      It is not at all inevitable. The Position of FIA President is not connected to F1. The FIA president gets elected by the FIA member clubs so as long as Ben Sulayem has the votes he can remain as President for a total of three terms/12 years.

    The race director must be a figure with extremely high, already existing, levels of respect throughout the paddock.
    The reason Charlie Whiting was so incredibly effective is the huge amount of respect he had earned. Everyone always knew he was right, even if they wished he wasn’t. If he wasn’t right, he admitted it, and if anyone disagreed he was openly happy to discuss and there was never an issue after that.

    A few days ago every F1 driver signs a letter calling out Bin Sulayem, then mysteriously Wittich "steps down".
    I spent half of my life in the UAE and can confidently join the dots here.
    Bin Sulayem, shocked at the cheek of the drivers for having the nerve to complain about him, had a quick look around for someone to throw under the F1 car, and Wittich just happened to be walking past.
    It's a cultural thing. They don't take criticism very well.

Whiting made plenty of mistakes, and took the hits for it - the important thing he brought was openly talking to the drivers and teams about how he view the rules, and why he made the decisions he did. By justifying that controversial decision and letting everyone follow along on his thinking even when you are losing out you know what is going on, and can understand what to expect going forward. Unlike F1 since liberty media where and Whiting's death where only stuff that can't harm the sports image or can't possibly be hidden is talked about - sure the public might never have to gotten to hear everything, but at least the teams/drivers got to talk it through behind closed doors so everyone knows what is going on for some semblance of fairness.

    Race directing has been a mess and quite frankly dangerous. Numerous obvious red flags or SC calls coming extremely late etc. been a mess since Masi. Can they right the ship? Race directing should be pretty straightforward, with black and white rules to follow and quick judgements made, but it feels more and like there’s pressure to deliver more entertainment.. which is a dangerous place to be.

    • @dizzyduck44
      @dizzyduck44 3 дня назад

      What part of the situation do you struggle with. 2 seconds after Stroll left the track, Le Clerc dumped Max out of the top 10. 2 seconds. At that exact moment Stroll was trying to move his car back to the track and yellows were out. Max was a car behind Stroll. Max was never going to improve his lap.
      There was 1.35 left on the clock when Max was relegated to 11th. Even with a red flag right then, the best times going on were 1.28/1.29. To get another run in he would need to be at the front of the queue and pull a quali lap on cold tyres and unsighted conditions, using his battery to make the line to get a timed lap.
      Whether the red flag took 2 seconds 10 seconds, 20 seconds or 52 seconds, Max was out.

    Its all about the way Safety was applied during the Brasilian race. It was a mess.... Remember Jules Bianchi Japan 2014. You just cannot wait with SC's or Red Flags. When Norris decided to do another warm up lap, he should have holded the rest and let Norris start from pit-lane, because there was immediate danger for the crew working on stroll's car. After all, Stroll went off at that point in a warm up lap, so there would be a genuine risk someone else could go off there again and hurt the trackside stewards. So Safty first.... That will be the reason he got sacked if you ask me. And right they were to do so.

The FIA and FOM are constantly at logger heads. I think Ben Sulayem needs to be replaced with someone that does not have the Arab countries in their ear. He makes decisions, and then changes them, as if someone else is telling him what to do. Something has not been right with F1 for quite a while now - starting at the top, and ending with the stewards.

    I don't care who is in charge. What I want is someone who writes the rules properly, and applies them equally to all drivers, regardless of them fighting for P1 or for P18. We cannot have some drivers getting away with stuff while others get penalties for the exact same thing. And I am not saying this for Max only. The amount of discrepancies with penalties is very frustrating. Some get penalties for one action, and others for the exact same thing don't... We have seen this in qualifyings, in FPs and during race weekends...
