Gonna need that $20k for all the repairs that’ll need to be done 🤔😂
Why dont u guys show newton meters..
@@ZealousWZephyr have u seen the TFL video of the Defender that develeoped a problem after just 164miles in the clock. Evn JL engineers cant fix it.
Eh TSPs HOSERS. Can Yuri & Jacob get in on the Tuatara high speed (potential lie or misdirect)? It is after all representing North America & one of the partners is Shelby. Shmee did an interesting video & I'd love to hear you dudes thoughts. Maybe u can get an interview with SSC peeps to clarify that 331mph (alleged record). You always keep it real & are honest & fair reviewers on all things automotive. Peace!
Man if only I had the money for one of these, I'd be able to afford 2 Broncos

If i could drop a ❤️ instead of a 👍 I would 🤣
Ha! Indeed...
Or a Bronco and a Caterham Seven 😏
Good one mate:))
Just found a Land Rover buried in a forest.
It was a nice Discovery.
Hey brooo i watch your channel. Nice to see you here

Just gave my mum a Range Rover
She broke down
Geddit? B-b-because you know breakdown like crying and breakdown like kaput? Yh!? No? never mind I’m sorry

bruh lmao😂😂
with a truck like this you can go ANYWHERE, grocery shop, soccer practice, nail salon, even run over a curb. the possibilities are endless
If it makes it out of the dealer 😂 TFL trucks bought one and it’s been nonstop at shop.
You can also drive into the mechanics shop

I use mine to jump the curbs at Starbucks to get in front of the plebeians.
Geeze ... then more than you could do in an old Defender! Cool

That $20,000 prize is for the Range Rover's maintenance for the first year.
Haha probably the first 6 months realistically 😂😂

And repairs
One thing we learned at Defender training back in January was that the handles above the glove box are part of the actual chassis. Pretty cool stuff!
Before you consider buying one, I strongly recommend you watch The Fast Lane Car's videos on their Defender. Long story short, it's at best beta-product level reliability and you'll get to know your service department really well.
And many have had no issues.

Which makes more sense as it opens on kerb side.
It's not a real snorkel, its only half-functional (splash proof, not waterproof)
I was probably drunk when I did my research 🍻
@@TheStraightPipes Apparently, since you also said $76k is the starting price, which is incorrect. It starts at $68k. $76k is the starting price of the 6 cyl, which also includes a bunch of other features in the SE package.

Super unreliable brand. A friends brand new car has spent majority of its life back at the dealer attempting to get fixed
@@JohnnyZenith dayum ure just a fanboy
@@JohnnyZenith That's not true. Land Rover has a well deserved reputation of poor quality and always needing repair.
@@JohnnyZenith true
Actually is a raised air intake, not a snorkel. Says it right on the package on their website.
What’s the difference? I don’t know fr
@@bderkhan2925 Raised air intake is good if you expect to drive in dusty conditions to keep cleaner air going into the engine. A properly fitted snorkel is for water fording, but components need to be properly waterproofed to make a snorkel work.
@@Jordan-D26 they're the same thing... Raised air intake is the official name. Raising the height of an intake won't change how much dust is in the area, That's why intakes have their own filters. When companies like Toyota say stuff like "desert air raised intake" or something along those lines, it basically means it's non-functional.
@@SuperVarunan yeah depends on what country the toyota is sold in Australia they fully functional ie beach or outback driving unlike north America ect
@@SuperVarunan Not the same:
Raised Air Intake
Ideal when driving in dusty or sandy conditions, the raised air intake helps protect the engine by taking in cleaner air from an elevated position, above the hood, and therefore reducing the amount of dust particles taken into the air filter. Manufactured from a high-quality, durable plastic with an Anthracite colored finish, it secures to the vehicle’s 'A' post and utilizes the existing air intake vent fixings.
PLEASE NOTE: The raised air intake does not extend the vehicle’s wading capability beyond the standard wading depth of 35.4in.
That new inline 6 sounds actually really good
Yeah. It's too bad you'll be spending more time at the dealership getting it serviced than actually hearing it.
@@dave_riots idk I have Land Rovers in-line 4 diesel and it behaved excellent for since I have the car. Definitely would buy another Range if it's gonna be an suv
Fantastic vehicle. The utilitarian styling inside and out looks great. It has comfort, safety, features and tech along with brilliant off road capability. Well done Land Rover. 👍👍
Yeah you’re def just a poor hater
The dash in this is like a preview of the Bronco! Thank you @TheStraightPipes!
Really digging the hi res shots you guys are doing of the materials in the interior. Great choice!
For me these new Defenders are contradictions. Rugged and reliable means analogue and no-fuss, not overly complicated computers and electronics. It's no surprise that reviewers like TFLnow are already reporting electronic/computer faults on their brand new Defenders. I wouldn't count on a JLR product to survive in the wilderness, that's for sure.
That’s why Toyota is so reliable. Their stuff is old school and they’ve been just slowly upgrading stuff making it even better. Not taking massive jumps every year.
Don't buy the Bronco then cause it has all those computers you don't want
@@anandpushkar7510 honestly I’d trust Ford or even Jeep more than any Land Rover
Welcome to the second decade of the 21st century. The new Defender is more capable than the old.
@@justinanderson181 saying it should be analog in 2020 is just dumb even the wrangler and bronco are full of electrical things JLR is just unreliable af

