn’t support DTS. How can it not??? Makes me want to SCREAM.

      man, I had the HT-A9 for three weeks, and immediately started to miss the control we had over EQ and height channel adjustments so I returned the A9. I hope Sonos releases something similar in the future.
