Me and my son met Martin at the British Grand Prix in about 2006, my son asked for an autograph but we didn’t have a pen between the three of us, Martin said we should come back with a pen after qualifying and he would signed an autograph, we turned up and through a crowd we saw Martin looking around for somebody, he spotted us and came straight over and asked if we had a pen and signed Joe’s race programme, we are still amazed by his kind gesture and still can’t believe that he remembered us and stood by his word, what an absolute gentleman.

Synthetic fuels are still a long way off I think. The cars will get slightly lighter with the removal of the mgu h which will also make them louder. Though the battery getting bigger will add back some of the weight. The size is partly a side effect of safety as you need space to crumple and absorb energy or we'd return to the dark days of drivers being serious injured or worse, same is true for modern road cars. It is not the crash that kills, but the rapid deceleration mincing organs. So I can't see how cars get smaller by too much. Perhaps easier to make tracks bigger I guess.

14:38 Gerhard Berger has the best Eddie Jordan story ever told: Once in the early 2000s (either 2002 or 2003, I don't exactly remember) Eddie Jordan and Ron Dennis were flying back to the UK together with Gerhard Berger on his plane, who was the head of motorsport for BMW at the time. Before they took off Gerhard made a BMW employee print out a fake engine supply contract between BMW and Minardi, which would grant the Italian backmarkers exclusive customer status. He then put that paper in his briefcase and on the plane he made sure that it sticks out a bit for Eddie and Ron to see, while Gerhard went to see the pilot. Eddie took the bait, sniffing a chance to get out of his engine contract with Ford and get the best V10 on the grid. So he kept nagging Gerhard for HOURS(!) to reconsider and give the BMW engines to Jordan instead. Back in the UK, Eddie didn't want to give up and went to Bernie Ecclestone to ask for help in trying to persuade Gerhard into giving Eddie the BMW engines. Bernie immediately called Gerhard to do something about this pesky irishman in his office. Gerhard couldn't keep his scheme alive anymore and told them it was all just a hoax 😂Unsurprisingly, Eddie wasn't quite as amused as Gerhard was about this situation.
Typical Gerhard. This is a man back in Mclaren years used to throw Senna's briefcase out of helicoper, put frog on Senna's bed plus lots of other shenanigans. Him pranking EJ would be a normal behaviour
@@plisskenationbackfromthede3657 There is even more behind that story. Berger wanted to prank EJ, because he wouldn't shut up about how great of an engine supplier Ford is. Gerhard knew exactly that EJ would go down on his knees, begging him to get his hands on a BMW engine. Seeing EJ make a 180° turn, suddenly forgetting all about Ford and not being able to sleep for hours was quite a nice picture for Berger.

Martin Brundle is, next to DC, the only British pundit I trust to be somewhat objective. He's a great personality and a fantastic commentator who appreciates greatness when he sees it, regardless whether the driver is British or not.
Ban concrete runoffs, there should always be a price to pay during a race when you run wide off track or push opponents the track to gain an advantage thats not wheel to wheel racing
Mate F1 wouldn't be what it is without you!! I love your humour and opinions. You and your son are both brilliant windows into motor racing. Really cool seeing your son adopt James Broadbent, brilliant idea. Would love to polish some motorcycle bits for you would be my honour.. it's what i do. :) x
Manufacturers won't want it as they're moving all of their road cars to hybrid and electric, especially in Europe. If f1 is no longer relevant to the road then they walk away and then you have no f1. Love or hate it, hybrid is here to stay and its at least getting some of the engine noise back in '26 with theremoval of the mgu h, which is effectively a big muffler. Never going to sound like the v12s or turbo v8s, but should be a bit better. The Manufacturers are all working on making batteries smaller, lighter and especially greener and its the best option currently as hydrogen is still a deadend due to cost and efficiency and efficiency pressurised storage being a potential crash hazard. Synthetic fuels may change that for racing but we're still a long way from that being viable for f1.
This has to apply to road cars as well but without the extra noise! 60's cars are half the weight of their current equivalent models, just as roomy and with better fuel economy! And a whole lot more engaging to drive!
@@plisskenationbackfromthede3657 no. It's one part of it. MGU-H is going, MGU-K is staying and getting a big boost. MGU-H is going because it's very expensive to make and it's not applicable to road cars.
@@bionicgeekgrrl F1 would be around whatever and whoever was involved. Would the sport be any poorer with 12 garagiste teams using various bespoke engines instead than manufacturer only teams? Trouble is the car makers hold the sport to ransom with their demands and expectations. What happens when their executive board decide they've had enough. Who's going to pony up god knows how many billions to take over their entry. There's only so many major manufacturer groups in the world these days and only one or two aren't involved in F1. There has to be some balance and checking.
I think there should be a time limit for how long it takes for the back of the grid to line up at the start of a race. By the time they get to the back, the cars on the front few rows end up with cold tyres.