Now no drive through can stop me
This is the review I’ve been waiting for!!! Thank you guys!!!!!!
Nobody is going to lend these guys vehicles anymore after Yuri stunk up this Defender with his Taco Bell. 🤣
not going to lie the 3:04 land rover defender for 2012 looks INSANE
THE SOUND IS SO CALM AND JUST SOUNDS SO GOOD
I was just thinking about when are you guys gonna do Defender review yesterday! and here we go!
the door swing side and the snorkel placement are actually ideal for right hand drive.
The Snorkel is away from the British driver's potential view around the A-pillar and the door swigs AWAY from the British curb making it easy to load items form the side of an English street where they drive on the left.
In right hand-side-of-the-road countries with left hand drive steering. the door opens inconveniently for loading from the curb/roadside
Yet the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco both swing the same way. I wonder if it's for some reason besides what side of the road it's on. 🤔
Beginning: "This looks like the Honda Element".
Ending: "This looks like nothing else on the road".
Make up your minds guys
Honda Elements aren't on the road anymore (except for Yuri's) :)
😂
Wow this is the very best setup for one of these. Land Rover definitively mailed it with the design.
I got the chance to drive this at a jaguar and landrover event and I must say... It feels like a very comfortable and floaty Main Battle Tank
Let's wait someone customize this generation Defender to a Camel Trophy spec.
someone already has! someone in the UK did it... there is a vid on youtube
Company call Urban in the UK. They’re on RUclips.
Maybe enlist the help of actual camels as they can help pull this thing into the dealership when it shits the bed.
I think I’ve said this before but you guys have the best job ever getting to drive cool cars I really like Land Rover they make nice suvs and great job for partnering with omaze I think giving back is a great thing you guys do and helping for a great cause nice job guys
We do have the best job. Thank you
48V mild hybrid, ZF8, and an engine without balance shafts seems like a consistently winning combination
I can’t help but compare this with older but very similar Discovery 4/LR4 in terms of luxury and overall boxiness look and capability. Where i come from, LR4 was seen as on road car (yeah toyota is legend in Mongolia) but having taken one on a rally tracks, my mind changed. I am sure this one gotten even better
All these electronics are absolutely amazing. If only they hadn’t been designed and implemented by Land Rover, it would all be worth it!
The front looks like an angry goldfish
Hit us with the ol’ switcheroo in the intro. Nice.
The reason you haven't seen many around is they're all back at the dealer getting fixed.
I just saw one of these exact ones in Whitby on Sunday. Coincidence? Or random Straight Pipes sighting??👀
It’s always a good day When the StraightPipes post
Yeah the right hand drive rear door opens the same way. I test drove on just the other day and loved it
I think this is one of the best looking Defenders so far. Nice review
I really love this 2020 Defender and by far this the best review on youtube. If i have the money now, i will definitely get this explorer pack plus the step bar and the folded ladder on the left side. Looks off road sick on the outside coz it is but elegant and refine on the inside. Now I need that money....
I will never understand why people want a post 2000s Land/Range Rover. Frankly, it spends more time at the mechanics than in the garage. Friends have bought some, all broke. Now TFL's new defender cracked a CEL at 167 miles in.
Checking in to say we’ve owned multiple land rovers of the new generation without issue. Biggest problem with the defender currently is that it is so new that replacement parts (like windshields) take a while to get.
@@TheTravisTube Yeah plenty of rovers go hundreds of thousands of miles with few problems. I will never understand people that see one RUclips channel have a problem and think that's how they all are. It's like 4runner fans thinking they are the most reliable SUV ever made when reality shows they are above average but not the best.
Defenders are built in Slovakia. Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer test drives a car at Crazy Vaclav's Place of Automobiles:
"She'll go 300 hectares on a single tank of kerosene."
"What country is this car from?"
