I love my 2023 Defender. I’ve had zero issues with wind noise etc. I’ve done 18K so far which is quite a bit, zero mechanical issues. Only issues with the speakers (needed replacing), a trim on the door popped up, needed coolant once and the radio stopped working twice. After a re start, worked fine. Other than that, I drive mine heavily and it’s the best SUV I’ve owned!

That sounds like a lot of issues for one year than zero issues. Probably wanna trade it in close to out of warranty. Other than, great vehicles for only a lucky fews.

Really happy to see post an update about your Defender. As I am also in the first batch 2020 Defender and you make a really good point that I think rings true (unfortunately) of so many (the experience at the local dealership’s service department can be vastly different. While my car doesn’t have the A-pillar issue at all…. I find it so bizarre this cannot be easily fixed and I genuinely think they’re giving you the run-around! I know of some who say its been fixed… so its gotta be the service department, right? Crazy making for sure.
Again, really glad to see you post - and look forward to additional videos on the Defender and its adventures!

Have the same a-pillar issues (sounding like sand hitting the windshield) on our 2020 Defender P300. I've taken it in to the dealer at least four times and they attempted to fix the problem. I just found in the Land Rover forum there's a list of technical service bulletins and I counted 33 TSB's on this a-pillar issue. I saw another RUclipsr say that they replaced the windshield with an aftermarket windshield and the sound went away. I'm going to take it in hopefully one last time and show them the TSB's and tell them about the aftermarket windshield solution. Also have inoperative sunroof (most of the time), engine coolant warning constantly on, and misaligned rear passenger door . Otherwise awesome vehicle. My wife would never give it up.

I have the P400 X 90, purchased last September (21) from Guy Salmon In Coventry. The pre-sales and immediate after sales was faultless and they went the extra mile to still deliver on time when I added a bunch of last min requests, incl full PPF, tow bar, arches etc. On delivery there was a small mark in the paintwork, they collected the car (I’m in Richmond London) sorted out and delivered back with no question. I have a very occasional rattle/vibration which I think is from the drivers rear speaker and only on certain road conditions, so will see how that goes. Car has been fantastic, drive train is so responsive and the P400 has better MPG than the P300. The day I stop smiling when I jump in will be the day it goes, long way from that yet 👍🤓😎

I have the PY2022 d300. No noticeable rattles. Although the yellow engine light has come in twice in the last 2 weeks. A air sensor was replaced after it first came on, but it came
on again today. The car is not affected by it and performs as usual, but it does make me nervous. Will take it in again for them to sort it out.

I currently have a D200 90 which I've had for 15 months now with zero issues and I'm picking up my new D300 90 on Wednesday.
I feel your pain with Marshalls, my office is less than 1k from Marshalls Peterborough and I wouldn;t buy a dust cap from them. I happily do a 90 mile round trip to go to Duckworth's in Boston for all of our purchasing and servicing needs and have done so over the last 20 years. I've tried Marshalls again and again over the years as it would be more convenient and would make more sense but every time I've tried they are always dreadfully rude and unhelpful.

I’ve had my 2020 LR Defender First Edition coming up on 3/years in early November. Amazing vehicle. My only issue when I purchased was that the Sales person confirmed to me several times during discussion that the vehicle had ventilated/heated seats. Come to find out after further inspection, only heated seats was on this very expensive First Edition, let lower trim levels do have ventilated & heated. The only specific issue I’ve had mechanically, is the door locks. Can’t seem to regularly get the buttons on the door handles (all doors it seams) to unlock the door on the first try. Remote unlock works fine of course but the physical door handle buttons have been a continual problem. Naturally, when LR Servicing looks at them they work just fine. Otherwise, amazing, amazing vehicle and certainly a conversation starter when out and about.

1st car had the wrong interior,

They did give my money back.

