Lets be honest. Borderlands 3 completely threw a wrench into the story that the series has built up and has so many inconsistencies its astounding. Im not sure if the Tiny Tina game will save the franchise, but if BL4 is anything like BL3 this series wont last much longer.
As someone who didn't play any of the dlc for any of them besides campaign of carnage and didn't play borderlands again after my single bl2 playthrough only to play bl3 7 times and be on an 8th however long since release later disagrees I think the story being very About Bad Family and leaning really hard into every character being either an obnoxious sociopath, an obnoxious sociopath trying to be loved, Regular Cool Person, completely psychologically broken murderer, Tina, or Daddy Issues really alienated people who wanted like. Sane shit. My obnoxious, schizophrenic ass loves it though 🤪 Plus the gay dudes are just gay and don't have Gay as an extra personality category, so honestly it wins over most things w gay dudes in them Edit: I also never finished borderlands 1 bc it's very boring ❤ But yeah bl3 would have been significantly more liked if the villains weren't a boomer's interpretation of streamers
I get it claptrap is annoying, however I do enjoy his company when the world often gets so bleak, he is a nice break from some of the mindless violence
If Gearbox wants to (and I'm not saying that they would), they could easily retcon Aurelia dead in BL3 by saying that she swapped out a body double (or just a fake body decoy) at the last minute before the BL3-Vault hunter killed her and went into hiding.
Its even in a line from aurelia " that was... Wow. I'm evil but thats just." And then jack starts talking after he released the scientists into space that you just rescued
Nisha and Wilhelm I can agree with how they were handled being a bad thing, I feel like that's how their story would end anyway, a VH killing them for one reason or the other, they don't seem like the sort of people who would betray Jack, even after his downfall. Auralia was done dirty, like damn, she was a bitchy character before, but a refined bitch, but BL3... Nah, just a straight up bitch, and it wasn't right.
The Aurelia thing pisses me off to no end, She didnt even have to die. I don't think she really wanted to kill Hammerlock or even Wainwright because when she shot them right before you battle her she didn't aim for any vital spots on them. Shes a seasoned vault hunter so i'd like to think she can hit Headshots or Chest shots with ease. It was just a sibling rivalry thing.. it would've been so cool if after her fight we just put her in second wind then revive her and she just... goes away after admitting defeat possibly to return later
@@Black_Aces they really glossed over the rule for making complex characters of need(theme) wants ghost(backstory), and Lie(perspective) All she has is a want to be a bitch. No really purpose in theming. Her backstory is that she was always a bitch. And her perspective is to have a want to be a bitch her staying alive after the boss fight let’s say her admitting she just wanted the attention from her reclusive brother who left the family Would fill in every thing else, quite easily with family being the theme, and allowing the ghost or lie to exist.
They could easily bring back Nisha or Aurelia if they wanted with the "body double" retcon. It would even make more sense for Aurelia since she is simply too rich to die and was around to see how it worked with Timothy.
I wonder if there's anyone left on Elpis after the events of BL3. I mean the whole moon being shoved around with telekinesis can't have good outcome. 🌋🌪️🌊
Doubly so, since isn't that planetoid thing in the bl4 reveal supposed to be elpis? And it straight up gets dragged across some sort of planetary barrier thing.
I really wish we'll find out while Nisha was laying low(ish) on Pandora that she'd secretly had a child from her time with Handsome Jack.. a combination of those two would be a truly frightening prospect.🌠
In no uncertain terms, two words. Character Assassination. Gearbox straight up does a disservice to many of the former Vault Hunters with Claptrap probably getting it the worst. Nisha dies, Wilhelm dies, Lady Hammerlock dies, Athena disappears and Timothy gets stuck in a casino for seven years and then needs to be rescued by the New Hunters and Moxxie.