"It no longer exists."
"Put it in H!"
This is what the new discovery should have been. But LOVE this spec. Looks great.
Yeah my first car was the Discovery Series in that classic British green that you guys showed for the double small sunroofs and side Alpine windows. Transmission eventually broke down, but it was cool to drive a LR when I started learning to drive. I took photos of it before we traded it in for a 1st gen X3 (which we still have). Home is Portland, OR so plenty of hilly terrain and decent amount of winter weather. But never got to use that cool differential gear shifter that was at the front of the main gear selector. Will try to share those on IG and tag you guys when I am home later this month.
I know "why don't you guys do old cars anymore" is an FAQ, but have you considered doing what RCR does where owners offer their cars? Maybe even starting a second channel for it? I'm sure there's a reason for everything, but I'd love this sort of in depth journalism on used cars, and then that way you could even have a segment about reliability/notes from the owner.
4:14 A thing on the roof!!! Dude, that's the roof rack.
The POV of the lane assist was really cool. Would love to see that view through Cliche Corner!
Watch the yellow supra review. And some other videos
Had mine for 3 months. School run. Check. Towing. Check. Off Roading. Check. Engine Check light. Uncheck.
Nobody is doing serious off-road with 20" wheels though.
U think defender built it just for that? 😂 if u want a serious off-roader then u build it. No factory built anything in 2020 has everything.
Well, they are, they just want to do other things as well
Love the review..have a question.. Isn't Land rover as a brand famous for its unreliability?..correct me if wrong..
Yes, new ones breakes down quick
Within 48 hours/167 miles on TFL's channel
Yeah..i once saw a review of range rover many days ago..i don't remember the youtube channel now..but it was when land rover had just introduced their new dual screen infotainment layout..the reviewer had started the car and then the screens froze... like the screen was giving no feedback..the guy was touching the screen but no feedback..
They're typically unreliable because they keep on trying to use new but unrefined technology that they have no experience with so it breaks quite a bit.
It is not exactly 100 percent true I had one it isn't as unreliable as ppl say
The check engine light is part of the interior lighting system!
As an owner of a 1973 Series III, I have only noticed four similarities between this and my Landy. There are five tires (four on axles and one spare), a steering wheel, a floor, and a roof.
Yeah,...these are def cool -- I would love to,.....um,......"hustle" over to the Whole Foods in this and strap my groceries to the roof rack.
*If the reliability is there, this could be a big winner for Land Rover*
it will never
Go watch TFL. They had a nightmare of a time with one. Hopefully it was a one off but it's not a good look.
But its not...
I like it. And I’m a fan of the inline 6 turbo. Very cool.
Love the jacket in the intro . Jacket game going up
I feel like a good use for that box on the side would be for recovery gear like d rings receiver hitches and straps, so you can quickly access them without taking all of your camping gear and other overlanding goodies out
To answer your question, “What do you need the pass through in front for ...?” It’s for your purse! Finally!
I iutbmy large Fanny pack in the door but yes! Purse is good too
The only tailgate that open to the left was a Jeep Liberty that was designed and made in the USA the other sport utes where design by Japanese and British due to their driving side.
Ha, I knew you'd be boarders! Happy to see you joining Chill.
This felt more like an advertisement than a review. There's so much that can break on this vehicle. I would be afraid to rely on it for any serious off-roading.
That's a shame. Because Land Rover has a solid reputation for reliable,go-anywhere vehicles that lasted years, even decades, with proper maintenance and care. 😀 ❤
Is no one going to comment on the “718 SPYDER IS AMAZING AND WE WERE WRONG” box??
It actually looks pretty cosie in there. I like this new Land Rover.
I love it. Bud I'd also want proper lane holding assist.
I've heard some horror stories of problems in just the first week.
So have I - with mine!
@@DH-sm7sw im so so sorry...that you bought one >:)

