      @@CharlieDrives Was suprised that the Defender 90 was not launched at the same time as the 110, interested in the 90 Commercial but this might be a blessing now as there seems to be quite a lot of problems with the Defender and not limited to the electronics, the production was delayed due to quality control problems, that should have told me something!!!!!! Sorry to rain on your parade but Chinavirus is going to be with us for some time!!!!

    The wipers drive me mad too.... driving mine today.. on auto the wiping is activated by a rain sensor on the windscreen i believe but it really needs to have a algorithm that looks at rain sensor and how often the rain sensor is triggering and convert this to a timed intermittent wipe.

    • @CharlieDrives
      @CharlieDrives  4 года назад

      Yep!! I think they have tried to be too clever with them. I craved a really simple wiper mechanism for that journey! Luckily it didn’t rain much 😂

      The intermittent wipers on my 99 Range Rover work as they should while the overly clever ones on my 2008 RRSC do not and the dealer has been unable to get them working so I have manual intermittent wipers by flicking the stalk up. Really, why do we need auto wipers? I can tell when it is raining for God's sake.

One comment and I feel bad for pointing it out, but having your kids lie down like that won't be the safest if you were unfortunate enough to be in a prang. I’ve got one and I had no idea there was even an eco mode so I need to look out for that 😂 averaging 25mpg so far and driving it with gusto
    Wipers on mine fine. I had huge problems with the dash tablet software (including the satnav not working at all) but an update on Aug 28th fixed it except it often shows the name of the current road as being the road the dealer I bought it from is on (!) Spotify disappears occasionally but usually fine.
    I had a similar problem with the clock. It kept changing time zone randomly and I couldn’t find any way to manually set the actual time. Been okay since the update though
    Turned lane assist off as it kept doing weird things down country lanes

  • @seesantos

    My Ford Explorer (US) Adaptive Cruise Control also slows down in corners when it detects trucks and other large vehicles (annoyingly hits the brakes hard). Apple CarPlay also overrides Ford's system when a message pops up on the phone, so I suspect it is an Apple CarPlay function. Cruise control does provide better fuel economy - except hills. Hills always kills fuel economy

  • @gtsussex3467
    @gtsussex3467 4 года назад +5

    I hate to say it but the JLR adaptive cruise is lousy - easily gets confused and not intelligent when approaching and overtaking. Had hoped it had improved. Rarely use it now on Disco. If you hold the shorter distance button, it will turn it into normal cruise which is mostly how we use it. No comparison to adaptive cruise in my BMW which I use all the time and is in a different league. Wouldn’t pay extra for it (although like with you was standard on HSE).

    Thanks so much for posting this video.
    I am from NY. U.S.A. I own a 110 first edition and have put around 4000 miles.
    I have the same issues with mine. Additionally I had some issues with the front breaks but on my last long trip it seems to have disappeared.
    I have on question for you.
    Mine didn’t come with the ACC. Adaptive cruise control feature.
    Did you order it as a extra feature?
    I only have regular cruise control.
    Thanks

  • @PeterCooperUK
    @PeterCooperUK 4 года назад

    The satnav/compass on mine is very intermittent. It doesn’t work at all for a day or two (stays stuck where I last parked). Then it’ll pop back into life again. I also had apps disappear off the main system and CarPlay sometimes stops working and makes me reset the whole entertainment system.
    On holiday right now but I’ll be badgering JLR on my return..

    I've not had any problems with the wipers on mine, I set them to auto/low sensitivity on the day I picked it up and they have worked fine during the rain. I have the standard cruise control on mine and it does slow down when going round bends but it has only occurred on motorways i.e. moving down a slip road to join another motorway. It happens whether there is a barrier in front or not; it maybe a safety issue.
    I also noticed the clock issue; mine is 1 hour out sometimes. I noticed yours was showing 2 hours but you were on the continent at the time; I wonder if it is sourcing the clock via the 4G connection on start-up.

  • @DH-sm7sw
    @DH-sm7sw 4 года назад

    On the cruise control, have you checked if you have the limiter on rather than the cruise; I made that mistake a few times. I have found the cruise control fine, but bad for economy as it leaves the gearbox in too low a gear and the engine is straining.

    If the car is like an iphone, apps stop working because they want to down load the latest bug fix. I guess we will get to the point of driving to a 5G tower, waiting for reception, downloading the latest software patch, rebooting and then driving to our destination. Is this what we are paying the big money for?

      Mine has a host of issues - low battery warnings (back to LR to fix; returned but not fixed), Touchscreen not booting up on start up, A pillar noise, loose panel after mudflaps fitted, squeeks from driver's door (LR lubricated), other squeeks and rattles, USB media and CarPlay dropping off, some safety features (emergency braking and the like) randomly switching off. Waiting for a response from LR to emails sent 3 days ago. I also find the 240 diesel underpowered, and noisy at low speed. Thinking about swapping the Defender for a (3 litre) Discovery, just need to get through the reservation of how damn ugly the D5 is.