Im an Aurelia main, and it sucks what they did to her in BL3. They just ignored the whole 'gather all the Vault Hunters' thing and I was hoping Aurelia and the rest of the TPS VH were on our side together with the BL2 VHs. A lot of missed opportunities tbh
Idea: What if some Handsome Jack is brought back because of Rhys and Timothy? Timothy doesn't want anything to do with the Crimson Raiders or Atlas, but one of the Atlas scientists uses his DNA and Rhys's old eye to bring back Jack. They don't have to mention what Rhys did with his eye (whether he kept it or destroyed it), but some scientist who is obsessed with Jack brought him back using Timothy. It could be either Timothy becomes a host for Jack or they make a Jack like android.
Nisha and Aurelia are the two most wasted potential of the Borderlands storyline. They both had the most promising plot-shaking possibilities, but where both killed like nothing in side missions. PARTICULARLY Aurelia. She was done SO dirty in BL3... but then again, the writing of this game was so atrocious it doesn't feel canon.
Aurelia didn't deserve to be used as a throwaway villain like that. I'd rather her not been in the game, rather than just reverse her character arc from TPS
Honestly I think Athena took over Hyperion after the events of the pre-sequal and talese story line mainly because her skill was her shield and hyperion weapons have shields when aiming down site in borderlands 3, just a theory I would love to be confirmed. Just Athena and Janey running hyperion together.
It's a shame they did Aurelia so dirty. It's like they took a look at some cliffnotes and said "yeah, we can write this character". Like, goddamn, one of the sidequests in TPS has her explicitly saying she wouldn't cast her lot with the kind of obsessive nutjobs that the CoV and twins are, and another where she just avoids her brother but still helps him. And they retconned the whole storyline that was playing out during the arena DLC. Or maybe we'll be lucky and they'll retcon the retcon and bring everything back and just call BL3's Aurelia "a rogue body double taking advantage of the CoV".
Regarding Athena, does no one remember the DLC for BL1, where you meet up with her and she’s still an assassin? I feel like people have forgotten that bit
You don’t know anxiety unless you maimed Timothy in TPS and spent the years between that game and the Jackpot DLC wondering if he was the Jack doppelgänger you kill in Opportunity
I have a feeling that the original writers for B2 had partially or fully left the company prior to B3. So when the new writers came in they had the original story but a different vision as well as the tales from the borderlands games affecting the story of the main games is why I think B3 had some awkward lore details.
3 of them are alive. one lost all of his powers. the other has lost his arm and is just happy to be free and the last one we dont know what they are doing more than she is probably married by now and isnt allowed to do bounty hunting stuff
Nisha: Killed semi-unceremoniously. Aurelia: Killed semi-unceremoniously. Wilhelm: Backstabbed, poisoned, and killed semi-unceremoniously. CL4P-T: Original VA fired unceremoniously. Timothy: Yet another attempt to shoehorn Handsome Jack into an upcoming game. BL4 needs to be good, and I mean BL2 good, for Gearbox to keep making Borderlands games. The franchise was on life support after 3 and NEW Tales From The Borderlands made a valiant effort to keep it that way.
You hope too much amigo. Nowadays, companies would rather ban you from buying their games for silly reasons then send the IRS after you for NOT buying their crap games. You really think Borderlands 4 can be "saved" when they're already working on it with the stain of the Earth known as Randy Pitchford?
"We regret killing an interesting character so casually, because we could have used her to write a much more interesting story later. We learned a valuable lesson from this. Which is why we did it again."
I feel like with Timothee having some of Jack's DNA and being set free at the end kf the DLC, that this was Gearbox's way of setting up Handsome Jack returning for 4, becoming Jack like how Batman becomes the Joker slowly in Arkham Knight
Claptrapt ls like that one retired vet who went through so much, fought hard and nearly lost his life in battle but survived and became a side character who people find annoying not realising that this same unit HELPED Jack to try and save life in TPS.