Absolute legend this man is. Incredibly likeable guy, and really brings so much to each broadcast he is a part of. I really miss him on the weekends he is not there, there is a very noticeable *gap* when he is not around.
My favorite Brundle expression "Ambition exceeds adhesion". I dunno if that was Brundle who said it originally or if he pinched it. He was the first person I head say it though.
Absolute legend. You’d be a welcome guest at my all time dinner table Martin. Alongside Jenson and Senna plus a few others. Thanks for everything you do for this awesome sport 👍🏻
I'd need a pretty big table for dinner with loads of legends from the past 40 odd years! Ayrton, Alonso, Brundle, Gilles, McNish, Thackwell, Dixon, Max, Montoya etc etc Martin would have to be the MC though that's for sure!
Such an intelligent, eloquent chap and so under appreciated as a driver. Much, much better than the stats can ever tell you. "Ambition over ability"....I think that was one of Martin's quotes??
Martin and Ted are propping up an ailing Sky F1 offering. He's such a genuine bloke, and very quick witted. "That won't polish out" was my favourite in recent weeks, of a huge smash into the fence.
I’ve been watching F1 since the mid - late 90’s and this legend has been there for my whole ride. He taught me everything I know about this wonderful motorsport and is a massive reason as to why I still love it today. He is the guy I wish to be at every race when I turn the tele on. I’d love to meet him one day just to tell him. He will be incredibly missed when he chooses to hang up his mic. What a legend! 👏
Martin is such a gent! I always love to watch the grid walk, its sometimes to awkward and cringe, but when he talks to drivers and principles its quite interesting. I also really like his commentary during the races as he often add a lot of good insight and opinions. This was a great video.
“Straight to the scene of the accident” is a great Brundleism. My brother - despite my objections - would put F1 on the telly in the late 1990s, and Martin’s pithy commentary was the reason I realised that there actually something interesting happening. Bring back refuelling. It made things far more interesting not knowing what strategy someone was on. Different tyre strategies are not the same thing.
Martin Brundle , watching you drive the wheels off the Dodge Daytona at burke lake airport IROC race was smashing . Going flat to 1st place was well deserved.
I love his confidence in himself, his speed, and ability to compete in today's f1. While recognizing the champions are above the rest in a special way.
My favourite F1 commentator of all time. It’s a shame Martin has to share the job with Crofty, who is the worst ever. So bad I’ve stopped watching Sky and pay for the F1 app just so I don’t have to listen to David Croft anymore.
ralf schumacher causing a crash at monza 97 and blaming someone else (forgot who. may have been herbert). Martin said 'if your name is shoe-maker you can speak cobblers'. commentary gold. straight to the scene of the accident is one of my favourites.
Martin is the voice of formula one. He took on the mantle, in punditry form, from Murray. He is so incredibly well spoken and well informed and doesn’t allow biases to play any part when it comes to factually discussing a driver or team - or he at least tries to be impartial despite being on sky. What I love most about him is that he is still an absolute racer. You can tell how he still really really wants to get behind the wheel of these cars, how much he loves them and you do get a hint of sadness that he’s passed that point of competitive racing in his life. You can’t buy this type of quality and we are all very lucky to have him.
Even he would think that a bit of a stretch. However he was certainly good enough for several wins when you look at some of his contemporaries who won a load.
I'd bring back v8 or v10 engines instead of v6 and ban some rules like: - moving unter braking - no refueling during race - refuelling before the feature/sprint race - virtual safety car - no cursing on team radio
Martin is the best, there's no else like him! I have been watching F1 for a long time and his color commentary along with David Croft are some of my best memories of watching F1 races!
I was in the stands to see Martin run back for the T car after his crash at T3 at Melbourne for the restart. That was sensational. Love your work Martin.
I'd like tyre changes and repairs to be banned under red flag conditions. Resume the race in the same conditions as they stopped, unless repairs are necessary for safety, eg loose bodywork.
Still butthurt🤣 like Norris had a chance . Verstappen would ve won anyway. And should we to then ban British media wich are to baised and ban British stewards and let people from like Congo do the stewarding ? Or we let his Verstappen do 1 race stewarding and see how much penalty’s Norris gets 😉🤔
We dont have Sky TV now and I miss Martin lots for his amazing commentary , I get the "other " UK highlights show which is dire tbh, but I get to see EVERY lap of Moto GP so im still happy :)
Ban those stupid interviews with rap stars, football, soccer players and all the rest of them that roam the grid. What are they doing there? The focus should be on cars&drivers only thats why im watching.
Ban billionaires from having a say in how any of it is ran. Force them to work on such strict limits that billionaires are no longer interested in the sport and it opens back up to real people.