Isnt it on warranty for the first 5 years anyways ?
“Everyone gets angry about everything these days” is too true.
Andie the Lab is such a neat channel, it's cool seeing their box
The most underrated RUclips channel
Love all the “how’s the reliability” questions. It’s a brand new car, you won’t know for another 5 more years. Check back and comment then
Pretty much!
TFLnow had check engine light on their new LR Defender within 48 hours 😂
It shows check engine light at 154 miles on the odometer.
@@LaplacianFourier close! That’s the parking break....
One RUclips channel. It's valid and not good but it's getting embarrassing seeing everyone quote the issues of a single channel/owner.
This and the Sport SVR are tied for best Land/Range Rover in my opinion
True, the vogue is really good but i feel it’s not for car guys, more for old people or a family car
Velar is the best looking
@@tonyc6996 I don’t like the normal velar, but the Velar SVAutobiography is the best looking RR
Except, not to be a pedant but, this isn’t a Range Rover. But I think this and the full-size RR with the TD6 are the best *Land Rovers*
Theres a differences between Range Rover's and Land Rover's. RR is a Car and LR is the brand :/
Vertical pass through on the center console would be great for large Yeti/RTIC/Hydroflask bottles! They don't fit in cup holders and end up rolling around everywhere.
The way the rear door opens is the right hand drive method. It should open the opposite way in a left hand drive vehicle. This is because you park on the right instead of the left. So if you're parked and want to load something, you're going to have trouble since it opens toward the curb and not towards the street.
LOL on the box test. “L. Dong “. Is his first name “Long “ ?
It's "Lee - Toe"...
I work at Starbucks and so I get a lot of new cars coming through but I saw this come in last week through the drive through and it’s stunning. The outside looks beautiful and the inside is luxurious but also minimalistic at the same time. The road presence this thing has is very high and people were asking me what it is, (since I was staring at it).
sorry lol, you are the embodiment of the trendy kid who's only perspective of "luxury" is what Brand name a car has. That interior is literally the most basic thing Range River offers and definitely looks cheap. They justified this by saying it's "do durable' because of the cheap materials, but then you realize it's $60k+ and youre just left asking why. The car looks like a cheap plastic clad Japanese SUV, yet is no where near as reliable
@@weasle2904 damn who new that cars only have one view and not everyone can have a different opinion, also I’m a massive JDM fan and my favourite cars are Honda’s but I guess that doesn’t matter because I like the way a car looks. Also why does it matter if I like a car and you don’t.
Fabulous ride! Wish it had a high set horizontal front bumper though...
Also the interior trim that’s white is an option, they have dark grey, light grey, or white. It’s not dependent on exterior color.
I'm not sure I would feel confident taking the new Defender anywhere outside of city after seeing a famous RUclips channel showed all the problems they had with their brand new Defender. Check engine light at 167 miles (when they scan it said Cyl 2 & 3 air + fuel mix value out of range). When that is fixed at the dealer another problem at 308 miles - No rear view camera. At least me personally would not use such unreliable vehicle for our travels.
Thats just software issues and the car never stopped or went into limp mode. Would not bother me.
I’ve had mine for over a year and no problems at all.
Ah, the amazing Defender which broke after 167 miles from new. Can't even get through a review without Check Engine
The Defender is the perfect vehicle for those that want to go glamping at the dealership repair center.
Absolutely the best spec of all pov about the new defender
"Everyone gets angry about everything these days" Keyboard warriors, show yourselves.
Damn that defender looks good
In the shop? Yes it does.
Looks great on the back of a rollback.
WOW...No check engine light????? Now that is amazing.
Can’t wait to see a head to head with this and bronco with Sasquatch pack and V6 vs V6
Fastlane cars had theirs brake down in just 2 days, not kidding.
Last check they had owned it for 12 days, and have had it drivable for all of 2. Ouch.
Was about to make the same comment. It’s a piece of junk from China. But I think they’ll make money with this because we people are dumb
@@ashrafc7794 ??? JLR is an Indian owned company, which develops their vehicles in the UK, and the Defender is assembled in Slovakia. What does this have anything to do with China? Also JLR have been renowned for the poor quality of their vehicles for literally decades. They don't need an assist from China to maintain this reputation at all!
@@tren133 I stand corrected. I know they’re owned by TATA but thought they’re built in China. Actually, they might breakdown less if the Chinese were involved I think. Anyways, hopefully people are smart enough to lease them over buying them
@@ashrafc7794 Actually I do think JLR has a plant in China but the defender isn't built there. The thing about China is that no one in earth has manufacturing infrastructure that can match them, and you get exactly what you pay for. The best and worst manufactured products are made in China. Knowing JLR though, I'm not sure any of their factories put out reliable stuff.
I have seen a couple of these driving around and in person these look SOO good!!

I bought one because I am studying to be an Electrical Engineer and I figured all the practice fixing it would do me some good. It expands its ability as a learning tool by providing a good example of how not to engineer electrical systems. It truly is a do-everything vehicle!
Call me old school but with that kind of money I’d get a classic second hand Defender. This is just pretentious twaddle that’ll probably breakdown when it encounters a small puddle.
As can be seen in various trials, this Defender is more capable and comfortable.
@@JohnnyZenith Helped by electronics.. Give me a mechanical system anyday.
@@JohnnyZenith stop running around white knighting JLR please? You arent convincing anybody that these are reliable cars.
One RUclips channel has a check engine light come on, for something kind of minor, and now all the Defenders are going to fall apart according to the comments. It's a brand new model, the first ones sometimes have growing pains no matter what kind of vehicle it is. I've bought a couple of first year model cars, one had a pesky problem that took several shop visits to get sorted out and the other one was perfect.
The comments embarrass me a little. One customer/RUclipsr has an issue and they all speak as if that's the only example you need.
Land Rover has been producing some of the most unreliable vehicles for over 20 years now with horrific resale value. You’re going to tell me they suddenly got it right???
Saw one for the first time here in Virginia yesterday, thing looks great