He ran back into the casino to meet up with Moxx. She remembered what she said to him. Meaning that everything he recieved from her and she did too him. If it was seemingly spiteful. It was to play the point. And if it was good/romantic. Its because she was into him.
It'd be a cop out but they could bring back willhelm because his cybernetics could have been used to clone him or have the one you kill in bl2 be a fake And Nisha in lynchwood could have been a body double because Jack was really God damn rich he'd have no problem make one of her
imagine if the plot of borderlands 4 is timothy being taken over by his "jack" DNA, and were essentially fighting handsome jack again. This franchise would literally crumble more than it already has lmao
It gonna lie, I absolutely love how peeved you sound whenever you has to state which Pre-Sequel Vault Hunter is dead! Definitely understandable though!
Speaking of Borderlands 3, I would like to think Rhys (from Tales) kept Jack's eye and either gave or sold it back to Hyperion and in turn created the Handome Jackhammer . . . I hope Blake is the new CEO of Hyperion. I liked him in Borderlands franchise, a villain that would give you a 1 hour headstart.
We need desesperatly Aurelia and Jack back to Borderlands plot, they could make an alliance and be the two main villain like the Calypso brothers, but this time in a great way. Jack can return if someone put his counscience in Timothy's body like what happened to Rhys, and Aurelia she could be bring back by her Cryo Technology or something like that after her final fight in Borderlands 3. Or she could even be bring back by Jakobs technology because they have the best biological research in the game. This plot would be amazing because Aurelia's death was so unfair and annoying and Jack is one of the most popular character in Borderlands.
I think if jack was to somehow come back, it would be awsome if there is a dlc in bl3 for his redemption. Or in the next game if there is one. Of course his skills and such would be different if he becomes a chracter. Itd also be cool if timothy and jacks personalities mixed to create someone new. But knowing how borderlands works, hed become a hot mess lol
Athena is my favourite character in Borderlands, I have her tattoo in the same place on my right arm. I just want even 1 tiny mention of her again please
I would love to see in borderlands 4 that timothy has been able to remove the jack mask and has gottwn his old face back somewhat after extensive surgery from zed.
So to summarize Athena: held Hostaged but forgotten about by the writers Nisha: dead/demoted to sidequest boss Wilhelm: dead but main(ish) boss Clap: alive but dead inside (personally and voice actor wise) Rhymes with Jimothy: Got it ROUGH Aurelia: spends the rest of her life flexing on Hammerlock until she gets flexed on in borderlands 3
Only 2 survivors from the most fun game in the series and the writers straight up forgot about one of them. Not since the warhammer lore have I heard such heresy
My predictions. clap trap tries to commit suicide but the universe iself forbids it. He is the only one who can stop the ultimate evil so they give him vaulthunter.exe, perfected claptrap programing, remove programmed limitations (letting shadow tp out)and a decent voice module.
Aurelia was rich enough to imitate what jack did and make a doppelganger to dodge the heat of tps events. Given how out of character her bl3 writing was that's my head cannon.
as much as I love Aure, and would love to see her return. if they were to ever do anything with a non-Jack doppelganger, it'd probably be Rhys, then we'd have an explanation of why he's A) around and B) totally separate from every one of his friends. I mean, I guess they could just do it with both characters, but then it'd feel kinda, like, cheap?
I loved Aurelia the first character I played CO’OP with with my brother then just to see her get shot a few times and die in borderlands 3 was not the best

Lets be honest. Borderlands 3 completely threw a wrench into the story that the series has built up and has so many inconsistencies its astounding.
Im not sure if the Tiny Tina game will save the franchise, but if BL4 is anything like BL3 this series wont last much longer.
I couldn't agree more 👍
The gameplay will always be decent to great and I understand that it’s hard to follow up on bl2’s story but damn bl3’s story is absolutely horrible.
