Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg talk on Robin Williams

  • Whoopi is saying, “I’m - one of the reasons I love still fooling with him, we’re going to talk a bit about it. But I think first, we have to talk about our friend and our brother, Robin Williams.
Um-You did an amazing tribute at the Emmys. I cannot imagine that was seamless…”

@Jackson Carter Well, in California I can say that is very true. And we have lived all over the world, and made the mistake to retire in California, which was good, many years ago. Now they are taxing everybody to get rid of people, leaving only the millionaires, and the homeless. The governor's actual answer to the economic downturn caused by Covid and trade imbalance is to raise the taxes. Because the bureaucracy wants the money to put into their pockets. They have no mission Check on the businesses? Half the businesses in San Francisco are boarded up. The teachers have no classes. My grandchildren are on the computer. No teachers needed. They might as well be learning from MIT on-line. Homeless are in thousands of new places, besides the freeway, where I had never seen them. Everywhere. Drugs everywhere. Disintegration everywhere. But the State of California will always increase all taxes, at all times, until there is no one left, except government bureaucrats. And like the rats in the experiment, they will have to eat each other.

That's the way its supposed to be. Private citizens helping others. One of the biggest problems we've faced for the last 100 years is people thinking it's the government's job to take care of people.

@Julie Frazier unfortunately it was never meant to be a business nor a building is my point. The one's who should be wanting to be on the front lines putting an end to homelessness instead judge the homeless n they're the same one's who claim to want to be more like Jesus everyday get outta here

Agreed. I watch movies of his every now and then and think, "Man, the world will never see the likes of someone like him again." As someone who has fought depression, anxiety, and had repeated suicide attempts for more than 30 years. I often heard from family and friends, "what do you mean you're depressed, we were laughing just the other day." Which was true, I could laugh and joke around, but it never lessened the darkness I felt. I just learned how to hide it better. My breaking point was near Christmas in 2016...I wasn't safe on my own and I knew that this time I would successfully kill myself. So, I checked myself into the ER. I was finally put on a medication that worked for me, and found a wonderful psychiatrist. But, it was such a hard step to take, and people I loved judged me for an illness I had no control over.

    • @bkm223
      @bkm223 3 года назад +10

@@felissamata381.....I'm glad you checked yourself into the ER and that you're doing better now. I can relate. Not with the suicide attempts, but with the whole "laughing" bit. Just because someone laughs and appears to be OK, doesn't necessarily mean they are. I laugh and joke in order to hide a lot that I don't want people to see. I'm on medication, so that helps.

Fast forward over a decade later and I'm crying more now than I did at that time. Robin Williams was family. He was silently suffering and I know all to well how that feels. Not trying to make excuses for him either but he was just such a unique soul. He is sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Only to say...OOh that's bad so uh we're gonna create 10 commandments and PRETEND that never happened. Honestly if that's the case god should be held accountable for his earthly crimes. But nope churches around the world will either say" under grace not under law" or worse " WE need that kind of god?" Excuse me? We need a hitler totalitarian god? No thanks!! Why i'd rather believe in nonexistence...like going back to the great void than heaven or hell.. . that and i REALLY hate spending 20 seconds with certain people let alone 80 years....and then i learn i get ETERNITY with those schmucks? When he was having his heart surgery, billy called his cell several times, left messages as “vinnie the valve man/guy (because robin was having valve surgery)”, so that when robin was lucid enough to hear the messages, they would make him laugh.
Billy said that robin called him, asking for “vinnie” and thanking billy for the messages.

Billy Crystal sells himself short. Yes, this was his very best friend that passed, and like he said, the Emmys' "eulogy" would be the first time he was talking in public about Williams, but that's the very beauty about Crystal. He's a story teller - and a brilliant one at that. He's given plenty of eulogies before - they're well-documented - but the fact that he could put so much life into a 2-minute speech - on stage, at an awards show, in front of millions of pairs of eyes - proves that he was the right guy for the moment. Bless you, Billy; I think you should write your own eulogy, because no one (else) will be able to do you justice.

So touched by the true friendship between Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal and the late Robin Williams. So rare in Hollywood that there existed this strong friendship--filled with loving care for each other (in and out of their careers) and pure heart of doing humanitarian work for the homeless for many many years. Their friendship is so authentic, and losing Robin in the 'threesome' was truly heartbreaking. Felt the sadness that Whoopi and Billy are experiencing their dear friend Robin. Had been a fan and just adored his movies esp. his comics. He was a genius actor and such a wonderful person in his lifetime. His memories will live on. RIP Robin W.

I grew up with Robin Williams from Mork and Mindy to Mrs. Doubtfire and he was a comedian who brought so much quirky joy and laughter. It is sad that we cannot know the depths of pain one person can hold throughout a lifetime. So sad he gave so much, but didn't have enough for himself. Rest In Peace you sweet funny man.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I think Billy's way to deal with sadness is to joke about it. *I* don't think there's *ANYTHING* wrong with that, either. I felt the most empathetic for Whoopi, because she truly seemed like she was having a tough time getting through the segment. Not to "dismiss" BC here, but Whoopi and Robin shared some *REALLY* good times together, and my heart hurt for her while I was watching this.

Your friend saved my life. When Robin Williams died I had, since the start of this year been so desperately depressed thinking of suicide almost everyday, sometimes several times a day, knowing that I was too much of a coward to actually kill myself. Realising that someone as clever, funny and generous as Robin Williams could be so terribly sad that he would manage to leave those he loved gave me the wake up I needed. I've since started a new medication which mostly does help and saw a psychiatrict nurse for some CBT, (can't say that helped much but might do for someone else). Now I'm not saying that I'm better and everything is all good but I am now coping better with life and that is because Robin Williams mattered!

This year she also lost director Mike Nichols (WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, THE GRADUATE, WORKING GIRL), who discovered her and brought her self-titled show to Broadway in 1984 where she won the Tony Award. Spielberg caught her act and decided to cast her in THE COLOR PURPLE for which she got an Oscar nomination the following year. Thus, starting her film career. Here's a little story about Robin Williams. The night before he died I was on Netflix and for some reason decided to re-watched Hook. I've never felt so happy to be watching a film. I can't explain the feeling I had watching it I was just over come with happiness .I had watched the film numerous times before and never got that reaction to it before. I didn't think anything of it after the movie ended and went to sleep then when I had heard the tragic news of his death I felt so sad and shocked that such a great man was taken away. Then I remembered the feeling that I had the past night and thought to myself
that feeling is what everyone of us should feel everyday living our lives. And for a moment I felt like I knew this man personally and he left one last joke for me to laugh at. This man was the true embodiment of that emotion and feeling that we all should share and have everyday. Thank You Robin

I just got done watching a bunch of Robin Williams USO comedy tours in Afghanistan. You just can't help but laugh and smile the entire time. And it didn't matter what he said. It was how he expressed things and the sincerity of his humor as he smiled and performed for others. He truly wanted to share laughter and take the attention off himself and deliver the humor of life. I found myself laughing in a way I haven't in years. To me, he is still with us somehow.