    Absolutely wonderful, no issues 👍😊

I have exactly the same issue with the drivers side A pillar, been in twice now and still vibrates like crazy at 70+ Also had an issue with the engine coolant light coming on despite the coolant level being fine, that took two visits to resolve. I have an issue with the rear passenger door trim coming unstuck and it won’t fix back, apparently there is an issue with the door and they can’t get the part until late November? Latest gremlin is that the navigation has taken to turning its self on randomly and directing me to an old destination! Turn it off and it may or may not come back on. My big grumble with the dealership is that it is always 6 weeks plus before they can fit you in and have been using the same storey of looking to expand the work shop for the last couple of years. Not my problem!

I’ve had a 2020 defender for 2 years now. A pillar wind noise is a design issue. LR definitely need to improve that. Apart from the usually infotainment bugs that have gone away with updates, have two issues currently being sorted out by the dealer. The wade sensor mode doesn’t work. They replaced the sensor module but that didn’t fix it, so it’s back with the dealer to diagnose. The other issue is with keyless entry which is erratic- the door button doesn’t always work. Have to take the key fog out of my pocket and hold it close to the handle. Apparently when I took it to the dealer I was told it’s a known issue. The door button module is being replaced under warranty as we speak. Hopefully that should resolve that issue.

I had the same A-pillar noise problem on my 2020 Defender. Took to the dealer countless times without any success. The problem finally went away for good after the windshield was replaced by a 3rd party after a crack. I had another windshield installed a few months later after a second incident and the noise never returned. Now my concern is how thin and fragile the windshield is. Any small chip will crack the windshield wildly in a short time. This windshield is not cheap. So the A-pillar noise problem is likely due to how the original windshield was installed.

I have a 2020 Defender SE P400 with this same A Piller issue. It sounds like sand is hitting my windshield on the passenger side. (Right side) I’m in the U.S so i we drive on the left side. I just bought this Defender a month ago with 22k miles and I love it. I traded in my 2019 RR Sport HST that I loved and had no issues. My Defender is now at the dealership for the 2nd time for this same A pillar noise that they said they fixed but they didn’t. I’m waiting to hear back from them and hopefully they figure out and fix this annoying sound I hear at 70 mph and over.

  • @StephenFogarty2023
    @StephenFogarty2023 2 года назад +6

    Hi Charlie,
Definitely been a while since you’ve posted a Defender video.
To the best of my knowledge, the issues you mention, such as noise at A pillars, was sorted within approx 12 months of Defender production.
With regards to Apple Car Play issues, and any Software Issues etc, this is common nowadays across ALL types of cars.
Hopefully SOTA upgrades etc, improves or fixes these things, but get the dealer to do a “Hard” Software Reset etc, and to thoroughly scan for any faults etc.
VW had a lot of Software Issues when they released the
Mk 8 Golf, and took at least 12 months to improve the issues.
From what you say, it certainly seems as though the dealer -
Marshall’s, have been very poor in many ways at customer care and resolving any issues.
Unfortunately, this diminishes the ownership enjoyment experience, ( of what is an excellent vehicle ) which is a shame.
But, very understandable if things don’t get sorted.
I’d be having a meeting with Marshall’s Service Department Manager, and Customer Relations Manager to make them fully aware of their poor dealer service and lack of problems resolution etc, that you have had with them.
If Marshall’s are still not proactive, escalate your concerns / issues to LR, at a Head Office level.
If there is another LR dealer in your area, maybe go to them, and ideally you will have great service and satisfaction with this other dealer. 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Good luck.

I don't think you are paying attention. Everyone on earth is having the same issues with Land Rover. The organization of the dealer is because of a lack of proper systems by Land Rover. They have always been a mess. And the Defender is not a reliable vehicle. It is lovely though when it works.

  • @spudboy1328

Every time I watch a video like this (on the new Defender) I despair for Land Rover. I guess there are enough tolerant people in the world to put up with the average quality of the product and the rubbish service from their dealers to keep selling these.
Fabulous to drive and heaps of luxury. But if it is not reliable, what's that worth?
I know you can't them them in the UK, but I'm pretty glad I got a Land Cruiser 70 series (after being a rusted on Defender buyer for over 20 years). Different market slot than the Defender now, but it is tough and simple and reliable, which really is what you'd want from a Defender, otherwise you'd have bought a Disco.