@@plabcentral630 The main difference between BL2 and BL3 is that I didn’t want the antagonist to step on me in BL2
As someone who didn't play any of the dlc for any of them besides campaign of carnage and didn't play borderlands again after my single bl2 playthrough only to play bl3 7 times and be on an 8th however long since release later disagrees
I think the story being very About Bad Family and leaning really hard into every character being either an obnoxious sociopath, an obnoxious sociopath trying to be loved, Regular Cool Person, completely psychologically broken murderer, Tina, or Daddy Issues really alienated people who wanted like. Sane shit. My obnoxious, schizophrenic ass loves it though 🤪
Plus the gay dudes are just gay and don't have Gay as an extra personality category, so honestly it wins over most things w gay dudes in them
Edit: I also never finished borderlands 1 bc it's very boring ❤
But yeah bl3 would have been significantly more liked if the villains weren't a boomer's interpretation of streamers
@@TheNecromorphkiller zoomer
I get it claptrap is annoying, however I do enjoy his company when the world often gets so bleak, he is a nice break from some of the mindless violence
Borderlands is pretty light hearted
If Gearbox wants to (and I'm not saying that they would), they could easily retcon Aurelia dead in BL3 by saying that she swapped out a body double (or just a fake body decoy) at the last minute before the BL3-Vault hunter killed her and went into hiding.
Or revive her in an undead form, like Tk Baha
Honestly, they should retcon that entire game. The gameplay was fantastic, keep everything that made that good, but dump the story.
@@miller_koth that would be very good, make a comic telling the new story or something like that, or just a remake of the game with new cutscenes
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, BL3 really did my Lady Aurelia dirty.
And her perspective is to have a want to be a bitch
her staying alive after the boss fight let’s say her admitting she just wanted the attention from her reclusive brother who left the family Would fill in every thing else, quite easily with family being the theme, and allowing the ghost or lie to exist.
I hope Aurelia's death gets retconned somehow, she was done dirty by borderlands 3
They could easily bring back Nisha or Aurelia if they wanted with the "body double" retcon. It would even make more sense for Aurelia since she is simply too rich to die and was around to see how it worked with Timothy.
I'm still salty that they made Aurelia a villain again
Aurelia deserved such a better ending than the one she got, same with Nisha
Nisha dies, Wilhelm dies, Lady Hammerlock dies, Athena disappears and Timothy gets stuck in a casino for seven years and then needs to be rescued by the New Hunters and Moxxie.
nisha and wilhelm died before pre-sequel even came out
Im an Aurelia main, and it sucks what they did to her in BL3. They just ignored the whole 'gather all the Vault Hunters' thing and I was hoping Aurelia and the rest of the TPS VH were on our side together with the BL2 VHs. A lot of missed opportunities tbh
Athena is the only non returning character in borderlands 3 which pains me cause she’s my favorite character
She may return bc they might make a bdl 4
She's a lame Mary Sue
It’s just so cool to me that claptrap is canonically a vault hunter
Idea: What if some Handsome Jack is brought back because of Rhys and Timothy? Timothy doesn't want anything to do with the Crimson Raiders or Atlas, but one of the Atlas scientists uses his DNA and Rhys's old eye to bring back Jack. They don't have to mention what Rhys did with his eye (whether he kept it or destroyed it), but some scientist who is obsessed with Jack brought him back using Timothy. It could be either Timothy becomes a host for Jack or they make a Jack like android.
Wasn't there a scientist like this in the presquel there's a side mission where you help create a jack robot but without the DNA thing and eye
Well nakayama already kinda did that so I don’t think they would do it again
Nisha and Aurelia are the two most wasted potential of the Borderlands storyline.
They both had the most promising plot-shaking possibilities, but where both killed like nothing in side missions.
PARTICULARLY Aurelia. She was done SO dirty in BL3... but then again, the writing of this game was so atrocious it doesn't feel canon.
Presequal was so good. They did they did that game dirty with BL3.