The Brundle family are one of the greatest things about modern live motorsport commentary. Alex Jacques & Alex Brundle are a mighty pairing. Martin is iconic, he’s raced and beaten Ayrton Senna 💪
I disagree. I’m fed up with Brundle and other f1 commentators continual bias towards uk drivers. honestly when Lando wins they are so elated - Lewis and it’s come in your pants time. I’m tired of it and by the recent comments in many utube posts a lot of people are sick of their non acknowledgement and disrespect to other drivers. Unfortunately I have to listen to their biased comments and It makes watching F1 a bit so enjoyable experience.
Best part about his grid walks are when his producers tell him to go talk to someone “famous” and brundle has no idea who they are so he walks up to them and says “hi and who are you”
Ban certain stewards who show an obvious bias. Ban all rotation and employ only full time stewards who do every race. But no full time for the likes of Hebert or Hill, who can't even try and hide their utter hatred of a certain driver and their absolute love of another.
The problem with that is the same stewards would have the same bias that they already have. Think about great white hope Warwick and Connelly. Just a pro Max fest from them and numerous others so whilst a nice idea of it was them two then no thanks...
@@Wavelover33Yet again completely blind to all the fluffing of Max and in the last toner drivers like Alonso when he was in vogue in 2023... Lando has been given time penalties and Lewis gets them too. The guys name you're looking for is Max. He gets away with nearly everything and is enabled by the FIA and sky sports. They always find ways to make slam dunks seem ambiguous for Max, just to try and look objective. They are scared of looking biased and it shows with some of them. Some of them are just pro Max all the way. Karun and Brundle being two of them. Karun has been seen openly rooting for Max, excuses his shenanigans and most of the others on the team just laugh it off. It's ambiguous and the rules are at fault they tell the masses. Then skip over important parts of the rules whilst trying to explain their narrative. Brundle just shrugs it off as Max being a "real racer", "street fighter" (right about that one, just ask Ocon). He tried diverting blame but not even he said Mexico was ok, because it was indefensible, so instead he said "not this time Max" implying he has excused him before but won't (can't) this time because it was so egregious. Couldn't be more sky Max/ sky red bull than it is any other since the Ted boycott. Things got way worse then and now like the lefties do, they silence people they don't agree with, and it works sadly.

Ban concrete runoffs, there should always be a price to pay during a race when you run wide off track or push opponents the track to gain an advantage thats not wheel to wheel racing
big up brundle
Mate F1 wouldn't be what it is without you!! I love your humour and opinions. You and your son are both brilliant windows into motor racing. Really cool seeing your son adopt James Broadbent, brilliant idea. Would love to polish some motorcycle bits for you would be my honour.. it's what i do. :) x
Everyone forgets this guy is one of the best ever in a sports car. Tom Kristensen and Brundle are probably the top two
2 of the quickest, certainly. Lehto, McNish, Bellof, Ickx, Bell were all greats at going faster in long distance racing.
@@neilr4867 agreed, every time i see TK on viaplay, my day instantly gets better
My dream duo commentators would be Martin and Murray ..they have been the soundtrack to F1. Both legends of the sport..
"there's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire" 😂
Martin doesn't need lift music playing behind him.
i don't like this chatting with celebrities on the grid walk. I'd rather hear from the team principals and drivers.
amen… the celebrities add nothing
Unfortunately, drivers and team principles have other things on their mind
agree 100%
Celebrities should not be allowed on the grid unless they're invested in a team.
@@F1FanCanuck What do you mean??? I LOVE hearing nonsense spouted by people there for none other than self preservation.
Martin is one the true legends of F1, encapsulates the sport for me.
100% time to admit the hybrid era was a chapter... that is now over. Make cars lighter + smaller and noisier!
@bionicgeekgrrl the mgu h is literally the hybrid component. And they all agreed to ditch it
This has to apply to road cars as well but without the extra noise!
What a fabulous video. So honest, straightforward and real. What an absolute legend. Don’t ever change Martin
That was great. I could watch another hour or two of Martins stories. Fantastic.
Love from Kuala Lumpur. We wish F1 brings it back in the near future!!!!
I think there should be a time limit for how long it takes for the back of the grid to line up at the start of a race. By the time they get to the back, the cars on the front few rows end up with cold tyres.
Good one! this maddens me.
It was worse in the old days when cars at the front would start to overheat.
Listening to him commentate makes me feel like I'm 7 years old all over again every race. I hope he never retires
Martin is the reason I watch the Sky commentary!
Martin is one of the best things about F1. Always informative, gives balanced analysis and constantly entertaining.
Martin and Ted for me are fantastic. Martin the experience is immense. Ted the funny chats.
Agreed, but I can do without David Croft !
Lance Stroll
Absolute legend. You’d be a welcome guest at my all time dinner table Martin. Alongside Jenson and Senna plus a few others. Thanks for everything you do for this awesome sport 👍🏻
I'd need a pretty big table for dinner with loads of legends from the past 40 odd years! Ayrton, Alonso, Brundle, Gilles, McNish, Thackwell, Dixon, Max, Montoya etc etc
Martin would have to be the MC though that's for sure!