A year or so on from your video and perhaps things have got worse not better... I think that many (perhaps even most) car dealers have lost all sense of customer loyalty, advocacy and frankly decency. Even across a range of industries and workforces, additionally, there seems to be a distinct lack of mojo since the pandemic. In my experience good service has become the exception and great service doesn't exist. While we feel somehow obliged to lightly sugar coat it for social media, the truth is that if change for the better will ever happen, dealers will need to fundamentally address all of their customer interactions, policies and behaviours from the ground up. They may even have to take an initial commercial revenue dip before reaping a subsequent reward. It's unfortunately one of those sea changes, it seems, that only a massive reduction in sales will drive. The power of the customer has almost evaporated. Like it or lump it.

A good mate bought a D240 110 first Edition (_my original post incorrectly said a 130 - my apologies_) when it came out here in Australia last year. I warned him against buying such a high tech and untested vehicle for the sorts of places he was planning to take it. Anyway, a few notable experiences off the top of my head...
    - it broke down during his pick-up from the dealer - great start,
    - the $8K sunroof option was diabled by Landrover as he purchased a roofrack (for safety...). Months later he found a fix on a forum,
    - at 50k kms, the entire drivetrain requires replacing, including suspension and engine, with a 3+ month wait.
My mate is a good driver and the car has seen some light off-road use. His particular car has featured on the cover of various 4WD mags here in Aust and he is very well known on the 4WD forums, and despite this, the dealer (a major LR dealer in Australia) is in no hurry to support him. In fact, it appears they are criminally negligent in their conduct according to Aussie consumer law - no interest in providing a replacement car, unreasonable response times (weeks), etc. He is enormously inconvenienced at the present and will be heavily out of pocked and will end up with a machine he can't trust for the long trips he's plannig.
On the forums, my mate has unearthed more than several others with exactly the same issues - all requiring engine replacements with none in the country. One was halfway around Oz when its engine failed.
Hopefully others will have better luck but it appears to me that this (rather good looking) machine has a few design and post-sales support concerns. Buyer beware. Cheers - Dave

The car was in the dealership for almost 5 months and they are treating the engine/drivetrain replacement as a part, covered by parts warranty. serious piston ring problems now, and the 2 litre being replaced [no longer available] it should be called the LANDROVER MOUNTBATTEN.

Boot space is horrible. Lots of wasted space, specially with the third row - cup holders on the floor. Try fitting a golf set sideways. Even a Discovery Sport boot is nicer. Of course there’s no comparison with the Disco4 / LR4.

Funny you say that. Marshall Land Rover Oxford doesnt even bother to welcome you from the receiption they only have a very limited number of cars in showroom on display. Forget about the test drive, couldnt care less as nobody even wanted to talk to you on ALL 4 occasions i visited.
Interestingly its Marshall Skoda and Marshall Volkswagon next door, both outperformed the LR division. The people were a lot more passionated looking after SKoda & VW while in contrast people looking after LR all kept their heads down and enjoying their own coffee(and no phone calls either). I have no faith in them and ordered my defender from another dealership(NOT Marshall).

Hey, don’t hold back in your voicing your complaints! Posting videos is a great opportunity to ‘out’ what sounds like very poor service at that particular dealership.
I live in Japan, where bad service soon leads to serious consequences for all poor customer serving businesses. I’d eventually like to retire back in the uk 🇬🇧 but hearing stories like doesn’t endear me to that return anytime soon😮.

Land Rover is at the very bottom of the reliability list in the United States. Last time I checked. Not sure where they list in Europe? Not that it really matters I guess.

Marshall are rubbish at customer service. I use the one in Lincoln and you can't believe the problems that they induced into any fault I reported. They have no idea how to handle service .

LANDROVER has decided to FIX THE UNRELIABILITY of the new defender by RETIRING THE NAME 'DEFENDER' and calling it the 'MOUNTBATTEN' as everybody knows it will end with A LOUD BANG and then a long search for bits.