Aurelia didn't deserve to be used as a throwaway villain like that. I'd rather her not been in the game, rather than just reverse her character arc from TPS
Wilhelm was also slowly dying due to the rustvirus he was infected with due to shoddy cybernetic installation.
Honestly I think Athena took over Hyperion after the events of the pre-sequal and talese story line mainly because her skill was her shield and hyperion weapons have shields when aiming down site in borderlands 3, just a theory I would love to be confirmed. Just Athena and Janey running hyperion together.
Hyperion is currently run by Mr. Blake (it's confirmed in tales and i may be wrong but i believe i've seen smth in bl3 as well)
I wonder is there a history for a face mkshooty i mean his quest is goffy but i rly wander abaut his lore.
I love this so much- I dont think you understand how much these videos help with my understanding of borderlands
That takes place before all this so it isn’t relevant
I don’t think it is completely relevant, as the video says “after pre-sequel and I’m pretty sure Borderlands 1 is set after then? 🤔
@@jarydjones2177 Bl1 is the first in the chronology.
@@jarydjones2177The story Athena’s telling Lilith in pre-seq takes place between 1 and 2, but Athena being captured takes place a bit after 2
@@JohnSmith-xt1br Yes, but I’m referring to the DLC for Borderlands 1, which is about Athena.
You don’t know anxiety unless you maimed Timothy in TPS and spent the years between that game and the Jackpot DLC wondering if he was the Jack doppelgänger you kill in Opportunity
The Pre-Sequel VH’s: Dead, Dead, Dead, recently non-imprisoned, claptrap, Gay
I have a feeling that the original writers for B2 had partially or fully left the company prior to B3. So when the new writers came in they had the original story but a different vision as well as the tales from the borderlands games affecting the story of the main games is why I think B3 had some awkward lore details.
And New Tales, that crap was bad.
That's a big motivation taking over what we can assume a multi billion intergalactic firearms company so aurelia does have a big motivation
"We regret killing an interesting character so casually, because we could have used her to write a much more interesting story later. We learned a valuable lesson from this.
Which is why we did it again."
man, i love borderlands franchise.
My sister: you said that to RESIDENT EVIL and DMC as well.
I love Jack but I hope for Timothy’s sake they don’t do that idea of using jacks dna to make Timothy into jack
Yeah since they clearly fuck up all the previous characters
I feel like with Timothee having some of Jack's DNA and being set free at the end kf the DLC, that this was Gearbox's way of setting up Handsome Jack returning for 4, becoming Jack like how Batman becomes the Joker slowly in Arkham Knight
hopefully Timothy comes back in BL4, as the hero jack wanted to be all the time and with some good one liners.
Alright I’ll watch the video. But you better say that Athena and Janey are happily married and living a simple quiet life.
Claptrapt ls like that one retired vet who went through so much, fought hard and nearly lost his life in battle but survived and became a side character who people find annoying not realising that this same unit HELPED Jack to try and save life in TPS.
Oh, I’ve been waiting for this
He ran back into the casino to meet up with Moxx. She remembered what she said to him. Meaning that everything he recieved from her and she did too him. If it was seemingly spiteful. It was to play the point. And if it was good/romantic. Its because she was into him.
It'd be a cop out but they could bring back willhelm because his cybernetics could have been used to clone him or have the one you kill in bl2 be a fake
And
Nisha in lynchwood could have been a body double because Jack was really God damn rich he'd have no problem make one of her
imagine if the plot of borderlands 4 is timothy being taken over by his "jack" DNA, and were essentially fighting handsome jack again. This franchise would literally crumble more than it already has lmao
It gonna lie, I absolutely love how peeved you sound whenever you has to state which Pre-Sequel Vault Hunter is dead! Definitely understandable though!
I love how the majority of this video is explaining how under-utilised most of the characters are
In order of title card: On the moon, dead, dead, somehow alive, running a space casino, dead
In the Pre-Sequel, I'd play as Nisha or Aurelia.