Such an intelligent, eloquent chap and so under appreciated as a driver. Much, much better than the stats can ever tell you. "Ambition over ability"....I think that was one of Martin's quotes??
"Straight to the scene of the accident" whenever anyone has a shunt into a barrier always makes me chuckle.
Martin and Ted are propping up an ailing Sky F1 offering. He's such a genuine bloke, and very quick witted. "That won't polish out" was my favourite in recent weeks, of a huge smash into the fence.
When Brundle talks, I listen
I got to meet Martin when Alex was racing in Daytona one year. Really nice guy!
This was brilliant more of this
I’ve been watching F1 since the mid - late 90’s and this legend has been there for my whole ride. 👏
Even Martin Brundle thinks, that he and his son sound so effing similar.
My favourite Martin moment
Taking Schumacher's baseball cap 🧢😂
I love his confidence in himself, his speed, and ability to compete in today's f1. While recognizing the champions are above the rest in a special way.
My favourite F1 commentator of all time. It’s a shame Martin has to share the job with Crofty, who is the worst ever. So bad I’ve stopped watching Sky and pay for the F1 app just so I don’t have to listen to David Croft anymore.
Crofty is awful. David Addison would be my choice, but then, I don’t want to lose him from BTCC.
Martin is one of the most authoritive voices in f1. He's been there and done it. Talks a lot of sense and he's opinions carry a lot of weight.
ralf schumacher causing a crash at monza 97 and blaming someone else (forgot who. may have been herbert).
You can’t buy this type of quality and we are all very lucky to have him.
first thing to change? johhny herbert and his exclusive interviews for gambling websites. conflict of interest much?
This Herbert obsession demeans f1 fans. Get over yourself.
Should be illegal for gambling companies to promote or sponsor anything tbh.
Change Johnny Herbert full stop.

My absolute favourite Martin comment was “It’s all turned to custard for D’ambrosio” 😂😂
On this particular occasion, I would ban David Croft. And on any other occasion, particular or not.
What
Croft is dreadful, Martin has the patience of a saint working alongside that buffoon.
Martin is a legend. Thank you for all the memories over the years! Look forward to many more races hearing you commentate on!
Martin Brundle should have win 2+ F1 World Championship"s 🏆🏆 very gifted driver !!!!!!!!
Even he would think that a bit of a stretch. However he was certainly good enough for several wins when you look at some of his contemporaries who won a load.
I'd bring back v8 or v10 engines instead of v6 and ban some rules like:
- moving unter braking
- no refueling during race
- refuelling before the feature/sprint race
- virtual safety car
- no cursing on team radio
Patrick and Croft, both drive me nuts .
Martin is the best, there's no else like him! I have been watching F1 for a long time and his color commentary along with David Croft are some of my best memories of watching F1 races!
We're so lucky to have Martin commentating, he cheated death so many times. He's been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt.
Tyre changes banned is probably impractical, as a red flag often means following cars have driven over carbon shards.
We dont have Sky TV now and I miss Martin lots for his amazing commentary , I get the "other " UK highlights show which is dire tbh, but I get to see EVERY lap of Moto GP so im still happy :)

Martin is so great and couldn't imagine him not being a part of F! ! Great job Mr Martin Brundle !
Ban those stupid interviews with rap stars, football, soccer players and all the rest of them that roam the grid. What are they doing there? The focus should be on cars&drivers only thats why im watching.
What a great man! Martin makes F1 a more enjoyable experience every race weekend!
Martin owning Christian Horner's driving career at Singapore was hilarious. Look it up if you haven't seen it.
Martin Brundle is one of my favorite F1 people and his grid walk is the best non-racing part of any F1 media, I love it.
Ban billionaires from having a say in how any of it is ran. Force them to work on such strict limits that billionaires are no longer interested in the sport and it opens back up to real people.
the grid walks are entertaining Mr. Brundle thanks fpr all the fun
The Brundle family are one of the greatest things about modern live motorsport commentary. Alex Jacques & Alex Brundle are a mighty pairing. Martin is iconic, he’s raced and beaten Ayrton Senna 💪
I frequently quote Brundle-isms at home “Honda donkey really pulling up the hill” and “took a bite out of his seat” come to mind easily.
I genuinely miss Martin when he's having a weekend off. I think Karun is great but Martin is a national treasure! ❤
Nah, JH was 100% correct. Max is a grub on the track.
Yes it’s sickening to see their bias and lack of respect to anytime but Lewis and Lando. I wish we had a choice of other commu
Great interview and perspective as always. My all time favourite Brundleism was something like - He was never going to make that corner in a month of sundays. Classic.