Sheriff dead Aurelia dead Wilhelm dead clap trap still lives, jack doppelganger idk if it's real jack or doppelganger jack
A bl4 dlc about saving Timothy from jacks influence similar to bl3 Krieg dlc would be awesome 👌
was a serious waste to just turn Aurelia into a saturday-morning cartoon villain
Timmothy pulling an classic joker move with the dna thing
Borderlands 4: brick comes back as the prettiest siren
When I see Ganyu it reminds me of you O_o?
3:43 And most of us watching are DEFINITELY familiar with that sort of thing, aren't we?
Our most annoying boss claptrap still harbors resentment to jack thanks to shadow trap keeping him alive long enough for hammerlock to fix frag trap
What if they somehow use timothy and some cool shit to bring back Handsome Jack to becaome the leadeor of the universe.
I missed scooter thanks for seeing him in a clip
This is a really depressing video.
I didn't even know one of them was dead.
Wooo!! More Borderlands! This is gonna be sweet!!😊
i really liked wilhelm and felt bad he died in borderlands 2
if the vault hunters didnt kill him he would have died due to his cybernetic enhancements
Oh I wish Wilhem should have had an Intro when you fight him in BL2 just like Aurelia having an Intro when you fight her in BL3 :((
They have to make a borderlands 4 showing what happened after Tyreen died
Next Borderlands better have a member of the Mr.Torge Family as one of the next Vault Hunters the explosion chaos they'd bring to gameplay
I'm really disappointed that Gearbox didn't add me in Borderlands 3.
I am forever mad about what they did to Aurelia. She was done dirty.
Could you do what happened to the tales from the borderlands characters next please? 😁😁
As a straight guy I honestly think sir hammerlock and Wayne wright make a good couple also Athena and Jackie
So to summarize
Athena: held Hostaged but forgotten about by the writers
Nisha: dead/demoted to sidequest boss
Wilhelm: dead but main(ish) boss
Clap: alive but dead inside (personally and voice actor wise)
Rhymes with Jimothy: Got it ROUGH
Aurelia: spends the rest of her life flexing on Hammerlock until she gets flexed on in borderlands 3
Only 2 survivors from the most fun game in the series and the writers straight up forgot about one of them. Not since the warhammer lore have I heard such heresy
They did everyone in TPS kinda dirty here lol
My predictions. clap trap tries to commit suicide but the universe iself forbids it. He is the only one who can stop the ultimate evil so they give him vaulthunter.exe, perfected claptrap programing, remove programmed limitations (letting shadow tp out)and a decent voice module.
Who knows? gearbox doesn't seem to even care about the main characters of the story. Let alone the VH's
They have something planned. The whole war is supposed to come later than expected
Nisha's death happens in an optional side-quest right. Could she still be alive depending on if side-quests are canon?
Aurelia was rich enough to imitate what jack did and make a doppelganger to dodge the heat of tps events. Given how out of character her bl3 writing was that's my head cannon.
which is what I want to happen as well. that would explain things in BL3 well.
as much as I love Aure, and would love to see her return. if they were to ever do anything with a non-Jack doppelganger, it'd probably be Rhys, then we'd have an explanation of why he's A) around and B) totally separate from every one of his friends.
I mean, I guess they could just do it with both characters, but then it'd feel kinda, like, cheap?
Yes. I refuse to believe she is truly dead. She was my main and I really liked her character
Well, at least she didn’t kill her brother
She still loved him
I'm learning that there were 2 extra vault hunters... I only played vanilla. Just got the DLC though!
I wanted more borderlands and I got more borderland.
I loved Aurelia the first character I played CO’OP with with my brother then just to see her get shot a few times and die in borderlands 3 was not the best
for Nisha. they really did work them selfs intoa hole with how poppular she became after the presequal, could see them pulling the body double route like jack, she was his gf at the time soo that could work
Imagine killing a monster inside a vault yet getting killed by a random player
